For those unaware, the sand in the hammer is because it's a "dead blow" hammer. These are designed to not bounce. With a normal hammer, the impact of metal against metal would cause it to bounce up. But with sand in a cavity in the head, after the hammer hits, the sand is forced forward and hits the back of the brass head, stopping it from bouncing.
Being able to work on my own guitars with the right tools is rewarding in the best ways possible. I save money and it's setup the way I like it. Thanks Phil for sharing your time and talents! \m/
Enjoyed the tour of your work area and tools. I do all the repairs and mods on my guitars. I was happy to see that I have many of the different types of tools you have.
Very informative. I'm a online jeweler who works for my wife. There is definitely some overlap in tools. One upgrade I cannot recommend more is a flex-shaft tool, similar to your dremel, but way better. It has a foot speed pedal which makes all the difference. The USA made Foredom SR is the industry standard. The 3/32 quick change handpiece is also invaluable. But it is about $400 with the pedal. New is a similar Eurotool one for under $125 at Armstrong Tool and Supply (not affiliated, but from my home state) which I also have and paired with a $30 Foredom foot controller (way better), it is a great deal! It comes with a jacobs handpiece, but also can use foredom handpieces!
Thanks for the tour through the toy store. I have a friend that could benefit from that truss rod kit. I have a truss rod wrench like yours but because of head stock truss rod pocket interference I opted to buy the Ekland 4 mm t handle truss rod wrench. The wrench shaft is narrower thus allowing me to properly engage my truss rod. I have a Jackson JS3 Spectra bass and a Ibanez SR 300EB bass.
Thanks Phil. This is an amazing offer. Just picked up the Stewmac screwdriver and wrench set and got my membership! An incredible deal all thanks to you. Love your channel and videos. Keep them coming.
For your stats- if you wonder why I click on your vids only for a few seconds then hit "like" and leave- it's because we watch your videos on our big screen tv. Sometimes later I'll hit the "like" on the laptop. We are late bloomers- retiree age- and both watch. I just did upgrades to my $99 Indio last weekend. Love your channel- always enjoyable- the best part is the random stories lol. Most recently the 10 minute story on Beato's guitar just so you could say "I was right" LOL. Love it. You need to get your other half on a video sometime. Oh yes- and husband bought me one of your t-shirts too.
And now, we "know your gear"! LOL I am very familiar with StewMac. When I converted my home shop from building and selling computers, to setup/repair/building guitars all of the specialized tools I bought from StewMac. I had most of the electrical items/tools, that helped. I also did a lot of woodworking, and I collect old tools, that helped too. There are still a couple bigger ticket items I have my eye on, but I have a really good start. Thanks for sharing Phil!! 8) --gary
Very nicely organized, mine is all over the place with tools in drawers and on shelves etc! Not a real luthier, just a do it yourselfer enjoying the craft one fret buzz at a time. Thanks Phil!
Thanks for all the valuable info, Phil! Not everyone understands how much time goes into a video, from creating the idea, shooting, editing, etc; but truly appreciate being able to learn from you 🙏🙏🤘
Phil, something else worth mentioning if you are getting into guitar repair and setup are the books by Dan Erlewine at StewMac: "Guitar Player Repair Guide" & "How To Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great!" I have a copy of each and in addition Dan's videos, his books have been invaluable to me when it comes working on guitars.
Hey Phil, just wanted to say that you are the reason I learned how to set up, repair, and modify my guitars. I love the workbench tour and all of your various personal collection style videos. Thanks for inspiring me and I'm sure many others!
Yes! Exactly. Same here. Without this channel and Phil's knowledge and generosity I wouldn't be where I am today on handling my own guitars. Thank you 3000!!
Wow - amazing workbench! I have a bunch of those StewMac tools - in some cases, I use a generic alternative, but for some things like the fret end file it's worth it to go with the StewMac stuff. Buy once cry once.
Thank you so much for this, Phil! It's fun to see that side of your world. I'm the same way with continuing to use broken or worn out tools (within reason) haha
Thank you so much. I just renewed my StewMac thing and saved 50% with your link. It just lapsed a week or two ago. I've said it before and I stand behind it, Phil you totally Rock! Thank you again!
They do replace broken tools. First hand experience. And it was easy. They were nice about it. Fret Tang nippers were the last ones they replaced for me and fast.
Love your videos!! Question for you. I live in Phoenix Arizona and I have been getting my guitars setup by guitar center for a few years but they never do a great job to be honest. Is there a place you'd recommend that does killer setups for electric and acoustic guitars?
You can buy croc clips and other utensils that screw onto the end of your multimeter probes. No need to solder and are all easily interchangeable. I think places like RS Components sell them.....no need to solder and heaps of different options to screw on and off and they all come in one bag
Thanks for the video, I always like to see how others set up their work shops. I wanted a workshop to build and maintain guitars but live in an apartment so I put an old 4'x4' grow tent in the spare bedroom so I could build/work on guitars. It paid for itself in 2 weeks when I dropped a quart of stain that would have ruined the carpet. I also get ideas for what mods and tools I need or can use by watching you and other guitar channels. In closing, I just want to thank you for all the information you have shared over the years and look forward to seeing what's yet to come.
Cool video, I’m kind of a neat freak myself but you’ve got me beat. My big issue is all the damn sawdust with paint in it here lol, reds, blues, yellows… I need to shop vac all the dust out of it badly. Mine’s in my 2 car garage and not in my house so it’s sort of acceptable but after seeing yours I guess I need to do a deep cleaning here 🤣
I'm planning on starting my own little set-up and flipping used guitars gig in my basement, this video was super helpful. Thank you thank you thank you.
Hi Phil, I sent you an email asking for help with static noise on my Telecaster. You responded right away and sent me a clip from this video about the static guard you use. I was surprised I heard back from you. You must get a TON of messages and I assumed you are probably a super busy guy considering the popularity of your channels. Just wanted to say thanks.
Phil, I literally didn't touch my guitars before I started watching your videos. Then I knew it was something I could learn to do by myself and I love taking care of my instruments myself.
I work in real estate and whenever I show a property with a garage work shop like Phil's thumbnail picture, I suggest clients take the house "as-is" and that they should haul ass on the decision :) Sometimes you dont have to stick your head up the cow's butt to know the meat is good.
First, thanks for the video. Yes, StewMac does have many good points BUT there advertised, World Class Customer Service, is not always that. They advertised, ALL fretting tools on sale recently BUT I found out trying to order the Fret Barber, that was not included. Not sure how they came to that conclusion even when I contacted them, they said , no that's not included......REALLY!!!
This was an awesome informative video. Hurricane Ian is going be hitting here. I hope I don’t lose power/internet. I don’t want to miss the live show. Haha
A ton of the Stew Mac tools can be purchased from Browns Guitar Factory for a 1/4 of what they cost from Stew Mac and half of them will come marked Stew Mac. Not sure what the relationship is but with Stew Mac tools being outrageously expensive why pay more when you can get the exact same tool for less?
Ok Phil,I read down a ways and nobody ask this question,so maybe it is a stupid Q.But I'm just starting out so,maybe in this case it's not.WHAT IS A REEMER?or REAMERorREIMER I DON'T KNOW!!!

Very cool, thanks for the tour and discount
Thank you for the great video. Hope to see you. At the Phil. Guitar showI I,ll look for you. Paul.
Awesome! Thanks for doing this video.
Being able to work on my own guitars with the right tools is rewarding in the best ways possible. I save money and it's setup the way I like it. Thanks Phil for sharing your time and talents! \m/
I could not Agree more. I've been doing all my own work for the past 10 years, and Never been Happier. Great stuff presented on this channel.
Thanks for this video I learned a lot.
Great video Phill. To me this is valuable information.
Bright fluorescent, like your shirt. Tools that glow and call your name everyday.
Enjoyed the tour of your work area and tools. I do all the repairs and mods on my guitars. I was happy to see that I have many of the different types of tools you have.

Hey Phil! Thanks for the tour of your workbench.
Frig, Phillip. This video was invaluable. Thank you for sharing!
OUTSTANDING! I now have a reference when ever I need/want a tool so I'm not spending hours researching all of the options out there. Thanks!

Thanks for the Stew Mac discount. Savings on shipping is well worth the price.
I like when you make these kinds of videos.
Great Work Area..... Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the tour, Phil! Good stuff, as always. 🎸🤘

Thank you Phil I always learn things from you, also I didn't know Nomad products existed until now,I appreciate your honesty and generous advice.
Loving these tech centric videos! I'm repairing several junker guitars right now and these are invaluable. Thanks, Phil!
Thanks for the tour. You know I'm going to screen shot the "Pedal to the Metal" fret rocker.
More people should share the work benches. I REALLY enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you David.
Great video Phil! Thanks for the tour!
Tapered allen wrenches are an interesting idea. Never saw them before.
Thank you so much. I just renewed my StewMac thing and saved 50% with your link. It just lapsed a week or two ago. I've said it before and I stand behind it, Phil you totally Rock! Thank you again!
This is peak nerdiness haha absolutely love it
Nice work space! I love the organization!
They do replace broken tools. First hand experience. And it was easy. They were nice about it. Fret Tang nippers were the last ones they replaced for me and fast.
Oh man.... you always make me want to either fix something or play something.
But thanks.
Cool repair shop!
Cool, thanks for the tour. Probably gonna steal some of your organization ideas for my shop. 😄
I really was hoping the pointer was a magic wand.
Good vid.
Thank you Phil!!!
This Stemac issue always stopped me from getting more stuff from them but this helps a lot!!
I kept nodding my head.... 'Yep - got that, Yep - got that too". Good sanity check for me to know I've got some of the better tools.
Love your videos!! Question for you. I live in Phoenix Arizona and I have been getting my guitars setup by guitar center for a few years but they never do a great job to be honest. Is there a place you'd recommend that does killer setups for electric and acoustic guitars?

What a killer work shop you have Phil and thanks for the video.
Shop tour was great man, nice and organized as always.
I had been planning to make an order at stewmac, but I don't get paid till Friday, I will miss the discount!

Awesome tour, gave me some ideas for my setup!
Do a pickup tour would love to see you make one or even see the collection 😁
Definitely overwhelming how many tools you need, no idea which one to get first but thanks for the info!

Bring back Sharpen My Axe 🤘
Thank you for the video.
I think you will be happy in October
Awesome walk-through
Hi Phil, loved this review of your gear. Cheers ✌️🎸

That was one tidy workbench! (I wonder if it’s always that tidy!)
Phil
Where did you find the wooden Tele bowl?
Great video again
From the thumbnail I thought those were some Texas thingys. Think I needs thicker glasses. I think you were supposed to get some too Phil
Hey Phil I want to make a matte finish glossy on Wood Pawlonia Dean Vendetta body. Do your recommend polish or spry lacquer or what? Thanks.
What is the height of your bench from the floor? Do you have/need a height adjustable chair/stool to work on instruments?

Do you like the Fret Guru string action gauge vs. the Music Nomad ? ( both are black ) as opposed to the Stew Mac one ( that was difficult to see ) ?
Is it worth fixing a Roland cube 60 COSM?
Love it, Phil. How long did it take you to reorganize your shop before filming? Haha jk. Top work, my man.
Where did you get the black baskets for your pegboard?!?! Those would be so useful! Thanks for everything Phil!
Hi Jon. Homedepot
www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-Steel-Mesh-Pegboard-Basket-in-Black-2-Pack-24265/205489058
@@PhillipMcKnight Thanks brother! There's 11 in stock at my local store. lol
Awesome
I didnt know you were still doing repair work. Can you fix that Charvel neck i sent pics of last month or so?
I stopped using Kyser capo when I saw it makes bump on the back of my cheap Yamaha acoustic's neck. The pressure is too high for me.
how I do it to ship a Guitar to Philip for a Setup?
Hurricane Ian may put me off line for a while. Watch your show when power back on.
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.😁
Man behind the pegboard
Give em the clamps Clamps!
Wasn’t Reamer a hologram?
Link to that output Jack wrench that plugs in?
That was cool! Do you always keep it that neat or was it neat because you invited us over? My guess is it's always neat!
Awe man....... I bought my yearly stewmax last week
I was told by other viewers if you call them they might give you the discount. Doesn't hurt to ask.
Soooooo you like stew mack ?
It's awful tidy bud😱😂😂😂👍🥃Respect to you mate
Ok Phil,I read down a ways and nobody ask this question,so maybe it is a stupid Q.But I'm just starting out so,maybe in this case it's not.WHAT IS A REEMER?or REAMERorREIMER I DON'T KNOW!!!
Why is music nomad so expensive?

I went to a Luthier whose shop was an absolute disorganized mess. Sure enough he ripped me off.
