    A beautiful landscape and very helpful to me as a beginner. But as a country girl, I'm troubled that the side of the barn to the right looks pristine in contrast to the weathered side. Also, most old barns have a big upper opening on the (pristine) side for hay storage. I look forward to painting a similar winter scene without using gouache and using the lessons learned from David. Thank you for this video. I subscribed!

    David, I love your work and would also love to learn from you but I can't if you don't show me what pigments you're using. I can guess of course but.. well, it would be easier if I knew for sure. Your palette is always set up the same so would it be too hard to label (with a screen overlay) the names of pigments? Thanks.

      A great artist once gave me this advice: love the colors and just enjoy letting what you love in a painting come to life. Color choice will matter much less to your composition than value. Build up value gradually (and emphasize contrast most in the focus of your painting) and put a lot of love into it.

    • @Kyomiibrown
      @Kyomiibrown 7 лет назад +2

      Pat Kin It's not about colour, it is about tone. So as long as you get the tone correct, the colour choice is secondary, and you don't need to use the exact same pigments to achieve a similar result. Here David used various tones of blue. You could create the same image with various tones of purple for example.

    David you seem to use a wide range of colors with a limited color palette. Is that two greens and a black you have or three greens in a row on your palette? What greens are you using? It would be so helpful to have a list of your colors and the brand. I get more from your demos with less info than anyone else on RUclips. Keep up the good work!

  • @flutefun999

    For beginners, it is not easy to determine what colors you are using. You keep saying "just look at my palette" but as a beginner, I have no idea the names for those colors. It would help very much if you could NAME the colors you use. (by their technical name on the container).
    Otherwise, Your tutorials are really good and easy to follow. I just can't do it until I see what colors you actually used. :)
