Bought Kid A in the morning and then saw the show the same day. It was amazing.
Same here! Even got a copy with the hidden booklet!
Same here! Plus the hidden booklet! From Tesco too! Clinic supported them what a great gig
This performance of The Thief is what got me into Can.
I started listening to them (can) and I loved it I’m so glad my fav band did a cover of this song
I feel that my moment to feel Can is coming. :)
Permanent Daylight, what a rare treat :)
Permanent Daylight is easily my fav song from The Bends period, they should play that song way more
At 8am on the day of the gig I was in the dentist chair having a tooth pulled because my eye was almost fully closed with a painful abscess and you can't drive like that! No meds, no trying to save the tooth, "just pull it, seriously! I have a really important gig this afty" By 1pm I was 1st in the queue at the big top. I wasn't going to miss this gig for anything.
I was there and they were phenomenal. I was in my first year at uni in Wrexham studying illustration hnd. Unfortunately at the end me and my halls mates went to the wrong train station and when we realised we missed the last train and had to pay £70 for a taxi back. The taxi driver was then pulled over by the police as his number plate had fallen off! 😂 amazing gig. Don’t remember all the songs that were played so it’s nice to see the set list
The setlists from this era were so damn good. Permanent Daylight is excellent live.
One of my fav Bends era songs. Felt validated when they played it at this gig.
I taped this from radio 1, they cut it at the end of the thief. Used to listen to this over and over again.
"Cheer up Thom!" A class moment I've always remembered.
1:27:00
The crowd cheered because it made Thom smile, then laugh.
@@onegirlgigging Yeah I was there, and notice how Jonny doesn't immediately come in with his keyboard part. That's cause he was standing looking at Thom like 'wtf' and it was as though he was waiting for him to start the song again. Crazy times!
when radiohead really were at the top of their game
They still are 😁🤘🏼
@@raoulspov not enough
@@motionpicturesoundtr4ckthey’re not playing at the moment but if they gonna make a tour, all of the cities will be sold out in minutes.
Still top of the game, innovating and disruptive like the best progressive bands always are. No rest for the wickedly good. Everything in its right place 😌
I was there. Age 19! On my mates shoulders for most of it! First time I saw Radiohead. I wish I could remember it more clear.
I’m so glad to find this recording. This was my first ever gig, I was 15. Me and my friend Matthew took the day off school and his parents drove us up from Derbyshire at about lunchtime. I think we were maybe third or fourth in line to get in. I’d prepared myself to get a bit roughed up by the crowd but when Clinic were playing I was thinking “this isn’t so bad, I’ve got plenty of space”. Then The National Anthem started and I felt this wave of pressure behind that lifted me off my feet. It’s nearly a quarter of a century ago but I can still remember the feeling of the cold air on my sweaty t shirt when leaving the tent, the giddy journey home, then listening to the taped show from Radio 1 as soon as I got home. I couldn’t have asked for a better first gig.
This is the best recording i've found of "The Thief" such an amazing cover by Radiohead!
I live in Warrington and was lucky enough to get to see all three shows. Absolutely amazing, remember it like it was yesterday and this just seals it. Nice one for the upload
What an amazing version of Airbag. Tight as fook. In limbo!
I was there.. I'll always remember my mate saying, 'I paid twenty five quid to see Backofahead'
Jonnys guitar on My Iron Lung here is insane
Beautifully tight drumming on morning bell.
My first proper gig. The suspense created by the haunting violin intro music, then the band came on stage, straight into 'The National Anthem'. It didn't give you time to think, only enjoy. So happy I heard 'Permanent Daylight' and 'How to Disappear Completely'.
I spelled "Treefingers" reading this, btw.
You’re so lucky getting to see how to disappear live, im so obsessed with this song
thanks for uploading this - I've been looking for a good recording of that day for a long time!
I'm sure I'm one of the few people yelling in delight as Permanent Daylight started - I almost lost my head at that point!
+Andrew McDermott Same mate.
back when they performed far more intense than they do now...and thom looked less like he is enjoying himself...awsome
They were still feeling insecure about Kid A changes in style and had something to prove here - they felt.
Was at this concert and find the image of Farfrompuken such a weird coincidence. Spent the afternoon drinking and smoking, not wasted but high as a kite, got to the concert and was having a ton of fun. Someone shared round what I thought was a J but it was summat far stronger that sent me overboard. Last I remember before blacking out was me dancing with a girl and throwing up. Fell backwards into my B in Laws arms and got dragged to the tent entrance to a first aider lol Had to sit there a while till I felt right again and then rejoined my group and carried on enjoying that amazing concert. Can't believe 22 years have passed since then, I remember most of that day like it was yesterday 😜 Was great to relive the concert audibly with my visual memories ✌
wow that early version of Pyramid Song is great
I was there the previous night...just amazing! For me this was their peak era - experimentalism and 'edge' in perfect balance.
Myself and 7 or 8 friends queued in a local record shop to buy Kid A one after another the when it was released next morning :)
damn the effects throughout in limbo and the guitar tones near the end are so fucking sick.
Right?! It's maybe the best Limbo I've ever heard. Also the drums at the end!
Just found this. Was also there and you have made my decade fella. The note towards the end of Just where Johnny pulls the bottom string so far off the neck. God status from that moment on.
The setlist is insane!!! This upload is gold
I went to this gig with my then-girlfriend-now-wife in a big top. It was broadcast on BBC radio. If you got there early enough you could get a wrist band to get to the front (which we did). It was amazing to witness them at that point in their career!
We've still got our tickets too - in a frame on the wall with lots of other tickets from back then.
What a beautiful thing to stumble upon
Thanks for sharing this gem in such an exquisite sound quality. It's a professional recording of the show.
Was offered two tickets for one of the nights but my mate bottled it and wouldn’t come so I left it. Shoulda fuckin gone alone.
Starting with National Anthem is just boss!
I was there too - love it when Thom does his George Formby impression during Exit Music!
Superb gig with a perfect set list. Got lost on the way home to Wales lol
That was an amazing tour saw them in London 😊
In a field between Bristol and Cardiff. Still think about that gig.
Great times can't believe it's nearly 24 years ago.
Agh I cant remember which of the three days I went . I remember the petrol strikes n shit. I went alone like a saddo. Cant believe this was the same year I saw Oasis at wembley. Years seemed so long and full when your younger. Now they fly past like months.
Roll on death
Didn't see that last line coming
@@BIGT537 from a Radiohead fan!?
Ya messin!? 😂
10:07 AIRBAG!
Yeah that was incredible. so much energy.
Sounds sped up some.
A new emotion. 📀
I still have my unused ticket for the gig in London on this tour. I lost the ticket before the gig then found it afterwards. I managed to get another for the gig at Glasgow instead
The Thief, Talk Show Host and Permanent daylight are the highlights but there are Motion Picture Soundtrack, optimistic and then they played Climbing Up The Walls and Dollars and Cents back to back..great setlist
Well - if our Radiohead lads end up not making the grade - they make one heck of a cover band for the 1968 Can classic "The Thief."
My main memory of this gig is at 1:27:30 when Thom gave the finger to the heckler! Another who was there all three nights, great times. Thanks for the upload - I've got the gig on CD somewhere but I've no idea where!
songasport what does the guy shout?
“Cheer up, Thom!”
@@jamzftwneverdies It was a nice and funny 'heckle' to be fair..
Was there😊😮
i got a ticket just like that one in your vid :-)
I simply love this concert
I was there, I’ve got a recording on my minidisc off the whole gig, don’t know how to convert or update it. Had a minidisc microphone on my jacket, forgot it was there in the melee, walked miles to toilets, with microphone on..got a nice t shirt
This was the first gig I ever attended and Radiohead fucking blew me away. Been a MASSIVE fan ever since. Seen them many many more times since, most recently last year at Glasto (Amazing) then the week after up in Scotland at TRNSMT. Radiohead always have been and always will be way way ahead of the curve. Enjoy and appreciate. Amazing :-)
Amazing idioteque and the national anthem
Was there…..😮
Yeah, me too. Unbelievable gig.
@ walked in just as they came on stage……
I "attended" this gig & have never had any recollection of anything that happened!
Me too. I feel so ashamed hearing other people talk about in detail the gigs they have attended. I'm always just left with an impression of whether it was Great / Very Good / Good etc. Grrr.
Nastiest atmosphere at a gig I've ever known. Still shudder about it. 10,000 people sardined into a big-top. Kicking-off all over the place. Thought somebody was going to get killed.
Joking? I was there and never saw any trouble.
Depends where you were standing I suppose. There was 2 separated parts wasn't there? If you were in the front section, all was good. Whereas I was at the front of the rear section. Shame, because they were really on good form.
❤❤❤❤❤
My favorite Idioteque.
good recording
5 years later, and this is still one of the best sounding Radiohead live shows on RUclips from any era!
Can anyone release their cover of Thief as an episode for Spotify?
brilliant
I found this on mp3 at 320kbps, should someone be interested
i was at this gig as well kurt84wm (we robbed in haha), getting home was a bastard for us too tho, email me with a copy of the gig or a link pls - steb7t2@msn.com
I'm interested, please
is right lad :-)
Does anyone know what happened at 1:27:25 ?
Someone in the crowd yelled 'cheer up, Thom!' and all the crowd cheered, so Thom just messed around through that part.
Didn't they cover 'The Thief' by Can for this show?
Great sound quality though. I was twelve when I went to this show. Can still remember it. Gives me the chills. I have a photo with me a Jonny and Colin from after the show. Thom was very tired. Ed and Phil were very sweet. Mark Owen was backstage. I didn't know who the fuck he was. My stand-out memory is being spellbound watching Jonny make a whole world of his guitar on Morning Bell on the 'round and round and round and round...' bit.
Is this the best ever Paranoid Android?
The actual day kid a was released?
Yes. I was there. It was amazing. The thing that sticks in my memory most is 'Climbing Up The Walls'. The lighting was incredible. A tent with 10,000 people inside it. I wish I could go back.
@@DrunkChimp wish i was there... went to south park in 2001 so at least i saw them in that era......
There was a Victorian fairground outside wasn't there?
What happened in 'Exit Music'?
