    After my comments re the hood ( bonnet ) paint restoration, I am absolutely dumbfounded with this job on the wheels with some sisal wheels an solid polishing compound. The end results are absolutely amazing. Kudos to you again for a superb video and I like that you do it in the money concious diy way of things. We dont all own mercedes 500 new but we love own own pride and joys just as much. Look at me I drive ( as I lower my head in shame LOL ) a fiat 500.

    Just thought I help you out at making those projects shine much faster... If you wet sand all the way down to at least 1000 grit (I usually go to 1500 & sometimes even 2000!) you'll reach your final shine much quicker bcuz you'll have already knocked down the peaks left from the coarser sanding grits... So You'll be starting from a much smoother surface with much less to cut.... You can also try putting the wheel on like a "lazy susan" (A turntable) allowing the wheel to spin itself while your buffing & that'll also help i bit more along with ensuring that you can't really burn any wavy spots in from polishing in one spot more than others...
    Good job on explaining everything in your video though.

    F'' in A my friend......you are one forward thinkin' movin' and shakin' positive ..." can do " .....kinda guy. I have been following you for several months now and I am extremely impressed with the solutions that you come up with and the diligence in which you pull these projects off. I have OCD tendencies so the level of detail that you ramp your projects up to leaves me with two thumbs up every time. In my 53 years on this planet there is not a shop that I have taken my cars to that has met my expectations for " any service item " I would give my right arm to be one of your clients because I know you would actually exceed my expectations.
    As for that rim project....I wonder what the cost difference of buying new chrome rims and having you put 5 hours of work into each wheel??? PS......I am also blown away at your knowledge base of so many cleaners/chemicals/techniques..........you should be working for NASA.........seriously.

      Thank you Jim I appreciate all that you are an awesome subscriber and as I mentioned in the video if you do not have to clearcoat strip them and you do not have to sand them which I only did that for the video you can do each wheel in about 20 to 30 minutes that is huge savings when new rims for that car OEM Are about 400 to $600 apiece and they would not shine like that if you got them. Have a great weekend my friend

    That’s insane man.. My father always taught me that cost and worth are two different things. He was wrong. I don’t know what it costs to have you do this, but it’s obviously worth it. Maybe it costs a lot but hey.. Buy once, cry once because the quality of work that you do is the damn standard itself. Even then, it reminds some of us no-nothing-about-car-restoration folks to appreciate the work gone into things like this. Awesome video as usual, Sir..

      @SweetProjectCars  6 лет назад +1

      Justin J some of it is just enjoyment of doing the job yourself and loving to work on cars...for me anyhow..other wise the cost to do was 1/2 of what it would have been for the customer to buy chromed non-OEM wheels which he did not want...thanks so much for sharing it was a please reading your comment, Justin. Mike

    • @MrTheHillfolk
      @MrTheHillfolk 6 лет назад

      Thing is too, this is a DIY project that’s fairly easy with a little elbow grease and looks fantastic on all kinds of oem wheels, and other things.
      For example , I have a 91 Jetta and if you’re familiar they are the same as the early rabbits.
      So I swapped out the black plastic inset in the late door handle for an early metal one, which I polished first.
      Looks bitchin as polished bits around those 90s cars can spice them up.

    Another great video... having driven trucks for over 35 years now I’ve watched guys do tanks & wheels time and time again.. seen a lot of great work.. that wheel looks awesome!.. just to think how the ceramic coating would have helped all those years ago on our trucks... always used wax but they would eventually need touching up.. great to see a face to put with your voice... thanks!... keep up the good work and helpful vids!

    • @SweetProjectCars
      @SweetProjectCars  6 лет назад +1

      Thank you Stephen and I must say we truly appreciate the job you have done driving on the road I know it’s not easy is there a lot of not real smart drivers out there that don’t treat you truckers with the respect you deserve so thank you and thank you for the great comments we truly appreciate that and yes the truck drivers could’ve save themselves a boatload of money with the ceramic coating because basically just power wash the dirt off the wheel and it looks like new again

    I personally don't like polished aluminum but that's a great job.
    The contrasting bead blasted areas are the most interesting.
    Looks sort of porcelain/matte like. I thought it would be polarizing but I like the contrast.

    Back when I used to recondition cockpit panels I used to use a roll of carpet protector plastic. The kind you lay down as a runner to protect from foot traffic. It's got a light tackiness to it that doesn't Bond to anything. And, being plastic it shapes well to Contours. I wonder if this would work as well as the painters tape? It certainly would be cheaper.

    • @SweetProjectCars
      @SweetProjectCars  6 лет назад +2

      It may work really well if you can get it to seal that’s the problem the sandblaster is pretty powerful and it will go underneath even the tape if it’s not adhering good but hey we say give it a try you don’t know till you try thank you for sharing have a great weekend

    Don’t use dishwashing liquid on aluminum. Most dishwashing liquid has lye in it, which eats aluminum. The only dishwashing liquid I know of that does not have Lye in it is Dawn,But use car washing liquid specifically for cars to be safe, and your wheels won’t corrode .Good video

    Let us know how the ceramic coat holds up, and how often you have to re-apply it, especially for a winter tire/wheel, but if you need to re buff the wheel you won't need to strip it again. what's your thoughts to spray on a clear coat? nice Vid BTW!

      Yeah it takes about 30 minutes to do one wheel not bad Really And the tools we already have which are used on every other project we do but if you were to buy all the tools you would need to work on a car all at one time I could put you in the poorhouse LOL

      So true...but I've assembled a good amount of tools over the years, and now that Harbor Freight has opened a store 40 miles from me, I'm able to buy lots of things I've wanted for cheap. I know, I know...they aren't the best tools (junk in many peoples eyes), but when you only use them occasionally, they are fine by me. Every video you post always amazes me...and what you show really DOES work!! Thanks, SWP!! YOU ROCK!!!

    For practical everyday use, after going through all that trouble to polish the aluminium to a mirror shine, I would clearcoat them with the best 2k clearcoat I can find and after the clearcoat has off-gassed, ceramic coat them to lock in the shine.

    That wheel looks amazing, you cannot see how shiny it really is when it is flat on the surface when you are working on it but at the end of the video it is amazing. How long did the wheel take for the polishing part only, not the bead blasting or ceramic coating, just wondering? After the ceramic coating you mention to buff it out, what are you using then to buff it out?
    Thank you for this great video!

    • @SweetProjectCars
      @SweetProjectCars  6 лет назад +4

      It takes about 30 minutes for a wheel that just needs to be buffed and as far as buffing the ceramic coating it’s the same process as we use in all the other videos we’ve done on ceramic coating, you use brand new microfiber towels hope this helps you

    I have been wanting to do a Predator 212cc engine block like this to make it shine like a babies ass is it possible to do this on this type of application considering that the engine's block is so damn rough to begin with???
    Please let me know if this could be done?
    Because the engine is a show bike for the Virginia bike nights out here in Henrico Virginia and it's a collectible miniature motorcycle and I own many of them you can check out one of them that I have on my profile Channel to see what I am talking about it's a 2018 Harley-Davidson© Spirit Mini Bagger it doesn't have the original seat on it because I was trying to at one point convert it to a mini bike but that just didn't make it look right so I had to put the original motorcycle single chopper seat that originally was on it to begin with before!!!!..
    Please let me know if by any chance if I could do a chrome looking on any of my motorcycle engine's?
    Thank you and I love your videos by the way and keep up the good teaching!..
    Sincerely,

    I used to make OEM wheels for most major manufacturers and all our wheels were powdercoated after polish. A quick wash and wax is all that's needed to keep them shiny and looking new for yrs. Once they get the yellow peel then they need to be stripped and republished. Unless they were bead blasted, then they're going to need reworked in order to shine.
