I'm very impressed with what Asus has done here. At the same time Intel's upcoming lunar lake platform promises to do at 17 watt what AMD's Z1 Extreme takes 30 watts to do as well as reduce idle power draw. I am really looking forward to seeing what these chips can do. The combination of big batteries and upcoming more efficient chips should produce even better results.
Waiting for the 2. I tried the original ally and was a little bugged by the jankiness compared to the steam deck. They’re great devices but these are constantly being updated and I can wait because I’m fortunate enough to have other games to play for the next 12 months lol

This is really a game changer. People just don't realize how much these improvements actually mean. In the portable industry, comfort is always more important than performance, and better ergonomics, 100% longer battery, less heat and higher 1% are really appealing.
It's actually much better than 100% longer battery, despite it being 100% bigger in size. Not sure how that works, but all the in depth testers prove this. If a game lasts 1 hour on ROG Ally, it lasts 2.5-3 hours on the X.
Did they tell you to say that the SD card issue was " quickly fixed"? You really brushed over that quickly. It was not fixed for a lot of people and it was one of the reason i never picked up the ally.
Can you confirm if the extra vent on top of ally x actually helps cooling off the display? On og ally the display getd really warm after 30 mins of use, so asus put the extra vent on ally X to help.
I can confirm from my model it does the og ally ran a bit hotter at 15w abt 55 to 60c where the x for me ran low 50c at 17w. Og ally had thermal pad on heat pipes DIY back plate and bigger air vents.
Getting mine next week and I’m gonna get the ankle 24,000MAH 140W power bank with it, I want it to be portable, not wireless, full power with all day battery, here we come
Digital foundry did a video explaining the extra ram enables it to run next gen games at a concistent fps such as Alan wake 2 and avatar where the original couldn’t, it makes me wonder if it could actually run a game like GTA 6 as the thumbnail suggests. Definitely a bigger update than people realise
For somebody with a visual impairment, I would recommend sticking to windows. Some of the games that I’ve played that I’ve recently become accessible, unfortunately, do not have full capabilities, or at least I have not gotten them to work, on Linux. For example, when I started fiddling around, I noticed that Forza Horizon 5 has its own built-in screen reader, which is to say software that will read things aloud to people who have a hard time seeing them. The issue is that for some reason, the speech isn’t working on the steam deck, and I’m gonna presume that it’s due to a proprietary Windows API that it’s using. They also tweaked the visual novel Katawa Shoujo with accessibility option options as well, but it too, can’t produce the speech output on the steam deck, but it can on Windows and Mac. So at least for now I’m probably going to end up sticking with windows, and this is coming from a steam deck owner. Hopefully Valve will address these things in the future.
You might get better battery life from the Ally X playing PS3 games, you also have the CPU Boost that is necessary (or very helpful) for PS2-3 emulation that would make quite the difference Depending on how much money you can afford, I'd just do a lot of research comparing these two specifically cause the Ally X is REALLY good. If they shipped this at the same price of the OG Ally it would trump every handheld from performance to price point. No doubt Ally x is awesome, but the massive price increase is not justified without a screen and processor upgrade . This cost pretty much the same as legion go in the region I live
I would gladly pay $900 or $950 for this exact model running the upcoming AMD chip, which will have significantly better graphics and efficiency. Then Asus could have pulled an Apple and kept the regular Ally in the lineup, maybe even with a small price reduction. I do love all the updates of the Ally X, but the lack of a substantive performance gain (albeit a minor gain due to faster memory) makes it impossible to justify for all of us owners of a regular Ally.
