- In this video I cover the equipment and basic technology I use to livestream my rides to Twitch. I'm using a Jetson Nano 2GB running BELABOX along with a Sony X3000 action cam. The basic video pipeline is 1) H.265 via SRT to 2) cloud server relay to 3) my home PC running OBS to 4) Twitch. Nice setup. Looking to get a Belabox setup for IRL streaming in the future,, so this was helpful thanks.
So cool!
Glad you put this up! For now just recording and uploading later but some day I'd like to live-stream an MTB XC race. Check out the Calero video I uploaded. Keep the Twitch streams going!
Thanks! That is a really nice trail you were riding, as a flatlander I'm jealous! I've had limited success when it comes to streaming in or near the mountains due to lack of cellular coverage. But you can always check in advance whether there are enough cell towers.
Hello. Thanks for Video. Ist the waveshare jetson u linked same as the nvidia jetson? will work the waveshare jetson also with belabox?
Yes it's the same!
I'm confused as to how the camera connects to the internet. The Amazon camera you posted has no physical way to connect to the modem
Any options for no tech savvy people?
Your best bet would be GoPro Hero 8 or better and the GoPro app to send straight to Twitch or RUclips. Phones aren't really an option for IRL cycling because they lack the stabilization needed for good picture quality.
This is great video! I’ve followed you for a long time and I know you have changed your IRL set a few times. I’ve not fully invest in an IRL setup yet, is this the one I should consider? Also why not use the GoPro, I recall you have one, that is probably what I will use with my setup.
Thanks! To answer your question, yes this is a setup worth considering, with a few caveats. A GoPro is perfectly fine, in fact it is better than the Sony X3000 in some ways (stabilization). The Sony allows for true 60p whereas GoPro typically have fake 60p (doubled 30p) when using HDMI out. I'm not sure about the Hero 10 though so don't quote me on that. Also the Sony has better low light performance. The biggest question, however is whether BELABOX is the right "brain" for your setup. It's not a true turn key solution like the LiveU is and requires some tinkering and manual installation/setup. I find, however, that when it works correctly the stream quality is much higher in BELABOX due to the better underlying technology. In short, if you're looking for a high quality turnkey solution, go with a LiveU, if you're ok with tinkeri g and want the highest stream quality possible, go with BELABOX.
Great video! I am also using Jetson nano and belabox by rationalirl, just starting. I am using a USB modem as I have no idea how to link the Jetson to a wifi router, could you please guide me on how to link wifi networks to belabox? Also watched some of your twitch stuff, it’s great! What speed are you streaming?
Thank you! Welcome to the fun journey that is IRL streaming with BELABOX. You need a USB wifi adapter, I'm assuming you already have one? If yes, then the recent BELABOX updates make it super easy to join a wifi network from BelaUI on your phone.
@@PeloTom_ thanks, I did not notice I needed the wlan adapter plugged in to get access to the config menu in belaUI.
Wich WLAN dongels u use?

Where can you get a Jetson Nano? sold out everywhere
Yes they are super hard to come by at the moment. Most people in the IRL community I've talked to can't find them new at the moment. Rumor has it that more boards will be produced and shipped in the next 2 months but don't quote me on that
Hey, I am thinking of doing this or a similar setup! Looks awesome, and I just found this video after learning about the LiveU Solo, which seems outdated and expensive (in addition to the base cost you pay for a subscription) compared to your setup. I wanted to ask if you're still using the same setup, and if not, what has changed. Thank you!
Hey there! I’m still using Belabox, but I now run it on an orange pi 5+ belabox.net/rk3588/
Maybe I missed this, but where does the elgato camlink plug in? Is that needed in this setup?
Yes it plugs into the USB 3.0 port on the Jetson Nano
@@PeloTom_ Thanks!
What is really the minimum we need to get setup for live streaming on a bike in a place like NYC? is the BELABOX really necessary?
Anything we need beyond a good camera, a power bank, and some cell service? I am really new to this.
Hey there! Technically you only need a phone. But if you want to have a stream that is resilient to network congestion, dropouts, etc, that’s where Belabox comes in. Using just a phone and one cell network will subject you to whatever the traffic conditions are on the cell tower you’re on
How do you get the sensor data (HRM/Cadence, etc) to OBS? This is what I've always wondered.
I use the xert platform (www.xertonline.com) and use their app for the hammerhead Karoo 2 which sends sensor data in realtime to their site. You can then add it as a browser source in OBS. Cheers!
Thank you for your explanations. Is there a reason why you use 3 different type of modems? Do you have a recommendation for a good modem? Thx
Yes each has a SIM card from a different carrier. I.e Verizon, T-Mobile, and Att here in the US. Nighthawk M1 and M6 and Inseego 8800L are the modems I use
@@PeloTom_ ok, thank you. But does it help to have different modems, or can i just buy 3 identical modems but with 3 different sim cards?
@@martinstoeck1816 each modem will have different bands some are geared more towards certain carriers than others. The M6 should have the most bands but it’s also the most expensive
How do you manage the battery of a gopro? I think if only lasts an hour. How can you make a long bike trip eith that?
Use an external power bank!
nice showcase, but how do you set ut up ? where is the info that people who want to do this them self needs to get started ?
Great question! I'd suggest watching this video to start. I'm happy to answer any questions you have as well! ruclips.net/video/YuH_B48nz1M/видео.html
Hi!! A lot of thanks for your videos. I saw in other video that you bought the DJI Action 2. The DJI works with this setup? Can you connect it via de the ucb-c? Thanks
It's a slightly different setup with n RTMP camera like the DJIA2. Here my current setup!:

@@PeloTom_ Thanks Pelotom!! It was so useful.
I really try to understand but I don't get it. How do you start your stream? From your phone? Its an app?
Yes, from my phone using twitch chat commands and NOALBS
Is streaming via Jetson Nano via H.265 better quality then simply using one of the newest phones directly to stream to RUclips?
Any comparison videos of such two setups?
It depends what you're doing but on the whole I'd say Yes, because using a single phone to IRL stream isn't nearly as reliable as using multiple cellular networks bonded together. Camera wise you can use anything with HDMI out or rtmp with the nano which opens up tons of possibilities. Good luck!
my sony fdr-3000 cant charge whilst its on, how do you fix that? I thought the sony can only be charged when the camera turned off? Do we need to change settings or something?
helpguide.sony.net/cam/1640/v1/en/contents/TP0000915856.html
Try checking if that setting is on
How do you connect the nano to 2 different access points? I think I saw one USB wifi adapter, but I assume you have two? Also because you connect them wirelessly to the nano, have you had struggles in busy areas where hundreds of access points exist in the 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz range? (Aka, before you even reach the internet, your devices lose connectivity to the nano)
Correct, I have 2 USB wifi adapters! You can configure them separately for different SSIDs in the new BELABOX UI.
No issues with wifi dropouts as I mostly am riding on roads outside
would you mind helping walk me through how to setup a nginx server? I assume thats how you are streaming yours
Hey sorry I don't use an NGINX server! I use the BELABOX cloud srt service cloud.belabox.net/
Also what is the case for the Jetson Nano?
amzn.to/3KTE2K8
Is there a way to livestream with the ig360?
I presume you mean an insta360, yes there is but you must use the insta 360 app
@@PeloTom_ okay, thanks! I love what you do here I'm just trying to simplify it to get started.
Hey Tom, I would pay you to build one of these rigs for me. $$$
I already have the Sony
