Always good watching these ride-alongs. I remember doing this as a kid in the 60s. Sitting alongside dad in what were old trucks even then. Mucking around with dozers and stuff. Ended up around machines all my working life. Love it, mate. 👍
Yes mate that’s great and that’s how I did also. Going with dad in trucks and equipment. I’ve been with a quarry company now for near 23 years, since I left school. Driven dump trucks and 631 scrapers, semis, floats and dog trailers but mainly in the workshop. Pulling a d9t apart as I’m replying to you actually
Old girl gets along nicely,,, also highlighting the magnificent physique and sensible apparel of the typical Aussie truckie for our international viewers was a good idea. I thought that was me in the blue singlet for a sec. Great work mate. Thanks for sharing.
Yes mate that’s right. The blokes helping me are truckies also, I’m sure you worked that out already, with the singlet and stubbies on one of the blokes
Watching again lol enjoy that Ole Detroit and the way you shift gears making it scream like you are trying to pull the world over !!!! The crackerbox is awesome what do you think you will do with it !!! Awesome evening little brother and little sister from another country down under 😂
Armstrong steering ya gotta luv it Aye drove butta box Inter agitator backing down drive ways had ta stand up and reaf the wheel not good memories CHEERS STEVE
Hi Ron. It has got power steering. It was pumping out the oil from a loose fitting on the steering cylinder on the way out the back gate. It wasn’t till I yelled out onto the road that I realised it had run out of oil
G'day mate nice work 👌 Years ago l was on maintenance arvo shift at local meat works N was my job to unload n load maintenance gear when trucks came in and general rule was don't be in too much of a hurry Get your jobs done first Always tried to keep old mate trucking along because it's not hard to imagine life of a truckie even though never been in one
It is mate but it was harder this time because there was a loose fitting on the power steering that pumped all the oil out and I didn’t realise so it was full manual and heavy. Yes it is noisy but blokes put up with it. That’s new mufflers on it aswell and still noisy
Hi mate. It’s actually power assisted but it had a loose fitting on the steering cylinder and was pumping the oil straight onto the ground and I didn’t realise till I went to steer it out the gate. It must of been empty at this stage. I fixed it after loading. It’s never light but it’s certainly easier than just manual steering
Sorry for butting in here but the 9 series 10 and 15 sp the RTO 910 and 915s had the exact same set of gear ratios and were all evenly spaced, no gaps at 26% which is perfect for a Detroit keeping the RPMs up meaning each gear has a 400 RPM drop when changing. You can tell it's an overdrive box when he changes from 3rd to 4th the round the corner shift on the same gate.
G,day Steve,, sure like the transparency cab over ,, good pile of bones for a restore job on a rare truck in Australia ,, way worth looking at , and bet in unique value probably worth more than the Kenny just for being rare and good looking body works and trim lines
Hi mate. I actually have two of these transtar cabovers. There is a video of me starting the other one up if you haven’t already seen that. I also have a bonnet transtar 400. It hasn’t really appeared much on the channel yet
Hi mate to my limited knowledge of them they are the same thing. Please correct me if I’m wrong, I’d like to know. The other one I have had both co4070 and transtar badges on it. I can’t think if this one has the 4070 badges on it.
@@stevesplacedownunder if u ever catch maximum overdrive that's a mid to late 60s CO4000 the Orange truck 100% and in 1984 The Terminator by the door lock tells me yours is an early gen 2 I say like pre 72 model because growing 90s kid here in CAL USA the was a light blue one near my house with rectangle door locks Transtar 2 I believe it was a 1975. I'm looking forward to seeing how it comes out that design International harvester was always my favorite
Ok mate that’s interesting. I think is a 72, I haven’t looked into it but I’ve always been told it was. I won’t be doing up this particular one any time soon but will be doing up a prime mover one I have with an 871 in it. Exactly same cab just shorter wheel base and different engine

Thanks for the ride along mate ! Lots of people just dont know how busy a driver is with just the gear lever , let alone all else ! 🌵
No problem mate. She certainly is a handful but that’s how I like the old girls 😂
Started my 1930 White this noon, then came in to watch videos. Those Detroits can’t be too loud, I dozed off watching you drive!
One just watched it mate before I read this. That’s a nice truck indeed. They are noisy mate but it’s soothing enough to do that

Thanks for watching mate. Yes that’s right. They need to keep moving mate. Especially the owner operators I’m sure
Enjoyed vid Steve 👍 it' looked a work out operating that old lorry I could not imagine putting up with that noise all day

Awesome stuff guys, thanks for sharing your time with us all, Gerald, Feilding, New Zealand.
Hi Gerald no problem mate thanks for watching from over there. Great stuff
G'day Steve good ol arm strong steering brings back a lot of memories

When I saw both hands turning the wheel must be armstrong
It was at that time mate indeed
You have a nice and interesting mix of videos going Steve ! 👍
Cheers, Ard
Thanks Ard. I’ve got plenty of stuff sitting around to get the variety mate
Would be nice to rebuild it precarious lift though
I have one I am rebuilding from the parts off this one
Mint experience Steve, thanks for sharing 🙂 10-speed Roadranger? You certainly know your way around it 😎
Thanks mate. It’s a 15 speed overdrive. It’s nice to use

Hi mate great video. Has the Kenworth got a Jake Brake?
Keep up the great videos.
Hi mate thanks. Yes it does but i barely use them around town here. The engine itself make’s enough noise as it is😂. I use them if it’s heavy though
First time I've watched this one Steve. Nice old crackerbox. How much you give em for that TranStar ?
I got it off my uncle. He bought it for parts and I got the rest. Can’t remember what I paid for it
Now is that a CO4070 series or just a Transtar

DCO 4070 Transtar it is and the bonneted ones were DCFs

The Armstrong power steering needs some works.
It’s actually power steering mate. A fitting was loose on the cylinder and was pumping it onto the ground on the way to the back gate. I didn’t realise till I pulled out onto the road
@@stevesplacedownunder Thats good, it looked like hard work.
It was mate and I couldn’t work out why till I got where I was going. Because it’s usually nice to steer
It was mate
Is it really that noisy in your cab or does the mic make it sound noisier?
It is very noisy mate. The camera brings out all the rattles in the cab more but the engine noise certainly is
Steve Has that olgirl got Armstrong steering?
No mate. I got to where I was going and looked under it to realise that a fitting was loose and had drained the power steering
