The C4 is the first "modern" Corvette from which all future Corvettes were born from until C8. C4 still holds land speed records and dominated SCCA sports car racing to the point a separate series had to be developed for it. The C4 isn't fiberglass and it doesn't get spider web cracking. The more Corvettes don't look like Corvettes anymore the more I love the clean lines and look of my 93 Coupe. Hatchback Coupes have more room for luggage.
However, back in the day Barbie made all the cash... after all, remember she worked her a** off: Astronaut, Computer engineer, Dentist, Pilot, Surgeon, Firefighter, Bee keeper, Cat burglar, Construction worker, Cowgirl, Dolphin trainer, Ocean treasure explorer
I have nearly the exact same car (black top, black interior) and I'm so happy I don't need to worry about resale value because I'll never sell. The car was my dad's. I was 8 when he picked it up from the dealership. It was his "American dream." Now it's mine and I get to drive my kids around in it. I understand why a lot of car people don't respect the C4, especially since so many were made, but for a lot of us they are special cars that I think have aged well, styling and handling wise.
There is a '83 Corvette. It's in the museum in Bowling Green. There were production delays, so they cancelled the '83. They had built a few of them (can't remember the number) and GM ordered them crushed. I guess someone hid one and it's now in the museum. I do remember that the last of the C3's we're done in the new Bowling Green plant. Corvette had been built in St. Louis. I like the convertible body better on the C3, C4, C5 and C6. I never liked the bubble rear glass that they started on the '78. It only looked good on the '63. I actually preferred the convertible on the C2 as well. They finally got the Coupe right on the C7 IMO.
I owned the same 89 corvette with the white top and replaced it with a black top, it looked so much better after replacing the top. The C4 was so futurastic for its day and was a very well made car. Mine had the automatic and it got great gas mileage. Someday they will start appreciating and if you own one, i'd keep it.
Nope. Both wrong. Two C4 went in the sink hole. A 1993 Ruby that had been donated to the museum, it was not restored. And the 1,000,000th built Corvette, a white/red convertible 1992 that was recovered, repaired and restored by GM "Styling". I put styling in quotes because I don't recall the exact entity that did the work, but the restoration was completed in-house at GM facilities. There's no such thing as a 1984 Pace Car, because the Corvette did not pace Indy in 1984.
@@davep800 The Bowling Green Daily News reports that the sinkhole, said to be about 20 ft. deep and 30 to 40 ft. in diameter, triggered motion-detector alarms at 5:38 AM in the dome area of the museum. The eight cars claimed by the sinkhole include the 1993 ZR-1 Spyder, a 2009 "Blue Devil" ZR1, a black 1962 roadster, a 1984 PPG Pace Car, the 1 Millionth Corvette (a white '92 model), a 1993 40th Anniversary Corvette, a 2001 Mallett Hammer Corvette Z06, and the 1.5 Millionth Corvette (a white '09 car). The two ZR1s were on loan from General Motors, while the rest of the cars were owned by the museum.
a 94-96 with the Targa top are the best ones. Great visibility, weather sealed, quiet interior, 300HP, both mine got 25 mpg on long trips ( both were 4 sp auto ) and they had so much room for luggage and golf clubs. The convertibles had just a tiny shelf under the top area, much like the 1969 I also owned. My 94 and then 95 Vettes also had proximity keys and tire pressure monitor system.
asked my trusty Vette mechanic (Mark @ Titus-Will in Olympia, WA, he is amazing, been my mechanic through six Vettes since 2003, did a body off rotisserie rebuild of a C2 for the dealership owner) what is the most difficult series to work on and he replied without reservation the C4 because of the electrical systems which were brand new tech for chevy. Many problems and tough to trace.....
@@C4VETTELT1 I don't think I've ever seen an original euro spec Corvette in my life here in Europe. 99% of them are later imported from US. The thing is, we can import basically anything and it doesn't have to be 25 years old, we can import even brand new cars. Also used cars in US are super cheap compared to most european countries, shipping is expensive though. Still makes sense financially. So yeah, they can be everywhere and they are everywhere.
@Krzysztof_88 they got um! They were definitely sold there! They were sold in tons of places but they didn't get bought up like hotcakes here! So again it's not like here and I know they are most everywhere!! I already said they were sold worldwide basically. Lol but thanks for the comment
Hoovie you of all seem like c4 folk the c4 is literally my favorite I grew up in one and still have the exact car I grew up in! I'm honestly contemplating Monterey next year in my 87!
I made lots of money fixing all of the electrical issues on these cars, still occasionally one comes in nowadays if it's been mostly kept inside. Working under the dash and pretzeling over the rockers is the most fun ever!
I am the proud and current owner of a 95 C4 ... its an awesome car , makes all the right noises when the gas is pushed and its a convertible to boot so who can argue with that !! Daily driven and rarely does it go out without someone honking or chatting at a red light !!
Exactly! Anyone who says these are the worst vettes never drove one, yes an 84 is pretty pathetic but that’s not chevy’s fault it was regulations that forced their hands try driving a 81 or 82 they’re literally garage. My dad has a 96 w/74k it’s such a badass ride ppl are so desensitized these days his car has 300 hp And it’s plenty of power for 3k lbs car and it handles like a rollercoaster
Drove a coupe for 20+ years. Fun car but the interior didn't hold up well; also around 100k miles it lost the tranny and later the rear diff. I like the coupe better because you get more cargo space and can still take the top off (and store in the back!).
I've got a 1996 Ford SVT Cobra with the 4.6 modular 4v, which feels similar. It's amazingly analog, elemental, and mechanical. Smooth is relative, but nothing has as much sound character as American V-8s.
On the C4 coupes, they turned into flexible flyers when you took the roof off. C5’s were better, but C6 is the sweet spot for me. Most comfortable ones made. I had a 1996 C4 LT4. Best engine except for the ZR1 on the C4 line
Hoovie is a lucky dude. Actress/supermodel who really likes him AND is into cool cars that don’t cost huge amounts (well, there is the GNX I guess). Life is good. I’ll wave to you folks at Barrett-Jackson next month.
He's been an actual saint in dozens of previous lives probably. Jackpot. Imagine telling your mates that you're going to buy a boring old farmstead in Kansas and there's a total car nut practicing supermodel that's going to be all over you and your cars.
I wanted to be judgmental when I heard part of the story, but after watching this video, I gotta be honest… I think most people would have left their wife and kids for her. Damn.
I drove a 95 C4 for a long time and I loved it. My only gripe about the car would have been the rubber coating on the face of the dash. That stuff was crap! Fun car MPG was pretty nice loved the Targa top.
Elder millennial here (late 30s)! I would love to have one of these. It doesn't need to be fast, just a comfortable cruiser. Also, metric is the superior measurement.
I remember the last episode of MASH in February, 1983...GM did a big ad buy and used some of the commercial time to introduce the all new '84 Corvette. The early 80s special effects in the commercial seemed to overshadow the car. The C4 was a huge departure from the C3 and I think was a sign the Malaise Era was starting to end, especially with the tuned port injection introduced in 1985.
Only one Callaway C4 Sledgehammer was ever made! Yes that one that made front page of every car magazine and rewrote records with it's incredible 254mph top speed yet it never was sold! Reeves Callaway displayed it in museums and finally sold at auction! Unfortunately we lost Reeves Callaway last year at the age of 76!
C4 prices are correct. I've owned a C4 (one of the best of that generation, a '96 LT4 manual convertible, polo green w/ tan interior), sold it, bought a '14 C7 coupe a year later. The C4 felt like a go kart on steroids. It was fun to drive fast, but sucked to actually drive somewhere. One of the best garage queens I've ever owned with that gorgeous coke bottle shape and the clamshell hood (pure gearhead porn), I could sit in my garage and just stare at it for hours. Starting it up and putting it in gear would put a smile on your face... for about 10 minutes. And then the squeeks, rattles, hard plastic, and generally cheezy interior just got old. The C7 still had the Corvette vibe but was a much, much better *car*... a genuine grand touring car with performance that put the C4 to shame
I'm British and have a soft spot for Corvettes as well. The C4 was my childhood one with stuff like the A-Team. And that digital dash as silly as it is really would really make it for me. But also like Tyler I think the C1 is just so pretty. Restomodded or even EV swapped I would daily that thing.
Got one. It's fast handles well, Got 17k in it, Cant give it away! This is a 96, 300 hp go cart. Very good gas mileage and 160 top end. Going to scrap yard soon.
The nicest part of these is that a lot of them have spent their lives in a garage, had their oil changed on time, and any issues were quickly addressed. Remember that this car cost $30K new while a 1999 Buick Regal could be had for $13k. The people that bought these were aficionados, not just car owners. These cars were babied; washed, waxed, vacuumed, amour-alled, and polished. My 2014 Honda Civic has worn out seats, worn out floor mats, rust spots, and corroded wheels. My 1986 Z51 Corvette has none of that. There are paint chips and the it needs some tuning and new tires, but otherwise it's fine and driveable. And that's another thing: the Z51 variant is the reason to buy one all on it's own. This thing can take a corner at 40 mph without breaking a sweat. The handling alone is sooo worth buying it.
I got a 1996 LT4 6 speed black on black about 6 months ago and I'm in my early 40's. It's a blast to drive and so cheap compared to anything else that can compare. I see the market going up in the future but who knows!
Of all the "normal" C4's (not including Callaways, Grand Sports or ZO6's), the '89 is my personal favorite. L98- less power than the LT1, but no Opti-spark, ZF 6MT available, with the classic interior and dash as well as the pre-refresh exterior. If that 'vert had the ZF, it would be ideal.
My son bought an '89, 6-speed with 66k miles for $7500 in 2019 for his first car. We couldn't find anything as nice for the money. He still has it.

I love C4 Corvettes. They’re Reagan-era USA on wheels.
Of course it is fiberglass. They all are from day 1
The C 4 is a great value for the money, just bought a '92 red on red convertible last year, puts a smile on my face every time i drive it.
Is anyone else thinking Ken and Barbie? Tyler, Ken, and Barbie April you guys look good in that vet.
He's no Ken haha but the money makes up for it.
Hoovie is the Ken doll that got left a little too close to the oven 😂
This was the car in 1984-Mary Lou Retton commercial is iconic
fact: there is 1 1983 Corvette in existence, it was one of the cars swallowed by the sinkhole in the Corvette museum
nope, it was not one of the Corvettes swallowed in the sinkhole. There was an ‘84 Pace Car that was involved but not the ‘83.
Nope.
Great visibility, weather sealed, quiet interior, 300HP, both mine got 25 mpg on long trips ( both were 4 sp auto )
and they had so much room for luggage and golf clubs.
Cannot comment on the performance but this is my favorite looking Corvette. Convertible for cruising 👍
if i was living in America i would buy that bad boy straight away i wouldn't even haggle
You can buy one anywhere
@DR...... it's not like here! They did make the C4s to be sold worldwide basically but that doesn't mean they are everywhere!
@@C4VETTELT1 mostly everywhere. I'm from Europe an I know people from every country here drive Corvettes
April in a C4 Vette is every 60 year old man's dream 😂😂
My dad has a zr1! C4. The vette is a weapon.
I’ll never forget the 1st time seeing that digital dash…it was at night and I was just floored at how cool it looked
I got to say she looks great in that vette. It's definitely her style ❤
C4 is my favourite Corvette. I love the chemistry between Tyler and April.
I made lots of money fixing all of the electrical issues on these cars, still occasionally one comes in nowadays if it's been mostly kept inside. Working under the dash and pretzeling over the rockers is the most fun ever!
I have always wanted to drive one of these. I love April’s garage she is awesome.
These two are perfect for each other
I am the proud and current owner of a 95 C4 ... its an awesome car , makes all the right noises when the gas is pushed and its a convertible to boot so who can argue with that !!
Ok April is full on legit for 2:01. Bravo!
I’d rock that thing wearing my Sketcher slip-ons!
The c4 grand sport is such a great looking car. The dark blue with white stripe. ❤️
Indeed.
I’d love one of these, here in the UK. There are a few about already, but don’t often come up for sale!
Best engine except for the ZR1 on the C4 line
i had a 93 for 22 years and swapped it for a C6. i am in heaven when i drive it
Hoovie is a lucky dude. Actress/supermodel who really likes him AND is into cool cars that don’t cost huge amounts (well, there is the GNX I guess). Life is good. I’ll wave to you folks at Barrett-Jackson next month.
Everyone said the same thing about her many previous boyfriends too. 😅
He's been an actual saint in dozens of previous lives probably. Jackpot.
Imagine telling your mates that you're going to buy a boring old farmstead in Kansas and there's a total car nut practicing supermodel that's going to be all over you and your cars.
He is a Simp. Nothing lucky about that!
She likes his MONEY‼️
@@wstlndiesel Jealous much, fake Cody?
I lv it . I want a 96 the last yr of a C4.
Good seeing a fello broski happy and living his best life 😏👍
C4 is a blast from my teenage years.
I have a fully optioned 89 with the road race package (Z51) and even with only 245 hp it is still quick !
I thought Tyler had a 1991 ZR1 for a minute. Nice video.
I love these reviews :)
My dad has an ‘88 that I could got to drive when I was 16. It’s was beautiful.
The handling alone is sooo worth buying it.
as a 30 year old I love the C4 vette when you corvette the c4 pops in my head
I got a 1996 LT4 6 speed black on black about 6 months ago and I'm in my early 40's. It's a blast to drive and so cheap compared to anything else that can compare. I see the market going up in the future but who knows!
Tyler is the GOAT, April is the GOATEE 😆 that C4 is in nice shape on first appearances.
I bought my first C4 Corvette in 2001 at 21 and own 3 C4's and 1 C3. Sold only the one 87 C4.
Wait there was a car in this video? 🤷🏼♂️🤦♂️ I totally missed it 🥰
Of all the "normal" C4's (not including Callaways, Grand Sports or ZO6's), the '89 is my personal favorite. L98- less power than the LT1, but no Opti-spark, ZF 6MT available, with the classic interior and dash as well as the pre-refresh exterior. If that 'vert had the ZF, it would be ideal.
Great video I love the old school vet and April makes a great couple with the love of car ❤
