As a boxing and as a fan of Hagler, thank you for making this video.. I always thought Hagler got short end of the deal.. he won bc I always thought he landed the most punches and this video shows it.. respect!!
I always tell my father before that Hagler won the fight and we will get into argument, now I will show this punch count to him when I have the chance.
Plus the agressor and he was making the fight too but Leonard getting the nod over Hagler ain't the same as the decisions Floyd has had or Jeff Horn over Manny fouling like crazy down to Arum wanting as many made boxing names b4 Manny's contract ran out.

Hagler won around 5 or 6 rounds clearly, while Leonard won only like 2. The rest were close rounds that probably should have gone to the champ and aggressor Hagler. Same as GGG vs. Canelo. They gave all the close rounds to the challenger Canelo. But huge respect to Sugar Ray for coming out of retirement to face arguably the best middleweight of all time. No tune up fights.
Hagler won - it's not aggression but 'effective aggression' that is required and Hagler showed he was more effective...
If all other things are equal (punches landed, damage dealt, etc.) the round goes to the aggressor, the one who controlled the center of the ring and forced the action.

Hagler was raw, an unrelenting pressure fighter with dynamite in both hands. He was the best out of the four kings of boxing from that era.
I think Duran was a more complete fighter maybe, he relied less on his chin. But I really am not sure, both are excellent ATGs.

Of course the most difficult thing is to distinguish the EFFECTIVE punches from merely "landing".

its really amazing how often the judges dont see body work..and in fighting..they miss that stuff a lot...boxing needs to have play back like in football and the juges need more time to judge the fight...they need to see the fight more than once to give a good score

I remember Hagler gave in to so many of SRL’s demands in exchange for a career high payday. Had this been a 15 rounder, Hagler would’ve definitively won but as it happened it was a very close fight. Good video.

Hagler is my all-time favorite fighter. As a kid, I remember this fight clearly and thinking he was robbed. All them flurries by Leonard was to tip the judges even more.

I haven't watched ur video yet, but Im excited B/C my thoughts back then was Hagler was robbed.
Not entirely how i remembered, but pretty damn close, SRL was not stoppin Hagler and he'd flury in spurts doing no damage, (and as this video displayed not many of the fluries landing)....Hagler never returned to the ring and it's a shame be he's an all time great MW if not the best.

Finally, someone with the patience and integrity to actually go thru this fight in slow motion to evaluate which were scoring punches and guess what? Marvin really DID win!!! Yes, he was shot and nothing like a young Hagler but based on what we see here, he won almost all the rounds

I went and watched this fight after years of hearing about it, didn't disappoint. I don't have a horse in the race but watching it live I thought Sugar slightly outboxed Marvelous. However I saw the case for Hagler and didn't think it was an all time robbery like when Roy got robbed of his rightful gold medal. Regardless it was an amazing fight. Two warriors going at it for 12 rounds.

I'm not surprised at all the comments claiming that Hagler won. After all, you're watching an edited video that isn't showing you the entire fight, and none of you have the brains to recognize that. You've been fed a plateful of deception, and you swallowed it hook, line, and sinker. A 12 round fight with no breaks is 36 minutes long, and this video is only 15 minutes. Hello ??? You've only been shown HALF of the fight !!!

The reality check is Sugar Ray Leonard won because he outclassed Hagler, did a better job, and landed more punches. According to the rules of boxing: You can't hold your opponent and hit him at the same time, or duck so low that your head is below your opponent's belt line.
This is not the olympics. In professional boxing it’s judged off of a 10 point must. Each individual round is measured individually. So you could have 100 punches land in a round win that round, lose the next two toma boxer that lands 20 each round. Unless you were awarded a 10-8 round, your behind on the scorecards. Facts. Hagler gave away the first 4 rounds, then ray way 3 of next 8 in my book and pulled out a easy tomcall decision.

In compubox says that Leonard landed 306 of 629 punches , and Hagler 291 of 792 only 15 punches of diference BUT Hagler misses more punches , BUT he was the Champion I think a Draw should have been perfect
Because if the judge gave the fight for Hagler , a lot of people for manny years would say that Leonard won That fight & the champion was outboxed by a man that was 3 years out of the sport and bla bla ...this is the beautiful thing of boxing everybody sees a diferent result in a close fight , the polemic is what make boxing so interesting

Leonard won easily. All Hagler was doing is landing weak punches in the clinch
One of those “slaps” would knock you sparko! Its called boxing. Watch the toe to toes, Leonard keeps his cool, keeps his eyes open the whole time...never takes his eyes off his opponent...controls the fight, while Hagler keeps his head down in the hope of landing. Leonard knew exactly what he was doing and it was an amazing thing to watch. Hagler got a boxing lesson that night. Hagler was quite literally the sore loser...due mostly to all those “slaps” he was receiving...! Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee...hmm I’m pretty sure it was a fairly respected boxer said that didn’t they...! 😂

This Artoria video also has edited out much more of Ray Leonard’s flurries ( which always score points) and by calling his shots “ slaps” comes across as not only biased, but also very menial and stupid!
I’m a big admirer of Marvin Hagler but feel he could have given Ray Leonard a bit more credit than he did do ? Ray Leonard tactics were absolutely spot on during the fight, and there’s no denying that.
