Crazy to me that yours is the only lawn RUclips channel I see that takes audio and video production seriously. I've been an audio production guy for a long time, and I can tell that you've done your homework on compression and EQ. I've been a video guy for nearly as long, and I don't know if I've ever seen a shot with blown-out highlights or an off white balance or an unnatural color grade from the channel. Great work, @ryanknorrlawncare.
Nothing wrong with the hat. I use one of those hats with the neck flap. I haven't burned my neck in years, even if I'm outside for 10 hours in the summer.
Great video. Am 61 an for years I paid a company to do the lawn. Until I come across your RUclips channel. I now enjoy doing my yard. An the knowledge that you put out there for everyone is great . My lawn has not been this nice in years thank you Ryan.
The combination of sunjoe verticutting and using your strongORR has helped improve the stand consistency for me. It's also helped a lot with thinning out Poa and letting the KBG fill back in.
Im in the uk ...We levelled our lawn about two seasons ago and reseeded it and ive started putting videos on RUclips been watching your channel for a while now and do find it helpful . when i over seeded my lawn unedited and long tho keep up the good work #Diy lawn care
The landzie does well w sand application. I won’t say it does as well w peat moss as imo it dumps the peat moss way to fast and easily but sand not bad .
As long as it isn't a June KBG lawn reno. Almost 8 months since I redid my lawn with all KBG and I'm still learning to be patient. Grassy weeds all over (which are making me nervous), but mowing it short and regular feedings are really encouraging it to spread. If it wasn't for the thickness and color, I would have burnt it down already. Hopefully the waiting game will end soon..
I wear those type of outdoor / hiking pants for my Lawn Reno company paired w a KBG Green Nike moisture wicking polo. Never would I ever of wore those pants but I’m gonna. E honest there comfy and airy as hell.. Work great for landscape type work .
Man it seem like a lot of needed equipment and work to keep a lawn looking good. Something i have been wanting to do since i bought my home last year and these vids just make me want to more.
Its funny how we concentrate on the great work you are doing at your new property and forget about this house Lol. I loved this video today and what you talked about and done to the lawn. Brilliant job again Ryan. I also noticed (Which happens with me) how other neighbours come out when they see you to attend to their lawns Lol. Keep up the great work on both properties.
Good video Ryan. You can find a beach style hat with a neck flap that protects your neck in the sun for about $15. I use one even though it looks terrible. 👍🏼👍🏼
Try double cutting. I work at a golf course and this is what we do we mow over it one way and then turn around and go right over that same pass. This gets it cut both ways.
Any possibility of a mini series of how you personally apply the lawn care solutions package you offer? I know some of them are listed to not be sprayed within a timeframe of another, maybe a guide video of what you can mix and what you can’t
When you find a good hat, stick with it regardless what people say. I absolutely love my straw hats. They're light, have air flow and give great coverage.
I was thinking about overseeding my PRG with KBG and I still might but it’s good to hear the cons of doing it as well. I have heard that PRG is alleolopathic and can inhibit other grasses when stressed but I personally haven’t seen that yet since I have Bermuda and POA that seems to have no problems establishing in my lawn.
I renovated the side lawn with rye and the neighbors buffalo grass has been creeping over. Not sure what I can even do about that. I just keep cutting low, the blade textures match decently
Ryan you have helped me so much I’m addicted to your channel and podcast. What kind of top soil would you suggest to throw down. Also what’s the best time fall? Northern grass from Indiana.
That machine is an absolute beast and looks fun to use. Id get a couple young neighborhood dudes to shovel all that sand into the hopper. That thing looks like it can hold 1000lbs or more of sand
If I was interested in starting the leveling of my yard, should I spread the sand first then over seed or over seed and wait for the grass to grow then level with sand? Many thanks
You should mow individual 10sq/ft sections while collecting clippings, then analyze the clippings and sort them out based on blade types to determine the ratio of different grasses. Record each 10sq.ft section for the entire yard and then you can re-seed using individual grass types per section to produce the proper overall balance of your entire lawn
First off I am not in any way connected with Allett but watching you changing the cartridge and the time taken I wondered if you had seen how quick it is to change the cartridge on the new Stirling machine ? unfortunately the size of my lawn does not justify the cost but Allett seem to have a very helpful North American representative so maybe contact could be made which may result in a loan machine for a trial period.
You mentioned adding more sand will break down the thatch layer if you have previously used sand on your lawn. How does it do that? I top dressed with mason sand a few years ago and have not repeated it. I have noticed excessive thatch growing above the sand layer and those areas are first to get heat stressed around this time of year. I'm now regretting adding sand to the lawn. I still have about 3/4 of an inch of thatch below the sand layer along with another 1/2 inch up above it. I don't see how adding more sand will help to get rid of it. Can you explain this further?
With PRG you might want to overseed in the spring and fall. It doesn’t spread. It clumps. You’d want to overseed with a spreading grass to get a thicker, self-repairing thatch layer. Bermuda for warm, dry climates, or KBG for temperate.
Love to see this kinda stuff! If I may suggest something to potentially help you out it would be looking into purchasing a coco-fiber drag mat. It will do the same thing the level lawn is doing but with much less effort. We use them on the greens tees approaches etc.
Is doing this going to mess up the preemergent application right before crabgrass season? I'm afraid to hand rake after I put down prodiamine. Am I being too cautious?
Hi. My name is Brian. I've been a X-ray tech who learned about radiation, and ended up with a Doctorate in Nursing later on. The short version is sunscreen doesn't keep your from getting skin cancer. Sometimes it is actually worse. Short answer is cover up and physically block all the solar radiation that you can. Melanoma is no joke. Already lost my dad at 72 and my sister at 44 from skin cancer.
A demo with a golf ball rolling on top of the lawn after you’ve use your real cutter would give us some idea of just how smooth and low you’ve cut the grass. I follow you love what you do but I’ve moved from my 5 acres to a two bedroom apartment. At my age I love watching you rather than doing it myself.
So is there not a way to make the a powered front roller and spin opposite direction with small tines for grooming the blade of grass up and you can get a cleaner cut?
I have a question about that top dresser. If it covers everything evenly then how does it put more in the low spots without leveling? I really want to use one of those this fall for top soil but not sure is what I need as I have some pretty low spots.
Hello Ryan! I appreciate the video. I just got sod put in last year and they put it in incorrectly so it has mini hills in the grass resulting in unintended scalping of the grass. What can I do to flatten that out?
Ahhhhh Fellow central Iowan! Quick question for you! In suburbia around here they scrap off all the soil and leave us with clay. Have you had trouble getting that corrected?
I'll never achieve the god-tier lawn maintenance that you do, but I appreciate your videos for the little tidbits of knowledge. Also, how do you handle looking at your neighbor's lawn? 😂
I'm really interested in the idea of a reel mower but a question comes to mind. Can i cut higher with it to avoid scalping a lawn which isn't perfectly level or will it only be usable on leveled low cut lawns?
@Blake‘s Garage if the bumps aren’t too bad you can use a reel mower and mow higher but I would recommend levelling your lawn first because then the cut is going to look way more even.
Hi Ryan, have you ever tried a brush attachment on the front of the mower to help raise the grass blades prior to cutting? I've seen this on certain Allett brand reel mowers, but I have no idea if it actually helps.
I hit mine with the scarifier today. It’s looks so nice after that and a fresh cut. Throwing down some VigORR and GreenORR. My VigORR is a 8-16-12 ratio. Is the 8-18-18 a new blend? Your fert line shows some amazing results.

I have a degree in music production 😀 - I appreciate you noticing
Nothing wrong with the hat. I use one of those hats with the neck flap. I haven't burned my neck in years, even if I'm outside for 10 hours in the summer.
As a landscaper the neck flap is a must.
Same, I have that exact hat I use when I'm out working in the yard all day. Also makes for a great kayaking and hiking hat.
Yeah but your screen name is PearlJamaholic
@@watermelontreeofknowledge8682 not sure what that has to do with a hat???
This has convinced me to stop worrying about my lawn. This is a path I do not want to tread.
😂😂
I love his dedication .... But this is nuts.
I was going to rent one of those this year. Thought I’d save the money and skip it, but after seeing this… I wish I did rent it! Game changer!

What a machine! Wish I knew about that a few years ago when I renovated my lawn
I seeded the same time as you and about the same ratio and I am now seeing this issue as well.
Good watch. I’m considering a full renovation to change my grass type from Fescue to Bluegrass. This video had some really good tips. Thanks Ryan.
Rock that hat! It doesn't look bad and it's better than end stage melanoma later in life. I see it all the time.
The footage of sand swath was cool!
I did a hot summer scarify in mid July last year. South west British Columbia with perennial ryegrass. Came back within a week.
Im in the uk ...We levelled our lawn about two seasons ago and reseeded it and ive started putting videos on RUclips been watching your channel for a while now and do find it helpful . when i over seeded my lawn unedited and long tho keep up the good work #Diy lawn care

Thanks Ryan! Always love your way of providing advice in a friendly manner. Really cool slow-mo and reverse camera work too!
What lawn equipment are you using? It looks pretty deluxe, would definitely be interested in those machines myself.
I’ve been wearing a sun hat for years. You don’t understand how much it helps until you wear it.
I did a June renovation last year and had good results.
As long as it isn't a June KBG lawn reno. Almost 8 months since I redid my lawn with all KBG and I'm still learning to be patient. I bought the same hat this year and your lawn leveler. I wish I was your next door neighbor. So many questions.
Hey Ryan can't you use that broom cartiage to sweep it down raise the height and remove the excess
Its what Connor always has to do verticutting cause that blue gets so thick water and fert have trouble getting down into the soil
I do this all the time but that hasn't changed anything in my situation
wow so ive never mowed a lawn that short but im in NY so not sure if i should be. Damn that is a thick carpet of grass.
decided to try some thing, cut the front at 2 1/2 and the back at 3 1/2 with my new Honda, see what looks best after 30 days
That Ecolawn spreader is amazing. Can’t find them to rent around Cedar Rapids either.
Good one Ryan.......ENJOY the Keystone Light!!!!!! Looks refreshing!!!!!!!!!
Been renovating since may 1. Started with 75% weed. 500$ of weed be gone plus seed and topsoil I’m 75% grass. Reel mower changed the game.
Any possibility of a mini series of how you personally apply the lawn care solutions package you offer? I know some of them are listed to not be sprayed within a timeframe of another, maybe a guide video of what you can mix and what you can’t
Keystone light needs to sponsor you after that ending. I haven't had one of those for years and now I am tempted to go get some.
I don’t know what I would do with such a short growing season. I start cutting in late February and finish cutting sometimes after thanksgiving
When you find a good hat, stick with it regardless what people say. I absolutely love my straw hats. They're light, have air flow and give great coverage.
I was thinking about overseeding my PRG with KBG and I still might but it’s good to hear the cons of doing it as well. Props on the hat! Function over aesthetics all day!
Ryan you have helped me so much I’m addicted to your channel and podcast. What kind of top soil would you suggest to throw down. Also what’s the best time fall? Northern grass from Indiana.
Can you get groomers for your reel mower? We use them on greens mowers at the golf course and takes those sideways growing strands out of the equation
Unfortunately no which is why eventually I'll change mowers
Ambitious renovation, especially with 90-100 degree temps coming this week. Anxiously awaiting a follow-up...😬
Just posted today
Wait. How does leveling with sand build organic matter in the sand layer? Root cycling?
I’m a hat wearing fool too brother. Our friends from south of the boarder wear them for a reason so anytime I’m down in Mexico I buy one.
That machine is an absolute beast and looks fun to use. Id get a couple young neighborhood dudes to shovel all that sand into the hopper. That thing looks like it can hold 1000lbs or more of sand
A lot of mixed opinions on the Swardman... What is your opinion on them. I'm certainly looking at them for their "cartridge" style system.
Sand flinging should be an Olympic sport.
If I was interested in starting the leveling of my yard, should I spread the sand first then over seed or over seed and wait for the grass to grow then level with sand? Many thanks
I have that exact same truck in SW long bed. Added the Carli 2.5 level with some grabbers. I'll sub just for that.
You know something is up when the RAM shows up with a trailer behind it!!!!!
There's nothing ridiculous about sun safety Ryan! Looking good.
I have been looking for one of those sand spreaders in the Indianapolis area for years 😢
The hat looks much better than skin cancer. Keep it on. Here in South Africa it's almost the norm.
Isn’t this where verticutting is what you should be doing? To lift those grasses and get an even cut.
Swordsman slow motion rewind intro was awesome!
Questions:
Do you use the scarifyer every year?
Can you use weed and feed after using a soil loosener/liquid aerator?
Excellent video and lots of info to digest, love the new product and music and the end was deja voo refreshing 😀
Changing a cartridge on an Allett mower seems like 10x easier then on the Swardman
Man here in Texas we’ve had like 5 days in a row of 100+F weather.
The hat needs to be a staple for all upcoming videos. looks fine.
What a performance to change the cartridge, you should try a Allett mower.
Im looking everywhere in my area. (Middle TN) to rent a top dressing spreader and not having any luck.
Morning man long time no talk.. how you been here in SoCal there putting water restrictions so water is getting brown what should I do
First Aussie 😁 Ryan, down on the Lawn Ranch with the new hat. 🤠
You mentioned adding more sand will break down the thatch layer if you have previously used sand on your lawn. How does it do that? I'm going with a 95% tttf and 5% kbg for my fall overseed. I can't wait to see how it dose.
Fescue will outperform the KBG. You'll never see the KBG
@@mgriffin12 If so I'm totally fine with it
@@johnnelwhite it'll still look great! I've tried mixing KBG with fescue and fescue is just too much for it
You can do anything Ryan
Hat I use = Tilley LTM8. Beer = Grain Belt Premium (c'mon, Ryan! Gotta represent the home state!)
LOL, thank you Ryan, great video as always!
Even though I overseed every year, I cant seem to get my turf that thick. Any suggestions? Primarily PRG mowed at 1.25".
With PRG you might want to overseed in the spring and fall. It doesn’t spread. It clumps. You’d want to overseed with a spreading grass to get a thicker, self-repairing thatch layer. Bermuda for warm, dry climates, or KBG for temperate.
i was always wondering why 2 reels? a gas powered and an electric what´s the reason behind it?
He’s endorsed or sponsored with shwardman. They send him stuff for free to use. So why not right?
Bc boys and their toys lol
I bet every cat in the neighborhood likes to poop in your sandbox. Looks great but it’s more time than I am willing to part with
lol love your neighbours truck, I see he's one of "those" guys
Love to see this kinda stuff! If I may suggest something to potentially help you out it would be looking into purchasing a coco-fiber drag mat. It will do the same thing the level lawn is doing but with much less effort. We use them on the greens tees approaches etc.
It looks like the lawn from a British royal castle lol
Is doing this going to mess up the preemergent application right before crabgrass season? I'm afraid to hand rake after I put down prodiamine. Am I being too cautious?
Hey there Ryan, you get all the cool toys!! Are you the new rental spot for the spreader? I need to make a reservation?! Where is your Plumcrzy Mopar?
How would you suggest the best way to level a lawn (3500 SF) with a slight grade and fairly uneven?
Brother I get it. Gettin sunburnt while mowing/yardwork is the worst. I been using sunscreen AND a big ass hat lol
Verticut will help a lot.
What sunglasses are those? Like the mirror lenses!!

Not on this machine so far
I have a question about that top dresser. If it covers everything evenly then how does it put more in the low spots without leveling? I really want to use one of those this fall for top soil but not sure is what I need as I have some pretty low spots.
You would either have to put it on heavy and then drag into low spots or target some lower spots by hand
Poor drainage after rain, drys out to much when we get hot, doesn't matter how much water I put on it during the summer.
I'll never achieve the god-tier lawn maintenance that you do, but I appreciate your videos for the little tidbits of knowledge. Also, how do you handle looking at your neighbor's lawn? 😂
I would be pissed my if neighbors lawn looked as good as his becuase it would make my look like sh*t !!
I was wondering the same thing.
You love looking at a neighbors "shitty" lawn because the joy of domination
Keystone Light...
J/K love the videos!
Since you're rolling right back over it with the rear roller I haven't seen that it made much of a difference.
I love your content. On a side note your street is very beautiful. What city/township do you live in?
Isn't this the whole purpose of mowing North-South then East-West (or Visa-Versa)?
Doesn't work like that
Sweet spreader!!! 👍🏼
God i wish they were places around me that rents that equipment.
