I agree -- but the following is the real issue, IMHO: I agree with Prof. Glaude, as Mr. Rufo applies red lipstick to the pig that is White Power. Every time Native Black Americans have tried to be self-determined there's serious backlash from those White Americans who are insecure and Republican conservatives who, like the Democratic Southern Dixiecrats of yore, put "scarlet letters" on principle, fairness and decency. The GOP is using a central tenant of their playbook, race -- Native Black Americans/NBAs, Black Lives Matter and Critical Race Theory -- as a wedge to regain power and keep NBAs in their assigned place as American's permanent bottom-caste. It's not rocket-science. One's side-eye...oops!...One's eye's must be wide-open to SEE "what's goin' on." And with a straight-face many would say Mr. Rufo needs to get his eye's examined and stop explaining away the obvious. With due respect.

Teaching CRT to our kids is like this story of Johnny's Teacher trying to teach him a math problem with a narrative, so Johnny follows his answer with a narrative but this teacher tells Johnny he is incorrect because it doesn't fit the narrative which makes zero sense to poor Johnny : "Teacher asks lil Johnny if there were 5 birds on the power wire and if he got a gun and shot one, how many would be left. Johnny says "zero". The teacher says "that is incorrect, the answer should be four". lil Johnny says, "if I shot one with a gun, the others are going to fly away, leaving none"! America is not racist, 1776 freedom isn't free, we fight tyranny and Marxism is tyranny.. there are only up to 8000 white supremacist's in this country barley enough to oppress a basketball stadium... the truth is 1 in 10 whites and 1 in 7 blacks tested as bigots period... you cant blame us today for what happened in the past especially the fact we fought for freedom and won... our National News is rigged you should have realized that when they made you believe in career politicians

Every since Biden got into office, I have sensed some political tension between Joe and Mika . Joe, like Bill Maher seems to be going home to his conservative white male roots almost overnight. I am disappointed to see him advocating so strongly for a return to old fashioned law and order, and a Democratic Party controlled by moderates. He seems to intentionally misunderstand that the progressives who actually got in the streets, fought against voter suppression while also voting, protested for months - highlighting the differences in policy between the parties, calling for and leading policy change and basically delivering the Dems the election, and then the climate to make the changes required in the senate, have always been for law and order. Again, he miss reads the tea leaves or is trying to drive an agenda. He uses Eric Adams
We, are not for the current system however, and will not let Joe and his kind push us backwards towed repression. We envision a better system of criminal justice, starting with the police. We are not asking for a return to failed Zero Tolerance policy, Stop and Frisk, and sub-standard policing and court systems. We want change. Joe can try to spin it like he’d like, but he does not speak for the majority of Dems. What is it that he is up to?

It is certainly racist, and is not scholarly at all as it contains no real counter arguments; it also contains attacks on ML King's position. There is a reason for this. CRT has nefarious motives. What would in any other era be described as parody or insanity is entertained under CRT's postmodern framework. @@tysonclarke012 I'm worried about the ignorance involved in your comment to this person. The reason behind the German sense of guilt is how easily they were tricked. How easy it was to point the finger at other people and blame them for all the issues. Exactly like today when instead of striving to teach real history people are trying to continue to teach lies and take away the vote from the people they don't want to hear. The past of America is happening again because of its fear of feeling the guilt of its past. The more Germany continues to recognise its true history the freer it is to continue to grow from strength to strength. There is nothing quite like the German ingenuity, practicality and hard work ethic. They are a truly strong nation, not al all crippled by acknowledging their past. They *are* the defecto leaders in Europe because are humble enough to listen and not even want to take the role.
America could be great, but like a child, it doesn't want to hear about bills and responsibility. America leads because of its size not because of its characteristics. America leads because of its military might. But America still hasn't had a female president and it lectures the Arab world about female equality? Come on! America had a brown president and the government ground to a halt! Literally had one side saying we don't care what he proposes, we will never agree to ANYTHING this brown man says. Because America doesn't know the truth of its history, because it doesn't want to feel bad. It is going to remain the leader because it is the biggest as opposed to because it is the best. The sad part is, people like you are ok with that. And you probably don't even understand why that is sad.

We reflect on our history in the US. And personal responsibility is crucial for how one determines what one must do to help improve the circumstances one is born into. I do not understand why guilt for other people's actions is necessary. Perhaps you can further educate me on this. If someone is not actively causing harm, they have a right to sit by and do nothing so long as they stay out of the way. The least a person should do is take responsibility for their own actions. The extra step, which should not be required though is highly commendable, is to take responsibility for others actions.
We have been teaching about the transatlantic slave trade, slavery, the civil war, reconstruction era, and the civil rights movements of the 60s for decades, well before the present version of CRT. I remember in detail learning about these and doing assignments and tests on them. They are in my textbooks. Additionally, things like Black History Month and MLK Day ensure that our schools do at least discuss US events of slavery and racism and at least acknowledge contributions of Black Americans through out our nation's history, annually (obviously this does not imply we are "done". we still certainly have a ways to go to continue to improve and hopefully eliminate all prejudice). CRT is not necessary to teach history nor "how to feel about" historical or present events (to be honest I don't care how one feels about historical events, only that they not repeat historical atrocities). Encouraging people to hate themselves as a result of the actions of people who happened to look like them from decades ago is hardly productive. Schools should teach the facts as they stand and encourage love and support for one another. Grade school CRT curriculums are teaching ideological dogma about how one should feel about their skin color due to historical ties to perpetrators of historical atrocities. Remove these sorts of ideologies and CRT has potential.
From my perspective, many of the US's problems stem from an inconsistency in public education within and across states in numerous aspects of history and STEM. The public education I got was literally not the same as the one the kid in the zip code next to me got.
Governments want to keep us stupid and in fighting.
I admit, I do not know a lot about German history (please feel free to educate me on this. it's always good to learn from one another), but I often see Germans making this equivalence of how they handle the Holocaust to how Americans handle our history of racism and slavery. Part of the issue here in the US is that some conflate slavery with racism. In Germany, I imagine, anti-Semitism is conflated with the Holocaust. The implications are that slavery is abolished and the Holocaust is over, therefore racism and anti-Semitism are done, which, many agree is false. Issues such as racism and anti-Semitism extend both prior and after these events. We need to accurately understand how the problems of past events and mitigation of those events there after, might still be impacting current society and how to continue to correct any existing problems from those events and actions. CRT is trying to do this, but comes to a number of conclusions I disagree with such as the statement that capitalism needs to end and individual rights are not top priority in obtaining racial justice. Of course capitalism has problems, but the bulk of which are irrespective of racism. And individual rights and freedoms should be the number one goal of any reformation.
Opposition to CRT is not the same as opposition to learning the good, bad, and ugly about how our history.

Does anyone else besides me find it more than a little suspicious that one of the two parties is _openly, shamelessly_ trying to block any effort to do anything about it?
There will be times when a nation will have to face an existential crisis. It’s a rare situation when compared to anyone’s lifetime though; so it’s not exactly clear what to do. Or rather, it’s a scary thing to face what is actually necessary to do. Therefore, nothing _is_ done and the crisis metastasizes to the point that the empire falls completely.

That being said, it gives me hope to see people engaged. Democracy is messy. Contentious. Downright inflammatory at times. So even though I am a Democrat and a liberal, I find it hard to stomach how slavery is being described as almost an American institution of old rather than a Human Institution since ancient times. The most recent manifestation of slavery that we have in America is a facet of a much larger problem that humans seem to take each other as slaves whenever they can get away with it. All over the world there are slaves and the way slavery manifested in the United States was a giant machine but it appears those kind of stories have happened since Humanity began recording history and I think dealing with slavery as a global and ancient problem would be healthier than just focusing on the American facet of it. Not wanting to ignore a single edge of that facet, not wanting to diminish its horrifically nature in any way, but it is still a part of an even more horrible human trait of taking slaves whenever the advantage is there.

She simply said, "Most people do not believe that slavery is OK". She went on to say that we learn about it so we also know that it is not OK. i was relieved to hear that most people are good people. I also learned that day that history is important to learn so we don't make the same mistakes as we made in the past, and we go into the future with a better idea of what is OK, and what is not OK.

exactly, the race issue has always existed throughout history, and denial does not make it go away it just continues to evolve and get worse. Acknowledgment and accountability are the best way to restore this nation, not avoiding the foundational sins, the sins of forefathers always visit the third and fourth generations, that is the Creator's doing to produce repentance and change. Americans are labeled and categorized by the color of their skin (sad), instead of us seeing each other as human beings with distinct differences with respect. As long as the made-up labels remain nothing will change the spell of racism will remain, history always repeats itself if there is no real change of hearts, just look the atmosphere is saturated with race issues. Laws can be made by the government, but it does not mean the heart of the people have changed, only God can do this kind of mastery (My mom told me this and she is in her 80s, she has lived through all of the eras, like Jim Crow, cotton picking, lynching, etc.). The change comes when people are held accountable for their wrongdoings not acting as nothing happened, that is not going to work anymore with black people, I GUARANTEE.

CRT questions, criticizes, challenges, and even rejects classical liberal value, like, color-blindness, racial integration, equality, individualism, incremental improvement, "objective, neutral, and balanced" view, etc. and the traditional 1964 civil rights movement discourse.
Here are some quotes from CRT authors:
"The aspect of our work which most markedly distinguishes it from conventional liberal and conservative legal scholarship about race and inequality is deep dissatisfaction with traditional civil rights discourse"
--Critical Race Theory: the key writings that formed the movement. Edited by Kimberle Crenshaw , ...
"Unlike traditional civil rights discourse, which stresses incrementalism and step-by-step progress, critical race theory questions the very foundations of the liberal order, including equality theory, legal reasoning, Enlightenment rationalism, and neutral principals of constitutional law."

"overreach drives allies away", this is very key to understanding racism in America and shows why this keeps coming up and it is because you have a lot of "allies" who say they want things fix but the fix should not inflict the slightest amount of pain on them and if it does it is better for black people to keep carrying the burden.
When the slaves were going to be freed, they were promised some wealth to get started but there was a problem if they were given that wealth it would affect the flow of raw materials from the south into the northern industries so what was promised to the black slaves was given to their former slave masters so they would have the labour and the extra lands required...."ALLIES".
