    Hi Keith, I've been enjoying your DIY content now for a few months thank you very much! April of last year I purchased a 2009 SL550 Roadster with 61K miles and I really love the car however 4 months later I had to replace the hydraulic tandem pump ($4.5K repair ouch) but that's okay moving forward. Like you I prefer to be preventative and proactive to minimize large repair bills, that said and since the ex-owner of the car didn't have much service history on the car I'm looking at all I can do to feel confident that the car will last me as long as possible. The car now has 66k miles and I've done all the fluid changes (Engine, transmission & differential oils etc) and because of this video I've ordered the parts to replace the crank case centrifuge and cover the three plugs on the back of the engine and the front right crank case oil separator, a few less thing to worry about. I did run across your video about the typical air intake manifold failure for the M272 & M273 engines and I wanted to ask if you know the MTBF value of the air intake manifold, in your experience when are they failing and since I'm at 66k miles is it something I should be proactive to avoid a road failure?

    Love you and what your doing for us regular driver's that saved for a long time to buy a used MB, and to find out afterwards that you have been ripped off is infuriating. Where I live in New York it can get the seller serious problems to there health if or when they are found out. I know that the guy who did it to me was drinking through a straw for a while and had alot of time to think about doing it again, i got my money back and then some and let's say an unwanted but gratifying bonus. Your a good man and doing a great service for us.

    I changed the oil recently, and that cap didn't go on correctly. Ended up getting oil all over the exhaust. That was fun. Ended up it was crooked, but it seemed okay, when I put it on. It's good now.

    Hi Keith. Have you check the so called egr on that mercedes engine. Also what is the maintenance schedule on that. It's the 2 circular metal color part bank 1 and bank 2. In the front.

    You have to know, some m112 &m113 gudgeon pins noise sounds like lifter noise , with people flushing and changing lifters when its actually gudgeon pin

    Question: I have a 2003 E320 Mercedes with 86k miles. It's currently stuck in winter mode, or what I assume is winter mode. Basically, it's stuck in second gear.
    I had been told incorrectly to press the w/s button when it's raining. Which is what I did last week when it was... Any idea how to rectify this issue? Thanks so much!❤

    Hello Quintus,got a question got a S430 Mercedes Benz was told byq electrial shop need a computer modular a factory reset is that correct, everything has to go to the dealer expensive ha!!! It want stay crank you can jump it but turn it off as to be jumped again, HELP!!I use you tutorial for everything God bless

    My drivers side power side mirror window doesn't lock open, it moves freely, even when it closes, but it won't open unless I physically push t open. Can you do a video on how to replace or remove the side mirror. Also ho much can you get a replacement side mirror for, 2008 ML 350 gas, 6 cylinder.

      Bruce Castells Nice car Bruce... if you can’t hear the washer pumps working have a look at the fuses. For both ft and rr to not work suggests it’s a wiring fault.. get a test light and check the fuses ok. Also get a sewing needle and clean out the washer holes as well in case there blocked. Ya should do that at every service..

    Question, I installed a right side ignition coil on my 92 500sl Mercedes Benz. On the left side of the coil there a bolt an ground strap location . Right side just one bolt. I don't see the location of the ground strap on the left side of the coil. Do I ground it to the positive side coil or the left side bolt. Please help solve.

    Keith, I bought the new hoses, the plugs and the Centrifugal rebreather (Oil Drip Pan/PCV per your other video) a year or two ago from you and went about installing everything on my 2009 ML 350 4matic after dealer told me I had a small leak. The plugs and hoses all went on very easy but I had much difficulty with the centrifugal rebreather apparatus. I just could not get it to seat properly so I could put the cap back on. I checked it very carefully against the old one and looked exactly identical. Tried again and no luck. Is there any trick to getting this to seat properly? I put the old one back on and have periodically rubbed a rag back there with no evidence of oil leaking (and no negative pressure on the oil cap per this video) so have been content to not replace it but I would like to get it done eventually! Thoughts?

    I’m having a problem with my c230 I plugged a portable heater up to my cigarette lighter and it blew a fuse and everything started messing up I’ve had to replace the alternator, belt , the sunroof stopped working, the back shade don’t work I’ve replaced some plugs some coil packs and it’s still saying misfire on different cylinders could this be an electrical problem or just a coincidence that all this just messed up

    Thanks for making things plain! Question: if the rack and pinion needs replaced, will the power steering feel stiff and possibly make a whining noise?

      Whinning noise usually comes from the veins in the power steering pump where you check the power steer oil level which is caused by low oil levels due to a leak somewhere in the hydrolic system. allowing the pump to suck in air and causes the oil to turbulate creating air bubbles in the oil damaging the power steer pump. Because of this yes the steering will feel stiff, and as you turn the whining noise goes up and down. Suggest to replace power steer pump and do an air bleed sequence. [Extreme Caution here. You can damage the pump quickly if you don't yeld to doing the air bleed sequence during the fitment process] Hope this helps. Note: Your rack and pinion should be ok if you have no leaks.       The little ticking sound that is driving everyone insane, especially the owner.
      Engines sitting for long periods draining oil out of the lifter into the sump. When the engine fires up, Hydrolic pressure races through to the lifter to make it work. Firstly. get some additives to flush the oil and replace the oil and filter. When you've done that try and see if the tick noise changes. if it does then suggest to maybe look at a slightly thicker oil to take up the slack of the damaged lifter to reduce to tick noise.. You may and usually if the tick noise comes, then lifters need to be changed is the only way... Lifter additives can work but it thickens the oil hense why i suggested look at a thicker oil as a pose to adding additives all the time... Hope it helps.

      @@ahmedalmulla8212 Ya welcome my friend anytime.. Have a look in the book for recommened oils. eg 0w, 5w, 10w ect. if its recommened as example then go for the 10w and try that. Stay within spec and you should be ok without changing the lifters.. it may take a while for it to calm done but hang in there... All the best...

      Yes. Pretty much lots of models uses this same engine. His ml suv engine is on the 06 07 and even the newer model c class. Same engine same problem same intake manifold , same design.

    Hey Kieth thanks for all your help, I had a situation the other day I have a 06 R350 about 130,00 miles I was sitting in park position about 30min then as I drove off a loud continuous beeping noise was going off and a message read drive to workshop without changing gears so I stop and it wouldn't allow me to put in park so I shut the car off and restarted it and the beeping had stop and message was gone and I was able to Put it in park so I drove it for a couple of days no problem but I don't want to further damage something do you know what could be the issue thanks

      Sounds like possible transmission issue. You should have the car scanned. Doki you own the icarsoft scanner?

    I'm going to be installing a JEGS air oil seperator in my r170 230.thats be the same as upgrading the air oil oem seperator eh?

      Don't see the need there my friend. A costly add on for something that's not needed... JEGS Air Oil Separator is designed for vehicles with positive crankcase ventilation systems. This air oil separator prevents oil blow-by from being displaced into the intake tract on engines where crankcase pressure is high, such as high-RPM applications. In other words. Hi powered engines and race track engines.. Too much and faster oil flow has a damaging effect as well to street cars you know... Not useful for street cars and if the addon hose splits its bye bye engine as it will pump oil out at a rate faster than the oil light coming on saying. Hay man, im running out of oil here... A costly expense for you my friend if you go that way... To answer your question... NO its not an upgrade in anyway but a casino machine rolling around $ signs when it goes horribly wrong..

      @@js-amg but its purpose is to separate air / Oil , the fact the engine is high compression doesnt make a difference if the whole purpose is to draw back air from the blowby and through to the intake again. the cycle would continue the same way if not more efficient, as well as negating a poor air/water/oil mixture from drainback? I thought I was onto somthing that would be able to get rid of the ugly OEM one the slk230 has. more wanna put it next to my catch can, but the air/oil seperator is because I dont want to leave it with ONLY a catch can. you see? The Best or Not at all right?

I know you've made your decision already about the JEGS and I know that... 35+ years as a master senior tech and i've seen it all before I just want you to be careful and to not spend money after money thats all and not spend money when its really not needed..       many things could lead to this. It could be a bad brake pedal sensor, drive authorization may be disabled etc. Do you have a scanner (icarsoft)

      @@iRepairAutos No I don't , However when I turn on interior light and try to start car, the light shuts off and does not come back on until I shut it off and turn it on again. COuld it be a bad battery. I don't know how old the battery is, It's an after market battery. Thanks for responding.

    Hello Keith, thanks for all the helpful videos.
    I have two problems with my 2006 ML 350 w164. First, the engine starts with a lot of difficulty - when I turn the key, I have to depress the accelerator and step on it repeatedly before the engine starts. Second, as soon as I change gear to "DRIVE " or ""REVERSE", the engine stalls (shuts down).
    Any advice on how to fix these? Kindly help.

      Hi Henry... MMM doesn't sound too good does it... Ok well the first thing is to check the TPS sensor and the throttle body. When you depress the throttle your telling the PCM the ohms resistance in the TPS has changed to make it start which could suggest an incorrect reading with the TPS. ENGINE OFF Check all the throttle body is clean there, and disconnect the harness at the throttle body and clean it out with contact cleaner and allow to dry out.. check the wiring harness for any signs of damage. Also check the air filters and have a look at the fuel filter as well as they can give the impression of a bad sensor as well and if that fuel filter / air filter is blocked then it can give the similar situation your having... Sometimes depending on where you live in the world, rats and mice can get in the engine bay and chew the wiring harness on the car as the car is dark and warm.. So have a look at the harness all over as well.. The main thing is the car is able to start which is a good thing, but it doesn't start as it should... Its pointing towards a sensor or wiring issue there.. If you can get your hands on a scan tool that would help you and it would give you an area to have a look at and use the live data as you crank the car... Give those things a go. Hope it helps...

      What "harness" are you referring to here? Same "throttle body" harness or some other?
      Second, when I take my feet of the throttle, in "park position", the engine does not stay running while idle. The engine rather stalls and goes off. What could be the reason for this?
      Third, could these problems be caused by a faulty or bad Brain Box ( the main computer situated on top of the engine)?
      Kindly help.

      HENRY OKWUKAMMA Hey Henry. Yeah with the idle nearly stalling that could be a resistance fault to the TPS sensor. But do check the air filter and fuel filter for flow restrictions ect. A low fuel pressure could give a similar issues of stalling ya know... its similar to applying the choke on the old carby cars which did in fact stall and fart ect when it was hot cause people forgot to push the choke off... give it a go and see how ya go..       Henry no I wouldn’t crucify the pcm on the top of the motor.. It’s running ok just not idling well.. usually but not always the first tell tail sign of the top engine PCM is the cooler fan will kick on and won’t turn off even with ENGINE OFF KEY IN HAND. unless ya pull the relay.. That would be an expensive exercise and the PCM would need to be cloned / copied to a new PCM..

    What does it mean when every light come on and off while driving.. like every light.. battery, temperature, exc.. and it jerks while driving and slowing down.. on 2009 E350

      Usually that means the serpentine belt is gone. Please tell me more. All components usually don't fall all at once like that. Did you scan the vehicle? When you pull over and turn the engine off and back on does it start?

      Possible bad earth, dead cell in the battery, if you can’t see any physical signs of issues in the engine bay use a multi meter and check volts at the alt and battery... possible a wiring harness connector fault would give a similar issue.. wiring harness short is also an issue. The exciter diodes in the alternator can cause dash lights to come on all over the place hence why I suggested check the alt volts.

      When I turn it off and on it cranks right back up without a problem.. and it’s not my belt I just put new one on.. my car ran hot because my upper radiator hose popped off on eway going around 75mph I couldn’t put it back on because the rubber oval that helps keep it in place broke and got lost.. it’s like it jerks when pulling off but jerks really bad makes ERK sound when slowing down almost like stopping on a dime

      Dream_Chaser 901 Ok well I didn’t believe it was a belt... have a look at the throttle body to make sure it’s clean. Also check the connector that plugs in to the TPS sensor. Spray some contact cleaner in the plug to clean it out and let it evaporate to dry out. Whilst the car is running wiggle the connector and see if that makes a difference. It seams an intermittent electrical fault to me that’s causing it to make and break a circuit under load and usually that points to plugs or coil pack whilst under load. Make sure you check the volts at the alt and battery with a multi meter. You must do that ok. A low volt will give a false sensor or component that’s at fault. Anything over say 14.1 volt ya cheering and we can dig elsewhere. Also if it ran hot then how hot, and is it possible you’ve cracked a cyl head.. engine compression test and radiator pressure test to confirm ok.. I’m not saying it is but keep it in the back of ya mind.

    Hey Prof, nice work on the Vids.
    I wonder if I could pick your Brain, about a prob. I am having with my Mercedes Benz B200t Radio. The Antenna mast for this car is located on the roof and at the rear of the car.
    When I turn on the Radio, I only get a couple of stations and a lot of static.
    So I took the ceiling off, at the rear and located the Mast. It has a circuit board at the base with two wires connected to the it. One Blue, which was connected to a wire going to the front of the car and the Radio I presume. The other wire, a Red plug, which was soldered to another part the circuit board was just left hanging and not connected to anything. It looked kind of new, like a spare.
    Would you happen to know what the reason for the static and bad reception is? Does this Red plug need to be connected somewhere?
    I tried to isolate the Mast from the body of the car, in case it was grounding out, but it did not improve. Do you know if there is an Antenna amplifier involved?
    I would appreciate any help you could give me.

    Great Chanel!! I have a question. I was driving a 2013 Mercedes ML63 and it was raining very heavy. After I drove down a street with about 10-15 inches of water and now the car is stalling and sputtering. It can start, but loses power after a few minutes. The water never got inside the vehicle and it was for no more that 20-30 seconds... but I don’t want to keep trying to drive it. Any suggestions?

    Hey Keith, I have a two part question about my 2010 E550; #1 is there anything that we can do to save our engines from this? #2 the oil separator on the driver side, there's a whistle sound coming from that hose leading to the mass air but when I detach the hose from the driver side oil separator although the engine idle roughly the whistle noise stops, I put my thumb over the hose to simulate it being plugged back into the (driver side) oil separator and there's that whistling noise again, so my question is could this mean that the driver side oil separator need replaced?

      Yes, also check that hose is plugged into as that seems to be plugged as well.

    Hi there - i have 2007'ML350- 4Matic - check engine light on for few days after light is off , so i checked with Auto Link scanner Car diagnostic code reader showing codes - P2006 $07E8 Generic (Intake manifold runner control stuck closed Bank 1a ) and other code showing with P0015 $07E8 Generic (B Camshaft position Timing over -Retarded Bank 1) - Please tell me how i can fix these code issues from my end - thanks in advance ~ Jeeva

      Sounds like you have a intake manifold issue.
      You can check the obvious, the front black circular, should have 3 of them. Follow the plastic rod, it will be connected to a triangle. See if those moves and if anything is broken there.
      Is there oil residue build up in this area that is encase with dirt?
      Check throttle body, is there oil residues.
      If any of those is yes.
      Then you have a intake manifold project on your hands.
      Go check out his intake manifold replace video to show you all the related parts.

    Holly molly.. that rebreather is clogged as though that part is a 1 way check valve. Which japanese cars has that piece and usually either stuck open or like your video stuck closed.
    Good thing the mercedes part doesn't gets blocked at all. Heh, probably that is the problem... Now all the oil fumes goes into the intake manifold.

      Well, unfortunately, it's going to happen sooner or later. It's how it's design. Until mercedes figure out a way to prevent oil fumes routed back through the intake manifold. An oil catch can comes in mind, but it still routes back to the intake manifold, hence just delaying what's to come. The idea of having it not connected was also discuss, but it will cause air pollution and also the engine will end up showing an error. So another words, we are stuck with it as it is how it's designed.

      Technically, it's a pretty strong engine. Just the little known hickups. If you ensure proper maintenance, then you can prevent the bigger issues.
      The intake manifold is a plague to a long line of mercedes models. As this part seems to be incorporated to the majority of their engines. Then you have a few models that have a sprocket issue, a certain models that has the 7speed transmission related to the conductor plate and the trans bell issue, oil leaks from the pcv vent cover, oil leaks from the cam plugs, sensitive coolant / heat issues. Aside from that, it's pretty much strong. Also, the above items can be prevented if you keep up with the maintenances.

Etc the supply voltage of control unit n2 13 w as weight sensing system is to low. Voltage supply of sensor m12bl hall sensor 1 m12b2 hall sensor 2 short circuit or open circuit. B1od6 fault in can commuiction with control unit sam f. B1001 under voltage supply etc status.9020 fault in can commuiction with control unit n73le1s control unit.9101 fault in can commuiction with control unit n475 esp dps pm and bas control unit. Please help me

      Hey Joy... Ok it suggest theres possible issues with communication there with sensor going off and horn, front signal lights not working... I'd have a look at all the fuses to start with using a test light IGNITION ON. Check all the connection that plug into the fueses at the back and just make sure your happy that everything is solid and connected there... Use contact cleaner to clean the conector plugs behind the fuses as there could be corrosion there.. With scan tools at times one sensor can cause other sensors to say its a fault.. Eg. LHF AND RHF seat belt pretensioner open circuit... When you replace the LHF the RHF works and doesn't show a fault you get what i mean? Scan tool a great, but they can lie to you so dont always take it a gospel unless ya really positive. There are a great guide and they will usually help you narrow things down.... I hope it helps...

      65 40a teleaid sensor. Telephone system sensor out. 56 electronic stability program out. What can I do now . Thank you for helping me.

      Joy Carter Hi Joy... Forgive me are you saying you have blown fuses when you say [out]? If that’s the case and I take it when you checked the fuses you had the IGNITION ON fully just before the initial start... Then replace the fuses 1 at a times... If your still blowing fuses, then You’ve got a short somewhere connected to that circuit, and you’d need to hunt down a wiring diagram for that.
