This was a really great tool. Thank you so much for doing this video. I did figure out the what the 10 squares below each section are for. Each lower thirds "instance" (you have 4, right?) contain 10 little squares that when you click on them it lights up with numbers starting with 1 and ending with 10. If you set up a lower third with all the settings and the icon and text you want, click on the first available square. IT SAVES IT AS AN INDIVIDUAL LOWER THIRD. Then, type in the text, icon and settings for your next one and click on the next available square. Continue each time until you fill all the squares. You now have 10 lower thirds that can be triggered with hotkeys. With this method you can have 10 lower thirds per instance, 4 instances, that means...40 LOWER THIRDS!!!!!!! Scott, I really think you should do a video on just this part for everyone. Just a note, if you mess up you just click and hold and the slot and it blinks red. Hold it for about 5 seconds and let go and it deletes that save in that box. Make your changes, click the empty slot and you got another one ready to go. THIS IS HUGE!!!!!

Hey Scott...you set me a digging and I figured out how to use the slots you mention @ 16:70. 1st, turn on Tool Tips under Main Settings / Appearance (it makes the process easier to follow) Each slot (box/number) represents custom text and a custom logo. To use, type in text and select a logo THEN click on a slot to load what you've just typed into the new slot. The way it seems to work is that when you click a box, any text is saved to that location. If you just click 3 boxes, it looks like nothing is happening because it saves the current text 3 times. You can hover over a box to see the content and if you click and hold you can clear a slot. If auto load (refresh icon) is turned on, each time the 3rd goes inactive, the next memory slot will load and it will cycle through. You might use it on the same 3rd that is used consecutively to name different scenes/people. Cheers!
I just set this up litterally took me an hour to complete everything...Very nice and easy flow to the lower third images now...I appreciate the great content!

Hey Scott, thanks for the great video; however, I am having some challenges. The information in the lower third is not animating or showing correctly. Do you have any suggestion on how to fix these issues?
Hi David, What operating system are you using? The code in this tool is all inside the HTML and it is insanely complex. It will require that your system be up to date. You're on Windows 10 right? Is OBS up to date?
So incredibly helpful! Thank you so much, Scott! The time slots have me confused as well. But, I'm going to find out more answers and report back. There's no way to reset them either, it seems. I'm on a Mac, so it might be a little buggy. To fellow live-streamers: definitely back up your work using the json trick if you don't want to start over. But this plugin is so easy to use, you might not mind starting over and getting really good at it. However, it's definitely something you don't want to learn in a panic on shoot day. Give yourself a little time and space to learn it and practice properly since there are little pitfalls you can get into. It really is fantastic, though. Thanks for a great tutorial. It would literally take me hours to design this in After Effects, and it wouldn't be editable.

Thanks my friend. I'm just doing my best to help who I can. Sometimes I screw it up and when I do I admit it. I'm no omni present superstar. It's not how I roll. Best wishes.
Loved the video. Also wanted to share what the ten boxes where for. In each lower third you can have up to 10 thirds so to speak. So to do each one you put the name the you want and then click the square you want to have to that third. At the end there is a cycle button that you turn on to cycle each third.
I can't thank you enough for breaking this down for a dummy like me! So effectively that I think I can get this going without having to call the kids for tech support! Great video! Consider me subscribed
Scott, This was BY FAR the most detailed, easy-to-follow, and useful OBS how-to vid I've seen yet. Alas, everything worked up to the point of creating the first lower-third. When I turned the general setting on, it turned blue, but the individual lower-thirds stay red when I turn them on. Did I miss something? Thanks!
Man Scott, great content! I would love it if I could control the active camera channel on my ATEM Mini _from_ OBS. I’ve looked everywhere but nobody is talking about this! I would love your thoughts on this one.
Your the Best! Thanks again.. and btw.. the small squares are for more lower thirds. In 1 setting or tile select for save hold for delete.. and it transition on diffrent tiles so you can have 10 lower thirds each for 4 groups just figured 😉
@@ScottFichter i wish i could talk to successful youtuber like you just to show what i do and learned with your videos.. and start my own youtbe channel too. 😅😂
Took me a minute but I figured them out also. I use them for baseball live streams. I have have each kids name in a memory slot and slide it out when they come up to bat. Great tutroial.
The squares along the bottom are used for automation. All four lower thirds can be running simultaneously or individual times can be sent within the automation. To avoid overlapping, use the "X" looking symbol to change the placement of the Lower 3rd so they all fit proportionately. All toggles (or however many needed), must be turned on. Set the first lower 3rd to the first Square, and lower 3rd number 2 to the second Square and so on and so forth. You may also place in whatever order you desire. To set time for the automation for each lower 3rd, hit the circular icon for the information option. You can find that icon at the very far right the automation squares. I have also selected all of the icons beside the information icon although I have no clue what they do
You have become my GOTO guy for OBS/RUclips which I am new at. Once you place the lower third in stream and publish to RUclips then you have a nice animation/placeholder for an action in youtube like subscribing. My question is what is the best way to make that action happen in RUclips?
Apologize for the late response. Are you referring to the animated shapes that come into view towards the end of the video? ruclips.net/video/pg_CwgwWmGA/видео.html
Thank you for doing this guide and so many others. I just wanted to let you know that your efforts and sharing your knowledge is very much appreciated.
Hey man, in finding the OBS location, there is an easier way. Tap your windows button, type OBS, right click on the shortcut, then select "open location"
Wow. Great tutorial! I'm gonna give this a try when I get a chance for our church stream! Question: would a stream deck be able to be set up to trigger these hotkeys?
Hello Scott, thank you so much for this content. You taught me how to create lower thirds from scratch! Whoop whoop!! In few hours I was a pro💃🙌🙌. Thank u so much for your easy explanations on your teachings, you are a star🌟. Thumbs up👍👍👍
thanks, please make a video on adding images instead of words when using slots in obs studio, would be amazing if you could do this, keep up the good work
Hey Scott, just wanted to say this is an excellent tutorial and thank you for putting it together. I just thought I'd pass on that the developer came out with a new version (1.6) where they changed how to accomplish some of the things you covered in this video. Besides the folders titles being changed, some fields have been relocated under new tabs. Then I noticed issues with saving images in the logos folder, where I had to run OBS as Administrator. I was able to follow your video and adjust for the changes that were made to get it to work. I figured I would let you know, just in case you wanted to create an updated guide for this feature. Thanks again for your hard work putting these videos together.
An attempt at explaining what the little memory slot buttons are for..... (bit difficult but hope this helps). Each of the 4 channels can hold 10 different configurations for title and info. So, in effect, you have 40 possible wording configurations, 4 channels with 10 wording options. - Type in a title and info on the Lower Third 1 section then click on the memory 1 slot button. - Next type in a new title and info and click on memory 2 slot button..... and so on through the 40 possible memories. The flow of these memories is then controlled automatically by the three icons to the right of the memory buttons, not sure if it cycles with hot keys but you can test this easily enough. Also, worth noting than when a memory slot is highlighted in white it will be the next one to play, if it is grey it will wait for its turn. Quick edit: Not sure what else is stored on a per memory basis, such as logo and formatting, so worth giving that a test as well when you have a play with them.
Hello Scott! Man, you rock! I was just about to ask you if there is anything that would allow rotating lower thirds, because visibility timer does it's work, though it is way too limited... And here you go with this vid! Great job, thanks so much! (Memory slots do the trick just so nicely!)
Yes, thanks Victor. I was unaware of the interest in this tool. It's really starting to spool up now. Thanks for the terrific comment. More is coming my friend.
What an excellent, in depth tutorial with every possible question answered. So much effort and clarity in this video, i know how much extra care you put into all the little bells and whistles. Instant sub, a fine job indeed, good sir!
@@ScottFichter That said, I have been unable to get the LUA to properly register though, it gives me 3 script errors with the file i just downloaded from OBS. It's a new version and has a different directory structure. Can't figure it out. :(
Very nice tutorial, thanks. I've had two issue which was not explained here, simple: -1: Security setting in windows 11 have to be change for all files in common folders(which are named *.css and *.js) of this add-on to all privileges to all users, even if the program itself is set to ''run as admin''. Each file done one at the time, annoying. -2: ALL THE TEXT boxes have to have something written in them for the display box to come up on screen, else it would not work for me.
Hey! Thanks for this video and many of your other movies that helped me a LOT(!!) Undoubtedly the best explanations. Is it possible to install this several times? I want to use different lower thirds on different scenes that are always active and that they start immediately when I change scenes.
Just learning OBS and get most of my info from you. Thank you so much. You tutorials are clear and detailled. I do have one question though. I could not get my dock to dock at the bottom of OBS. I am sure it is just a small ajustment though I have tried several things. Can you help me out here? Thank you so much.
Thanks very much for your assistance in getting this plugin working. It's kinda complex, so it needed a deep dive. However, the other day I got a notification to update OBS and it nuked my lower thirds. If you hear of a fix for this, I'd love to hear about it. In the short term I fixed it by rolling the OBS version back. Once again, thanks for the thought and detail you put into your videos. Very helpful.
@@ScottFichter Hi Scott, I found the answer yesterday. On the lower third source added to a scene, uncheck "local file" and add "file:///" to the front end of the file address. I reinstalled 27.2 and did that and it works.
What I had to do was paste the "Lower-Thirds" folder in the OBS Plugins folder, not the OBS Studio folder. I follow this other tutorial and all is working now.
@@ScottFichter Scott, I followed this other guide which worked. I believe the difference was I put the "Lower Thirds" folder in the 64 bit plugins folder.
Hi Scott! Great video, thank you so much! Do you have a video explaining how you make these tutorials? I plan to record some programming tutorials. Watching you, it just dawned on me: you don't add all these cool transitions and effects while you record, but it seems you first record yourself (simultaneously recording your screen) and then you edit and combine these two, adding video effects, arrows, transitions, audio effects and so on. Could you please share your workflow? What software do you use for video editing? Is it also OBS? Thanks!
Chawki, I'm taking my YT revenue and going to this convention with my boys ruclips.net/video/zZi7DS5xRD/видео.html. Then I'm getting a SM7B mic. Then I'm buying a new Mac. So yes, I will be making Mac videos in the future. I know that's far in the future but it will happen.
Great tutorial, thank you! I did my installation a bit differently because having the Lower Thirds folder under Program Files required administrator privileges. I choose instead to place it in the Documents folder. It might have to do with my IT department's policies...
Hey Scott, I’ve been watching your video until the end because I needed to know how to clear the « memory slots » because I have checked some of them and I wanted to know what they were there for and Bam! You don’t know it either... lolll. Did you finally found out?
Great video. Thank you. Very concise, informative and delivered beautifully. My new 'go to' channel to for all things OBS, even features i didn't realise i needed! How this channel has not yet blown up is a real mystery. Keep up the good work!
really cool video!! !! but how do you add the sounds like a pop or ding when you activate the animated lower third in obs.. i see it on videos every where, but there is nothing that explains it.
@@ScottFichter brother you are INCREDIBLE!!! Thank you for the tip n ur fast response!!! You have no idea how much this will help me!!!! I'm definitely keeping up w u n your channel!!! 💯🔥💪🏾💪🏾
I Had problem from the point of putting script into the Obs folder. I am not computer savvy in the least. You explain things very well. I just can't seem to get beyond making the sub folder actions. Please help.
@@ScottFichter I downloaded the file as you explained. When came the part about storing it in OBS properties I couldn't do it. When I double clicked on OBS it shows pin to start, uninstall, and more which does not lead to properties. I'm stuck because I'm not computer savvy at all. I even bypassed the part where you said it must be stored there and was successful in the rest of the steps- but alas, it won't work because the 3 files aren't stored in OBS. I feel very frustrated...
Scott, I tried to use a different name for a logo so it would be more clear what logo it is about. Guess what, it works, so the name of the logo image does NOT have to be logo_6.png or logo_7.png. It can have any name you want, like Pepsi or Coca-Cola or anything. The logos must however, like you mentioned, reside in the folder where obs-studio is installed and then into \Lower-Thirds\logos\ otherwise they will not be found.
Can’t thank you enough for the detail you serve. Tried fixing my system with all that u gave in here. While all has been done fine am facing issues assigning the mechanism to operate using HOTKEYS. I tried giving the same SHIFT 1 etc keys but refuses to function. Ofcourse when I manually do it from the LOWER THIRDS DOCK it works fine. Could u kindly help me fix this. Cheers
Well done there - you've researched this and presented it so well! More than this the explaining, the walk-through are perfectly paced. Thank you so much Scott.
@@ScottFichter Fast is ok if not preferred so I wouldn't go breaking what works Scott. The tutorials I've seen haven't jumped steps (eg "put this file in the install folder") without showing the process, so speed helps. My tips - do often link back to getting started with OBS and build its/your market; possibly consider whether we should briefly see a sub heading at your chapters eg "installing/understanding/using the lower thirds control panel". Sorry i wrote too much but there are infinity sketchy OBS plugins that need your touch. Best wishes
Great video. I installed it and was playing around learning the functions at my church. Next time I booted up OBS, the dock was missing. Any advice, or do I need to reinstall it again?
Thank you for this video! I've een struggling to understand how edits and stuff like this is done but you've made it simple and shown me how to do these things! Earned my sub!

Jason, thank you so much for you kind words my friend. You make it worth the work let me tell you. I dream of the day of doing this full time. I pray about it actually. When that day comes things are going to get exciting. Wait and see. Thanks again.
Dude! You are da best I am on a Mac so I learned a little from another dude who installed his on a Mac, which is my main computer. He taught me to make an OBS folder that contained the OBS app and lower thirds folder within the application folder of the Mac. You taught me to simply change my logo to a .png format so I did it with Mac preview app and then I took that pic with the .png format and put it into my logos folder, so when I imported into the overlay, voila it worked! Thanks so much as always! ....side edit: It appears I took a lot less steps than you did on my Mac, but either you can do more your way or it's a Mac thing? I'm just starting to play with it.
New to streaming and would like to purchases a good book on the subject to learn the process and as a reference. I have really enjoyed the videos you have put up. Keeo them coming.
Robin, there will be a day when I have a product that you can buy for $20 bucks that would explain it all. Currently the channel is going through an identity overhaul. I'm in talks with Tim Schmoyer. It's exciting as hell because I'm starting to get the big picture.

The way he explains every single detail is just amazing, thank you so much...new happy subscriber
Thanks Sergio. I've noticed that creators do appreciate the detail. I will continue with the detail on future videos.
Yet again. Mind blown. I have been looking for a way to do this. I’m glad I found you on RUclips. YOU DA MAN!
Glad I could help!
Loved the video. Also wanted to share what the ten boxes where for. In each lower third you can have up to 10 thirds so to speak. So to do each one you put the name the you want and then click the square you want to have to that third. At the end there is a cycle button that you turn on to cycle each third.
Much thanks rebel
I can't thank you enough for breaking this down for a dummy like me! So effectively that I think I can get this going without having to call the kids for tech support! Great video! Consider me subscribed
Glad I could help! FYI: There's a second video that explains the memory slots.
OMG you've just made my day even after 2 years since you uploaded this tut. Thanks a bunch!
Excellent pace (not to slow, not too fast), clear instructions and easy to follow. Subbed already
Thanks for the sub!
idk why, but watching
Scott Fichter makes me happy boi
Thanks Not.
Thanks!
Same problem here.
Man Scott, great content! I would love it if I could control the active camera channel on my ATEM Mini _from_ OBS. I’ve looked everywhere but nobody is talking about this! I would love your thoughts on this one.
I downloaded Lower Third 1.6 version on OBS 28.0.2 but it didn't work, applied the fix and it works perfectly, thanks so much Scott!
DOES THIS WORK WITH STREAMLABS? THANK YOU GREAT CONTENTS
I'm not really sure. I'm not a SLOBS channel. I've committed to OBS.
Your the Best! Thanks again.. and btw.. the small squares are for more lower thirds. In 1 setting or tile select for save hold for delete.. and it transition on diffrent tiles so you can have 10 lower thirds each for 4 groups just figured 😉
Memory slots
Thanks for the tip!
I have also selected all of the icons beside the information icon although I have no clue what they do
Thanks S.I.R. Great comment.
You're very welcome!
Hey man, in finding the OBS location, there is an easier way. Tap your windows button, type OBS, right click on the shortcut, then select "open location"
Thx Sean.
VEry Great Explanation ...I have enjoyed your Tutorial Scott ...Great Stuff ...keep it up ...you are a Life saver ...
Glad to help
Thumbs up👍👍👍
Hi Lizzy, you're welcome homie.
Scott has helped me tons. I highly recommend his content.
Thanks homie.
thanks, please make a video on adding images instead of words when using slots in obs studio, would be amazing if you could do this, keep up the good work
Hey Tyler, There's a way to do this but it uses the Move Transition plugin. Check these videos ruclips.net/p/PL8w9LbXQEFthLLZBQLnjo_c-DLEKGEShO
Thanks man. Whew.. much is on my plate. I have much catching up to do. I appreciate the heads up.
@@ScottFichter No worries at all. Life tends to keep us all busy from time to time.
@@xXRavenwolfXx You have no idea Raven.
Excellent info and in-depth presentation, my friend!
Thank you kindly!
U Just gain a subscriber bro.. u re absolutely the best guy... i ll b glad to learn many obs functions from you... thnks alot
Thanks for the sub!
Thanks Jon, I appreciate the detailed post dude. Much thanks.
Thanks Scott! I really liked the animations on our camera source and sliding images. What do you use for that?
This explains it. ruclips.net/video/ZmYDjCgpn8s/видео.html
Great tutorial!!!!!! I have a question.. Could I use this to add music video name of a song + artist on obs for 100 songs?
Hmmmm. I do know there's a plugin that shows the title of songs played. It grabs the available meta info that's tied to the song.
Oh ok! What is the name of that plug-in please?
Hello Scott! Man, you rock! I was just about to ask you if there is anything that would allow rotating lower thirds, because visibility timer does it's work, though it is way too limited... And here you go with this vid! Great job, thanks so much! (Memory slots do the trick just so nicely!)
Yes, thanks Victor. I was unaware of the interest in this tool. It's really starting to spool up now. Thanks for the terrific comment. More is coming my friend.
You explain it so well that I was able to install it on the first try and it worked right away! Big Thanks!
Great to hear David. Keep fighting.
What an excellent, in depth tutorial with every possible question answered. So much effort and clarity in this video, i know how much extra care you put into all the little bells and whistles. Instant sub, a fine job indeed, good sir!
You're very welcome!
@@ScottFichter That said, I have been unable to get the LUA to properly register though, it gives me 3 script errors with the file i just downloaded from OBS. It's a new version and has a different directory structure. Can't figure it out. :(
Great work Scott👌 I was even able to do this perfectly on a Mac!
Outstanding Isaac!
@@ScottFichter Thanks😄
Recently I install this plugin but can't use it. I see now what my problem was. Its works fine now, thanks for your effort.
Awesome!
what was your problem as I have one too and how you fixed it?
Very nice tutorial, thanks.
I've had two issue which was not explained here, simple:
-1: Security setting in windows 11 have to be change for all files in common folders(which are named *.css and *.js) of this add-on to all privileges to all users, even if the program itself is set to ''run as admin''.
I love your videos! Inspiring and your humor is great. So fun to watch a simple tutorial! Great stuff!
Thanks so much! There's more to come.
Just learning OBS and get most of my info from you. Thank you so much. You tutorials are clear and detailled. I do have one question though. I could not get my dock to dock at the bottom of OBS. I am sure it is just a small ajustment though I have tried several things. Can you help me out here? Thank you so much.
hi, just found your channel searching exactly for this type of tutorial. subbed, this was great and very clear.
Awesome, thank you!
so much effort to make this video appreciate this!! HUGE THUMBS!!!
Thanks pal.
Just hang tight everyone and their grandmother is complaining about this issue. I'm sure the developer is working on a update.
I'm doing it now as admin. I think it will work.
Not getting an error while admin, but still does not work.
Mitch, give me some time to dig into this. I just wiped my C drive. I'm rebuilding it right now. OBS was just installed.
Thanks!
Camtasia is the software I use. OBS is not there yet.
This was really really good of course, so adding my thanks. You're a very clear presenter
Glad you enjoyed it!
Man, I like the 90’s/early 2000’s editing of this video. XD

Great tutorial and technique. Will use it on my virtual Windows machine, but PLEASE PLEASE try to see if a Mac version is in the radars...
Yep! They always get in the way of progress.
i really like this video, for the quality but also for the enthusiasm that you communicate. regards from Italy
Thanks Matteo. More is coming.
Thanks Chive. GETSUM
really cool video!! !! but how do you add the sounds like a pop or ding when you activate the animated lower third in obs.. i see it on videos every where, but there is nothing that explains it.
Dj Fab, all you do is setup a sound and assign the same hotkey that controls the lower third to the sound.
@@ScottFichter brother you are INCREDIBLE!!! Thank you for the tip n ur fast response!!! You have no idea how much this will help me!!!! I'm definitely keeping up w u n your channel!!!

I Had problem from the point of putting script into the Obs folder. I am not computer savvy in the least. You explain things very well. I just can't seem to get beyond making the sub folder actions. Please help.
Explain what's got you confused with this part so I can help you.
You are awesome Scott!! Great work!
Thanks Rob, much respect.
This is all fine and exciting. But what about if you are on a Mac???
I do my best to make everybody happy but I can't. Limited time, and money. I don't have a Mac right now and they aint cheap.
you can use the memory slot to assign different design/setup in one lower third
Thank you!
Have a wonderful, happy holidays Scott and the family ♥️. #GETSUM
Thanks Rochelle.
Awesome tutorial, thanks. Subbed. where did you get the icons for the like, sub and RUclips from? Did you make them?
Scott, I tried to use a different name for a logo so it would be more clear what logo it is about.
Guess what, it works, so the name of the logo image does NOT have to be logo_6.png or logo_7.png. It can have any name you want, like Pepsi or Coca-Cola or anything.
The logos must however, like you mentioned, reside in the folder where obs-studio is installed and then into \Lower-Thirds\logos\ otherwise they will not be found.
Excellent Excellent. Thanks for the heads up on the naming convention. I'll pin this message, it's important.
Cheers
What's your operating system?
Windows 10
Thanks much Scott!
Need answer to this too please, have the same problem. Error screen is appearing.
And here I was looking for a pre made green screen version lol great job sir
It's funny how you stumble on stuff in RUclips. I happens to me all the time. Thanks for the comment.

I'd love to see a tutorial on lower thirds for Mac OS!
Noted!
Great video. I watched till the end.
Awesome thank you!
Well done there - you've researched this and presented it so well! More than this the explaining, the walk-through are perfectly paced. Thank you so much Scott.
Glad it was helpful! I appreciate the feedback. Sometimes I go too fast. I will use this video a template for future videos.
Best wishes
@@rgrf Headers at every chapter. Yes my friend this makes great sense. I will do this for sure. THANK YOU.
Great video. I installed it and was playing around learning the functions at my church. Next time I booted up OBS, the dock was missing. Any advice, or do I need to reinstall it again?
Thanks Scott i've learned a lot. keep up the amazing work
Thanks, will do!
hey scott! thanks for that great vid! is intetnet connection required to use the dock? cheers
Excellent question. No, all the code runs locally on your machine.
Thank you for this video! I've een struggling to understand how edits and stuff like this is done but you've made it simple and shown me how to do these things! Earned my sub!
Glad I could help! Thanks for the sub. Thanks for the kind comment.
This is so helpful thank you. Can we change the preset lower third animation with ours?
Wow.. what a huge undertaking. Thank you for going into such awesome detail and keeping it strictly to the useful details! I cant wait to do this for my interview segments on my livestream channel!
Always excellent, Scott! Great work!!
Jason, thank you so much for you kind words my friend. You make it worth the work let me tell you. I dream of the day of doing this full time. I pray about it actually. When that day comes things are going to get exciting. Wait and see. Thanks again.
Great job Scott as always! Planning on trying importing logos tomorrow.
Thanks Scott, another great video, great content....👍
Glad you enjoyed it! Best wishes.
