The connection with Britain is such a core part of her identity as a Unionist and a Protestant that the idea of a united Ireland is unthinkable. She would also feel that Sinn Fein/IRA would have "won" and her side "lost" which would be very bitter. The DUP affirm her identity, and "protect" her from the nationalists, which is why she supports them. She may have left wing economic views, but to a unionist the union will always come first as it is central to their identity

They're afraid of splitting the unionist vote. If there's DUP against TUV against UUP against Sinn Fein and the unionists spread their votes then they fear SF will get it. It's quite sad actuality. But that only applies to the Westminster elections, not to the Assembly elections which use proportional representation. In that case I guess a lack of education about how PR works is the answer.
Here is one of the catch 22’s of NI. Who else can she as a prod vote for? One of the reasons I left NI is the DUP - they are fundamentalist christians who want the people there to live by their standards, but not their double standards. The DUP are corrupt and have only ever been interested in power and maintaining that power. It’s a wonderful place and the people there are great but the political landscape is often the lowest common denominator.
