Oil Drip Pan - Replace Or Watch Your Engine Die
HTML-код

- Replace this part or your air intake manifold will die. I'm not kidding! This part wears thin with a groove line that allows oil to slip past after which it ends up in the air intake manifold and causes damage if not rectified quickly.

Hey Keith. Mind as well recommend to change out the pcv cover to finish this replacement. And on more extreme fix, if oil is on the tube, clean it and recommend a oil catch can. Then continue to clean up the butterfly and plastic elbow below the maf.
This looks like it is for Gasoline engines only.
I have a diesel and I’m changing the PCV valve very soon.
Your so right: this failed part causes huge problems. I’m thinking about putting a Mann and Hummel PV200 air/moisture/oil seperator in line as well.
Unfortunately there is no room for a MANN and HUMMEL PV200, what a shame as it is a top product.
I guess, I will have to rely on the factory PCV valve and inspect, clean if possible as well as cleaning the rubber pipe from the PCV valve to the intake, so that way by checking for any oil residue is a good way to tell if this valve is still working.
This really should be done by the mechanics as a standard item to check at each service.
I highly doubt Mercedes check this.
It’s highly likely that the intercooler is not functioning properly if there is a fair bit of oil in it. I’m certain there is oil in it as there is oil all thru the intake to the turbo. Can not stress enough to people how important on any engine, but particularly the old OM642 3.0 litre V6 diesel that the PCV valve is operational.
This engine is common in many Mercedes as well as some Jeeps, possibly other Crysler vehicles.
Interesting. I have a 2010 C300 4matic sport that just reached 150,000 miles so im going through everything replacing any worn parts. I already have the breather cover on my list and after seeing how the drip pan wears guess ill replace it also while im in there. The parts themselves are fairly cheap but they are starting to add up. Thankfully I have been checking all the various hoses and they seem fine, still soft and not brittle so probably just clean them and put back. So far since ive had the vehicle the only check engine light was solved by replacing the purge valve which I bought used for $12.
Hey Keith, what size of socket do you use to remove the oil drip pan bolt?
Think it's an E10 socket, haven't done mine yet though. I checked and the bolts to the cover are E10 on mine where I've seen others have T30 heads. When I bought my Mercedes one of the first things I did was buy a nice torx set, use them on almost every repair it seems.
Hi Keith, I hope you are O.K.
Thanks for all your video's.
Take care.
thanks for the clockwise :) i played long, before i found your video, i tried unscrew the bolt normally :)
Excellent video. Any footage of the actual replacement? Haven't come across a good video on it (even though it's just unbolting it from the cam, it's always nice to see it).
Yes. Video here: ruclips.net/video/G4fv0i_OhOg/видео.htmlsi=V3i0yZFmzr4GI3_E
I changed it after your video.. Thanks
If this part fail well I get oil leak from the filler cap. I went n buy new filler cap from the dealership still leak any idea. Thanks you
Hello 👋.
Yesterday I changed this parts, thanks for the advice. But how to understand what was wrong with old oil drip pan ?
the old drip pan fails with leaks - the diaphragm - wears out which causes leaks, etc.
iRepair Autos so my diaphragm was damaged. Thanks for your help.
@@iRepairAutos is this part on my 09 s550
Hello viewers, to anyone going to change out oil drip pans or PCV valves & hoses pls try doing the below. It does not matter if doing the above is for a diesel or gasoline engine.
Dip for engine oil level before the 1st engine starts for the day. Then start the engine and keep the engine running on idling. After 2 minutes dip again for engine oil level. How much did the oil level increase or decrease.
Then after changing the oil pan or the PCV valve & hoses repeat all the above steps.
For my car the engine oil level increases by 1/10" before changing the PCV valve & hoses vs decrease of 4/5" after changing them. 🤔🤔🤔
Slight oil going to the intake manifold should not be a problem as the MAF sensor located just after the engine air filter. While oil pan or PCV breather hose return is actually going into air intake manifold at further downstream away from MAF location. Yes, no?
PCV valve & hoses from crankcase going into the intake manifold has a 2nd equally critical function of preventing supercharged air pressure from back flowing into the engine crankcase. For NA engines there is no such critical 2nd function. Yes, no?.
I would encourage car owners to split open the old oil filter, after doing oil change, to confirm if there is a sudden increase in shining metal. Buy a dipstick from online and dip for oil level after every 1000 miles. There was a dude who had over filled too much engine due to his malfunction oil level sensor.
For me l am planning to tap into the oil filter casing to install a PG to verify oil pressure of 1.5barg at idling rpm and 3barg at 2000rpm.
Regards.
Kieth, thanks for all of your videos man. I've got the 2002 W220 S430 Mercedes-Benz and I'm hearing a light gurgling sound from the air intake hole (without the cover on) and I want to know what it is and what to do about it. Videos say CCV, Oil separator, Oil drip pan/ PVC, "Re-breather" ...??? What do you think? This model doesn't seem to have the rebreather or the oil separator installed.... you mentioned In your videos.
Thank you very much bro
Why not send the hose to a catch can no oil in the manifold
If this goes bad, does it get blue smoke come out of your tail pipe? I notice when i rev little bit of blue smoke pops up. Its worthy to note that i have changed my piston rings, replaced my valve seals. I suspect pvc may be the culprit still causing blue smoke, though thin looking to exit my exhaust pipe
Does this apply to the OM 642 diesel engine, or just the gas version? Thanks for your videos!!
I would like to order oil drip pan, oil separator my car is an s550 2007 base car, need info
got it thank you sir
Sit can you please show how to change the coolant temp sensor at the back of the cylinder hear driver side e280 272.943 please please please , even my mechanic doesnt know how
I change mine recently. It's a pain in the behind to get to it due to lack of space behind there and you can see it either. Have to go back touch. You have to remove the maf and plastic elbow to give you room for your hand to get back there. After that, you have to go by feel. There is a bolt or 2 you have to remove before you can take out the that sensor.
Does this also apply to Diesel engines
2008 GL 320 ..
Hi I have a Mercedes C-280 and im changing the oil drip pan as you recommended. I was able to change all the bolts leading to the cover but the interior of the drip pan has one that is impossible to get to. Do you have the specifications of the socket type mm's and length that is needed? I have tried everything and it doesn't work. Really appreciated. Thanks
Mercedes part# 000000003495. M6x30. E10 socket.
Great video, You have saved me in advance a lot of headaches.
Hey Keith how often should you change this? Thanks for this vid.
Inspect every 30K miles. Replace if necessary.
I have a video on the inline pans. They work, but I'm not a huge fan. They require constant monitoring. Video here: ruclips.net/video/G4fv0i_OhOg/видео.html
@@iRepairAutos Is it possible for this part to last 100,000 Miles?
Is this for the m113 2006 sl500 if so how do I get the parts from you
is this on a 2002 CL500?
When should this be changed? Miles or years?..Thks...jc..just saw you mentioned 30 miles. How about years as I will not get to 30k on my slk350
It should only be changed upon visual inspection because it may wear slower or faster depending on driving style, oil quality etc..
Thank you..jc
Whats the part number for the reverse thread bolt? Thanks

Hi Keith, about 2 months ago I replaced both the oil separator and pcv cover which goes over the part, and now I am finding fresh oil in the hose which goes from the pcv to the intake/maf housing. Any ideas?
Your resolutions is a oil catch can. Watch his other video showing that installation.
I'd check the oil level and make sure its not overfilled. Then id ask if you used OEM Mercedes parts or aftermarket. I'd take it apart again and inspect everything. Should not be getting oil in that hose.
Hellor i have a r350 4 matic 2008 the engine is consuming me a lot of oil ,if you can help me what to do thanks
Leaks or burning or both. Any visible signs of oil on the engine or parts?
@@iRepairAutos no, there is no oil leak
looking for the installation video. I don't find it anywhere.
Sorry. Here, ruclips.net/video/G4fv0i_OhOg/видео.html
I got a check, but I think mine already broke the propels It feels like a broken fan sound in the front of the motor. Close to oil Cooling Do you have any video you can recommend on that?ml350 07
I did my oil drip separator and the PCV valve then I drove my ml 350 for over 2 months then I checked it out but there's oil on the hose that goes to intake manifold is that Normal ? Please tell me
Hmmmm, Some oil is normal. Clean the hose and monitor. How often do you have to add oil? How many miles on the vehicle?
I always check the level en is normal I don't add oil cuz its always normal. 150 k's miles
Thanks for answering by the way.
It's a 2011 ml 350
That’s how they improve MPG nowadays, to meet demanding EPA rules! Burning oil instead of gas! Toyota did similar thing on2AZFE.
Hi guys. A vast majority of M272 engines have this tapping noise. See video ruclips.net/video/x-TYtuWxU58/видео.html. Does anyone know what it is and how to remediate?
payed 3000 euro for a oil drip ...
What!? That's crazy expensive
hello Keith. I have the same question as Azmir, what size of socket do you use to remove the oil drip pan bolt?
E10 socket?
