    Not going to lie, I started to notice that your hair was thinning, but I didn't want to say anything and sound rude, plus I wasn't too sure. But I'm happy you realized it and decided to take action. To be honest, you're the only 4c hair inspiration I can look to because I don't know many 4c hair girls that style their hair like you, and who have long hair on RUclips.

      +GlamNP Thank you for being kind enough to wait for me to say something! It was becoming very noticeable! HEHE I am happy you found my set backs helpful. When I showed the rod sets my hair was healthy, but I was still neglecting it.

    i love how u commented about losing focus on what u *really* wanted for ur hair. that's so important for the natural hair community and i believe a lot of "natural hair gurus" especially on YT compromise the health of their hair for length and it's seen in the kind of styles they emphasize. sometimes, it's not always about how good of a twistout a girl can get. great energy as usual and, of course, i appreciate ur honesty so much.

    Wow, all of that happened in 6 months!! Glad your hair is on the mend. Should you have the time, please do a vid on post graduation stress. Many people don't know this, but too much excitement and happiness can be very, very stressful. When I graduated from college, I moved from rural PA to Brooklyn, NY, got a job, started looking for graduate programs, got engaged, got a new apartment and made a slew of new friends. Sounds GREAT right? These were all good things, but it was TOO much all at once. I cried every day and fell into a depression I was so stressed out.

      +123leahm Post Grad Stress is a REAL THING! A lot of people don't understand the pressures that come with going into adulthood. I would love to make a video sharing my experience :) Thank you for sharing your story !

    This video reminded me that I need to keep taking care of my hair as it starts to grow longer! Long does not always necessarily mean healthy. I definitely want to "re-vamp" my hair care routine before I go to college so I can get back to good habits :) Thank you for this video, your hair looks great and I love your energy!

    ilove your honesty in this video and i definitely have noticed in my own hair journey how easy it is to loose all that hair that you so diligently grew out due to neglect! It is really sad! But i love your strength despite it all.. and everything is a learning experience so i can definitely say that i will be paying close attention to my hair as it get back to where it was 10 months ago..to make sure that it wont revert back down again.. All the best on your hair journey hunny!

      Thank you so much for this!! I think I may just have to go to the salon and get my hair almost bald. A lot of, if not all, the hair symptoms you mentioned are what I have been going through for years. This may have stemmed from my hot comb straightening back in the day days. And because I was naturally all my life, I assumed really taking care of my hair with treatments would restore any hair problem. I guess I am wrong. I really reallyyyyy resonated with the thick at the roots but thinning out towards the end, noticeably thin. So all this longgggg while of years, I just assumed my hair is more on the medium to thin degree of thickness...when it probably is due to the CARE. I am not sure if I should just cut ALL my hair out to officially start a fresh start.or head a salon to cut it depending on where the damage began. Or should I keep my hair as is and take maneabolism pills to see if they will fix the problem. Hmmm...

    • @LiveNaturallyLove
      @LiveNaturallyLove  8 лет назад

      Humble Soul Hey love! Thank you for watching ! If I were you I would get a trim, a trim never hurt nobody! Pair that with no heat and treatment and pills should help!

    • @nikkib3103
      @nikkib3103 8 лет назад

      ***** I actually do trim and don't do heat at all (except back in the day day when I experimented with heat without protection a couple of times which may have really contributed to hair thinning and loss)thanks to your videos! I am thinking more of shaving all my hair off. I guess a fresh start in this way is well needed for me. After reading your advice, I will think about it more. Thank you so much for your advice.

    OMG I am having a similar problem!! I will be graduating from college in May!!! However I have been blow drying and wand curling my hair a lot to make sure my hair looks nice for my senior pictures and whatever other events I had. I had a goal of being bra strap length by graduation but that's not happening because my hair is breaking off. It has never broken off this badly in my 3ish years of returning natural. I just got the courage to cut an inch off and my hair felt much better. Thanks for sharing though because I never thought that I am having post graduation stress before i graduate lol.

    I'm going through the same thing since I haven't trimmed my hair since I big chopped 4 years ago.. Smh😂😂... During that period I only wore box braids and never cared for my real hair while doing so.. I've started to trim my hair little by little but I will eventually cut all my damage before I start protective styling to grow my hair back out again. While I was wearing box braids recently, I realized that what I was doing wasn't healthy (from watching natural hair videos such as yours) and massaged my scalp as much as possible so that when I took it out, my hair would still be a decent length and will be healthy after I cut the split ends. When I took my hair out, my hair was the length that your hair is now WITH THE SPLIT ENDS. This sucks because now my hair is shorter then ever, and I haven't even all of the split end off. AND ON TOP OF THAT, my hair will be super uneven after cutting all the split (I'm continuing this in the reply section since RUclips cut my comment off)

    • @crystalasiaw2754
      @crystalasiaw2754 8 лет назад +2

      ends off, so I have to cut even more hair off my hair. Fml 😂😂. My hair has always been your new length or shorter and Im tired of it, so I will protective style to grow my hair out.... Plus my edges have thinned out so much that I can't go outside anymore with my hair out.. I also need to use protective styles to cover my edges so they can grow back.I am planning to start a natural hair channel to document all this and it'll probably be called CeceDoesProtectiveStyles and I hope you'll check if out once I start it. The point of telling you all this is to tell you thank you for inspiring me to cut my hair and and start my hair new healthy hair journey, so maybe we can be RUclips besties?? Lol I love your channel and you've inspired to to learn to love myself and ilysm for that.

    SImilar experience here!! I've decided to try protective styling. I'm on my fourth month. Started with Crochet braids, then I wore a wig, now I'm doing a marley bun (switching position every other day) and next a twisted updo. My hair is soooo much better. Not breaking and shedding as much. I still do my same deep condition and mositurizing routine while wearing protective styles.

    This video has finally convinced me to cut my hair... I've been natural my entire life but I've never cut it, I have 4-5 inches of damaged hair right now at BSL. :/ I know my mom might freak out when she sees that I've cut it myself (she doesn't believe afro textured hair can get damaged, how stupid is that?) but I'm sure she'll get over it soon enough lol. My hair'll be healthier and look more full, and it might actually grow longer now too!

    I hope to be brave enough one day to give myself a REAL trim. My hair is a bit past bra strap length now, and because I've never had hair that long before I dread trims! This the reason why I'm scared to go to salons because they'll have a field day with my hair and those scissors! lol

    • @LiveNaturallyLove
      @LiveNaturallyLove  8 лет назад

      +Jasmine Ashley Thats why you should do it yourself because the salon will give you a whole new look if your not careful. Just be HONEST with your trims love! You could do it !

    Have you tried blow outs on the cold setting - ie no heat - it takes longer of course but hair retains moisture and no damage. In any event I'm glad you took action to save your hair - thanks for sharing gorgeous

    • @LiveNaturallyLove
      @LiveNaturallyLove  8 лет назад

      +annzo23 Thanks for watching love! Yes I did try that it makes the hair harder and takes longer, But the fact of the matter is I shouldn't have used the blow dry regardless of the setting everyday! :( Lesson learned!

  • @teelasalada
    @teelasalada 8 лет назад

    I really like those straight plates you may have seen on Instagram (cwkgirls). The shipping takes like a month but the plates are a great way to stretch your hair without heat. It's not really comfortable to sleep in though!! But the result is similar to a blow out. I think it was helping my hair retain moisture better (cause it is super coily and tends to be dry).

    Im very careful with heat. I only blow dry my hair once every 3 months to trim it . I use heat protection spray . I flat iron my hair once a year . The last time I experienced heat damage was when I had a relaxer. I use to blow dry and flat iron my hair almost every day when I had a relaxer and my hair was breaking off and not growing. When I decided to go natural , I transitioned but my hair was very thin and damaged. 6 months later I big chopped and I struggled with trying to work with really short natural hair. Since I had relaxed hair since I was 4/5, I had no idea how to work with natural hair. I started doing research on how to take care of my hair , experimenting with products , doing different hair styles , protective styling , deep conditioning, trimming , etc. Im 2.5 years natural now and my hair is now really healthy, moisturized , and steadily growing . I am armpit length now . That is the longest my hair has ever grown. My goal is bra strap length. Thank you for this video. I can relate because this happened to me when I use to get a relaxer.

    Despite my goal of BSL I'm so quick to grab the shears and cut some of my ends when they are looking rough and tough lol My cousin thinks I'm crazy but I know it's the right thing. I can definitely do more deep conditioning treatments to help my hair but idk if it's just me but I HATE touching my wet hair after a few minutes in on wash day. Plus with all the product and oils and my nails get all ick! Maybe I can try gloves...

    • @LiveNaturallyLove
      @LiveNaturallyLove  8 лет назад

      +Dominique Alexander Some people actually do wear gloves. I don't wear nails simply for that reason. I also try to so most of the process out side of the shower so Im not wet for too long ! Health over length !

    I've been trying to get my hair back to its most best state but struggling. like i have a lot of knotted ends at the stands of my hair. And i shed like crazy. I'll admit that I've been neglectful of a routine and that definitely is a major factor. But it's really my lack of motivation that's killing the potential of my health.
