Again, on Hot Licks, Produced and Directed by me, Arlen Roth! New Telelmasters album of mine has Brent, Paisley, Redd, Donahue, Cropper, Gill, Will Ray, Steve Wariner, Albert Lee, Bill Kirchen and more, dedicated to Gatton, Buchanan and all the past Telemasters!
Arlen Roth I’m a huge fan of yourself and Brent Mason.
I’m wondering if you know where to get a copy of Brent Mason Recording Guitar dvd? I’ve tried all the usual places eBay, reverb, Nashville music shops and even Brent’s personal assistant to no avail.
I live in Australia and can’t find this dvd anywhere, I know it’s been out of print for 7 years, but I’m desperate. Any help would be awesome, cheers, Paul from OZ.🎸
I’ve owned this great dvd for years as well as his later dvd. You’re right. If you’re a Brent Mason fan you really want this dvd.
What other dvd does he have out?
@@wittvonwitt4403 it’s titled Brent Mason Recording Guitar released by Music Pro Media. It features Brent in the studio playing fills and overlaying parts to songs. I checked out his website but it’s not there. You could probably search and find it for sale somewhere.
@@guitareveryone excellent! Thank you!
@@wittvonwitt4403 glad to be of help!
Thanks for this video however I have spent many hours working with Brent and I would say he IS a great teacher in addition to being a guitar phenomenon! Ray Havlicek
And yet, personal anecdote doesn’t trump a video people can buy and watch.
Great review of an awesome video. It was what sparked my interest in the genre and now takes up loads of my time. So enjoying it......
Brent is just a monster. Been to Tennessee a couple of times but always missed his live gigs by a week or two. Want to catch him one day for sure!
Thank you for this nice review. I bought this video on VHS tape which kind of dates me I guess. Agree with the comments on Brent Mason's teaching style, it's almost non-existent but he's such an extraordinary player and engaging personality you overlook it. One thing that most impressed me and seldom gets commented on is the economy of motion in Brent's hand movements. To produce so much sound with so little apparent effort makes his playing seem magical.
I've heard his name number of times, but I think I've never seen him play! It just boggles my mind to see how effortlessly he plays, it is just mind blowing stuff! Thanks!
Kurgle Kreutzer absolutely fantastic player, you'll have heard him... You just didn't know it.
Ever watched friends? You've heard him 😂
Hah hah, then I surely have heard him play! What a surprise! Cheers!
Hi Levi, just found your channel, and I'm looking forward to checking it out. I got to see Brent play here in Nashville a few nights ago, and put up some videos. He had some really amazing players with him: Kirk Covington, Adam Nitti, and Mike Rojas. There was a very appreciative audience that night, as the Summer NAMM show was in town; about 90% musicians, as one might expect.
One of the hardest artists to cop licks from on You Tube because he's so darn fast! Always!
It's a great video but it's one of the ones I think most people will be in awe of, maybe lift an example or two and park it. It's A LOT of fun coming back to it as you develop as a player, especially once you really put the work into focusing on chords and their inversions, chord tones and just having a much better sense of the neck and how it's all laid out.
Honestly, I get the "bad teacher" thing, but it's impossible to have a universal approach for all levels of player. This shit is advanced. If you have a good ear, it works. I'd rather have this 1 and a half hour video than a 5-hour one that painstakingly goes into the basics. You just kind of get to a point where tabs, slowing stuff down to snail's pace, reviewing all of the theory, etc. just gets redundant.
Yes, but these product aren’t really made for the most advanced of advanced, they’re mass market.
If you have a good enough ear to not need things explained, then you don’t need this video because you have the records!
@@LeviClay You definitely have a point. I still think it's really valuable hearing how greats like Brent organize or think about different dimensions of their playing. It's such a tiny part of the video, but the one example where he runs through a bunch of G and G7-type triads ... those are the pearls of wisdom you can't pick up off the recordings. That one little piece of this video really sent me down a valuable rabbit hole I might have otherwise missed.
That's the stuff that fascinates me most these days for where I'm at. How do these guys visualize this instrument? How does their cognition work? When they look at the neck, it's stupid riddles (y'all know what I mean there), the infinity of possibility - what do they see?
@@KomiSteve oh for sure, that’s why it’s on my must own list! This is one of the greats for sure
You're going to cost me a fortune this month with your recommendations ;)
Have you checked out Paul Pigats travis picking dvd?
I find it so interesting how much newer that Telecaster looks if you compare it to how it looks now. You can definitely tell that that guitar has aged.
Awesome!
Brant is offering Skype lessons, $200 an hour, I'd love to take those lessons, but I can't afford that at the mo 😞
well, mine are $100 on Skype!
One for the "blues lawyers" to improve their skills with i think!
This used to be on RUclips for years. Now it's gone like the account was deleted. Normally if a video was removed for copyright issuesx the video will still be there but when go to watch it, it has a pop up.
Why couldnt it just be uploaded to RUclips? The Danny Gatton one is on YT and has been for years.
Avery J I don’t believe it is. Music sales own these and there really good at policing them. I got permission from them before posting this.
Avery J yeah, just looked. Licks and tricks isn’t one of the hot licks videos
Anyone know where to get the Brent Mason Recording Guitar DVD? It’s been out of print for 7 years now.None in Australia and I’ve checked all the normal places.. eBay, reverb etc.. even Brent himself only has 1 copy for himself. Any ideas?
Since I sold the company to Music Sales, and it's now with Hal Leonard, I would ck. with Hal Leonard first! Thanks!
Brett is using a B Bender which sucks because I only have 3 regular Telecasters without the B bender mod.
Benders are uncommon - I didn’t get one until very recently
@@LeviClay Do you still recommend this DVD if you don't have a B-bender if your goal is to transcribe licks to build musical vocabulary?
rz0svp I didn’t have a bender for the first 15 years I owned the DVD.
I own that one too:-)
You have impeccable taste! ;)
Holy shit 😱
If somebody has it. Upload it to YT once again. If it gets removed then Ok. Even Levi said he doesn't know how it hasn't made it to YT. It was for years.
Avery J it will be removed instantly. It’s automatic. And rightfully so. Someone owns it. It’s not yours to give away. If you want it, there’s a link to it on amazon in the description.
taught that son of a bitch everything he knows----good boy
Unless you are Brent Mason you won't get much out of the video. There is now a book with the transcriptions from the video which is much more helpful and also provides an on-line download of the DVD. Cost me less than $14.00!
Unless you're willing to put some work in, you won't get much out of anything...
Can you tell me when I can find that?
@@phish1 Try this one. I looks like the newer version. No DVD but you can download all the videos and has the newer transcriptions. Worked out fine for me. The older ones on eBay have the DVD.

Good luck!
Amazon has the DVD for $14.99, the paperback book for $19.99.
Omfg this dude makes rockers sound like crap haha jeez!
To bad Arlen Roth never paid Bret Mason for this video... sad...!!! He is a crook...!!!!
Greg Rhodes I'd heard that too - though thankfully Arlen also no longer owns them
I paid Brent massively for this video. My wife and daughter were killed in 1998, and in my crippled state I had to trust people, so a woman took over operations at Hot Licks who stole everything.....it all has been worked out, and Brent just played with me on my new Telemasters album......so SHUT THE HELL UP!
