    I can’t wait to see your video on using the titanium fry pan. I have a lot of experience and tricks/tips, but look forward to potentially learning new techniques from you and possibly sharing new ideas in the comments.

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  2 года назад

      I am interested in hearing what tips you have. So far, using my best techniques I have been able to fry an egg omelet over a wood stove without sticking. Thanks for commenting

    • @andymytys
      @andymytys 2 года назад

      @@MarkYoungBushcraft a wood stove is nice as most have a larger base, where the heat is coming from to meet the pot/pan and more evenly distributed, rather than say a canister stove, where the flame is concentrated in a small area. Cooking over hot coals is easiest.
      Canister stoves can make things very challenging for ti cooking, as a hot spot develops that quickly burns food. Yet for people out on multi-day trips, where good weather can’t be counted on, making the decision to go with a wood stove can mean starting a fire becomes the challenge.
      You had the right idea when you mentioned a heat diffuser in your video. Even with that, there may be a bit of a “lift and shuffle” dance with the fry pan.
      Overall, I use the fry pan in my cooking to bring meals together. Dry out the goop from a pot, or thickening sauces.
      Think cooking rice and rehydrating veggies in the rice cooker, but transferring it to the fry pan, along with oil, rehydrated powdered eggs, and soy sauce to make fried rice.
      Or cooking noodles on the side and adding them on a few pieces of butter in the fry pan, plus grated cheese and pepper, to make an Alfredo, topping it off with chicken from a pouch and parsley.
      Or rehydrating tomato powder and shiitake mushrooms, cutting up some sausage (pepperoni, salami, chorizo, etc.), and some fresh bell peppers. Frying up the sausage in the fry pan, then putting the tomato paste on a tortilla, adding the bell pepper, mushroom, and sausage on top, topping with your favorite cheese shavings, and putting to tortilla in the fry pan, to fry up in the oil from the sausage. Then folding the tortilla over when almost done to let everything melt together, finishing in a sort of trail calzone.
      Modify the ideas above for keto dishes.

    Another video I’m looking forward to is that rice/pressure cooker. Cooking rice, and not instant, “Uncle Ben’s,” but rice that needs 10+ minutes on the heat, in titanium is challenging and, if not done correctly, is a sure way to burn rice on the bottom of the pot.
    How foolproof is the rice cooker, and what else can it be used for, given it’s essentially a backcountry steam cooker?
    Looking forward to finding out.

      I have done some testing with this setup. So far rice was super easy and came out great. I am working on baking (wet VS dry) and then some full meals. I feel I need to get more than just rice out of this to make it worth having. Thanks for commenting

  • @andymytys

    It will be interesting to see what stoves you choose to mate with the rice cooker in your videos. I feel it silly to carry the weight savings of titanium only to carry a beefy two pound stove.
    The Goshawk Eddy Pioneer Pro (the newer version, not the one you reviewed over a year ago) is under 6 oz, and will nest in the rice cooker (probably with the inner chamber removed, though). The fold-flat Brennerle is only 9 oz, and another nice choice as it has a large burn chamber for creating a nice bed of coals to cook over.
    The only down side is the combined price point of the titanium cookware and high-end stove might push some commenters over the edge, and into an actual stress-related health issue.

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  2 года назад

      I had viewers complain even after I stated in my video these were expensive and not for everyone. The Goshawk is on my list of stoves to pair with it as are the Firebox Nano in titanium and the Emberlit Fireant also in titanium. Thanks for commenting

    I'd think the coffee would be cold by the time it dripped through that metal (titanium) cone into a metal (titanium) cup. We know that titanium cools quickly. Of coarse the price tag cools the whole notion though the maker LOOKS COOL! Good preview Mark. :)

      I am waiting till it gets colder before I review the coffee maker but so far the double wall cup is doing its job. Plus, I am putting the lid on as it drips through. Still, it is a bit colder than some other methods. Thanks for commenting

  • @andymytys

    At first I wondered why a double-wall cup for the coffee maker, but thinking how slowly the water filters through, the coffee would otherwise be lukewarm when complete.
    Please be sure to remind people they can’t use the double-wall cup directly on an open flame / hot coals. The heat will expand the air trapped between the two walls, and warp the cup. Some even claim it can “explode.” It’s a fast way to ruin an expensive cup, in any event.

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  2 года назад

      Good point. I did watch a video where a guy tested boiling water in a double wall Ti mug. Did not explode but did bulge and too a very long time to boil. Would hate to ruin this set. Thanks for commenting

      This is actually a problem with even steel drippers. The temperature drops so fast it doesn't brew right.
      If you're doing drip you need glass minimum, ceramic is the best way to go for the best flavor. Thin titanium will lose the temp even faster than steel ones, so I imagine it's actually not that good at all for drip coffee.
      Drip makes zero sense to do in titanium anyway, nobody is gonna backpack with that, it's a campsite item so you may as well go for a full, nice drip tbqh

      I’ve used mine at home, traveling, backpacking and camping. It makes an amazing cup assuming you have a good grind. If it’s really cold I just let it steep in the cup rather than pouring over- immersion like a French press but I can just pull the cone out and less mess than a press. Wayyy lighter than glass, ceramic and steel. I’ve dropped all the components multiple times and no damage minus a small ding on the cup. It’s payed for itself probably 3 times now with all the time, money and distance saved not going to coffee shops in the morning while traveling or in the middle of a work day.

    Anyone considering the Kieth kettle should take a look at the Fire Maple kettle.
    Body of kettle one piece, in my opinion a very nice design and the Primula Brew reusable filters fit the rim of the kettle perfectly making it into a loose Tea or filter coffee pot.
    Titanium Fry pan skillet is only for those desperate to try and save weight, anodised aluminium is a better solution in most cases.
    The Kieth coffee filter and cup is a sort of Wow I want one! but I haven’t checked out the spondulicks yet.
    EDIT £200 in the UK, will stick to my titanium French press for now.
    Will be interesting to see Mark using this filter/cup set.

I’ve looked at the premium “rice cooker” for years, haven’t pulled the trigger (can I say that since you’re in Canada)? FWIW it is an excellent rice cooker. I also use it to steam vegetables and boil water for various things. It would be fine to make soups, stews, ramen, and whatnot. When I take it with me, I store food incl rice and seasonings inside of it so the space won't be wasted. Did I say it was an excellent rice cooker? I have everything Mark has shown save for the drip coffee kit (which I vow to obtain in my lifetime), the canteen set, and several other pieces. The titanium pan is quite substantial materially-speaking and feels very good in hand. I have very pleased with each and every Keith product I have purchased.

    That coffee maker is extremely premium looking. However the $200 price tag for drip coffee is a bit too steep for most. I'll stick with my Jogo coffee straw if I'm solo, and the gsi ultralight java drip if I'm with the wife. I bet some really creative things can be cooked in that rice maker.

      Being double-wall, the outside will be never be too hot. Being so small, a handle might be good for petite women and children, but I suspect most adults would find a handle awkward and uncomfortable to use.

    I love your original content, but I have to say these so called ‘premium’ items seem way off base. A frying pan with hotspots but a premium price. A tiny coffee maker that you have to pour water in multiple times and wait ages to get a tiny cup of coffee that costs two arms and a leg. I like your make-do, original, down to earth content so much more than these advertisements. I know You Tubers need to make money, so that means advertising, so I put up with it, but please get back to the original content we love so much and that is the reason we subscribe. All the best!
