Hope we’re going to see a whole series of these Dom? I especially want to see Steve’s clock workshop!
Julyan was my guitar teacher as a teen and I’ve got to say he’s an absolute legend!
Thank you Dom for this interview with Julyan and others. My wife and so appreciate watching the Repair Shop and had often wondered what the story was behind each person. With your interviews we now see you as individuals with lives more than personalities from the program. When Julyan's is on the next time we can now appreciate his life story too. Thank you!
Subscriber from the States, Seattle WA. Love The Repair Shop and love this spin-off (of sorts) with you, Dom. Just found it and haven't dug in deep yet, but the thing I like about TRS is the diversity of crafts people on the show. I'm a Jack of all trades, so have done it all - including clock work, car building, metal Fab (just finished building a Frankenstein English Wheel with stretcher, shrinker, Bead Roller, and a small brake all attached to a Harbor Freight English Wheel. Works wonders), wood worker, welder, electronics. I really do it all. I also play guitar and have fixed a few dozen guitars and Uke's in my now 63 years. I just finished a sympathetic restoration on my dad's 1957 Gibson Byrdland last year, which was the most nerve racking luthier job yet. I did a restoration on the Gibson tube Amp he bought with it when he was still alive and playing. They are now back together and I hope he's looking down, pleased.
So I loved this episode and especially the bit about growing work spaces and then filling them. I can relate. It's especially hard when your shop has to comprise of automotive tools, woodworking tools, electronics tools, plumbing tools, and every tool in between. Can be difficult. Anyway just a note to say I enjoy your efforts in the show, glad I found your RUclips channel (which is how I'm watching TRS - just watched you solder up the watering can, which was brilliant work). Stay safe over there, since it's bat-shite crazy over here.
Like these :) Like others, surprised the production company behind the Repair Shop haven't done something similar!
Incredible really appreciate the visit to Julyan's workshop I've been such an admirer of his work on the Repair shop
Loving the "Meet the team" chat videos. Like this one does, they showcase the passion that these artisans have for their crafts. More please and thank you for sharing.
So clean & tidy! & as for the heated floor mat - we all need one in the barn. Great chat as usual ✨👍✨
Wonderful, Dom. You are a natural interviewer because you show how interested you are in the people you talk with. I echo the other comments. It would be wonderful for you to do interviews with each of your Repair Shop colleagues.
Met Julyan a few times when I lived in Penzance, thoroughly nice chap 🙂
Your mention of Fistral Beach took me back to the late 60s when I was a regular visitor from Yorkshire. In my 70s now. Lifesavers were a novelty back then. The only accommodation they had was a beat up old two berth caravan dumped at the top of the beach. Happy days and lucky girls!
I absolutely love your videos. I learn so much from them. The Repair Shop is great but I wish I could watch more of the detail behind the repairs, like clocks, jewellery, instruments and art restoration,. Also, what products to use like adhesives, where to get specialist tools and other materials. I know this will not be possible on Prime Time TV, so tough luck I suppose. On the other hand there is always RUclips. Thank you and all the best Dom in your future endeavours.
I understand there is a human element to each piece and that is germane to the show, but I wish some of the B-roll was omitted to get more details of the repairs in. Also a bit less of the, this is what you are going to see, this is seeing it, this is what you've just seen.
God, I've got workshop envy now!
I did enjoy that, Dom, thankyou very much for that video!
Well done Dom and Julyan! What a great workshop and a fascinating craft. It’s great to see the full personality that one doesn’t see in those Repair Shop snippets.
The thing I like most about the Repair Shop is that precise fact that you mentioned-everyone is part of one big family. It really shows. :)
Very, very interesting and thoroughly enjoyable. You're a natural and gifted documentary maker.
There is a fantastic school of musical instrument making at Newark College in Newark On Trent. They run courses in guitar making, violin making, piano restoration and woodwind instruments. A truly unique faculty.
This was cool! I repair guitars as well as building things and made a video of a guitar I was repairing recently and everyone kept telling me it was like watching the repair shop 😂
What a great episode! Although I enjoy all of them, this one was especially interesting. Julyan is a very engaging man. I would watch him if he had a RUclips channel. Luthiers are such amazing craftsmen.
.
Wow another Gem of interesting insight to a skill. Even the wood sounding different from the tree, that on its own blew me away. Nice meeting you Julyan! A skilled earned by hard graft over years has paid off by watching your repair skills. Amazing, well done, Dom for another brilliant interview. Don't stop them, love to see more of them Dom. Thank you.
"Good bit of kit". Yep, I'm sold on all of it.
Another craftsman in their natural habitat, the current generation of young people need the opportunity to learn these skills 👍🥸
It really is lovely to see this series of your repair shop colleagues, please do continue it.
This is a a great series of 1 2 1s with the R/S experts. You have beaten the BBC to the punch here. I hope you can continue to interview these interesting people. Thanks Dom and Julyan.
This was so encouraging and informative, should be shown in every schools design technology department.
Awesome to see my two most favorite RS heroes having a chat!! Thanks a million for this experience.
Thanks guys for the insight into your crafts,, absolute pleasure to hear you. Please please give a serious
thought into passing your priceless skills on to a young keen apprentice. How rewarding would that be.
I know the effort involved I am from a time when we taught as a part of our trade. ( electrician )
Thanks again guys hope to see you both soon.
I enjoyed this immensely as I'm a Repair Shop and guitar junkie and my teenage years were much the same as Julyan's though I did more playing than repairing. I must look out for more 'meet the expert' videos.
Brilliant watch guys…what a lovely guy Julian is…well done Don in making this interview.. keep em coming 👍🏽👏🏼
Lovely video Dom, thanks! I Look forward to see more of these about the Repair Shop team. Hope you will do one on David Burville and his mechanical organ workshop as well.
What a fantastic video Dom! Great to see julyan's workshop. Best of luck to both of you "Thanks".
Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable and nature meeting of another Repair Shop celebrity. Regular people abound, even on the telly!!! Peace out!
What a pleasure to see inside a craftsmans workshop, thank you both.
Really nice video, great to see around Julyan's workshop. My favourite "meet" so far and the others have been good.
What a great forty miutes of my life, a really super honest, informative and what I would call, a trully friendly video. Thanks Dominic, just one thing, the next time that you meet up with Julyan, ask him to start making some videos to put on RUclips, he's a natural. All the very best to you both and again thank you
very very interesting , loved it 👌😊
That was really good Dom. Lovely man and so interesting. Thankyou.
What an interesting video, I didn't know about different sounds wood made. I've always known there's a difference between guitars, I prefer Fender's. What a great guy, the one thing that sticks out amongst you professionals is a willingness to pass/teach all your skills. Thanks Dom, great interview, have a good week ahead.
Fabulous video today with you and Julyan Dom - lovely to see inside Julyan's super organised workshop - The secret's out now Dom you being able to play the saxaphone and Tuba . I'm just starting to learn to play the Alto Sax 🎷, luckily I've got a very patient teacher 😊
Fantastic Dom......Thanks for sharing this. My son went to the same school
It's my absolute pleasure to point anybody interested, towards the Luthiery courses at Crimson guitars in Dorset. They have a vast library of videos and content here on youtube too.
Have to say the start was great, this is one of the best interviews I have seen, keep them coming. The Workshop is just such a great show and the Workshop people make it!!!
Very interesting episode, Dom. Visiting other people’s workshops will make a great series. Let’s have more, buddy.
Loved this. I've been building guitars as a hobby for over 25 years, my workshop is very much like this but smaller and I agree, with each new build I learn a better way to do it.
I really enjoy your videos and especially these series of meet the restorers, I would love you to do one on the clock man I'm a retired electro mechanical engineer and I restore Stationary Engines and show them at rally's but Covid stopped the shows. I've always liked clocks and watching the repair shop got me to pick the hobby up and I now tinker with them and have a collection of over twenty dating from 1850 to the 40's.
How nice to see your repair shop colleague in his own environment Dom very interesting video 👍
Brilliant as usual and especially interesting to see behind the scenes and learn about the experts, keep em coming Dom 🙂
What an excellent idea to do a workshop tour, and great to see Julyan at home in his own Repair Shop. Nice work Dom.
Love this series of chats with the repair team, so very talented, regards from N.Z
This video has been a real treat well done Dom !
That was brilliant! I can't even play guitar and I was fascinated listening to Julyan. He's right about living in Cornwall though - you never visit all the tourist spots when you live here. I live not far from Tintagel but I've never been to the castle or the new bridge (but they have got a great hardware shop :) ).
This video really struck a chord with me, excusing the pun….your conversation about when you do what others consider a fantastic job and you think to yourself how you could have done something slightly better…that’s exactly how I am on my refurbishments….we’re all striving for perfection but can’t achieve it 😊
Evening Dom
Atco green and qualcast green are 2 different colours
And atco machines had different greens depending on model
Any idea of the paint codes…I ended up using a John Deere green on my refurbs which wasn’t right tbh
@@brianhull5125 sorry I dont as when I worked at the factory it had already been taken over by Bosch but a lot of the kit coming out of the paint plant was powder coated at that point but I will ask a couple of the old boys when I see them to see if they know
Brilliant. Really enjoyed this video and like others have said, would love to see more.
Now that was an excellent visit Dom .
Julyan has an amazing workshop & having seen his work on the repair shop so impressive .
So now Dom we look forward to your next visit. Take care.
I like to see all these workshops
Hello Dom,
Great video, thank you... I like Julyan's U shaped bench with the underfloor heating. I really like Penzance I remember staying in The Egyptian House there, super cool place. See you next week.
Take care.
Paul,,
Great video Dom fascinating to see the graft that all of you do away from the repair shop and the camerady between you all hope their are more to come thank you so much 👍👍👍👍♥️
I've been messing about with woodwork all my adult life & have heard of tonewoods, but never realised quite what the term meant:
Now I do & I've heard 'zackly what the name signifies - Thanks Julyan.
Fantastic new season keep them coming dom
Excellent stuff. Clearly a kindred spirt, great chemistry. Dom do a superb job interviewing other craftsmen.
Great video. I want to see the teddy bear lady’s workshop
This is absolutely fascinating. And what a workshop!!!!👌🥰
Thanks Dom and Julyan, a fantastic, interesting video. I hope there’s more to come with the rest of the repair shop team 😍😎👍🏻
Great video Dom. Always good to see others do their thing like the Teddy Bare ladies restoring a beat up teddy, or Steve fixing a barograph, or Will doing marquetry or even a guy called Dom restoring a pedal car. Great seeing you interviewing those guest fixers who drop by now and then.
What a great video to watch , and what a great bloke Julian is
Great interview Dom so natural and easy going, thank you
Wow what a cracking video and so so interesting thank you for sharing. I loved the fact that wood has different sounds you learn something new everyday brill. Cheers Dom and Julyan.
That was a great video Dom. Julyan has such a fascinating story as do you all on The Repair Shop. The enthusiasm is contagious. I also loved all the tie ins about the boat, the wheel and his family. Great job getting that on film!
Great video, really enjoyed looking around Julian's workshop and interesting listening to his story.
Great one again thanks for your show. MORE please.
Great stuff! I love watching the 'Repair Shop team' videos and learning how these talented people work. It's fabulous to see that there is still a place for these traditional crafts.
So good!
Thanks so much.
