Vulcan, now there's a nickname I'm quite fond of. It's what I named my Typhlosion back when I first played the original Silver on GBC, and likewise again in the Soul Silver. I've also run a Thor in those games, although it was an Ampharos instead.
My legendary beasts were named for the recurrent trio of Final Fantasy summons, Ifrit, Ramuh, and Shiva.

What an epic race that was. I wasn't sure on who to bet,but I knew that Suicune could be the winner because of its typing and bulk. But in solo runs that's not the most important thing, speed and great offensive stat with a set up move can sure produce a lot of good results.🤔
But at least I had the chance to see Entei try out it's best. Entei is my favorite out of the three ever since I watched the 3th pokemon movie at home as a kid. 😊
Even though all there had to result to use hidden power ,and substitute they all had thier fair share of struggle in some certain of their respective runs. Raikou was having a slow run in the early game due to Brock ,while Suicune had rough mid game ,while Entei was struggling with the rest.
I can't thank you enough for the treat.😁

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  11 месяцев назад +2

It's such a hard thing to predict sometimes! I thought for sure Suicune had this, but playing them it turns out that Raikou's stats really make a different. Plus, Thunderbolt was so darn strong ALL the time :P
Poor Entei struggled all game long in that first run. The second run definitely felt like redemption for it. Entei is the one that looks the most huggable to me :P
      It's my pleasure! Thanks :)

    • @bateltheassistant
      @bateltheassistant 11 месяцев назад +1

@@Eggsceptional Same here. I thought that the water typing and Suicune's defensive bulk will be enough to carry it out throughout the run. I guess that I was comparing Firered to pokemon yellow too much 😄. In gen 1 usually fire and electric types are having a hard time. But I guess the Raikou was reminding us that having great stats and having hp with a type that fits the pokemon, can in fact make the difference sometimes.
And I can't argue with that, Entei seems to be fluffier than the other two.☺️

    • @Eggsceptional

@@bateltheassistant I felt the same way initially! The Water type is just so good, and Suicune was 100% the most solid feeling to play. I kept complaining about the Fire type, but you're right Electric suffers a lot too. Raikou was just too strong :P

i didnt pay 100% attention, but was sub against heracross the right choice for entei?
i probably missremember some mechanic here, isnt it that the sub breaks after it receives as much damage as the pokemon lost to use it? so instead of wastin time on it, you could calm mind to power up, no? or has the sub more health than what you use to set it up?

Rock Tomb was a range to knock out the decoy. So sometimes it would break, sometimes it wouldn't. I needed my speed intact for the rest of the battle so it ended up being a "cross your fingers and hope" type of situation. Awesome run with the legendary doggos. lets do some recap and maybe feedback after looking through both run 1 n 2.
Raikou: I am not sure why the rival picked charmander instead of bulbasaur line. I have a feeling the grass starter will be much harder for raikou for the earlygame just due to rival 2. Also, with this change, likely u will lean towards HP Ice more.
Suicune: No comment. It will likely be the way I would play. :)
Entei: Glad u discovered the sunny day strategy to power up your stab for Koga, for Entei HP-wise, I personally think there is only 3 contending HP, Ice/Grass and electric. All have their merits and demerits so there is no true answer to this, I could see HP electric being useful but it will make giovanni 3 a lot harder, so likely HP grass is the best option if talking just rival-wise, Lance-2 will be annoying but from your video it seems to work well enough for a competitive time. Also if u need a early solarbeam in the future for run 1 without HP grass or u just want to get Blaine done early, do remember once u get koga's badge, u can actually surf down by grabbing Eevee in Celadon and use a water stone to get a Vaporeon to go down early, just that 2.1k $$ for the water stone will need to be factored in.
Last but not least, going with the trend of a little more unconventional playthrough, is it possible to see a run of yours doing a FR/LG minimum battles challenge with the R2 E4 in mind? Will like to see what your approach would be given the limited resources u will have for the entire game.

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  11 месяцев назад +2

Raikou: I thought about it a bit and didn't feel that the Bulbasaur line would have made a significant impact on the run overall. HP Water would still have been my choice as Venusaur is less threatening than Exeggcutor was in the league :P Early game though you are correct! Some back Sleep Powder resets would have likely been inevitable.
Suicune: Thank you :) This one felt the most intuitive.
Entei: Ooph, the troublesome one. Thank you for the suggestion with Eevee! That has never occured to me before that's brilliant! That'll broaden my strategy so I can face Blaine early more comfortably in every future run. That's so great :D
Hmmm a minimum battles run in FR would be a tough one. I don't think I'd do that one for any kind of competitive time, or even optimize because I'd have to save in front of every spinner. It'd be a fun idea to eggsplore for sure! Thank you for all of your input!! Cheers :)

Hey eggsceptional, let me tell you, elite four r2 really poses a threat even to legendaries! But I had bet Suicune would be the winner with the final improvements, that got me! Raikou being the winner really was a surprise... But let me tell you what I think. The legendary beasts learnsets, aside from TMS or HMS, aren't really that good. They should learn something really powerfull, exclusive to them. In my opinion there will never be a pokemon which would be a match for Kyogre or Groudon. Kyogre simply wrecked FireRed! By the way have you already done Lugia vs ho-oh? These two would be really good I guess. This race really fun! Thank you eggsceptional! Eggsceptional as always! You too take care!

No kidding the R2 league is tough! I felt the same way initially, that Suicune would win. Raikou just did better today. I feel like with Hidden Power evening things out the runs would likely bounce around each other with completion times. In later gens the beasts get way more coverage! I don't know about Kyogre not being beaten though... Today's video might have something to say about that ;) I did look at Lugia VS Ho-oh. It'll be awful! Neither learn an attacking move until level 22 :) I appreciate it. Thank you!

That was an intense race and I loved every second of it! I had a feeling Raikou would win in the 2nd run with Hidden Power coverage though I figured it would be HP Ice but that's just my online battle mind talking, HP water was definitely the better option, ngl I was kinda expecting Entei to run a physical set with Return, HP Rock, Flamethrower for coverage/hitting lower Sp.def Pokémon and maybe Rest or Sub but I guess without a way to setup it would've been dang near impossible.
My favorite of the 3 beasts is Raikou mostly because my brother used Suicune a lot and my sister used Entei but also because it was the first of the 3 I caught in GSC and electric types are my 2nd favorite type in the series.
Also whenever you face the Round 2 Venusaur champion team it always feels like you're battling me because 5 of those Pokémon are ones I use quite often in my runs (swap out Ttar for Nidoking and it's basically my LeafGreen team as a kid)

I'm not sure about how impossible Entei would have been if I'd geared him more physically. In the interest of speed though I felt that SpA and Calm Mind were the answer. I maybe could have tested more extensively with HP Rock that's for sure. 115 base Atk is solid by itself.
I absolutely love Raikou. It has such a killer design! That's a really cool thing with your childhood team. Does it bring you back at all seeing me battle him every week? That double Intimidate is so nasty!

I know my sister used a lot of status and defensive moves but she didn't battle as much as we did, she preferred to complete the pokedex and do all the side content in the games like contests.
as with Entei and it's gen 3 moveset I think you made the right call with sub and calm mind. That might as also be the play to go with in HGSS since I don't see much improvement with it's physical movepool outside of the event Entei who got Flare Blitz, Howl, and Extremespeed

eggcellent, truly eggcellent and a most interesting run. I enjoyed it immensely. I see what you meant when you said the Venonat line caused you trouble, I almost couldn't believe that. I'd maintain that Muk caused you the most problems for all 3 of them.
ok the 1st run.more than a little rough in places especially the league, your moveset limitations seemed to be the biggest issue for all 3 of them but especially Entei and not just that, its stats are not kind as is the case with a few fire types. did you for either of the runs consider leaning into the physical side for it. I know the prospect to boost with calm mind and have STAB flamethrower is most attractive to you, but surely a decent physical set would of done it some good especially with better access to Attack EV's opposed special attack EV's would help make up for this lack of boost and already higher attacking stat. I am surprised the closeness of raikou and suicine, I would of thought raikou would of suffered much more in this run, fire red is not kind to electric types after all, but I guess thats the power of bite and crunch for coverage.
as for the 2nd I have great interesting in your choice of HP more than anything as for the 2nd run you had clearly worked out most of what you needed to in order to streamline the run and improve the performance of all 3, even entei, but again the moveset is the issue and HP seemed to solve a lot of that plus sub strats of course. water made sense for raikou as much as electric made sense suicune. the 2 types compliment each other, a combo of ice, electric and water is very handy for any run. I am surprised you didn't go with some rain dance strats with thunder and HP water for raikou, it would of hit good and hard and just as importantly accurate, but I guess its a moveslot taken and you need to keep calm mind and sub. entei was interesting to see, grass is handy but only to a certain point, ice or electric might of been better but considering how well your 2nd run and R2 went, its hard to be certain of that. a touch of testing maybe. do you ever use save states and altering your IV's for HP to test for particularly tricky or experimental runs?
overall I am very impressed with all three of them, I would of though the lack of defensive stats for 2 of them and lack of attack for the other would of held them all back a little, legendaries like these are good, but not great after all, but they have done superbly. I'm inclined to say, and this a prediction for the future run on your list, that the Gen 1 Eeveelutions will perform in a very similar way as the beasts are very much upgrades on the Eeveelutions, flareon, my boi sadly in last and a close match between jolteon and vaporeon. I base this on the evaluations of False Swipe Gaming on the beasts and the eeveelutions and think it will go that way.
some good news, I have cleared the gyms with Parasect with no additional resets, I got lucky, a got roared by Blaine, this reset the attack drop from intimidate so I could get the KO on the Arcaine which I somehow outsped. it is level 80 now and I fear the league might be ok, but the R2 may be unpleasant

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  11 месяцев назад +1

It's true, of the Poison types Muk was the MOST troublesome. But that Venonat... I did consider leaning into the physical side more with Entei but I was so worried about the Intimidate from Gyarados hurting the damage output too much. I suppose I could have tested it a little more extensively. Set up is just so effective, but yeah it's not always fastest. The closeness of all three in this race, the way they bounced around in the first playthroughs. I loved watching this one come together.
Water and Electric do compliment each other beautifully, and yeah generally mixed with Ice is pretty much perfection for this game. I actually played Raikou (I'm pretty sure) and the problems that I had with Entei's set up of Sunny Day, and just Entei in general I think really discouraged me from anything that was remotely similar. I had thought about Thunder/Rain Dance, but Reflect was so valuable. With PKHeX I have the ability to just cheat around so I don't use any save states while running. I test using a save file in front of R1 and in front of R2 because it's so easy to just swap out the Pokémon, and boom ready to go. I have the inventory stacked with items too for convenience.
I'm not sure when I'll get to the Eeveelutions but I'm very excited for them. I haven't looked at them extensively but I'm hoping they have a LITTLE bit more coverage, at least in egg move options. Anything more than 2 types.
The Roar from Blaine can be such a pain! That's awesome to hear that your Parasect is having so much success. I can't remember how my Paras run went exactly I may have blocked it out. But level 80 for Round 1 sounds appropriate. R2 is disgusting :P
That's a pretty wild base defense but I totally forgot about how heavy the Regis are and how much that Mankey is actually going to hurt because we'll be like.. level 16? Either way, with my production process slowly getting more streamlined I'm hoping I can bring more VS videos, especially more 3ways than once every 5-6 months.
I feel like the any similar run like that - Steelix, Aggron, Golem, Rhydon. Any of them with low speeds and common weaknesses will have a guaranteed number of hail mary moments that need to be routed in. Quick Claws/Iron Tail hits or die.
I really don't like the idea of random IVs because it's harder to extract meaning from the results for the second playthrough. The Parasect hatred is all in good fun I hope you know :P Yeah there were a few coins added to the swear jar on that last one. I was all fired up by the end of the stream! That's a fair point too about all having a lot to learn. That shortcut in Koga's gym absolutely rocked my world for example. I love learning new things!
A few people have requested old VS pairs going through as doubles pairs but that kind of sparked another idea in me. If, after a little while of course, we can dial in the format I'd love running Scyther/Pinsir VS Scizor/Heracross and expand the VS format as well. Those would be a lot of fun, but a huge amount of effort I feel. Probably the same amount as a solo 3way VS? Eh. I don't know.
Below level 80 is pretty respectable for sure! That's including Round 2? I'm pretty impressed by Venomoth. And yes, see above for Parasect praise. I'm all caught up on it again!

@@Eggsceptional the mono poison types (and quite a few of the others for that matter) can be rough to run, but are always oddly rough opponents, Muk is a special pain, I think many forget that it special defense and HP are massive and can boost with acid armor and add in minimize and you got a problem, straight in with a round move is the best way with it. ah yes the intimidating water onix, always a problem, the fact that Lance leads with it is the most trolly thing in all of Gen 3, an instant attack drop with no choice in the matter (except a select few you'll love running of course). testing is always a good plan for runs, although you got to have time for it and I think its save to say you've been busy recently. and yes the closeness of the 3 at the end of the 2nd run was a big surprise, I though entie would be a lot further behind, but you did good with it and all of them.
I think Entei and Raikou had the most issues with set up, for all the speed and power they both have, they are very frail especially compared to suicune, reflect was a good call overall, I think entei should of had it as well, rock and ground are the bane of it after all. calm mind is good for special, but what good is that when the physical is like a sheet of glass. did you consider looking into having a nature for plus defense for either of them, suicune is few enough as its pure special attack and bulky already, but the others need of a little bulk make it worth trying.
I love the Eeveelutions, in fire red they run in very interesting ways. Vaporeon is like suicune junior and almost identical moveset except no bubblebeam or calm mind, but acid armor is good. Jolteon is fast but frail as you can imagine but has the best coverage as it gets double kick and pin missile (better than nothing I assure you) although I don't think it needs agility on its moveset base 130 is enough. flareon is the odd one, its base 130 attack means shadow ball, dig, iron tail, all the normal moves, are gonna hit hard and base 90 special attack isn't bad for flamethrower. I can't comment on espeon and umbreon as I have never owned one in Gen 3. I don't need to guess you egg moves for all of them as curse is an option and we both know you love your set up, flareon and jolteon might make best use of it because of the movepools and stat spreads.
you might need to take some optional battles for the sake of bulk with all of them for the sake of that mankey alone, regirock might not need it as much, registeel has base 150 for defense and special defense so might be ok but I wouldn't risk it, but regice will need the bulk most, all 3 get curse so boosting its defense is an option at least. I guess they are a long way off and you have time to think them through a little.
the big rock and steels all are rather similar in terms of stats, movesets and weaknesses and will run in a similar manner. I believe Golem might get the win though, despite the dual water and grass weaknesses, it is a reliable runner. it always feels a touch faster than the others and I think i has the better special defense, add in STAB rollout and earthquake is monstrous for any run, add in defense curl and brick break and you got a rock monster. Steelix I think would a close 2nd, it has less crippling weaknesses and a rather good moveset and STAB and I believe if you do a VS it has access to curse, I need to look into that though. Aggron and rhydon is harder to call, appropriate as they are thematically similar, but both will suffer in similar ways.
you may hate Parasect a little more after I tell you my results with it. but I know its all good fun. and fair enough with the random IV's, they might be awful or perfect, thats the nature of the game, but would yield some weird results and some strange HP options of course. I like little things like that with Kogas gym, I wonder how many more there might be? I rarely need to use it though, with gyms, I take on all trainers in there, once the gym leader is beat, you can't battle them and that is wasted experience, the levels might be needed later.
an interesting prospect and I think worth looking into, I am glad its bot just me thinking of the old VS remade into doubles and I see my love of the bugs is rubbing off on you, those big bugs will be very interesting to see run like that, but that is a big big ask to do all 4 of them as a VS in doubles, I'd say more work than the 3 way VS.
the Venomoth got through the R1 at 75-78, I use a rare candy or 2 for damage rounding against Lance and the champion of course, but the R2 was 83-85, a little lower than the butterfrees, but still the overall winner, I still would of loved dream eater or even shadow ball for it.
I have finished Parasect, R1 was smooth, Lorelei and Bruno were fine, but Agatha and Lance were harder and caused a few resets, but we eggspected that. the champion caused half a dozen but thats because of Arcanine, its flamethrowers KO'd everytime. I did this at 85-88 with a moveset of giga drain, dig, HP rock (power between 65 and 70) and aerial ace. R2 was a lot harder as you can imagine, a few resets on Lorelei because of ice beams and sleep ending too soon. I had switched to pure physical for R2 and had spore and SD with Aerial Ace and I rotated dig and HP rock depending on the opponent. no need to talk about Bruno no no. Agatha was an evil witch, the whole team out speeds and status ruined Parasect so many times, confusion with full attack set up is evil. most of my resets in the R2 are because of her, I relied on a lum berry and sleep lasting long enough for set up there. Lance wasn't as bad as you'd think, Parasect, thanks to how the EV's of fire red spread and some decent IV's as a massive defense and tanked aerial aces and wing attacks from the dragonites and aerodactyl, very handy, but it fell a few times to flamethrowers again, it has almost no special defense and even neutral or non STAB special attacks can KO. again more resets here but not as many as Agatha. now you're not going to believe this, but I got no resets on the champion. I somehow speed tied the heracross, got it to speed and set up completely and KO'd it and the tyranitar, blastoise came next and set up rain dance so sandstorm was gone and Arcanines overheat was weakened in the rain (but still missed) alakazam just tried to set up calm mind and the final egg fell to aerial ace. I did it with maybe 50 resets overall and level 95-98 (leveled up to 99 on the last Pokemon) I shall not brag, I got lucky in a lot of places, but I'd like to think I have proved Parasect can do it
that is the end of the solo bug runs for me, now it is time for the bug team, again on leaf green, I will do a full Gen 1 bug team (I will trade over a scyther once I have a few badges so it will obey), I may do a 2nd run on fire red using a few Gen 2 bugs after and I have a few other runs planned before moving to Hoenn for a while

I think that you're right about that one. I'm not sure if I'd call my opinion of Bugs going in the "love" direction quite yet :P That just seems like such a fun idea to explore, and we've already seem them against each other.
Venomoth seems pretty solid! I really need to get around to running it solo..
What a wild run you had with Parasect. When you said that you got through the R2 Champ reset-less my first thought was "what!?". But, you may have convinced me that when I run Paras again it needs to be against Blastoise. Because that Charizard is just too much. That's awesome though good job on another completed run! With that thing of all Pokémon :P
That's fair! You can't just run the same style of run over and over without driving yourself around the bend. You need a little bit of variety mixed in for sure. Are you going to involve ALL of the Bugs like Scizor/Heracross/..other good Bugs

@@Eggsceptional I always get the feeling you have a hell of a time scripting all of these runs, the beasts being no eggception. thats fair enough with Entei, having that speed and the full IV's (well nearly full) was a game changer for it, Misty is a rough opponent that early into a run, I would of left her for after the SS Anne for the sake of a few levels and EV's if nothing else, there are some special EV's to be gained doing that.
again thats fair, given the data you gained from the 1st runs, it makes sense to leave the natures alone. time to run these Pokemon multiple times is very short I guess, 6 runs in total for one video is a lot, I would test them myself but I lack the facilities, I don't think it would make a big difference overall time wise as you'd need to train more to make for that 10% drop in special, but I think there would of been less resets for the run, which is as we have said before is quite swag.
Jolteon might make good use of it as it has a better physical set thanks to its TM's, the same as the rest of the eevee's but also gets some double kick and pin missile for extra coverage opposed to its special coverage which is essentially whatever HP you give it. it is fast enough naturally though that curse might not slow it down too much and allow it to use that physical move pool. and yeah agility is useless on it, unless you baton pass it of course.
the regis will be great fun when the future gets here, I wonder how they will do in a poll, given how much we talked about them in the last stream, they might get some votes, but I think the legendary birds might win the next one.
you will truly love both of them, golem is a go to rock type in Gen 1 and aggron is very much the Gen 3 equivilant, move becoming available after the 1st gym. I think the dual weakness of aggron will hurt the run more than the dual weaknesses of golem. golem is almost used to it in fire red if that makes sense, it adapted, aggron is still learning in comparison, plus that damn mankey again lol.
I genuinely hate Koga's gym, it is good experience, but nearly every battle in there is rough, especially those hypnos, why so many psychic types in a poison gym, its madness to me. Koga is not the hardest gym leader as you can skip him for quite a while to train, but his gym is almost always a challenge, at least for my runs.
I doubt you will ever love the bugs, I think parasect and shuckle have made it so that will never happen, but you seem to like them and enjoy the challenge of them more and more. seeing the 4 big bugs of Gen 1 and 2 all together in a single vid would be awesome, a bit of me wonders if any of the Gen 3 bugs could pair up in a similar way for a doubles as well, Ninjask and Shedinja maybe?
Venomoth is rather solid, for your runs of it, I suggest speedy natures, that Aerodactyl and the big fire types of the champion will always be a threat, perhaps HP water just for them. resist the urge to use sleep all the time as well, without compound eyes it is an unreliable strat.
I couldn't believe it did that as well, it was close, don't get me wrong, I still needed to tank a hit or 2, but its high physical defense served it well, I think if you do a 2nd run, look into EV training for its HP and special defense if you can, I went with a brave nature for it, I knew it would never out speed anything that it really needed to, so I leaned into it and gave it some attack, sassy nature might be better as it boosts special defense instead of attack. I am more proud of doing it before level 100, I didn't think THAT was possible.
I have a few solos left to do, but just not bugs, my poison boys are up next for that but breaking it up with a few team runs 1st helps keep it fresh. in my 2nd bug run I will use more Gen 2 bugs. Scizor of course as its fire fire and heracross works for me instead of pinsir and I am thinking of breeding a yanma for the R2 to replace beedrill, I will keep parasect though, it has earned its place, I am not a fan of any of the other Gen 3 bugs to use them though and shuckle and fortress are emerald exclusive

@@jptheflipper3825 It's true but generally the SpA EVs on the SS Anne get left behind. I'm usually not ready to grind by then. Outspeeding Starmie by 1 point was beautiful. I was ready to use a Rare Candy too just to avoid the backtracking.
It's true I really hope that I can get another 0 reset run soon. The swag is real :P And yes, I wish I could invest more time into refining the runs for every video but that just isn't in the cards at the moment. Someday maybe.. but not today!
True enough. I was hoping that Jolteon would end up being similar to Aerodactyl where with that insane speed stat I could get away with a Curse or two without being punished too heavily. Hey, physical or special, I tend to prefer the one that has the best coverage. Or set up move :P
I don't know. I feel like there's enough mystery surrounding the Regis to be compelling. We'll see! I likely won't hold another 3 way vote for a few weeks either way. I need to finish off the year and find where that reset button for my brain is.
Ahh that damn Mankey. It'll be interesting to see for sure. I'm worried about Golem against the early Rival and Misty for sure. Then, approaching the late game I'm probably worried more about Aggron because of Bruno. We'll have to see though! Maybe I'll just race them to be sure.
For how often Koga poses a problem I'd say someone in his gym poses one as well. I agree, the Sandslash/Arboks everywhere can throw down some pain, but those Hypnos are nasty. Especially the level 38 one with Psychic.
Maybe that's something to explore then. I mean.. eventually. The best bugs of Gen 1/2/3 all showing down in VS matches. The dynamic would shift a lot I feel, with the Gen 3 Bugs being more suited to a team environment. Maybe? But yes, I'll likely never LOVE the Bugs, but I don't outright avoid them anymore!
Yeah Venomoth will be one that will need some fine tuning. The more I play and the more little strategic bits that I can find through fights the easier every subsequent run gets. That's part of why I'm looking so forward to re-running Tauros after 1 year of making content.
That's fair enough! It sounds like I just need to be a little more kind to myself in that run and it can go down without TOO much headache. .....he says not knowingly :P
That's awesome! Keeping Parasect around in a team environment makes way more sense to me than P as a solo runner. Forretress as well, seems like a team addition, not a solo runner. But hey, eventually I'll run 'em all. The good, the bad, and the headachy.

I think Entei would be a lot better if it had HP and Special Attack swapped. Still giving it that physical attacking prowess. But also making it's fire type moves hit very hard. 90 base isn't too bad, but it's pretty meh for a legendary geared towards offense.

Well, if we’re already cheating… I’d give Entei Eathquake because GameFreak clearly didn’t think the VOLCANO POKÉMON should probably know that move.
