    Hello Mark, it was me (Curt) who you met on Thursday. I don't know who Kirk or Clint are!😊 I had two barbel, although as I said to you I was initially after chub on bread and caught my first barbel on bread, and then switched over to catch the second on meat. Hopefully see you again on the bank, tight lines ! Curt

      @@deano8752 Hi Curt (sorry I’m shocking with names). What brand of meat do you use? It’s so tough and rubbery just what’s needed. I’ll try to get your name right next time time 🥴

      @@AnAverageAnglerHello Mark, it's by Tulip and I buy it from Tesco. I don't hair-rig it though, I bury it in a size 6 hook. The first one on bread was a real surprise though, Bob James wrote an article years ago about catching barbel on bread paste, but the bite was just three little dinks on the rod.

      I remember you mentioning the bread paste bite….it may be the only one you ever have on bread 😂

    I agree. The people I meet are pleasant and very open, unlike the southern rivers! I was up the week before and I found it tricky. Yes the leaves make it hard.I tend to fish on the creases rather than right across and draw the fish in with hemp and bits of broken boilie/ few pellets using a dropper. The should I stay or should I go question is a tricky one. If the fish are hard on the feed it can be very productive to move but very often they are not and take time to respond. When they are feeding in short spells it is very easy to leave a good swim before they come on the feed. After over 40 years of Barbel fishing I have concluded that you are better off staying put. If you have picked a good swim, certainly on a river like the Severn, there should be Barbel in the area. I watched a couple of guys rolling meat last week. I didn't see them catch. The fish weren't feeding hard enough to respond to that highly mobile technique. These are just my feelings. Well done for your determination. Keep it going. Trying to decide whether to go up this month again. 🤔👍

      @@andrewjackson9603 Hi Andrew, thanks for watching and your comments. I was just chatting to a friend and said now with the short days and short feeding spells I may well just sit in one peg all day if I get up again this month. It’ll be interesting to see the match results from today (although those gents who fish the matches know the river so well it doesn’t mean others will catch just because they do).

      @AnAverageAngler Yes. You can always learn something from a good match angler. Good luck next time out. All my fish bar one last time came on 15mm Dynamite Hot Crab 'n Krill boilies. The best one took half a boilie. When the fish are proving difficult the half bait seems to work well. I generally use a pva mesh bag of little pellets and boilie crumble hooked on as well. I know most people use pellets. Most of mine ignore the pellet and take the boilie fished 5 yds below the main feed area on the other rod. I guess we all do things differently and if you're confident in what you do you always fish better don't you. 🙂🎣

      @@silentangling Thanks for watching as always. Yes something seems to have changed over the past month or so and the fish just don’t seem to feeding intently. I’m sure they’ll be a sudden switch on at some point pre winter……… Let’s just hope we’re all fishing at the time 🤞🏻

    Hi Mark, I was down the stretch yesterday on my bike looking at the river (we've got a match on Sunday). I had a quick chat with the lads digging up the track. Think I may have seen you waiting in a white suv. Not your best day but the water was very cold. Stick with it mate, look forward to actually bumping into you again down there at some point.

    Hello Mark, on the Yorkshire rivers we tend to turn to maggot feeder on the top rod at this time of year , yes you may attract small fish initially but if you keep it going in the chub and barbel will turn up , we use the kamasan black cap feeders some times with dead cows on if the flow is strong . Might be worth a go on the Severn ?

    • @AnAverageAngler
      @AnAverageAngler  Месяц назад

      Hi Andy, thanks for the tip. I actually had maggots with me on that trip, but need to get some additional weights (dead cows) for the feeders.
      I’ll give that a go next time 👍🏻
      Thanks for watching

    Hey mark ! Nothing ventured nothing gained, get back on the Trent mate, have u fished at stoke lane “ road side” stretch Ashfield Angling, day ticket at burton Joyce Nottingham ? Nice & easy parking on bank directly behind your peg , think u will enjoy the location!
