@@NightBeyondVeil , that is a fantastic question! TL: DR - don't do a crappy job. Why not? More details are below for you. It's a tricky situation. Thank you for this video. Much appreciated. This opens up so many additional possibilities by adding my phone as an additional camera. Keep making content!
Fantastic !!! Mobile cameras are so much better than regular cheap webcams, unless you have a very expensive 4K webcam most mobile cameras will be light years ahead with much less noise, better low light image quality and so on, and the best is that it's completely free (if you have a mobile phone) and wireless.
Thanks for this upload. I've been wanting to include a 2nd view in my content and this has gotten me that much closer to making that happen. Now I just have to experiment with the delay to make sure it lines up with my main audio. Much appreciated.
thank you for sharing this tutorial, its very clear and easy to follow. i love it . now i can use my phone as my camera using obs. thank u thank uuuuuuu
Is there a way to connect them without lag? I'm going to be using my phone for live streams of me playing drums so it's very crucial for the camera to be spot on with the audio. Love the video tho!
That can admittedly an issue. My hackjob solution was to set up some video delay on my other input. Just about worked. See if that is at all workable for you, too.
It has kinda questionable security because of publicly available token. Just in case of someone wants to have an access to the stream from the phone, it can be done without streamer actually willing to show it in the actual stream (e.g. choosing scene without phone camera). DroidCam is a better option since it uses local network.
The browser uses HTTPS, so it is as secure as expected from a platform like that. However, if security is an issue, use a camera and do it "properly". Thanks for raising it as a point that needs considering though!
Great video. Do you have to get a new URL for the phone camera every time you want to start a new recording/stream in OBS ? Or is the URL just a one time thing?
Just tested this afresh, and it's a new URL each time. Though it is only the code after ?view= that changes... so might be okay to manually change just that?
very cool! thank you for the tutorial, i will be using this for unpacking pokemon cards! i did notice some quality drops but not as bad as walmarts Wifi the true test will be when im live to test it out fully!!! thanks again cheers mate
So good. One thing to keep an eye out for is the audio lag you get from the phone. A workaround I have employed is adding delay to the main audio until it matches my phone (or is at least acceptably close). Let us know how it goes!
@@Waiting2BScene the way I'll have it set up is I'll have my webcam also on during this so do you mean my webcam audio will lag? I was planning on muting the phone audio while doing this so there isn't double audio
@@psycull - nah the other way. Because the phone footage and audio need to get to OBS via the internet, there will be inherent lag compared to your webcam footage. And that is okay, so long as you account for that. I suggest adding delay specifically to the other camera *in your case, your webcam).
This worked and was just what I needed! Any thoughts on how what I need to do to cut out the echo, though? So brand new to this, I feel like I've looked everywhere, but haven't found anything helpful. Thanks so much!
So good to hear! As for the echo, the most likely culprit is having both the browser source audio AND the desktop audio enabled. Mute the desktop, and see if that helps. 👍
This is cool! This basically turns my phone into a wireless camera? I can walk around my house while streaming if I wanted to show off a collection or something?
Yessir. Just play around a little with dialling in your audio settings to make sure you get the most out of the experience, but absolutely. And hey, through it on a gimbal for some smoothness, and that'd look sweet!
Great idea but I tried it out with my Iphone 8 Plus using Safari. It worked no problem but was too laggy to be of any use. I was on my local network with a 50Mbps upload internet speed.
Nice vid, but you have to show the people to open a browser source with the + sign and add the URL. That was the most important peace off the this tutorial 😊
Hey DNT, that's a great question. If you have given your phone browser access to the microphone, when you connect to VDO, what you are sending to OBS should include audio from your microphone. The challenge then becomes syncing between the phone audio and the rest of your OBS setup. If it is crucial, add delay to your main audio to try and get it to synchronise as much as possible. Let us know how you get on with using it! :)
Hi great video it worked. One question you said you copy and pasted the link into OBS. The link was on the iphone how did you get it to the computer.. I had to type mine in OBS. Thanks again
Hey, thanks for tutorial! Question: do I need a wifi connection or I can use iPhone as modem and connect MacBook via modem connection to iPhone? I did all moves as you say but when I click OK, the iPhone view doesn't`t appear. I see black screen and the animation like image is loading. But then nothing.
Unfortunately, Thomas, you have identified the Achilles heel of this solution. The work around I found is to delay the first camera to match the lag of the phone. Hope that helps.
Hi Ines! Thanks for your question. Sure, why not? My personal point of view is this: give it a go, and see if it works. Will be excited to hear what your experience is.
The only thing I can think of here that you might be running into is having both your desktop audio and your browser audio enabled at the same time. You may need to disable the desktop audio (mute it), and see how that goes.
Great question! First time setting it up, I used FB messenger to send myself the link. After that, any time I used a new instance, I'd just manually type the last section of the link (the view part).
When I add the browser source and hit ok, that image doesnt appear like it did for you. that's the only difference i can see as for it not working for me. Is this a known issue?
Hello.. I did everything step by step but all I able to receive to my desktop obs studio was my phone’s microphone. The image is just black. My phone is showing the camera image but doesn’t get the camera image on the computer. Any idea?

Hi Chilly. That's the entire point of the video: it's a browser based sharing of your phone camera that OBS can use. If it's set up correctly, the phone could be anywhere on the planet TBH.
But when I use my phone for my Mac it connects right of way with just a cable then I’m able to disconnect the cable. How come I can’t do that with my PC? Help plz
The OS in Macland is much more integrated than it is in Windows. That's often why third-party developers have had to create innovations like the web-based camera share of VDO to get similar functionality. It's apples and oranges, my man. Both fruit and yet both are incredibly different in so many ways.
Only thing I can think of is that there was like a single digit copied incorrectly. Maybe try to start a new instance in OBS Ninja, then copy the URL into Messenger (or something like that), so you can do a straight copy and paste into OBS.
Sorry to hear that. When you set up in VDO, you can choose your video source. next to that is a cog wheel. maybe if you change the setting to max resolution it might help, but that's all I can think of.
Hi, mate its not allowing me to stream cos of mic and camera not being allowed. Its denied access to my mic. What is the best thing to do? I am so close to streaming.
Sounds like a permissions setting for your browser, as VDO is a browser based application. See if you've previously denied settings to the browser app.
Why why you all give ninja tuttorial.. Make a tutoril for wired connection! Why add extra load on your bandwith and have an extra potential problem during streaming because you lamera stream going around the globe kjsut to return to your PC that is near you? I want a wired connection so that it would be rock solid and reliable and wont add load on my bandwith making whole stream to lag
By having a wired connection, you will invariably be paying extra dollars. I have no argument with you that in the long run, that is the better solution. Though that was not the point of this video. The point of this video is explicitly stated in the title. As you are after a wired connection, you have clicked on the wrong content. I wish you luck with doing a RUclips search that provides you with the answers you were actually hoping to find. And thanks for watching and engaging with my video regardless.
Thanks for the tips. It saves me a lot as OBS cannot read my camera. However, when it shows up in the screen, it's mirroring. Is there any way to switch it again ?
Glad it was helpful. If there's mirroring, I think there's a transform option in OBS to flip the image horizontally. Give that a go, and let me know how it went.
@@Waiting2BScene am having the same issue isn't showing full on the obs studio even after the width and height and also using the transform option, is still not showing full
TBH, that sounds like a phone setting, rather than an issue with either the Ninja or OBS platforms. Take a look at your phone's screensaver mode perhaps? Hope it goes well!
Great question. When you create the browser source, you need to change the width and height settings in there. So if it is a 720p source, make your height 1280 and the width 720... etc. Hope that helps you out.
VDO will send whatever setting you enable it with. In short, yes, it will appear as a full-screen image (rather than a shared browser window) if that is what you meant.
I haven't made a video on that, though i have done this using a phone and a second laptop for testing. Seemed to work okay. It can get a bit laggy depending on the internet connection between everything, though.
If you open an OBS Virtual Camera device in VDO.Ninja BEFORE starting the output in OBS, the OBS virtual camera will default to 1080p 30fps. If you start OBS first, then it will use whatever is set as the Output resolution and framerate in OBS Studio's options, under Settings -> Video. Hope that answers your question.
When you set up the VDO connection, you can choose the audio source, and then tweak some extra advances settings. As for headphones and mics... find the best kit you can afford. People will exuse bad video (to a degree), but they will switch off because of bad audio a lot quicker!
A common problem. Sometimes it is fixed by going into settings, advanced, scroll to bottom, then uncheck enable browser source hardware acceleration in sources.
No promises of course. But it does use an HTTPS connection (same encryptionas your banks for eg), and specifically asks for connection to the camera and microphone. Anything beyond that, maybe give a try it via DuckDuckGo and use a VPN to further secure your connection. Great question though!
Double click the browser source in the sources window. That will open the dialogue box where you need to paste (or manually type) the URL. As for GETTING the URL, I pasted it into Messenger and sent it to myself. Then I used Messenger on the desktop to copy that URL over.
If it is important that you have the audio in the camera be good - then you need to invest in a better microphone for it. Something like the Rode SmartLAV might be the best solution.
What do you mean? As in other people are looking at it while you stream to OBS? Well, strictly speaking - if 'they' happened to break the HTPPS protocol and discover your stream, then I guess someone could watch that wasn't you using OBS. But hey, if you are concerned about being hacked, I'd suggest researching and using a more secure solution. I'd be keen to hear your thoughts on what would work! :)
Get your phone connected into OBS for your next live stream! Today I show how easy it is.
I have a question. If the company you work ask you to use your phone to live-stream their events as excuse to not buy proper equipment. Should you give in? or do a crappy job with a webcam?

How safe is that? I mean how sure are we that the site is not going through anything in our phone aside from the camera?
No promises of course. But it does use an HTTPS connection (same encryptionas your banks for eg), and specifically asks for connection to the camera and microphone. Anything beyond that, maybe give a try it via DuckDuckGo and use a VPN to further secure your connection.
Great question though!
what do i click on to put the link in u just skipped tht part and the link was instanly put in where do i go to out in the link?
Double click the browser source in the sources window. That will open the dialogue box where you need to paste (or manually type) the URL. As for GETTING the URL, I pasted it into Messenger and sent it to myself. Then I used Messenger on the desktop to copy that URL over.
How to improve the audio coming from the camera please?
If it is important that you have the audio in the camera be good - then you need to invest in a better microphone for it. Something like the Rode SmartLAV might be the best solution.
hello, can i put rtmp link of drone to this section "browser"?
Use media source instead of browser, and then input field for where you put the url. It'll take some time to load, though.
Does it mean that people are looking at it?
What do you mean? As in other people are looking at it while you stream to OBS? Well, strictly speaking - if 'they' happened to break the HTPPS protocol and discover your stream, then I guess someone could watch that wasn't you using OBS. But hey, if you are concerned about being hacked, I'd suggest researching and using a more secure solution. I'd be keen to hear your thoughts on what would work! :)
