Have had my 93 C4 almost 2 years now. Picked her up with second set of new rims and tires , new exhaust and intakes, and long paperwork trail of documented services but she still has been an ongoing project. With 27 years worth of issues to catch up on there has been some expensive, but she sure has been worth it. So far I’ve done weatherstripping/ blower motor and module / FX3 shock / breaks and rotors / radiator / fuel pump / gauge refurbished/ head light rebuilds / and long list of cosmetic touches… yesterday I just picked her up from shop with a brand new water pump/ opti/ harmonic balancer for $1,200. It’s been a journey but bringing her back to her former glory has been a blast and I absolutely LOVE the car and corvette community. Vette❤️Life

@@SingerAuto1967 - I believe that well cared for C4’s that haven’t been neglected will definitely be going up, they are truly a joy to drive and even with incurred maintenance and repair cost you get more bang for your buck with a C4 than any other Vette. Plus there is that emotional component to now owner the car you fell asleep dreaming about as a kid❤️❤️❤️

if you are replacing the water pump/ optispark...I also recommend you get a new aluminum 2 core radiator my 94 stays at 194F all the time ...I used to see temperatures as high as 235 ...even on the hottest days it will not reach 200 ...can't go wrong with a DeWitts radiator and fan setup

I've had my 6sp '94 Polo Green for 20 years and it's been extremely
reliable. This week I took it in for a clutch fork and throw-out bearing
replacement. Thought of doing the work myself but decided it was too
involved. The only complaint is that the front suspension towers dance
when pushed, especially when the top is removed. For those who may not
know, the C4 was originally intended to be a T top for structural
rigidity. GM's president at the time demanded the engineers redesign it
to be a Targa (to compete with Porsche) so they had to enforce the frame
hence the high door sills. Adding the X cross member from a convertible
would greatly tighten it's rigidity and adding a camber bracket across
the suspension front towers. I've also upgraded to Z06 18" wheels and
Nitto tires which made a significant difference in handling. I still
    love driving her!

Great video and analysis of where Corvette fits in the world of cars. I also have a Jeep Grand Cherokee that I drive most of the time, but any time I get in mine (2016 Stingray) it makes me feel young and different ( I am 60). I have a Mustang GT too but the Vette is in a different league. I have always loved C4 and when they came out, with the state of car industry as it were, it was an absolute revolution. _Totally spot on about the C4! Chicago 17 was a really decent greatest hits lp. For me, it was Chicago IX(also the greatest hits but from significantly earlier) and a '74 Corvette, later a '75 Corvette convertible. 1974 was my very first Corvette(not bad for a barely nineteen-year-old kid). Still, drive one today, also a C4(owned 7), a 1996 convertible(which I will never sell). Plenty of good commentaries here for sure, and yes if you find a lower mileage example, a person will save $$ in the long run. Couldn't agree with your more about the car on your points. I enjoyed my 1990 M6 Convertible very much. I thought it was super cool when I got it. I just didn't like the way it wouldn't rev, more noticeable with the m/t and the deep 6th gear was sluggish on the highway with the stock 3.33 gears. The other piece was the chassis integrity. After sorting our the car I got the TPI up to 375 HP and 475 ft-lb of torque and added chassis braces. Once that was done it ran high 12's in the 1/4 mile which was kind of a disappointment but that's TPI. The real benefit of that build was it felt like an absolute monster on the street in everyday driving and delivered 30 MPG. The owner of the car still calls me giddy he loves it so much. Moral of the story is they are small money to buy and small money to modify compared to just about any other sports car. I still have a mint '89 in storage that I have to still sort out when I get some free time.

Everything he says is pretty right on ... the only exception is the headlights. The first thing to look at if the headlights don't roll over is inside the gear compartment. There are three teflon cylinders. They are there to intentionally break or wear out in case something stops the headlights from going up. Over the years (I had my C4 for 25 years) both times those cylinders had worn down to a nub. They were about $10 on Eckler's and easy to change out.

    • @SingerAuto1967

@@SingerAuto1967 Okay - but they are not gears at all. I think they are referred to as pellets that go in the gear housing. I thought that to when he said headlight motors, but he then corrected it by saying nylon gears. Every single vett will have this issue. Not even a big deal to replace nylon gears for 30 bucks set. Or spend money on brass gear. Brake jobs are super easy. Nothing difficult with these cars. Opti spark has been over blown. 95 and 96 got vacuum fix to opti. Pulls moisture from throttle body. Yes they have to be replaced. Consider it a must

Got the AC working ice cold and cruise works. Had to do the digital gauge and in my opinion the 80's digital gauge is 100% better then the 90's and worth loosing the 50 or whatever HP you get with the LT's. With AC on and cruise set at 60 I can get to about 28 and 32 with AC off. Pretty wicked to me.

Also check recall on NHTSA, as C4 Corvettes from 1984 model year to 1991 had a serious safety recall regarding both ,driver and passenger side seatbelts extractors.Recall came out in 1991 but a lot of owners never received the recall notice in the mail .The Recall campaign number is:91C25 & 91C26 and if any side had been GM should of placed a recall campaign sticker on the left and right side of radiator shroud. General Motors is supposed to replace them but there are no new OEM seatbelts for these cars, and aftermarket from Zipp Corvettes or Corvette Central are available. Also , the recall notice it states that GM will replace them if defective and if they happen in the future will replace them and to keep a copy to provide when car is sold to another person.NHTSA is very thorough, and under the freedom of information act GM dealership replaced ones for other C4 corvette owner with aftermarket ones and even installed as the exceeded the 60 day recall period for non compliance. As in 2017, C4 corvette owner for a 1987 was a unable to get out of vehicle and had to use a 12 inch screwdriver to pry buckle offhand another owner could not get out fast enough after accident and sustained burns.Might be wise to carry seatbelt cutter or utility knife! Just an FYI as all owners of C4 corvettes from 84-1991should know about it and it was General Motors responsibility to send and inform owners of this safety issue, and dealerships should have advised these owners whenever booked in for service. Anyhow these are very beautiful and great handling sportscars cars.

At 3:15 that is true an Eco boost Mustang pushes 305 hp but it does not have the torque of the Lt1 or Lt4 and is a lot slower than the LT1/LT4.. I have both cars.. 2019 Mustang and a 1996 LT4.. Nice upload by the way.. Also Chevrolet and aftermarket providers have discontinued the dual mass flywheel so when it's time for a new clutch you'll have to convert it to a single mass flywheel because that kind of flywheel can't be turned at a machine shop.. When you convert it to single mass it's going to pick up A LOT of gear chatter ( trust me, i know ) But you can buy a product called Shock add it to the 6 spd to eliminate most but not all of that gear chatter

Attention!!!! He says if he motors for the C4 headlights are bad, rebuild them and get new plastic gears. However, 90% of the time the gears are not what is bad and rather the 3 bushings that sit in each motor are what are bad. Usually you will open up the headlight and there will be plastic dust around the gear. These are the bushings that have been turned to powder after years of use. All you need to do is replace the 3 bushings in the headlight motors and the problem should be fixed. This is much cheaper than getting either new gears or a new motor all together.

    • @SingerAuto1967
      @SingerAuto1967  2 года назад

From what I’ve seen on the 6 C4s I’ve owned you are correct….the bushings are the problem. However they normally wear on the gear. Most places sell the bushings or bushings and gear together. On the one that sells gear and bushings you can get a metal or plastic gear. What I’m referring to is not getting the one with the metal gear because it wears the new bushings out faster. And while you’re in there it’s foolish not to change the gear also while it’s apart since it’s normally not much more with the gear than just the bushings. Thanks for watching!
