Viewing this has made me realise just how much we have lost. I grew up in NZ in small towns in the early 60's. Hearing the descriptor of an ecovillage here is exactly what we had. We recycled, had rain water tanks, repurposed goods, hand me downs were the thing, very rarely received anything brand new, no plastic bags or packaging, grew our own vegies and fruit, never locked doors or closed windows when we went out, cycled everywhere. I'm feeling exasperated and distressed at the enormity of what has happened surreptitiously. We have all been sold out by capitalism, governments and so called do-gooders. What madness! How do we reclaim what we have lost whilst still living in the new century???

We reclaim this by seeing ourselves as the "haves" and then forming small groups that sidestep economic hardship by using buying power and sharing to reduce the cost of living, while at the same time raising the quality. Now we are able to buy cheap land in economically depressed areas, since the internet means we can live anywhere. Solar panels are a good price now. Ecovillages can provide makerspace, large greenhouses, industrial kitchen, machine shop, etc and perhaps young people would be more inclined to hang out with this and a part time job available.

Thank you very much for the enlightenment, Kosha.
I've always been dreaming about this concept up until now, but just recently discovered that it's actually the concept of ecovillage. I'm truly grateful to discover this ecovillage concept. I feel like the longing of connectedness and togetherness with other human beings, animals, plants and this whole living cosmos are answered.
For anyone who lives in Indonesia who is also watching this video.
Let's unite, let's create a learning network of existing ecovillage here and collaborate on crafting one connected and supporting ecovillage system. :)

I watched this video from my home in Miami that featured a woman from South Africa and was recorded in Geneva and recognized a picture of a woman who lives in a village near Mt. Fuji, Japan when the two of us came together visiting a village in Yunnan, China. This is very worldwide. Yes, some countries are encouraging these villages, but sadly, others such as China, are brutally suppressing them.

apt roofs can be covered in (year round greenhouses) that drastically lower maintenance costs thru profits that pay for roof repairs

Id like to help start an ecovillage or help out with one ,in the southeasteen U.S. Im in Athens,Ga...Ive been interested in symbiosis since i was a boy,I would set up self sustaining terrariums with salamanders,worms,moss,etc...was always out collecting the stuff for the tank. Now that Im older I really want to help out on a larger scale. Innercity blues are really taking their toll, I come to life in the woods. Knowing my existence doesnt require destroying the surrounding environment . Any helpful responses to this comment would be appreciated

What's missing here which would strengthen this is more focus on values and shared values. Skip your bio or make it shorter. Get to shared values. Values are what bring people together, not ecovillages. Ecovillages are a results of sharing values, local consensus over values.

I'm very in favor of economic villages for many of the reasons that this dreamy idealistic speaker discusses. But I'm nagged by this frustrating feeling that she neglects the brutish, ugly sides of humanity that block much of this progress. Her vague spiritual pronouncemen's and the total.solution to all things these perfect utopia's will offer...somethings not right..it's too perfect, too avoiding of the human foibles, too little emphasis on the challenge's of community life.

15 minutes wasted. The presenter uses lots of words but says very little.
