Very nice job on the wheels and the video: straight to the point, no useless bla-bla, very well demonstrated and very well explained. The list of tools and supplies is very complete. I wish all the RUclipsrs would be as efficient than you! Kudos!
Glad you liked it my friend!! Thank you so much for the view and kind comment, it makes all we do worth it, hope you have a fantastic weekend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
After my comments re the hood ( bonnet ) paint restoration, I am absolutely dumbfounded with this job on the wheels with some sisal wheels an solid polishing compound. The end results are absolutely amazing. Kudos to you again for a superb video and I like that you do it in the money concious diy way of things. We dont all own mercedes 500 new but we love own own pride and joys just as much. Look at me I drive ( as I lower my head in shame LOL ) a fiat 500.
big nick thank you so much for the kind and generous comments my friend :) we love to share the easy tricks and tips and the more extensive tips that help a great person save money on their pride and joy:) and no shame in a fiat 500 in any way!
Just thought I help you out at making those projects shine much faster... If you wet sand all the way down to at least 1000 grit (I usually go to 1500 & sometimes even 2000!) you'll reach your final shine much quicker bcuz you'll have already knocked down the peaks left from the coarser sanding grits... So You'll be starting from a much smoother surface with much less to cut.... You can also try putting the wheel on like a "lazy susan" (A turntable) allowing the wheel to spin itself while your buffing & that'll also help i bit more along with ensuring that you can't really burn any wavy spots in from polishing in one spot more than others... Good job on explaining everything in your video though.
The guy that owns this car had to be doing back flips when he picked up this car between what you did to the wheels and the paint both on it.fantastic job you did
Mike, YOU are INCREDIBLE ! Part 1 and 2 with this Mercedes is "jaw dropping" with the BEFORE and AFTER, YOU continue to amaze me with your knowledge and teaching skills. Thank YOU for everything YOU share with this subscriber community, YOU are the BEST !
Your words are very kind and it means a lot to us we appreciate that. it takes hours to do a video and hours to edit one and when we get comments like yours it makes it all worth it thank you very much and have a great day my friend
Amazing, I was never aware that this could be done. I had a 73 Corvette and the paint looked like the Benz sure would have saved me some money. Great job!
F'' in A my friend......you are one forward thinkin' movin' and shakin' positive ..." can do " .....kinda guy. I have been following you for several months now and I am extremely impressed with the solutions that you come up with and the diligence in which you pull these projects off. I have OCD tendencies so the level of detail that you ramp your projects up to leaves me with two thumbs up every time. In my 53 years on this planet there is not a shop that I have taken my cars to that has met my expectations for " any service item " I would give my right arm to be one of your clients because I know you would actually exceed my expectations. As for that rim project....I wonder what the cost difference of buying new chrome rims and having you put 5 hours of work into each wheel??? PS......I am also blown away at your knowledge base of so many cleaners/chemicals/techniques..........you should be working for NASA.........seriously.
Thank you Jim I appreciate all that you are an awesome subscriber and as I mentioned in the video if you do not have to clearcoat strip them and you do not have to sand them which I only did that for the video you can do each wheel in about 20 to 30 minutes that is huge savings when new rims for that car OEM Are about 400 to $600 apiece and they would not shine like that if you got them. Have a great weekend my friend
"shut up and take my money!!".. Beautiful job man. Absolutely amazing. I think my Monte Carlo is gonna love me after this. (BTW, you just got a follower for life).
You are a true auto McGyver. The first vids of yours I saw were the red interior leather dying vid and the Lincoln rim restoration and you are still freaking wowing me my man. Forget Jack of all trades auto, but more like Master of all things auto. Thanks again, the chrome finish looks sweeeet!😁🙌👍
You very much for those great comments we truly appreciate it it takes a lot of hours to do just one video and it’s well worth it when we get comments like this have a great weekend
This is awesome! I did this to my '81 Shovelhead with a Dremel tool! Everything was crinkle black paint. Swore I'd never do it again! After watching this I don't think it would be so bad to take on another one. THANKS!
Awesome! Wish this would work on my chrome wheels off my 95 vette. The previous owner neglected them severely. This was an amazing transformation in the Mercedes wheels!
Reminds e when I used to shine up my motorcycle engine ali. A lot of work, but well worth it in the end. What a fantastic result you've achieved. As ever, many thanks for showing us the way.
That’s insane man.. My father always taught me that cost and worth are two different things. He was wrong. I don’t know what it costs to have you do this, but it’s obviously worth it. Maybe it costs a lot but hey.. Buy once, cry once because the quality of work that you do is the damn standard itself. Even then, it reminds some of us no-nothing-about-car-restoration folks to appreciate the work gone into things like this. Awesome video as usual, Sir..
Justin J some of it is just enjoyment of doing the job yourself and loving to work on cars...for me anyhow..other wise the cost to do was 1/2 of what it would have been for the customer to buy chromed non-OEM wheels which he did not want...thanks so much for sharing it was a please reading your comment, Justin. Thing is too, this is a DIY project that’s fairly easy with a little elbow grease and looks fantastic on all kinds of oem wheels, and other things. So I swapped out the black plastic inset in the late door handle for an early metal one, which I polished first. Looks bitchin as polished bits around those 90s cars can spice them up.
Great tip about ceramic coating polished aluminum! Have always been on the lookout for something that works... Wax doesn't last, clear coat flakes off (no bite because it's polished)... but ceramic coating... brilliant! thanks!
Another great video... having driven trucks for over 35 years now I’ve watched guys do tanks & wheels time and time again.. seen a lot of great work.. that wheel looks awesome!.. just to think how the ceramic coating would have helped all those years ago on our trucks... always used wax but they would eventually need touching up.. great to see a face to put with your voice... thanks!... keep up the good work and helpful vids!
Thank you Stephen and I must say we truly appreciate the job you have done driving on the road I know it’s not easy is there a lot of not real smart drivers out there that don’t treat you truckers with the respect you deserve so thank you and thank you for the great comments we truly appreciate that and yes the truck drivers could’ve save themselves a boatload of money with the ceramic coating because basically just power wash the dirt off the wheel and it looks like new again

My Friends of Sweet Project Cars, here is the promised extensive video on how to make your Aluminum wheels look like chrome and keep them that way. We know this may not be something you may ever do, but it is great info. on how to do many other things on your vehicle or related project.
This is off-subject. But I heard that adding ATF to a crankcase is good for cleaning the engine internals. Ever heard of that? I trust and respect your opinion. Thank you!
I personally don't like polished aluminum but that's a great job. The contrasting bead blasted areas are the most interesting. Looks sort of porcelain/matte like. I thought it would be polarizing but I like the contrast. Definitely a great idea that I'll keep in mind.
Thank you Joel! Cheers! It absolutely does just make sure you use the exact products we use. Glad to have you here with us. Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Unbelievable. If only I knew this 10 years ago! It's better than the chrome bc no added weight and it can't be chipped off and get water under it and bubble up!
Looks amazing, and the best part you did it all in the video not just a before and after like other people.... thank you for putting a list of the tools you used
Thank you titan if you look for the video prior to this one on the same car we did a hood and it was horrible came out pretty nice take a look at that Have a great night my friend
To late lol. You’ll be hearing from my lawyers. I had one good eye left from the hood. Now I’m pretty much completely blind. Amazing work brother. Wish I had the patience to do this kind of work lol.
Thank you Andre guess it takes a while to learn the ropes in pretty much everything you do in life thank you Very much for being a fantastic subscriber
Back when I used to recondition cockpit panels I used to use a roll of carpet protector plastic. The kind you lay down as a runner to protect from foot traffic. It's got a light tackiness to it that doesn't Bond to anything. And, being plastic it shapes well to Contours. I wonder if this would work as well as the painters tape? It certainly would be cheaper.
It may work really well if you can get it to seal that’s the problem the sandblaster is pretty powerful and it will go underneath even the tape if it’s not adhering good but hey we say give it a try you don’t know till you try thank you for sharing have a great weekend

Thanks for watching. mad Mike the hammer SPC
That was absolutely unbelievable!!! Best rim restoration video I’ve seen yet!! Are you doing a full detail on that car? Headlight lens restoration in its future?? Would love to see the full car when you are done with it!! Fantastic work!!!!
Don’t use dishwashing liquid on aluminum. Most dishwashing liquid has lye in it, which eats aluminum. The only dishwashing liquid I know of that does not have Lye in it is Dawn,But use car washing liquid specifically for cars to be safe, and your wheels won’t corrode .Good video
Let us know how the ceramic coat holds up, and how often you have to re-apply it, especially for a winter tire/wheel, but if you need to re buff the wheel you won't need to strip it again. what's your thoughts to spray on a clear coat? nice Vid BTW!
Hello Fredrick, to get the results shown, use this amzn.to/2C18A9Z but you can do whatever you want to do. Thanks again for watching, hope your day is the best. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Yeah it takes about 30 minutes to do one wheel not bad Really And the tools we already have which are used on every other project we do but if you were to buy all the tools you would need to work on a car all at one time I could put you in the poorhouse LOL
So true...but I've assembled a good amount of tools over the years, and now that Harbor Freight has opened a store 40 miles from me, I'm able to buy lots of things I've wanted for cheap. I know, I know...they aren't the best tools (junk in many peoples eyes), but when you only use them occasionally, they are fine by me. Every video you post always amazes me...and what you show really DOES work!! Thanks, SWP!! YOU ROCK!!!
Thank you my dear it was but I guess it’s in your blood keep things looking nice and bring things back from the dead I knew those wheels could look gorgeous again I guess it’s just the restoring nature in me have a great night
For practical everyday use, after going through all that trouble to polish the aluminium to a mirror shine, I would clearcoat them with the best 2k clearcoat I can find and after the clearcoat has off-gassed, ceramic coat them to lock in the shine.
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!! Mike,,, I honestly believe that you could polish a turd and make it shine a million bucks!!! 😂😂😂LMBO!! Now I know how what's it's going to take to polish up the wheels on my truck! Thanks for sharing my brother and God Bless you always!!! ☆JAY☆
Oh I polished a few turds LOL oh I’m sorry I was talking about cars that have come in looking like a turd💩💩💩 thanks Jay for being here with my friend It is a pleasure have a great weekend
Haha. Which one ya think was restored, this one, orrrrr..."THIS ONE!" I think i'm going with... "THIS ONE!" Great job SPC's. Ex tutorial as well. Don't know how y'all do it. You've got to run out of training/tutorials one day(I assume), but, keep em comin' if y'all can!! Thx for your time.
Dont be soooo one sided .my friends .the tools that go bye the stripers are hardly unstained ....lets be kind .and funny in other ways .women like to watch this stuff also .kind of closed minded joke
Thanks. Great video. I'm hoping to find someone that will watch ur video. And make my rims look like these. Today I'm buying a 2003 Mitsubishi convertible spyder. This would make my rims look awesome.
That wheel looks amazing, you cannot see how shiny it really is when it is flat on the surface when you are working on it but at the end of the video it is amazing. How long did the wheel take for the polishing part only, not the bead blasting or ceramic coating, just wondering? After the ceramic coating you mention to buff it out, what are you using then to buff it out? Thank you for this great video!
It takes about 30 minutes for a wheel that just needs to be buffed and as far as buffing the ceramic coating it’s the same process as we use in all the other videos we’ve done on ceramic coating, you use brand new microfiber towels hope this helps you
It all depends on how bad they are, Temo, it can go from $150.00 per rim to $500.00. Thanks for watching and asking, have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Leonardokite we love sharing and not spamming like so many others do...yes we share the tools we use but that was only because so many asked what we used and wanted to know how and where to get them :)
Great job and great tip sir...was having similar problem on the roof top of my skoda.Used 3M rubbing compound and Meguires dual action to no avail....with your tip have to go back to the drawing board and use you method this time...thank you once again for the demo and great tip
I used to make OEM wheels for most major manufacturers and all our wheels were powdercoated after polish. A quick wash and wax is all that's needed to keep them shiny and looking new for yrs. Once they get the yellow peel then they need to be stripped and republished. Unless they were bead blasted, then they're going to need reworked in order to shine.
Glad you liked it Dave! Thank you so much for watching and for the comment, hope you have a great weekend. Happy New Year my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC

Thank you very much and on your 95 vette I would just buy some really cool wheels for it and then ceramic coat them so they never have an issue
Unbelievable job you did on these, better finish than the factory!

Thing is too, this is a DIY project that’s fairly easy with a little elbow grease and looks fantastic on all kinds of oem wheels, and other things.
For example , I have a 91 Jetta and if you’re familiar they are the same as the early rabbits.
So I swapped out the black plastic inset in the late door handle for an early metal one, which I polished first.
Looks bitchin as polished bits around those 90s cars can spice them up.
Nice work!!!!!!!!!!!! As a former body, frame, paint n custom guy from back in the 70's, 80's & 90's, I know the work involved! You do great work!
Thank you very much my friend that means a lot to us

Hey, so I don't fully understand what's going on - can you sand and polish ANY aluminum and make it shine like chrome?
No Name this is what we used amzn.to/2iHMxx1
Fire And Mugs yes you can sand and polish most all aluminum per this video and make it shine like chrome :)
Wow, that is awesome and good to know. Thanks for the sweeeeet reply!
Thank you very much for watching and commenting, we appreciate it Eamonn. Hope you have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC

Haha. The centre cap looks dull in comparison to the finished product! Absolutely amazing work done!!
Aashiq Hansrajh I have this center caps I ordered metal shiny ones at EEuro auto parts

Oh..... WOW.... THAT'S AMAZING 👍👍👍I have a 04' Tahoe and I'm definitely going to do this with my factory rims.... Thanks for the education ✌😎👍

You gotta keep polishing like every 3 months
using a polished wheel without clear coat for winter is just stupidity
That looks awesome, again you have created a masterpiece, indistinguishable from factory chrome wheels, well done 👍 x.
Thank you Katie that means a lot to us have a great night
Gorgeous!! You're very talented.
Also, can I use my blue magic instead of the mothers/never dull? Read the never dull micro scratches? Appreciate the invested time man!
Hello Fredrick, to get the results shown, use this amzn.to/2C18A9Z but you can do whatever you want to do. Thanks again for watching, hope your day is the best. mad Mike the hammer SPC
amazing detailed work on that rim ! is most excellent !!
awsome video !!
My mind is blown on most of your videos!! Thank you
thank you Tammy....mike SPC
That's a work of art.
Thank you Richard we truly appreciate that my friend
Wow...what a whole lot of work and tools....but it sure is cheaper than new wheels. GREAT job once again! :)
YOU ROCK!!!
Roger I'm with you-you buy what you can afford and and for the amount of use they will get thanks for sharing your great comment my friend :)
A lot of work but fantastic results! Nice job :)
4G12 thanks for sharing my friend.
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!! Mike,,, I honestly believe that you could polish a turd and make it shine a million bucks!!! 😂😂😂LMBO!!

Dont be soooo one sided .my friends .the tools that go bye the stripers are hardly unstained ....lets be kind .and funny in other ways .women like to watch this stuff also .kind of closed minded joke
I used to work on a strippers car her tag # 2 NASTY
Thanks. Great video. I'm hoping to find someone that will watch ur video. And make my rims look like these. Today I'm buying a 2003 Mitsubishi convertible spyder. This would make my rims look awesome.
Eliz May B Griffintwo it surely would make them look awesome: ) you can do it its not that hard my friend :)
It takes about 30 minutes for a wheel that just needs to be buffed and as far as buffing the ceramic coating it’s the same process as we use in all the other videos we’ve done on ceramic coating, you use brand new microfiber towels hope this helps you
Hi there...Mercedes Benz company will get crazy about this resalt..........good job man.......thank you......................👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you Arrow we truly appreciate that my friend
You use that Mag and Alum polish for basically everything lol...
You find something that works and it’s affordable for the DIYer you are very correct no sense reinventing the wheel have a great weekend
Beautiful job. This is a lot of work. What do you charge to do a set of 4 MB rims?
It all depends on how bad they are, Temo, it can go from $150.00 per rim to $500.00. Thanks for watching and asking, have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
I have been wanting to do a Predator 212cc engine block like this to make it shine like a babies ass is it possible to do this on this type of application considering that the engine's block is so damn rough to begin with???
Please let me know if this could be done?
Because the engine is a show bike for the Virginia bike nights out here in Henrico Virginia and it's a collectible miniature motorcycle and I own many of them you can check out one of them that I have on my profile Channel to see what I am talking about it's a 2018 Harley-Davidson© Spirit Mini Bagger it doesn't have the original seat on it because I was trying to at one point convert it to a mini bike but that just didn't make it look right so I had to put the original motorcycle single chopper seat that originally was on it to begin with before!!!!..
Please let me know if by any chance if I could do a chrome looking on any of my motorcycle engine's?
Thank you and I love your videos by the way and keep up the good teaching!..
Sincerely,
Joejava☕

I tried using mothers on my wheels but sister worked best
Which one I like? The original non glossy finish. But that's just my preference, nothing wrong with the job you did!
Thanks for watching, have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
4 years late to this video and I have to say this is amazing work!
Glad you enjoyed it Gabe! Thank you so much for watching and sharing, hope you have a great week my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
OmG! The of the best videos I've seen! Very Nice Indeed!!
Glad you liked it Dave! Thank you so much for watching and for the comment, hope you have a great weekend. Happy New Year my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
