There was a really weird situation where I added a txt file, did a couple of changes to the plugin, changed the txt file, but the plugin was transitioning to frames from the OLD txt file. Weird transition issues. Honestly, when I shut down OBS and restarted it, it SEEMED to go away. Because I don't specifically know what I did to cause it, and I haven't been able to replicate it, it simply becomes a yellow card for me, not a red card. I'd be cautious though of changing the plugin settings during a production (Which you really shouldn't HAVE to do on a normal day... but sometimes you never know). I've had OBS go 'weird' on me before when messing with background stuff during a production.
Hi Scott -- I revisited this tutorial as it is now of great interest to our streaming ministry. When I visited the download link, the developer indicates that this isn't supported in later versions of OBS> "NOTE: This plugin is not under active development and has not been updated to support OBS 28.0 as I do not have time at the moment." I downloaded anyway -- but received a "DID NOT load this plug-in" message at next OBS startup. Is there an equally good alternative to this plug-in that works in the latest versions of OBS? keep chargin!!

If anyone still searching for settingbup lyrics and scripture easily i would recommend verseview application they got 1/3rd display and remote control and screenshare. I was using that for streaming inour church. And it was way easier u don't have to manually add songs. Their Library itself got many songs and u can add lyrics easily too

My son has lately been putting a full page if scripture next to the pastor and highlighting the specific verse in yellow to which the pastor is referring. I'll have to get him to show you the setup . Look for a recent video on the Algonac Baptist channel.

Download the zip file containing the plugin files. Take a look at the contents of the folders. Shut down OBS, and remove those files from the same OBS folders. Boom problem fixed.

IBN, this is a great question. I'm unaware of the load on the CPU but if I were to guess it should not be that bad. I suggest making a new scene. This will give you freedom to view it independently or embed the scene into other scenes if you wish.

Hey Scott! I am trying to setup a way to have recipe ingredients pop up on the side of the screen. I want to use the same background and other graphics I created but just switch out the text. Thing is, I dont want to necessarily go in order, but rather setup hot keys to pull up whichever recipe I want in real time. I couldn't find a way to do that (other than by using the "dock" and clicking the desired text block on screen. Do you have an idea about how I can achieve this with either this plugin or some other method? Thanks for the great tutorials!
KILLER QUESTION ADAM!!! Fantastic brother.. I just screen grabbed your question and I will make a video for you. In the mean time the solution is the Move Transition plugin. Then you need to right click the scene containing the recipes and selecting "new filters". From there is where you create the hide/show states for each text source. No, I use Camtasia. It's a video editor designed for educators. Yes, I figured out how to make my C922 MUCH BETTER. #1 You must experiment with lighting. For example I have learned that lighting the background helps the camera in a big way. Also there's a program called "Logitech Capture" that allows you to tweak the settings of your camera. Look in to it. I always thought my C922 sucked but know it actually look pretty damn good.
Hey Mr Fichter, I'm struggling here and I know you will help🤗. I followed your instructions on how to install a lower third and that worked just fine, easy peasy👌. Then I came across this video and I wanted to add the text slideshow, I installed it but the installation is only showing the web icon shortcut, no files or folders to refer to. I tried creating a dock for the slides but everytime I open it, it takes me to the website and it shows a website dock. Oh! I don't know what I'm doing here🤪, I'm a beginner and YOU are teaching me🤗. Please tell me where I went wrong if you understand my process here? I also instructed the files to be saved in the plug in but this web shortcut is only shown in the apps folder not where I directed it. I tried to move that shortcut into the obs folder but still🤷♀️. I don't wanna give up learning because I don't think the program is hard, I just don't know what I'm doing 😅. Pls help🙏
This sounds useful but too limited for what I do - so it's probably easier for someone like me to prerecord and then separately generate text overlays. (The main issue is that it doesn't support formatted text - a problem because I use the KJV in my videos and need the italic support.) But then, I'm the exception, not the rule ;p (I'm also one of the rare few who would need the DEB file to install from. xD)
@@ScottFichter KJV's probably exactly what you think it is - the King James Version. I like to keep the italics when I display the verses, so I do actually need something a bit more complicated than this. Still - I can definitely see its usefulness. I use Debian Linux so our programs come in ".deb" files instead of exe, msi or dmg.
Another great video thanks Scott. I love the chapters format and pacing is good. I like being able to speed watch the first time to get the gist then following along live at regular speed.

This tutorial was extremely helpful. I actually applied the “read from text file” option to the built-in OBS text source option and had it read from a TextEdit document on my Mac-Which also can act as a sorta live editor if you for instance are using two lines of text for a lower third, crop the obs object to just those two lines being read from the text document, while keeping upcoming lower thirds below those two “live lines”. You can then highlight, click, hold and then drag(possible a Mac-only feature) or cut and paste the live lines of text further down the text document-(even while they’re hot” on screen because no changes are seen in OBS until you re-save the document), then highlight, click, hold and drag the upcoming lower third into the line 1 and 2 position of the text document, hit save and then your new lower third appears. or is ready to appear when you activate its hot key or Streamdeck button This is also handy if you want to do headline news style banner lower thirds. Another handy tip: Once you’ve set the text boundary box and or cropped for size in OBS and filled both lines to the margins, you can then set the text editor window to size to mimick the boundary of the OBS on-screen text boundary so that you know where in the text document the OBS right margin is. Hope that helps someone. I’ve been deep diving OBS for the past week and Scott’s tips have been a big help. Just trying to give back🙏🏽👍🏽

Thanks for posting this. I just tried it out and noticed that there actually is an option to have it word-wrap. If you scroll all the way to the bottom of the text slideshow properties, there's an option for "Use Custom Text Extents". If you enable that option, 3 new properties will appear below that option: "Width", "Height", and "Wrap". The width and height define the total size of the text area given the current font size (here is where you adjust the height to fit more than one line of text). Then just make sure that "Wrap" is checked. As far as I can tell, it works.

If you use the Move Transition plugin you could place a source that's transparent over text and move it with a hotkey. Look into it.

Hey Scott! I am trying to setup a way to have recipe ingredients pop up on the side of the screen. I want to use the same background and other graphics I created but just switch out the text. Thing is, I dont want to necessarily go in order, but rather setup hot keys to pull up whichever recipe I want in real time. I couldn't find a way to do that (other than by using the "dock" and clicking the desired text block on screen. Do you have an idea about how I can achieve this with either this plugin or some other method? Thanks for the great tutorials!
KILLER QUESTION ADAM!!! Fantastic brother.. I just screen grabbed your question and I will make a video for you. In the mean time the solution is the Move Transition plugin. Then you need to right click the scene containing the recipes and selecting "new filters". From there is where you create the hide/show states for each text source. I downloaded it with OBS closed but when I open OBS back up after installation, it doesn't show as a source or in my docks. Any ideas?
Tons of viewers complain about plugins not showing up after they install them. Man, I'm not sure why this occurs. Consider restarting your computer? Have up updated OBS lately?
@@ScottFichter I will try restarting it. I've heard so many issues with version 27. I'm still on 26 I think.

No, I use Camtasia. It's a video editor designed for educators. Yes, I figured out how to make my C922 MUCH BETTER. #1 You must experiment with lighting. For example I have learned that lighting the background helps the camera in a big way. Also there's a program called "Logitech Capture" that allows you to tweak the settings of your camera. Look in to it. I always thought my C922 sucked but know it actually look pretty damn good.
This plug in no longer works on 28.0 version of OBS. Is there any other plug in that does the same thing?
Hey Mr Fichter, I'm struggling here and I know you will help🤗. I followed your instructions on how to install a lower third and that worked just fine, easy peasy👌. Then I came across this video and I wanted to add the text slideshow, I installed it but the installation is only showing the web icon shortcut, no files or folders to refer to. I tried creating a dock for the slides but everytime I open it, it takes me to the website and it shows a website dock. Oh! I don't know what I'm doing here🤪, I'm a beginner and YOU are teaching me🤗. Please tell me where I went wrong if you understand my process here? I also instructed the files to be saved in the plug in but this web shortcut is only shown in the apps folder not where I directed it. I tried to move that shortcut into the obs folder but still🤷♀️. I don't wanna give up learning because I don't think the program is hard, I just don't know what I'm doing 😅. Pls help🙏
This sounds useful but too limited for what I do - so it's probably easier for someone like me to prerecord and then separately generate text overlays. (The main issue is that it doesn't support formatted text - a problem because I use the KJV in my videos and need the italic support.) But then, I'm the exception, not the rule ;p (I'm also one of the rare few who would need the DEB file to install from. xD)
What's a KJV and what's a DEB file?
@@ScottFichter KJV's probably exactly what you think it is - the King James Version. I like to keep the italics when I display the verses, so I do actually need something a bit more complicated than this. Still - I can definitely see its usefulness.
I use Debian Linux so our programs come in ".deb" files instead of exe, msi or dmg.
Another great video thanks Scott. I love the chapters format and pacing is good. I like being able to speed watch the first time to get the gist then following along live at regular speed.

Hmmm.. you could use a text source with a scroll filter.
This tutorial was extremely helpful. I actually applied the “read from text file” option to the built-in OBS text source option and had it read from a TextEdit document on my Mac-Which also can act as a sorta live editor if you for instance are using two lines of text for a lower third, crop the obs object to just those two lines being read from the text document, while keeping upcoming lower thirds below those two “live lines”.
You can then highlight, click, hold and then drag(possible a Mac-only feature) or cut and paste the live lines of text further down the text document-(even while they’re hot” on screen because no changes are seen in OBS until you re-save the document), then highlight, click, hold and drag the upcoming lower third into the line 1 and 2 position of the text document, hit save and then your new lower third appears. or is ready to appear when you activate its hot key or Streamdeck button
This is also handy if you want to do headline news style banner lower thirds.
Another handy tip: Once you’ve set the text boundary box and or cropped for size in OBS and filled both lines to the margins, you can then set the text editor window to size to mimick the boundary of the OBS on-screen text boundary so that you know where in the text document the OBS right margin is.
Hope that helps someone. I’ve been deep diving OBS for the past week and Scott’s tips have been a big help. Just trying to give back🙏🏽👍🏽
Hi Scott. How about when you need to have lyrics for 2 or 3 songs? Would you recommend that all these songs are to be put in only one .txt file? Or just add two (or 3) more GDI sources for the additon of the songs? Thanks

Thanks for posting this. I just tried it out and noticed that there actually is an option to have it word-wrap. If you scroll all the way to the bottom of the text slideshow properties, there's an option for "Use Custom Text Extents". If you enable that option, 3 new properties will appear below that option: "Width", "Height", and "Wrap". The width and height define the total size of the text area given the current font size (here is where you adjust the height to fit more than one line of text). Then just make sure that "Wrap" is checked. As far as I can tell, it works.

Unfortunately, I could not open the file in windows 11.
It blocks the file and says it is malicious.
