  • If you don't like the way things are.... Start a town.
    It sometime seems as if things are grim and change could just never come about in the places where we live. With extreme divide in our government, a broken food system and environmental degradation continuously getting worse, what can we possibly do to change things? I say, start an ecological community with all of your favorite people in the most ideal climate where conscious choice and intentional design are integral to your decision making. I will guide you on my journey in Costa Rica in creating community on a crystal clear river with deep pools where dripping fruit trees line the roads and neighbors care about each other and are dedicated to improving our world.
    In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

    We are building an intentional community in La Esperanza de Turrialba. A town of our own, with people we want to be with. Been here 7 years now....

    We are currently creating a tiny house eco village in Osteen Florida. I can't wait to build many more and hopefully leave behind a legacy that will benefit future generations.

    This is excellent! I have added it to my playlist for inspiration in creating our "Family Compound". LOL
    Honestly:
    I wish I had been born in your family. Having my Mom or Dad go to Burning Man with me would be unbelievably rad! My family is nothing like that. And I can't "paint it exactly how I want it". I get the family I got, and I need all the inspiration and support possible to get them to even listen to this plan, much less like it.
    Blessings.

    Bryan - it sounds like he did what you are suggesting. He built his community in the community in which he grew up, using the ideas and inspiration from the other communities he visited!

    I Love the video! Thank you. But, what about building these communities closer to where you were born/ grew up!? Buying land in developing and third world countries makes for a higher potential that market prices will go up and locals will not have access to the land. I am sure that having an education center like Stephen's CR ecovillages benefits the locals a lot too, but how many people see this and think 'cheap land in tropical paradise'? How about doing this is the communities where we live!

    • @Foxie770
      @Foxie770 2 года назад

      Clearly you haven’t been to south FL or Miami-Dade county… it’s over-developed, over-populated, and not an ideal place to create an intentional village that’s as healthy as CR. But as he mentioned many other friends of his are also creating creative communities around the US.

    This is both true and not true.
    He's clearly not a dictator. That's silly.
    However, making it the way HE wants it is not community either.
    How do we bridge the two realities of having a singular, clear and high quality vision and having connected, bonding, community participation?
    What is your solution?

    Wait, so, okay--so it's not okay to ship & export food, but it's okay to do the same if it's bringing trees to plant in your community? The reality is that not everyone, not most, can begin to even think about a down payment on a community that they own outright & autonomous. I liked the sentiment behind the talk but it was presented in this unrealistic self-righteous way...

    • @sarahmariewu8992
      @sarahmariewu8992 9 лет назад +13

      Thanks for your comment... I think constantly shipping food to meet our dietary needs is much different than bringing seeds or trees and then growing your food. I'm sorry that you thought it came off as self righteous. Certainly wasn't my goal. Many people that live in our community did sweat equity and in another one that I started people put $2500 down and pay $134 monthly for 20 years. So its actually a lot more realistic financially than you may think. The hard part is breaking the chains from the system that holds us captive.
