Asian doing an asian impression. Fire.
Someone roasting his own race
+King Chibot
Yes it fucking is, lol...
+Ruubinnn your profile pic is the best!!!
+Ruubinnn brain explode xD
systempatcher No it's not stupid. Asia is a continent containing many countries. By your logic people in Russia are the same race as people in China. He's ORIENTAL. Smh... Damn people these days are hella fucking stupid.
The cool part about Ken is that he is a doctor turned comedian.
Yes!
omg didn't know that!
he shouldve stayed a doctor instead of becoming an UNCLE TOM who helps white people make more racist jokes about Asians. Not Cool.
mockavel213 He's not doing that on Community.
mockavel213 If you're talking about the joke he did here; he was making fun more about the culture than about race per se
Conan is more famous than Ken in Korea lmao
rennce It's true
rennce I live in korea, I suppose it is because of korean media dont interested in about 50 years old man, and even media dont aware him. and we dont know about about american internet memes.
@@soju1995 앵??그런느낌아닌디??
@Christian Espana Nope
@Christian Espana It's a stupid comment, smothered in white supremacy😂😂
Well his whole thing in America is to make fun of the Asian stereotype, that's probably not funny in Asia
nah its still funny
Sammi Kim I would argue with you but I would imagine you know better than I... All I can say is I don't really find the American stereotype funny, just sad.
True, guess it depends on your angle. I find it funny because its really just laughing at ourselves but also most stereotypes have some truth to them anyway which makes for viable jokes in the first place. Media just overuse and generalize to the point where it becomes annoying and offensive I think. But really, for comedy, most of the time really depends on how you look at it.
There is Maz Jabrooni who is persian, and stereotypes persians and we find him hilarious.
Edward Emmanuel hm... idk how to respond to that because I didn't think I was being too serious about this, I was just making an observation
Who gives a fuck about The Hangover, he ripped shit up in Community
HAH! GAAAAAAY!
Until they ruined him up in season 4 and 5
Yes!
Mojo Jojo I thought he was fine in season 5. 4 obviously not, but 5 I thought was great for him and the show
O
funny thing is that is that people in korea think he's dumb but he does have a doctor's degree
What do you call someone who barely passes med school? A doctor.
I know that joke, but that doesn't mean you're an idiot if you pass at the bottom. My uncle is a doctor and he says grades don't matter. IMHO if you're passionate, nice, and creative then you're a genius. People are either born geniuses or made into one.
lol That is not true, most people knows he's a doctor
GreenGrounds *korean people
We have tons of doctors just look like him
Ken Jeong really took the "laughter is the best medicine" to whole new level and I love it.
Conan is the only late night talkshow host whose laugh doesn't sound fake
He practiced hard to achieve thst

What most does not know is that he has a PhD in Medicine. Yep he is a Licensed Doctor.
+Deva Prasad MD
+Deva Prasad well technically.... you can't have a PhD in Medicine without having an MD.... so in order to have a "PhD in Medicine" it would automatically mean you have a dual doctoral on both "MD-PhD in Medicine". In short.... no he doesn't have a PhD in Medicine..................
In case the where one has an MD/PhD yes one holds a professional license but one with a PhD without an MD cannot legally practice medicine. You could be a PhD in a health science but without an MD or OD you cannot practice medicine.
However, this is all moot. The fact that I'm stating is that this man has an MD, not a PhD.
You are correct, I'm just saying he holds an MD and not a PhD.
+Grant S Ah yes, I meant Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) not Doctor of Optometry (OD) - stupid typo, thanks.
Actually I heard he stays in good standing with the Medical profession by continuing to practice medicine part-time
He's not a Korean actor, he is an actor who just happens to be Korean.
So question, in 2021, which of the two is less politically correct, denoting his race before his profession, or * not* mentioning his race, and by doing so somehow silencing or "other"-ing asian achievement in the field? Trick question I guess, since people will whine and bitch no matter what. Homie is a korean actor, just a factually true statement that isn't offensive, plus not to mention you don't exactly him doing a lot of shakespeare lol
@@jacobl6714 I think the original comment was just trying to say that he’s in American movies, not Korean movies so people would probably consider him an American actor more. I don’t think it was meant to be a statement on race politics lmao

So we got Conan, a Harvard graduate who got his Magna Cum Laude to become a lawyer, and then there's Ken, who's the stereotypical asian kid that played violin and graduated from medical school to become a doctor. So, basically both of them wasted their childhood for a degree they don't even use.
oh so colleges are for children
Ken still hold his medical license.
Ken did practice but after knocked up he just gave it up
Conan was able to get a good connections because of his Harvard degree (his line of work, writer for shows, tend to favor people graduated for elite colleges). Ken worked as a doctor before becoming an actor, so he was able to save up some money before trying to get a fun but unstable job. It was only when he has his breakthrough hit, hangover, did he quit being a doctor and become a full time actor.
Conan studied law?

As a Korean i can say that entertainment that most Koreans watch is pretty different from American stuff. Korean entertainment wildly consists of the generic drama, the generic rom com, the generic historical drama, copious amounts of K-Pop, and watching comedians do random shit like like play volleyball or do basic military training.
Ah, comedic variety shows you mean, that's probably the most palatable of all Asian entertainment. Japan is king of variety. Everyone other asian countries variety shows are kinda stale to me.
Lovely Days 솔직히 저분이 한 말이 맞긴 맞음
supermigit999 Even still, 무한도전 is great TV as it's so basic and raw as a form of comedy and entertainment.
supermigit999 I agree except for that I REALLY enjoy Korean variety!
Aaron Powell Noooo, Korean variety steals the show as far as I'm concerned! Running Man, Infinite Challenge, Family Outing and even a show like Happy Together: I enjoy them immensely!

he is not famous in korea
maybe conan is more famous than ken jeong in korea
jungwoo choi exactly lol
Not in North Korea.
Cedric Knight how do you?
jungwoo choi agreed.
jungwoo choi Most Korean women if not all are superficial more so than American women.
The men dont play though very business oriented and traditional, they dont be allowing women to get out of line with that BS MGTOW. Their action movies are top notch if not better than most American movies..very dark action packed yet slightly comedic.
Koreans are very astute when it comes to following the success of other Koreans internationally. They damn well know who Ken Jeong is. They recognize him as a doctor FIRST and an actor second.
I'm Korean and I never knew him until now cause we didn't watch the movies he was in. It goes same for other koreans too. We don't recognize him as a doctor, we literally don't know him. He should come out in some Korean shows and movies if he wants recognition here. Strange how you say this when you are Korean yourself. You should know better.
***** I can only guess from your response that you're 교포. All three of his movies were released in Korea under his real name 정강조. He drew a lot of attention as 엄친아 who quit being a doctor to pursue acting. Your response, though, is too funny. You say "We" don't know him, yet somehow I know him.... so did the group that mobbed in Seoul. I'm curious as to who "We" really are. By the way, the TV sitcom Community can also be seen here in Korea. He's on that show, too.
Please do not spread the wrong idea and false truth. Not many people in Korea even know who the heck that American guy is. 정강조? His real name? Do you think that's his real name? Why do many people seem to have prejudice toward (even toward their own race) non-white Americans? His real name is Ken Jeong, which sounds like one of English names out there. HE IS AMERICAN. Koreans don't recognize him as neither a doctor or actor). Most people don't even know what that guy is and/or whether he is of Korean descent. I am pretty sure many people who have watched a series of hangover think he might be of chinese descent cos in terms of fashion style, his style looks not so much like Korean. Koreans who believe they can speak English a bit, thus they understand western culture (and think western culture and society are mostly better than Korea and some of Asian countries in the most aspects) quite well seem to enjoying look down on their own country and culture by telling the false truth and/or biased opinions about them to other people from outside of Korea. Adding insult to injury, people from the U.S.A. and other countries who don't really know (or who seem to enjoy insisting that they know at least a single thing about) what Korea really is and what is actually going on in Korea seem to enjoy clicking "like" on these types of negative and ignorant comments that don't have any rationale in.
I guess evil nature principle rules at least in this modern society.
John2corner 감사합니다 !! Thanks for teaching me about.... well.... me! Let me guess... you were a teacher at a 학회 for a year, and you are now more expert at being Korean than Koreans.
쪼가리 No, for your information, I am currently living in Korea and have only lived in the states for four years. Never watched any of this 정광조's movies and so have like most of the Koreans out there thankyou. I like the actor himself though. According to this video he seems to have a nice sense of humor.
He is just an american. Why do you think that Koreans know him? It's wierd that conan expect korean to know a guy who has to communicate with in English and knows nothing about korea. He is an american who has korean ancestors. He means literally nothing more than an american actor.
Bruce Lee was born in america
I bet they know who Hugh Jackman is in Korea though. Both the Best Korea and Worst Korea.

How do people keep saying Conan's laugh is fake? I mean I can hear it a little, but it's really NOTHING. Plus, if you want to hear a fake laugh go watch Jimmy Fallon...
The sad thing about Fallon is: the laugh is real, the host is fake.
Ken Jeong is so hilarious. He's great in all the "Hangover" movies. And he's smart & funny. A real medical doctor, too. And he's such a nice, honorable, loving man - helped support his medical doctor wife as she was going through breast cancer. He says his wife is his best friend. And he's funny on NBC's "Community". Ken Jeong is awesome. :-)

He's not entirely unknown in Korea, though far from being famous. There were several newspaper articles which emphasized his being a doctor and giving up his profession to pursue his dream, usually with comments like "Wow, what an achievement!"
Somehow I doubt that most Koreans (especially men) will appreciate his stereotyping of Asian men after watching Hangover movies, complete with bad English and depiction of minuscule Asian penis to boot. The first Hangover movie didn't even make it to theaters in Korea. Maybe it says something about the probable reactions of Korean audience...
He's still a licensed MD.
+bad wolf i think his board certification has lapsed by now. in cali you have to renew your medical license every 2 years to which end you need to meet continuous medical education requirements. unless he's been doing that while pursuing acting, he can't practice medicine legally.
The great Late Greg Giraldo was a Harvard Lawyer and Ken a Doctor. Love it. Greg’s comedy was so Real and intelligent. RiP Bro. And Ken brought something new and original to the movies.

Ken participated in films that negatively portrays Asian men with perpetuating stereotypes.
Many Asian actors and actresses try to fight off these stereotypes that the media/films try to shove it down on our throat.
His choice, his loss.

Wayyyyyy too much illiteracy is being displayed in these comments for me to handle. Ken Jeong is funny! Regardless of where he is from and if they like him there. I'm African, does wearing western clothes, speaking English and living a western life make me a sell out? No. The life you choose to live is irrespective of where u come from. Unless you are paying his bills and u are his source of livelihood I strongly suggest u stop criticizing what he does and how he does it.

Idiot! I am currently getting one, I take etymology as my liberal.... Trust me! Irrespective is a word. It's been around since the 1800s. You just displayed the quality of your education. It's obviously equivalent to staying at home and learning English off google search. Stay benighted.
boowallie You're thinking of irregardless. That is not a word. Irrespective is a word. The reason irregardless is not a word is because it's a combination of two negatives, irr- and regardless.
Maybe you should take your own advice.
I’d never heard of him before watching his show... but I am pretty much proud of him that his an actor who is actually an MD. lol very interesting background to become a show host, isn’t it???

Dude I thought he was Chinese too...
Then I guess I'm of the hook ;-)
I think the main reason he isn't popular in Korea is that he doesn't speak Korean. Many people really don't like Korean-Americans that don't learn Korean. Maybe it's a unfair, but that's how it is. I'm white and living in Korea, and I'm doing my best to learn the language, but I still get some stink eye when I don't speak Korean well.
He isn't popular in Korea partly cuz he doesn't speak Korean and makes living from degrading/mocking his own race=our race(I'm Korean as well), but mostly because he ISN'T AS CUTE AS BRADLEY COOPER. lol honest answer right there.. and fyi, you get stink eye in Korea when you don't speak Korean well probably because its inconvenient and that frustrates them, not because of you. They(we)know that Korean is not an international language so we don't have that "LEARN ENGLISH!!!!" kind of attitude that SOME Americans seem to have. I hope your experience in Korea has been good for you and wish for more in the future. :)
The reason simply is that not just some Koreans but, I'm willing to bet, the majority of Koreans don't even know who he is. The Hangover movies are far from popular in Korea. And a show like Community wouldn't appeal to Koreans' tastes either. As far as degrading/mocking his own race as playdearbird points out, check out the 'Gag Concert' or 'SNL Korea' shows and compare some of their characters with characters that Ken Jeong plays or his references to Korea. Many Koreans especially love Gag Concert, young and old. Anyway, Koreans simply don't have exposure to his work.
***** It's not a matter of "not being allowed", any comedian that bases there comedy on their own racial stereotypes usually burns out quickly and is seen as "hacky" by most respected comedians and also seen as insulting by many of their own race. With white and black comedians, it's not as obvious because they don't really do fake accents as much as asian or hispanic comedians. Carlos Mencia and Dat Pham are the two names that really come to mind as primary examples of this.
playdearbird Thank you. Mostly people are very kind towards me here, and I think it is more of a convenience thing, but there is a small percentage of the population (much smaller than the US) that feel like foreigners should speak Korean if they want to live in Korea. I was told in broken English by a lady at Lotte Mart "You live in Korea, you should speak Korean".
DeeDubb1983 Koreans have a very strong sense of Nationalism, so its easy to see why he isn't popular there, given he can't speak Korean. I went to Korea once and they are a very friendly people, unlike some stereotypes you hear. Loved the experience.
I'm vietnamese but i really enjoy this man's humor.

Why he is not popluar in Korea?
There is two reason.
First, Korean rarely watch Comedy films. We have planty comedy shows on TV, though.
Second, Korea is one of a few countries people watch their native movies more then hollywood's.
So American comedy movies Korean rarly watches .
However, I remember some Korean-relatived actors or actresses.

I'm Korean and I never heard of this guy for my entire life until today when I accidentally bump into this video after watching some Conan's clips...
and he totally made that story up, no korean or any other decent person would ever say something like "no one likes you" to his face when meeting for the first time...
Actually they would due to his portrayal of Asians. I mean I love him but these other tight was no life Asians don't.
In America, when comedians come on to talk shows, half of their stories are highly exaggerated versions of the truth or made up entirely. The audience knows this. Don't need to take it so seriously.
Nathan Hanson Exaggerated or not, Showing stereotype should be avoided.
he's exaggerating for comedic effect. i don't think most of the people watching believed that this literally happened they just think its funny.
I LOVE THIS GUY HOW IS HE NOT POPULAR IN KOREA

I highly doubt people in Korea actually said "no one likes you, I don't like you" to him -.- he probably made that up for the show, to be funny. And yes, he's not popular in Korea. Why? Well simple, the movie wasn't popular.
Koreans are very blunt and say it how it is, so I don't doubt his story.
