This car will do 170MPH. That's pretty incredible for a small block 350. Since I'm 70 now, I use the sill to sit on getting in and out of the car. Makes it so much easier for me. Owned it for 30 years and kept it up well. Very few issues! 103K.
My jeep recently caught fire and needed a reliable vehicle fast as a daily driver. My good friend offered me his 94 Arctic White Vette Coupe for a major deal and I absolutely know the care he put into it. Such a weird circumstance and offer I had to take it. A Vette would be the last car I'd even think of when looking for a reliable vehicle in today's used market (up 30%), but here I am with THE PEAK 90's car.
I agree . Took a while ,but a few years ago I found a lo-mile 96 LT4 in Fla. Flew down and bought it ,drove it 850 miles home. Fun car. She calling to me now. Cheers !
I've had my 6sp '94 Polo Green for 20 years and it's been extremely reliable. This week I took it in for a clutch fork and throw-out bearing replacement. Thought of doing the work myself but decided it was too involved. The only complaint is that the front suspension towers dance when pushed, especially when the top is removed. For those who may not know, the C4 was originally intended to be a T top for structural rigidity. GM's president at the time demanded the engineers redesign it to be a Targa (to compete with Porsche) so they had to enforce the frame hence the high door sills. Adding the X cross member from a convertible would greatly tighten it's rigidity and adding a camber bracket across the suspension front towers. I've also upgraded to Z06 18" wheels and Nitto tires which made a significant difference in handling. I still love driving her!
@@kanamekiyru After three seasons of competition in SCCA sports car racing the C4 dominated Porche to the extent that C4 were banned to competition in their own series called the Corvette Challenge.
I'm 6'2 inches tall, and I can't put one foot in first when getting in, because that's a great way to break the seat back. Just turn around, sit down, and put one leg at a time in. Also, never use the steering wheel to get in and out, as it wallows out the pin holes that lets it tilt. Then the steering wheel becomes loose and wobbly, and expensive to repair.
I am also 6'2" and I do the same "trust fall" into the seat with hands on the frame rail, then one leg after the other. I avoid the steering wheel like the plague getting in and out. :)
For the flex issues with the top off, try to find an x-brace from a junked convertible or the vette-2-vette chassis brace. I got the latter and it made a world of difference. Top off and on
Agree. I put one on my 1990 Convertible and dumped the X brace. It's stiffer then the x brace and does not get in the way of basic maintenance under the car.
Back in the 90's I owned a '92 C4 auto (Black Rose color) and then a '94 C4 T56 manual (Admiral Blue). I loved them both. They were extremely reliable, drove them both daily to work. Had a company picnic in which it was tradition to do a burnout at the end. One of my coworkers had a C4 6 speed that he really wanted to do a burnout in but didn’t know how. Me, having had a couple wobble pops said - I’ll show you how - and he gave me the keys. So I went out, dropped the clutch in 1st, slammed the brake and did a nice standing still burnout. Feeling confident and that it would be even better to do the burnout in 2nd - gave it another go. Revved it up, popped clutch and hit the brake, and listened to that 350 v8 sing. After a few seconds realized, hmm, I don’t think that’s tires I smell. Yup - all clutch. My buddy said he could smell the clutch the whole rest of the night. 10/10 would do again.
Brakes are one of the things that really evolved. I converted my 2016 Cadillac CTS VSport to the 6 piston 390 mm/ 4 piston 365mm setup. 15"+ rotors up front and 14"+ in the rear.
The C3 really is the pinnacle of style. It doesn't have the obvious 90's "try-hard cool" look, but nor does it have the classic "old man car" look of earlier cars. It's like they tweaked the look until it looked good without adherence to the vogue appearance of the decade. While I'm strongly considering buying a C4, if I could get a C3 with the features of the C4, that'd be my dream car. Then again, if I could get a stock, 100% working, low-mile Mitsubishi 3000GT Vr4 twin-turbo, that would also be my dream car. Too bad the dang thing had so many bells and whistles that it's almost impossible to get _everything_ working without selling at least a portion of your soul.

That 370 horsepower in 1970 was gross rating while the 300hp LT1 rating in 1992 is net rating. So the 92 vette actually has more horsepower than the 1970.
@@eriklehnsherr5784 Richard Holdener tested the older LT1 and the 90's LT1, and the 90's LT1 makes more power hands down. The 70's LT1 was also running an electric water pump, which is advantageous: ruclips.net/video/uIKIB-z_xi0/видео.html
I have several of these and my favorite by far is the 1989. Still get the iconic C4 digital gauge set and a Gen1 small block Chevy engine and all the perks that comes with that. So easy to get the 50 HP back from the LT1 (and then some) for small money and not have the opti issues. 90 and up interiors to me are far inferior and GM really missed the mark on those. But I'm in the minority on that opinion. The ZR1 had no chance against Porsche because of interior materials and the "sill" given the price point. But agree it's an absolute bargain and a great platform for sure. One of these days I'll pick up a '96 GS, lol. Highly recommend picking up one of these cars and sorting it out. I had my 1990 6 speed convertible running in the 12's no problem even with the TPI.
We spent a tad more at 15k on a 96 Collectors Edition 36k LT4:) Such an amazing fun car for the price! I am in love! I was born in 80 and spent my childhood seeing this style and never appreciated it as much as I do now. Great Video!

Original owner of a 91 with 6 speed and adjustable ride control. 91k miles, all original including the clutch with exception of replacing tires, alternator, and fuel injectors. A/C cold as ice. even the wiper blades are the originals. Need to replace the headlight gears as they are chattering now but still work. Have driven it almost to the limits on the Ozark mountain curves and had it up to 140 mph. Still brings a smile to my face when I take it for a drive. Dark red metalic exterior, saddle interior.
Hey - Great Show - am in Vegas & been looking for a 90-96 for about 8 months - so many choices - ABSOLUTELY True: Best car ever - can't wait to be part of the Club🎯🔥😉😎
Hey, the 1970 LT-1 had 370 brake horsepower - measured with just the engine by itself and not even in the car. The 1990s LT1 was rated using net horsepower (power at the rear wheels) and it's actually more powerful.
The LT-1 was measured in gross horsepower, with no accessories (alternator, air conditioner, etc) and optimized tuning (spark timing, no exhaust). After around 1971, the industry went to net horsepower, which is *not* measured at the rear wheels. However, the engine is tested 'as-installed' -- all accessories, standard tuning, full exhaust, etc. You are correct, though that 300 net hp is probably pretty close (or better) that the 1970 LT-1
Finally! I've been waiting for Elliott to do something with the C4 since I started following the channel. The targa top really is the best part. I love my 3rd gen Camaro t-tops but the targa is better

I felt lucky to have a 1966 VW 1300 bug in high school, while most of the rich girls had brand new BMW 320i’s. The rich guys had Lotus Esprits, Triumph Stags, lots of Datsun 240,260 or 280 Z’s, Camaros and Firebirds. You and your friends flew around in private airplanes ✈️! @@ElliottAlvis I really did. I wasn't even really into Corvettes at the time I was just looking for something affordable with a good power train and back in 2019 when I started looking I noticed C5's at an all time low and C5Z06's in my area of TX where going for $12k. I noticed that C6s were also creeping down in price. Anyways I searched for almost a year and just happened to find this at a Japanese import lot and it didn't have a single mod. It's a 2005 first year car and it had 115k miles on it. After getting paperwork from the Corvette museum it turns out the guy that custom ordered it got every single optional upgrade possible including the Z51 package that wasn't even badged at that time. Since I got it so cheap I've since added a lot of upgrades.
Yes been waiting for c4 content....you've motivated me to possibly keep my c4 that has sat for 4 years....can't wait for more Volvo content too....keep rockin brother 👍👍
Agree on all counts, C4 is the underrated value of the supercar world. Great yellow/black rims look, really "pops". I'm from Canada and considering getting a manual 96 as a "toy" for my retirement. Is the fender double-stripe black accent original or something you added as an homage to the Grand Sport? Nice touch!
It really is a game changer! My first C4 was an automatic. I still loved it, but it’s amazing what a difference the manual makes. Thanks for watching Kim!
Living in NZ, these things are super rare though still pretty affordable if you can find one. My neighbor has one in RHD, license plate is "DRFLGD" - he owns a panel shop, his daily driver is a X5M. So yeah, typical Corvette driver even in NZ.
I've been thinking about buying a Corvette, and these C4s have caught my eye recently, but I think I'll go with a C3 Vette. I really like the 1980-81 body style.
you have lit the fire in me, been debating on one of these for a couple years now, been doing some research. and i think this video has pushed me over the edge for c4 lollll
I bought my high school dream car a 1995 polo green C4 with tan interior. It’s been so fun. Only complaint is when the top is out it doesn’t feel as rigid. But that’s a given. Buy them now. Every one says they hate a C4 till they drive one.
Ayy, 1992! Mine's a 92, one day I hope I can get it as clean as yours. Mines got a rough idle and paint needs a refresh, but hey she's a daily and I love that car. Got 104k on it right now.
...and this 2nd generation c4 continues to go up in value. So a nice one for 10 or under would be tough. You're going to be looking at 13 to 18 for good example.
Really like these! Sure the infamous Lotus Carlton shared the transmission with the C4 🤔 a real monster which GM got a lot of stick for from the British press 🥱🤣 Great video
Great car video. These are great. I own a C6Z so I understand that they actually do get awesome fuel economy and each generation is the best bang for the buck. Ten grands almost in reach for most people even those in small towns.
Last time I was at my Vette mechanic's shop I asked him his least favorite Vette TO WORK ON....(he's been doing Vettes for decades including a frame off restoration of C1). Without hesitation he said the C4. Specifically anything electronic (the dash, a lot of parallel wiring before miniaturization and heats effect adding that access can be tough too. He did share that he saw the C4 also as also the best buy in the storied lineup....interesting
So my friend bought an 87 Convertable Vette with 50k miles for 5000$ dollars. Guy had it parked in his garage and never drove it and practically gave it away, however they're not exactly the most reliable especially the older ones nicknamed the Seize 4. They're fun to drive but not exactly the fasted car on the market. 7/10 would reccomend if you don't mind it stranding you once in a while haha
They could have made removing the top a bit more convenient by using the same latch system that my '94 convertable uses. The top on my '93 coupe is a pita to remove.

@@ElliottAlvis But a dork with some cool cars!!! Some even dorky. HA!!
I gave up on women, so I never took a girl to prom and I will never know what that is like.
This Video Cured my cancer. I owe you my life Sir.
I'm from Kentucky about an hour from Bowling Green and this video makes me want a C4 Corvette. ASAP
Great video. Best vette presentation ever...good job Elliot.
We spent a tad more at 15k on a 96 Collectors Edition 36k LT4:) Such an amazing fun car for the price! I am in love! I was born in 80 and spent my childhood seeing this style and never appreciated it as much as I do now. Great Video!
My dad had a collector’s edition when I was a kid. Great choice! Thanks for watching!
Ive got an 87 z51 , here in Australia , its a full on head turner . Its converted to rhd . Love the feel of bein a cheeseburger off the ground . Racecar with rego plates
Great car. Thanks for finally sharing it with us. Greetings from Montréal !!
C4 is extremely underrated
I grew up in Somerset Ky 80 miles from the factory, I remember when they started production now in my fifties im looking to buy one
Denim shorts: Check
New Balance: Check
Lawn Chair: Check
Great intro and great video!
Hey - Great Show - am in Vegas & been looking for a 90-96 for about 8 months - so many choices - ABSOLUTELY True: Best car ever - can't wait to be part of the Club🎯🔥😉😎
That Corvette looks very nice. The model that improved the brand.
@@tonyflorio3269 Hey Tony, thank you for the correction. I didn't realize that the net horsepower rating was still not measured at the wheels. 🙂
Finally! I've been waiting for Elliott to do something with the C4 since I started following the channel. The targa top really is the best part. I love my 3rd gen Camaro t-tops but the targa is better
Nice! Yeah I love T-Tops too, but having no bar overhead just makes that much more of a difference. Thanks for watching man!
You're a great presenter, Elliott. Enjoy your videos. From Las Vegas.
Love it! That is a good looking C4, Corvette owners seem to think that their particular example is 1 of 1, always pointing out the specific feature that makes theirs unique 😂 Shout-out from Charleston IL, home of Eastern Illinois University, alma mater of Tony Romo and Jimmy Garropolo
I love it that you still have your beautiful high school Corvette, most guys would kill to still have their high school cars. It’s awesome that Hoovie has the Mercedes SL that he drove and that his grandmother drove! What incredible lifetime memories to cherish for the rest of your lives.
I dont have anything to add beyond you're right ! I have a 97 Camaro SS LT1 6 speed and it is a blast
I bought a clean bone stock C6 Corvette for $10k in Jan 2020. Best bang for the buck I've ever owned. I'm tempted to pick up a C4 just for fun.
Holy crap, you got a smokin deal!
Great to see you take the Vette out and enjoying it! I smiled a lot watching this 🤙
👋🇬🇧
My wife has a 1987 fun car "but" we have dubbed entry and exit the Fall and Crawl. Corvettes are so much fun.
Nice touch!
That stirpe came on the grand sport version of the C4 only
Is this your first premiere, I swear this must be. EXCITED !!!
It was fun!
Yep, without question the best performance value out there now.
I did it for Dale in my 92 C4
Yessir! Just got a c5 corvette for 10k mid pandemic, great deal and another vette for 10k!!
Great video man! I suddenly have the urge to drive one of these
I love the lightheartedness of your videos! Have a great day everyone!
I so wish my c4 was a stick shift!game changer ❤️my C4
It really is a game changer! My first C4 was an automatic. I still loved it, but it’s amazing what a difference the manual makes. Thanks for watching Kim!
Automatic ,just takes away from the whole concept of the car, it's the American sport car muscle
I have a 90 corvette as my daily and i love it!
Living in NZ, these things are super rare though still pretty affordable if you can find one. My neighbor has one in RHD, license plate is "DRFLGD" - he owns a panel shop, his daily driver is a X5M. So yeah, typical Corvette driver even in NZ.
It's aLiVe! C4 painting the pavement again with the rear tires!!
Heck yes! Just like it did back in 2007
I've been thinking about buying a Corvette, and these C4s have caught my eye recently, but I think I'll go with a C3 Vette. I really like the 1980-81 body style.
You're right. No comparison.
@@sharksport01 Also with lackluster performance!
@@JohnDoe-kh1mt
We're talking body style.
@@sharksport01 And I'm talking about performance.
you have lit the fire in me, been debating on one of these for a couple years now, been doing some research. and i think this video has pushed me over the edge for c4 lollll
Hey, that’s great news! Get one!
Nice car! Well I'm in East London South Africa. Always welcome to pop over. I'll show you some big cats. Keep the video's coming.
I bet you've got some really big cats in your area!
Great video! Love my 89 Corvette in Johnstown PA
Thanks Thomas!
I bought my high school dream car a 1995 polo green C4 with tan interior. It’s been so fun. Only complaint is when the top is out it doesn’t feel as rigid. But that’s a given. Buy them now. Every one says they hate a C4 till they drive one.
I'm glad i clicked on a fellow Kansan's video, i'm hoping to secure a C4 very soon!!
I loved my 93 c4 Corvette but I love my 2000 C5 more. Great Video.
Ayy, 1992! Mine's a 92, one day I hope I can get it as clean as yours. Mines got a rough idle and paint needs a refresh, but hey she's a daily and I love that car. Got 104k on it right now.
that's one big smile when u did a burn out there Elliott
I love how my 85 has 3 buttons to pop the hatch one on each door and one in the center console
...and this 2nd generation c4 continues to go up in value.
I just bought a 1993 ruby red convertible in mint condition today for $10,500. Beautiful fast car.
The hydraulics for the hatch cost about $14 and take 20 seconds to replace.
Great car video. These are great. I own a C6Z so I understand that they actually do get awesome fuel economy and each generation is the best bang for the buck. Ten grands almost in reach for most people even those in small towns.
Exactly! I want a C6Z one day for a dedicated Autocross car.
I love the looks of the c4, I'm not sure why I haven't seen more with resto drive trains.....Ls, Ls9,Lt4...ect
Smart investment! Legendary and iconic American sportscar that ruled the 80s well into the 90s.
Love the jean shorts and polo shirt
Thanks John. I'm all about the Corvette look!
I like these kind of Doug DeMuroish videos you do, definitely awesome content
Thanks Simon! These informative videos are fun to do!
@@ElliottAlvis i'm sure they are!
They could have made removing the top a bit more convenient by using the same latch system that my '94 convertable uses. The top on my '93 coupe is a pita to remove.
