It's pretty straight forward, once you get it going and Belabox has massively matured over the last 6 months. Services around the project have also matured greatly. But for those, who don't have a clue when it comes to computers, it is not recommended. And a bit of Linux knowledge helps a lot. I'm in the process of putting a video series together, that'll go through the steps of putting the kit together.
I'm a SRE/SW-Dev and I was able to get Belabox installed and running in a couple of hours. It's an amazing setup for this price point and it's Free Software. The only real issues are getting a good cam (sadly Sony discontinued all good action cams) and mobile power supply especially when using USB-tethering with multiple smartphones. Rationalirl did a great job!
I'm a programmer, but I still can't recommend this solution before it becomes easier to set up and adapt to specific needs. People that aren't tech savvy have no way of actually using this, without someone handling everything for them. Cool video tho!
Few clarifications by Rationalirl which didnt make it in the video: -SRT is the newer network protocol that has improved endpoint checking for faster error correction over RTMP (H265 is better video quality for lower bitrate) Does NOT send video at half data -Rationalirl does offer a relay service that can turn the SRT video to standard RTMP that can theoretically be used on regular OBS servers (more info on the github). -IMPORTANT: this tech is still in development and non-advanced users might want to hold off until it becomes more fleshed out (:
@@EmilioExploring Larix broadcaster does H265 and SRT. Use Speedify for bonding internal 4G+Wifi. Now you are on par with Belabox. Solution is availible to both iOS and Android and is affordable at $89/year for Speedify and Larix being free.
rationalirl released a new image in February 2022 that makes set up a little bit more user friendly. No more command line and initial configuration is now done through a web browser through the belaUI. Details can be found through rationalirl's video released on February 22 2022.
It's way better than the LiveU Solo to be honest, cause the LIveU Solo cannot do SRT / H265 encoding. SRT / H265 is just way better in quality and uses less bitrate.
Heya, bit late to the party but i'll try my 2 questions. How does one turn the nano on and off and how does the modem connect? I'll be using a pocket wifi without jacks so I need some way to get internet to the belabox.
I don't own one myself so can't confirm but I believe there is a button to turn on/off and you need usb or Ethernet to connect to a modem. I doesn't have a wifi module internally (although you can probably connect one via USB but that kinda defeats the point)
On the website of Belabox they show a video where they use an elgato capture card and the belabox. Why would you use an elgato capture card when you can just plug in your cams hdmi into the belabox? or is that not possible?
I don't have one so I can't say for sure but I heard you need specific power draw from the battery, probably 45W or 65W battery will do. Some people use portable UPS. Wish I could help more
the jettison nano is sold out hard to get and not easy to set up. I would recommend the LiveU Solo. Much easier but very expensive. See my other videos!
Unlimited lol. I think at 6000kbps, you use about 2.5gb/hour, but there are many factors for data, like sharing between modems, deprioritization, and signal etc. If you're planning to stream more then 4x/month no point in getting a limited plan.
Hey bud, I’m trying to build a back pack based off of your build. The one thing I was curious is if the M6 pro is worth it. I noticed you used the m1 for the build. Does the 4g cut it? Or should I try and run the M6 I found one unlocked for Verizon… by any chance can I hit you on IG or somewhere to ask questions about building also I have some questions about launching the actual stream. Like does my computer need to be running the whole time. If I’m going to be streaming somewhere hours away how would I do that? Stuff like that. If you don’t have time to answer totally get it. Just figured I’d ask. Im in Santa Rosa and I would love some help!
Hi sure glad to help. To answer your questions, I don't really think m6 would be a mega improvement over the m1. With routers your priority is connection stability, 5g only improves speed not necessarily range or coverage, speed is not important once you can achieve 4000kbps really. However if you your budget allows, 5g routers would theoretically be future proof if 5g connection does get better so it would be better later on (maybe). As for your server, it does have to be on all the time for your stream, so if you're hosting the server on your PC then yes. If you're streaming away from home then you would need to remote control into your server, so if your computer shuts down or you have a power outage then you're kinda screwed. If you're going out of the country I'd recommend a virtual server service like IRLtoolkit or something (there are many at different prices). I think its more about your technical knowledge, rather than irl streaming skill with the bellabox. it has improved since this video but still challenging though. You get what you pay for I always say.

I've been looking to Livestream my Doordash IRL to twitch and I knew this kind of thing had to exist. subbed, thank you!
@aMiFiii not yet, can you hmu and we talk in more detail?
Thanks for the great info. I watched this video after watching rationalIRL's Feb 2022 video. This was extremely helpful.
I'm getting one soon, still saving up. See you around.
Its funny watching this today because I watched this last year and was not familiar with you 2 and now I see you guys all over Twitch.
It would be cool to get the Belabox software in app form for phones.

I'll have to check it out and make an updated video!
The hardest part now is acquiring an NVIDIA Jetson Nano 😅
@@rondhi2 for real! They are double the initial price on amazon
Can it be used as a bridge? Meaning, can I send a signal out to a router to hook up my Mac etc?
Yes but not in the method you are saying. You can send the signal out to a network via local stream (rtmp/srt etc) and downstream it. Hope that helps
👀
Thats such a great video, you guys!! :D

As a LiveU solo user, this is an interesting alternative i'll keep my eye on...

Jeston nano discontinued?
Oh I'm not sure but I do know that more streamers are moving to the Orange Pi now. More capable and easier to get. Please look into that!

The HDMI on the Bella box is only for the display out. You need a capture card to get a video input (HDMI ports only go one way 😭)
how do you do the freaking power to the thingy?

You can have an SRTLA server for Belabox at Cluthlive's website: www.irlmediasolutions.com/
Anyone know if this ( Yahboom Jetson NANO 4GB SUB ) is the same as the nvidia and will it work for live streaming!

Hello. Please answer. I'm from Russia, will I be able to use bellabox for irl on twitch? How much will the tariff plan cost, $ 10?
Yes you can stream to twitch (that is how we use it). I can't answer anything about tariff. Good luck.
