After watching the movie "the founder", I will never buy another McDonalds again. The way Ray Kroc screwed the Mcdonalds brothers is quite horrible and i dislike their politics too. There's plenty of good food out there and there's no need to buy Mcdonalds.
Alan & Shannon, thank you for sharing your travels. I followed your journey thru China and enjoyed it. Thank you for aquainainted me with Scottish accent and now I’m addicted😂 Way too go 加油! BTW was McDonald a sponsor of this episode? Lol… Your Great Wall episode was fantastic!
China McDonals offers 1+1 combo, you can select one buger/fired-chicken/Chips/little ice cream plus one drink/pie, only cost 13.9 RMB, less than USD2. Really great budget for students and workers. That's most popular combo in China McDonals menu.
In Australia we had burger king and hungry jacks at the same time. Both are similar but burger king is American and hungry jacks is Australian. And eventually burger king closed down in Sydney (not sure about other Australian states that might have burger king) and RECENTLY we had TACO BELL slowly coming back too!!! After many years since bankruptcy (I can't remember when I was still in school when they got bankrupt) but now we have KFC competitors like Korean fried chicken, broadster chicken, chicken express, even Red Rooster (we have roasted chicken in that food outlet). The competition is very fierce especially in the food chain!!! And your chicken Royale you mentioned as grilled chicken... At our hungry jacks in Sydney we used to have the best grilled chicken burger...(they used different buns back then) that was SOOO flavoursome but now they plummeted to the normal sesame buns. And their chicken Royale is like McDonald's McChicken burger.. We have this motto from advertisements saying "the burgers are better at hungry jacks" lol. It was true back then when they first started and now years gone by they kind of plummeted. (Wasn't as good as before that's what I mean) but of course still yummy though, just not as good as before.
So if u guys decide to spend Chinese new year in Canton, I highly suggest u guys stay in guangzhou instead of shenzhen. Check out those “花市” which literally means “flower market” in guangzhou , that will brings u like a very traditional Chinese vibe while staying.
Hi guys, love the China series. I enjoy your outsiders look at China. I'm not sure if you are still in China or not, but I am super interested in the community and people aspect of China. Maybe spend an evening line dancing with the old ladies outside or just hanging out at the local gathering spots at night. I'm curious to see if those places are active during the winter months.
McDonalds in China are always creative, every a couples of months, something new is coming out. While I used to lived in the US for 6 years, the McDonalds menu never changed...
IKEA restaurants in Chengdu even offer “bowl bowl chicken”(钵钵鸡)(pronounce as “bo bo g”) Bowl bowl chicken is not just chicken, but more of a variety of other meat and vegetable ingredients that are cooked, then threaded on bamboo skewers and soaked in chili oil
I find it very interesting to watch your videos on McDonald’s. I mean I always compare the KFC, McDonald’s in different countries myself as well since they are literally everywhere! Good content!
Greetings from Edinburgh, I watched a few of your vlogs and my word you are both really toughies and brave all foods …even though I was born uk but originate from Pakistan I was amazed at the way you eat all and get into everything ..even I’m picky and moany if I holiday there..😅
The crispy fries (China exclusive?) are the greatest item on the Chinese McDonald’s menu, I wish they had them here in the west. The coffee is great too, weird fact, the thin plastic strip that is used to stir the coffee is actually a double straw, I saw people using the straw to drink hot coffee? 🤔
Hi guys thanks for making this video, it’s really great that you guys had enjoyed so much in Beijing, can I ask you guys a question? Did you managed to registered on “DiDi” the car hiring apps, or how do you move around most of the time in China..thanks and look forward to your reply! Cheers !
One thing I like about McDonalds is that they are more on the standard side. When I went to the US I tried the KFC there and it was completely different, didn't like it TBH. But McDonalds was always the same McDonalds. Wierdly, felt like home (quite ironic considering I live in China)🤣
You sure make McDonald burgers more delicious than I can remember. I haven't eaten a McDonald burger for a long time. May be China McDonalds use different source for beef than American McDonalds.
Welcome to my hometown Guangzhou thought with the worst weather. But maybe it's not a bad thing, cold make the best time for Dim sum、Chaoshan beef hot pot、Sauerkraut fish、Roast pigeon、Roast goose、Stew Soups、Stew Desserts、Pot rices、Coconut Chicken、Rice powder、Fresh shrimp wonton noodles…
As a Chinese and a huge fan of burgers, I go to McDonald’s and order the Big Mac for 99.99% of the time. The German double sausage burger is my least favorite to be honest. I love juicy burgers with loads of sauce. I don’t know if any of you guys know Triple O’s from Vancouver. I study there for several years and literally fall in love with Triple O’s burgers. They are so so juicy. They are packed with different kinds of sauce. And beef patty is not that thin as in McDonald. They go so well with thick cut fries and a cup of Canada Dry ginger ale!
In China, KFC definitely stands out amongst all the western fast food brands. It does an awesome job localizing the flavors and hybridizing local food with original recipes. In fact, eating KFC was a big thrill for me when I was little. I believe many Chinese people in my generation who grew up in cities share the same emotion towards KFC.
I think you missed one, there's now a new Crispy Chicken Big Mac with cheese. It's relatively recent and is avialable in our local McDonalds near Shanghai as recently as last Monday January 15th. It was OK, but nothing to write home about 😉😉
Most of those burgers are not available in the US. The sweet and sour sauce usually goes with the chicken nuggets in the US - we do not have curry sauce either.
Well we do have sweet and sour sauce, it’s available for nuggets too, but I found Shanon and Alan mismatched their sauce, Shanon matched her nuggets with ketchup , Alan matched his fries with curry sauce, that should’ve been opposite 😂 nvm, that's ok, it might be too much food and staff combined them all together, you know
The Grilled Chiken sandwich is the best one! It has become more expensive:( originally, it was 12 Yuan($1.6), but now it's 24($3.3). Also, it's a bit smaller than before. However, it remains my favorite item at McDonald's in China. In my opinion, KFC and McDonald's in China are the best KFC and McDonald's in the world because of their unique menus!
Moreover, both McDonald's and KFC in China have their own unique sauces (though you need to ask the staff for them, they are complimentary and very delicious) such as Sweet ‘N Sour Sauce,Creamy Ranch Sauce, Spicy Buffalo,Habanero Ranch Sauce,Big Mac Sauce,Tartar Sauce,Honey Mustard Sauce,Sichuan chili Sause and else.
The first sausage burger looks just the like morning breakfast platter sausage added to a burger I would have expected a lot of different sauces for the nuggets in China surprised none
in morning we also have Mcdonlad breakfast which is totally localized, but as many comments says KFC do better, I ate Chinese noodles in Wuhan KFC everyday...
One thing about the price is that cost of living is way lower in China than in the UK, so 4 pounds for a meal is not that low, especially for fast food. Mcdonalds is more of a novelty in China rather than a cheap food joint since cheap food would be 1-pound meals from street stalls.
I think McDonalds used to be considered a novelty food in China, but its pretty much accepted as just another food choice - at least in the bigger cities. The quality seems to be higher as well, probably due to competition with the insane number/variety of restaurants in China.
As of September 2023, there are 5,582 McDonald's restaurants in China. Therefore, McDonald's is really not a novelty in China, but a cheap food for ordinary Chinese people.
McDonalds is a cheap food joint in tier-1 or 2 cities like Shanghai, Beijing,Hangzhou. However, China is a mega country, different cities have different economic level, in some small cities it is still not that cheap compare to their price level.
McDonald's is the cheapest and most common food in Beijing and Shanghai. It is also the same in other first-tier cities in China. McDonald's has thousands of stores in China! It’s just that most Chinese don’t think McDonald’s is a healthy food but Not novel in China
You really need to try Chinese KFC Allen. It’s fancy food comparing KFCs anywhere outside China. Completely different world. My both kids were born and raised in Australia, when we go back to China they can’t eat enough Chinese KFC while in Melbourne they never want to touch KFC
KFC does much better than McDonald's in China. Not only is the variety more varied, the taste is better, the price is cheaper, and the popularity is much higher than McDonald's.

In China, KFC is doing the best localization, there are many completely different menus from overseas, only in China.😂
因为肯德基的主打产品原味炸鸡中国人基本不爱吃
yeah~Chinese KFC is different from other countries‘,so so delicious
After watching the movie "the founder", I will never buy another McDonalds again. The way Ray Kroc screwed the Mcdonalds brothers is quite horrible and i dislike their politics too. There's plenty of good food out there and there's no need to buy Mcdonalds.
recommend egg tarts in KFC in Chia!
And Pizzahut, which are all local fast food brands of Yum! Brands (China), are different from Pizzahut and KFC in other countries
KFC in China is way more localized than McDonald’s, if you are looking for Chinese twists, that’s where you should go
是的,肯德基更好
You guys should go to try the China KFC menu, that would suprise you indeed, especially the breakfast menu.

Yep Australian McDonald taste like sh*t.
其实直接在店里买价格还是比较贵,我通常在网上买汉堡王的优惠券,皇堡一个只要10RMB,冰淇淋2RMB。

Amazing video! I enjoy watching it so much!
I think the sweet and sour sauce is the dip for nugget but not go with the fries
Ohhhh my gosh you guys, my stomach is beginning to hurt just by watching you wolf down all this McD's food - ouch! Keep up the great vlogs! 👍

How did you two finish those menus?
i really like that strawless lid. at least the way it looks to me. i wish that were more common.
Love the sweet curry sauce too! Those go with nuggets best though.
I used to live in leeds for a year, till this day i remember how bad McDonald’s in uk, simply the worst they were not freshly making the burgers. 😂

Broadster chicken, chicken express, and even Korean fried chicken wings at Korean restaurants, absolutely BEATS KFC ANYDAY

Fast food in China usually have different menus for breakfast and other meals. Idea for your next video.😉
Grilled Chicken Sandwich and McSpicy are among the most popular McDonald's burgers in China. And I actually like the German Sausage burger myself.
Double cheese burger + small drink = 13 RMB = 1.4 British Pound, saved my day again and again🤤
food for thought: most American fastfood testing menus are located in hong kong...

The patties in U.S are flavorless at McDonalds, and it have gotten worse over the years. Probably the speed feeding using corn in U.S. is the reason.
