Been doing content for 11 years, and I give everything I can. Constantly try and adapt and do things no one else does. Yet even then hard to rise higher cause the ceiling. There are 80 million content creators, getting above 10 viewers literally puts you in the top 5%, think about that. Thats how many creators vs viewers.
The content within this video is BANG ON! I plan on using these tips to improve my FPS paintball videos. My content is 90% reactionary with very little room for proactive content. Thanks for the tips Sam!
Totally brilliant info! Its going to be a lot to actually incorporate it into my content. Id love to hear any thoughts you have on already story driven games and how to create something within those storys? Thanks again Sam!
Buddy, I've been following you for a long time now. You were super awesome even when you first started with Harris. But your videos just keep getting better and better with every passing year. So smooth and so pro. I just wanted to say keep it up, I know you've struggled with certain platforms (and the arsehats on them) occasionally. But you have quality and that's what matters. Everytime I watch your stuff it just reminds me, "Ok... I should be polishing my videos more. I mean look at this".
Great video Sam, I've been following you ever since I first saw you in an alpha gaming video haha, hope all is well mate! I have a question regarding video format, is there any benefit to recording in .mkv rather than .mp4? I upload to RUclips and TikTok. Currently I am using .mp4 format but wondering if I should switch?
mk4 has loss protection, so if you suffer an OBS crash, it won't delete the entire recording, only the last couple of minutes. It also is the only format to support multitrack audio. You can remux through OBS to mp4 after recording and keep those channels, but if you want multitrack audio, mkv is the one to pick.
Loved the video! The age-old idea of adding story has always existed, but I'm not sure if it's ever mattered as much as it does in this current RUclips meta.
Great video Sam! I have on question about RUclips. Does frequency matter as much as it did before? Nowadays I see many creators without a frequency of posting videos, they only post if the video is ready, betting more on quality than frequency. What should small creators do?
Focus on consistency of effort vs consistency of output. 2 to 3 videos a month is fine. Just time how long it takes you to make a good video, then add padding to that. Life can get in the way so be aware of that.
@@SamWoodhall Piggy backing off of that, for smaller creators, should shorts play a roll in getting more views or should the focus be on long-form content? My shorts get way more views and I can make more of them, but seem to have a short lifespan.
A friend of mine has gotten a few viral vids from his War Thunder videos. But his other gameplays have found their own dedicated audience even though videos only come out every few weeks. Being consistent with being yourself is more important than consistent in upload schedules
Great video full of good tips. However, i still think algorithm plays a big part in this as if the handfull of people who get this video as a suggestion don't like or dislike it, won't go far. Not to mention titles, descriptions, tags, yadayada...
Yep, but a good title won't make up for poor content. It's a balance of title, topic and thumbnail, and I've explained this in other videos. But still a good point to make!
@@SamWoodhall Yeah totally, its a balance. I'm trying to get back into it as at some point i thought.. "maybe im just not as funny as my mom thinks i am".. as a reason for videos to not go further in comparison with other content i see that i personally feel had less investment but still goes a lot further ahead.
awesome video sam really useful, i have 1 question tho as i think you made an error in the obs setup. you checked track 1 on all 3 outputs and then ticked track 2 for game and 3 for something else but in your settings you ticked audio tracks 1 to 3 to be recorded, wouldnt that result in double audio or in this case triple ? as track 1 has all audio because of stream track and the others have it individually
You wouldn't get doubled up audio on stream. Any track checked for 1 = all stream audio. I may have needed one extra track for a clean mic, which is my mistake - but it sounds like you understood the idea.
Excellent video! Does the black and white filter being put on your camera when you die in Apex need to get triggered manually or is it getting that automatically from the game somehow? (or was it done in post? 🙂)
@@SamWoodhall How about story based single player games? There already is a story in the game and there are no other players to interact with. There are set goals and you don't really have much wiggle room. How do you create your own story and stakes in that scenario?
try playing cuphead if you really want to feel the All is Lost feeling , you die hundreds, maybe even thousands of times depending how good you get at the game. wanna see a cool stream setup check out these 2 streamers, Vtuber named Papi or ElDirtySquirrel. they both have the craziest most interactive streams I have seen yet other than some of the music channels I follow.
These tips are handy but what if the story is alreaddy lairs our like I’m an single player game with only one story line there is only one goal you can then follow
You have a second story. You have your story. How you feel. Your experiences. What you're thinking. Your failures and successes at quests and bosses in the game. Connecting to emotional moments. Your story. Don't let it just be confined to the game.
True this is something you need to figure out to get more views however it isn't the ONLY thing. Even if YT pushes your content you want it to be the best it can be to keep an audience around for longer. Sure the algorithm is an important part of the equation but there are plenty of videos out there talking about it and Sam isn't suggesting it isn't important but the goal of this video is to ensure you keep your audiences attention 😀

If you don't use the tips in this video and your videos aren't doing well, you have no one to blame but yourself.
Now to work out how to apply this to a cooking video
That’s pretty easy to do
@@SamWoodhall I’ve unfortunately had some trouble with it.
I’m having a case of deja vu, I feel like I’ve seen this video before
Made one like it - but this one is for a different format of game.
I would like to see this applied to a non battle royal games. what about a slow paced tactical game?
It would be the same story beats, just not as intense or action driven - or like I said, focus on value. Doesn't always need to be a challenge video.

Just a forewarning, anyone using Adobe products, don't choose mkv. For whatever reason, Adobe hates mkv, and doesn't support it anymore.
No, still choose MKV, but remux to mp4 after recording. MKV is the only format that supports multichannel audio.
@@SamWoodhall Oh, interesting. So wait, does that multi-channel audio stay multi-channel after remuxing to mp4?
The reason is: RUclips Algorithm
The REAL reason is people are making videos the audience just doesn't want to watch. Replace algorithm, with audience, and that's the reason.
@@SamWoodhall true. But main reason is algorithm and thumbnail. Your video can be the best editing art, but no one find it
