It’s pretty funny that a sponsorship that’s 30% of the video gives you a 30% off offer.

*SPOILERS*
Having just gotten out of the movie, I’m going to disagree with your point on Joseph Quinn’s character. His parents being overseas is only a small part of it. During the scene in Sam’s apartment, he also mentions going to NYC for law school and says something along the lines of “It’s the one thing I was meant to do,” which implies that either he dedicated his whole life to it, or he comes from a family of lawyers. When it’s ripped away from him in seconds, he feels like he has nothing left to live for until stumbling upon Frodo by pure happenstance. I found his journey of finding reasons to keep going, even during the end of the world, really resonant.
Totally agree. They both gave each other what they needed, Sam’s last few wonderful moments in the city she loved and Eric’s hope and survival. It was beautiful.
I actually read that line, the "it's the one thing I was meant to do" line as meaning he's been a screw up his whole life, and this is the one and only thing he was supposed to do and now it's down the drain. I think either way, his character has a bit more depth and I enjoyed Quinn's performance.
Yes! And Eric seems like not the law kind of guy. He's kind and wears his emotions on his sleeve
@@lisac4215 I got that as well. I relate to his characterization, so he felt pretty compelling to me as well. And the scene when Eric was safe in the water and Sam was in the water ... I couldn't stop crying. And the scene with the written note had me sobbing.
I agree. For me it presented an interesting question of what does someone do if their whole purpose for living disappears. Everything that he had based his reality on was gone and he needed to find a new purpose.

This movie is a symbolism of kindness and a desire to live. A nostalgic feeling for what you missed when life was pure and beautiful. A fear of death mixed with already knowing your fate. The movie was a masterpiece in human emotions.

5:36 slight spin on this that already exists if you haven't seen it, there's a mini series from 2008 called 'Dead Set' where a zombie outbreak happens during a season of Big Brother. Sort of like what you wanted, a group of people who are cut off from the world because of the show trying to figure out what's happening
Didn’t expect to see you here
I saw this mini series many years ago and loved it. It's really interesting.
Frodo the cat deserves an Oscar
Cats our stupid & don’t deserve an Oscar what kind of drugs are you on
Two cats played Frodo.🐱🐱🤗
it was two cats
Then they both deserve an oscar
Not aliens but Dead Set is a UK production where the contestants in a season of Big Brother are completely oblivious to the fact that there is a zombie apocalypse going on. It is very good.
It’s written by Charlie Brooker, the guy who would go on to create Black Mirror, if that sweetens the deal for anyone!
There is a Brazilian show called Reality Z that is exactly the same thing.
@@CyberLance26 But not as good
@@Kausan1 I saw Reality Z but i have never seen Dead Set.

Djimon Hounsou Doesn’t get enough love. He’s fantastic in everything he’s in from Constantine to gladiator to this. I want to see him as the focus of a movie
Yesssssssssss same!
That guy is a friggin legend. He elevates everything he's in. Yes gladiator and Constantine was better with him in it. He also did a cameo in guardians of galaxy and he's even done TV show. He played a scientist in Wayward Pines season 2 where he looked after the cryo pods waking up every hundred years to check on things and watch humanity devolve into monsters. He did some serious acting there weeping and narrating his inner turmoil. Seriously good stuff. 🥺
Having seen A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place 2, I have a really unique connection growing up with these films

Lupita’s character is amazing, but they should have kept the nurse who was introduced before the invasion instead of switching him for a random guy that just *appears* in a jump scare
Yea I was surprised by that. I didn’t care for the switch.
Boohoo
I agree.
Yeah true. They set that guy up as a likeable character with a nice connection to the lead actress & the actor had much more personality.
The nurse has an already established relationship with her and Joseph Quinn's character forces her to reckon with her existence whereas the nurse interactions clearly show they are on different levels but still care for each other.
I haven't seen it yet, but I'm surprised that Stuckmann, the number one fan of Alien, wants to know more about the purpose of these invading aliens. What did the alien want in the Alien movies? We assumed it was like a shark: It moves, it eats, and it reproduces. What is the motivation of a regular ant? I'm sure they have one, but we don't need to know it to understand the problem of them infesting your house. Threats in nature don't need a purpose. The drama comes from how this problem affects the characters beyond the primal instinct to stay alive.
I mean, you kind of need to know what the ants in your house are going after in order to stop the infestation. Carpenter ants are eating your wood floors. Regular ants are going after the blueberry that fell behind your stove. If you don’t deal with those sources, you’re just going to keep getting ants.
@@eyespy3001Not every story told needs to be a “save the world by defeating the aliens” plot. Sometimes, just watching interesting characters in interesting situations battle to just survive is enough.
I thought it was obvious seeing how they arrived, they are a bio weapon. The purpose of which is to get the population of the planet to the point. They can no longer fight back or killed off entirely making the planet ripe for the taking .
For me, an alien in space wanting to kill you is easier to roll with than aliens invading earth (their intention is more interesting because it can be more than just killing). Having two previous movies creating the mystery surrounding the creatures and their invasion also creates an expectation of a reveal of at least something when this movie takes place at the beginning. It being a third movie of a franchise also adds to the expectation. I still enjoyed it, but I couldn't help wanting to know more.
@@cokemachine62590 Sure. Agreed. However, if you make a _series_ of movies set in the same universe, in the same timeline, at some point, retreading the same plot is going to get REALLY boring. That’s why the Predator series hasn’t really produced anything good after the second movie.
I maintain they should have waited to make this until after A Quiet Place Part III because of Part II's cliffhanger ending, but I'm still excited to see this. Lupita especially is a modern acting legend and I can't wait to see her in another horror movie after she blew me away with Us.
I agree completely.
She is an excellent actress !
They're still making part 3 to continue the story. This is a standalone adjacent story about the beginning.

@@cubantoosh sounds like someone hasn’t been told that spreading negatively is a no no. It’s okay. Hurt people, hurt people. Educating oneself is very useful in these types of situations instead of leading with bias, assumptions and hurtful words. Encouraging a little more tends to help someone more than bringing down people that you don’t know. Read a book on how to love yourself instead of projecting your own self values of ignorance and stupidity onto other people that really don’t deserve it. I hope you are well and around people that love you because if you continue this routine and don’t see the beautiful parts of humanity. Most of them will flock away from you. 🫶🏽
@@cubantooshah white people, calling everything they don’t understand “demonic” 😂😂😂
Nothing wrong with wanting to know more about the creatures but the unknown is what makes it scary and unnerving. Knowing to much about them takes away the mystery of them. Look at the Aliens franchise, it was horrible when they gave us the backstory of Xenos. To me i like the “ if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” mentality. This movie is a solid prequel that’s falls just a tad below the other ones. They played it safe and kept what works. I think it should be one more to where it’s still has the same tone but have it more action packed. In other words we get the last movie to be what Aliens was to Aliens. We get to see the military learn their weakness and fightback while still maintaining the horror elements…..like Aliens.
Hey don't knock aliens. I loved Prometheus and Covenant when they gave us so much backstory on the aliens and how it started from the black goo. But I know some fans didn't like Prometheus as there was no aliens so Ridley Scott added lots of aliens in Covenant but for some reason not enough fans showed up. A new alien movie is coming out so let's support it or Disney is pulling the plug on the franchise.
@@jonfreeman9682 We shouldn’t support something just to support it but yes the new movie looks good. I just hope it delivers and don’t have woke moments in it. Covenant and Prometheus are good Syfy movies but horrible Aliens movies if that makes sense.
@@johnnyappleseed8127 Totally agree. Bob Iger said in a recent call he's excited for the new alien movie coming out but will review the entire movie slate so movies TV shows and properties that don't make money they will not put anymore money making them to turn Disney around. So this could be alien's last dance if we don't support it. Alien has always been niche so it doesn't make much money.

Not caring about the first 2 masterworks is diabolical.

@@ProfeAdventuresyeah I know it’s each to their own but the first two movies had way more suspense…
@@aliali-ce3yf I think they were just overhyped for me and didn’t live up to expectations. This one I went into expecting more of the same but Lupita Nyong’o’s performance had me a lot more invested in her character than I felt invested in the characters in the last two movies. Day One isn’t perfect but I just really enjoyed it for what it was.
How long until this director is on the podcast?
Someone commented about want to see a A Quiet Place III . I agree especially since the franchise has done such an excellent and worked so hard at establishing and making us care about the original characters. I actually cried in the first movie when the father was signing to his daughter that he did in fact love her moments before he sacrificed his life for his children. That first film took me by total surprise. I have felt so much for characters in a horror film possibly ever and I'm a fan of the genre. Most of the time the children are through away characters. The writers, actors, director drew such fully-developed characters, especially in the daughter, it add that much more dimension to the film. The filmmakers can't just drop that family's story without resolution. Chris, I agree. I would also like to know more the creatures. I'm excited to see what we learn about them in this film, but it's similar to the aliens in the Alien franchise. The first two films were excellent. The first perhaps a groundbreaking masterpiece. By the 2nd film I wanted to know where the aliens were from and what their ultimate goal was. They, as the monsters in this franchise, are clearly intelligent and not just mindless killing machines. They came to earth for a reason. I love your reviews Chris!
I had no idea this was the same director who directed Pig (2021). You got me, I adore that film, so definitely going to see this in IMAX or Dolby Cinema.
Impatiently waiting for your review of Yargos Lanthimos’ Kinds of Kindness (2024). Saw an early screening and oh my goodness, gotta be the most cringe, hilarious, wild and violent “WTF did I just watch?” film of 2024. The best in the franchise so far. I love the symbolisms.
The Walking Dead did the premise you speculated about, Chris. Rick Grimes woke up from a 3 weeks coma and walked unsuspectingly into an apocalyptic world. Instead of Sonic Hearing Aliens, he encountered human zombies...
umm no. Rick was out for 5 weeks. and that’s 35 days. not day 1.
The POINT of that secondary character is that he is directionless and a blank slate in despair.
I don't know whether this is a good idea or not but i'm honestly interested to see a crossover movie between A Quiet Place and Cloverfield. Given that both franchises are owned by Paramount Pictures and it has a bit of similar concept, who knows it might happen someday. Never say never.....
There were rumours floating around at one point that the first one was in the Cloverfield universe, but because of the poor reception of The Cloverfield Paradox, they abandoned the idea (same went for Overlord)
Question for all: Did anyone else feel frustrated with the inconsistency of how sensitive the monsters were to sound? For example when the nurse manages to successfully turn of the generator with no monsters showing up, but then his shirt rips and it’s slashing time? Or in the final chase scene when Frodo is being carried down the pier by his butler, the creatures hear a can rattling over the sound of car alarms and glass and metal getting smashed and all of them turn and bolt towards them? I also noticed immediately that creatures seemingly don’t react at all to sounds caused by their own kind, which would be fine if it was explained but it is never addressed
Nope! Didn't work! Not gonna make me cry..😢 I am a 40 yr old man and held strong at the end. This was the best of the series.
Am I the only one who connects the quest in this movie to Zombieland; character traveling a dangerous landscape for a nostalgic food that reminds them of a late family member
They do enough characterisation with Eric (Joseph Quinn). From a couple of comments made by him you get he's put all his eggs in one basket, coming overseas to study to become a lawyer (because that's all he knows) and it clearly hasn't gone well for him, his family would probably be disappointed and when you think back to first seeing him, he was ready to give up...until he saw Frodo the cat. That's enough.
My theory is that the noise just drives them insane.

I want to see a version from a military perspective
They need to show a big military battle but this was not a massive budget.
That’s a chunky ad
I have a really good idea. What if someone is blind and they’re trying to live in the world where they have to be quiet but they can’t find their way around because they are blind so they have to be very careful for what they do.
They've already done that. It's called Bird Box with Sandra Bullock and I think they came out with a sequel. Also they did a TV show called see with Jason Momoa where everyone is blind so they have to be really careful with everything and the fight scenes where blind fighting blind was truly epic. Can you believe Apple TV spent $400 million making that show but it's brilliant.
I enjoyed this more than the first two and found the characters more emotionally relatable and compelling. There’s a nice role reversal in that the female character is sort of guiding the more fragile male character along. That’s nice to see. And they have such a sweet dynamic. I don’t really want to know more about the aliens because that will sort of defeat the purpose of what this film franchise trying to do.
I love both A Quiet Place films since this prequel gets a different director I'm going to an optimistic mind on watching it
what about a meteorite landing on one of those big cruise ships
I really want to know what it was like for people who lived on islands during day one. Because, as long as the aliens didn’t land on their island, they’d be completely fine for the most part.
Title name for part 1 n 2 ?
I enjoyed A Quiet Place: Day One. I really hope there’s another spinoff of Henri and Eric.
I hope they go forward in time a bit in the next movie to show that these things ARE fightable..but its by no means an easy war to win. It would be cool to see some great victories and some tragic losses in the battle against the alien creaturss.
The ads are getting pretty annoying
Quiet place but it's before the aliens arrive and it's normal life
I wouldn't be surprised if we get a follow up to this movie, where It's Day One, but from the military point of view. Not to spoil it for anyone, but this film does suggest the military is doing stuffs. And we know from the first 2 films that the creatures can't swim. So the Navy, and islands around the world are probably alive and able to fight.
