      @@jinz0 He must've learned english around the 1940's and 50's, when the accent in vogue was the Transatlantic accent.

    The true aristocrats of the soul feel the explosive intensity of Mishima, and the solemn melancholy of Dazai all at the same time.
    Two of the very, VERY few authors of worth to come out of the 20th century.

    It’s funny how words he chooses for recollection of the encounter is perfectly the same in both languages (like ‘dirty tatami’ is for him a personal attack towards Dazai’s pseudo-proletariat self image…) he really hated it lol

    三島は太宰の正面の席に導かれ、彼が時々思い出したように上機嫌で語るアフォリズムめいた文学談に真剣に耳を傾けていた。そして三島は森鷗外についての意見を求めるが、太宰は、「そりゃ、おめえ、森鴎外なんて小説家じゃねえよ。第一、全集に載っけている写真を見てみろよ。軍服姿の写真を堂々と撮させていらあ、何だい、ありゃ……」と太宰流の韜晦を込めて言った。
    下戸の三島は「どこが悪いのか」と改まった表情で真面目に反論して鴎外論を展開するが、酔っぱらっていた太宰はまともに取り合わず、両者の会話は噛み合わなかった。その酒宴に漂う〈絶望讃美〉の〈甘ったれた〉空気、太宰を司祭として〈自分たちが時代病を代表してゐるといふ自負に充ちた〉馴れ合いの雰囲気を感じていた三島は、この席で明言しようと決めていた〈僕は太宰さんの文学はきらいなんです〉という言葉をその時に発した。
    これに対して太宰は虚を衝かれたような表情をし、「きらいなら、来なけりゃいいじゃねえか」と顔をそむけた後、誰に言うともなく、「そんなことを言ったって、こうして来てるんだから、やっぱり好きなんだよな。なあ、やっぱり好きなんだ」と言った。気まずくなった三島はその場を離れ、それが太宰との一度きりの対決となった。

      「鴎外なんて小説家じゃない」と太宰が言ったと。これは知りませんでした。太宰は漱石なんかより圧倒的に「鴎外推し」のはずでしたが。これも太宰一流の「韜晦」だったんでしょうかね。
