Pride is the mirror of shame. Not long ago in my own life-time in Canada one could be put in jail for the “shame” of having the wrong sexual identity. Still today some in this community in some countries are put to death. For generations this community was forced to hide in shame due to their “sin.” Now this same community openly counters that previous social shame by marching in public proclaiming “pride” to counter that previous social shame in an act of liberation. Unfortunately, the very same ones who forced the shame upon them in the first place can now “shame” them again by claiming they are sinning because they have “pride” and are showing no “shame.” To counter external shame by finding shared inner pride is the path to a balanced social humility. Attacking those who seek pride upon their own path to try and live in a state of social acceptance and humility, is shameful. Pride is a desert one walks with the devil. Shame is a crucifixion. Both were good enough for Jesus upon the path to transcendence. Why deny the same path to others? Celebrate it. Sanctify the endless path of pride and shame towards transcendence.
