A Quiet Place Day One has just hit theatres and after checking out the film, I was surprised at how well this prequel worked. It works as it's own seperate take on the series during the invasion of the death angels, but it also connects to the other movies in a few brief ways too. What did you think of the latest Quiet Place movie?
I personally enjoyed the movie a bit more than i thought i would going into it. The scene where Eric acted as a magician onstage to make Sam smile for just a moment was really nice and it was the little looks they gave each other throughout the film that made it for me. Eric wanting to go grab meds for Sam, going to get her cat while being surrounded by aliens, and Sam being able to help keep him calm was so great. I wish Sam made it out at the end but in the end i thought it was solid movie. Saw in IMAX so i definitely wanna check it out in Dolby next time.
I may sound really sensitive but the ending made me cry so much. The way she saw her pizza place destroyed to when they go to the jazz club. The way why she gives him the cat is just so emotional to me. I have lost someone to cancer as well so it did hit closer to home with this. Idc what anyone says this was 10/10 for me
I would give it a 10/10, such a beautiful human story .. When the guy jumps with the car in the water, I literally had tears in my eyes too. And every part of the movie was so emotional. Truly a humanistic story, I can’t explain through words but it’s more a human story and beautifully shown emotions.
Most importantly, she found a new owner for Frodo. People grappling with their own mortality often stress their beloved pets not having someone that will love them.
Thought Day One was just as good as the previous two films. I know some people wanted to know more about the aliens. But honestly, I don’t think we need to know any more about them other than what we already know that is important. They’re just aliens that came from space, they’re blind and attack anything that makes noise, and they can’t swim. What else is there to learn about them?
I think it’s mainly the back story of where they really came from or is there a higher power other than the main aliens. As much as I loved this movie, the only thing I want to know more about is the aliens and their origins. I understand your point as well tho. It just would give more hype for these movies if they made one with more detailing on the aliens
What was they eating in the scene with the cat and guy on the beam, looked like fluffy egss, what was the point of that scene with no explanation, they just teased lol
I want to know how they breed, because in the scene where Eric goes to get meds for Sam, he encounters what I imagine it’s the queen alien feeding its offspring. Honestly, the three movies are awesome, and I love a story well told, I enjoy the journey not the destination
I’ve seen a lot of people have issues but I loved this just as much as the other two. Would I have loved to learn more about the creatures? Ofc but I wasn’t really expecting that from this addition in the franchise.
I felt exactly the same way. It was a great prequel that focused more on its own journey than connecting things. Yet it still did have the odd connection which was also welcome.
8:26 I think you meant to say “…her own mortality.” Not “morality”. Awesome breakdown though, always appreciate these kinds of ‘movies explained’ videos. 😊
Those who saw the movie, please answer the question, what were those alien mushroom things the monsters were eating and communicating about. It could be nothing but I feel like it’s a big part. Idk correct me if I’m wrong.
Fantastic breakdown/review as always. Thank you Cortex. This was a fantastic movie. My family and I love to watch these types of movies, the kids are away so this one was one just my wife and I went to see. Having a son who has survived stage 3 cancer we were emotional from the start. This was a great story within a story and they did a great job. Kept things different enough to enjoy as a 3rd entry into the franchise. For me this was one of the better movies put out recently.

Still, a great movie. For me from AQP1 and 2 already showed that alien was the essence of suspence yet the movies emphasized the human relationship even under hardship and danger. The caring and love. Always love the AQP sequels. Will wait for the next one.
there was a shot of lower manhattan being in utter devastation, i loved the movie for the focus on the characters even though i do wish more destruction was shown on a wider scale especially with military response
Theory time: What if, the exact moment she unplugs her earphones from the radio, the high pitch signal from the end of the second film kicks in and incapacitates the death angel in the third film.
I just wanted to know where “THEY” came from I enjoyed the movie, being a native New Yorker in the “CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS” it reminded me of when the pandemic first hit…..
Similar here in Los Angeles where planes would fly above us every night and always filled in the freeways but during the pandemic the skies were isolated, highways were silent and only road signs lit the streets
It's day one. I get what you mean but her death happens before the story of the family. Maybe we didn't need to see the creature and just left it kind of open ended.
@@omarhall1610 Yes I can see that being possible but theres the one seen where groups of people in the inner city were going into one direction and Sam along with Cat was going into the opposite direction. The crowd tried to be silent but it wasn't good enough. Sam noticed the the low sounds from the crowd. What happened to the helicopters to help those people? A few Death Angels came out of nowhere rushing the people.
@@josam4545 Yeah I noticed....until they get to other place (off the boat) in part 2 day 1 (baseball game small town scene). Imagine if or when they make the next Quiet Place showing the Death Angels origin/planet. They can keep this story going for a long time.
She was terminally ill and in hospice (end of life care). She was going to die very soon whether the monsters got to her or not, so in her mind, there was no point in making it onto the boat just to die from cancer a couple of days or weeks later. She also wouldn’t have had her medicine with her, which would have left her in a lot of pain in her final days. Knowing she was going to die regardless, her priorities were to make sure Frodo and Eric were safe and to go to those places that reminded her of her dead father one last time.
Got me turned off at "captivating new characters" when character development was the weakest point of this film...with the exception of Lupita's work of course
For me this movie is hard to rate also spoilers on this comment probably so beware but I will say I really did like the movie like I cared for the characters and cried with the storyline that we were given for the characters however this movie is called day 1 and advertised as witness the beginning and so on and because of that I think the movie failed really bad like first off let’s start with a joke the movie didn’t even take place on day 1 well it did but a lot of it was on day 2 and 3 😂 anyways joking aside I hated how short the beginning of the apocalypse was like we get no military fighting back scenes like not even one shot at all, I wish they showed off how the humans realized the aliens are bullet proof and can’t swim, and I wish we got scenes of the military or the survivors trying to figure out what these and so on instead the aliens pop out and that’s it everyone accustomed to them instantly, and Henry was wasted like if your gonna do a prequel than make the guy who was in the past movie be the lead instead he was heavily sidelined and the cat was hella ridiculous like sure I don’t want to see a cat die but if the whole movie is trying to immerse you into the world than make the cat believable making noises and so on like either kill the cat which will suck or make it more believable with some noises and making our characters go through more tougher situations and shoot yall killed of those cute raccoons in the first movie so we know yall ain’t scared to kill cute animals 😂 anyways again being advertise as watch the beginning and how it happens was wrong and would makes this film a failure like they should of advertised this as a spinoff following random people and if they took this route than its easily a 8/10 film so again I do like the film but not as a day 1 movie
Things happened very fast. Mobilizing a military attack wouldn't have been immediate. Furthermore the very nature of that mobilization would require noise and we know what that means
While parts of it did disappoint me (kind of hoped for more destruction and alien lore, and Frodo the cat's plot armor got a little ridiculous at points), I thought Day One was still a good time, and its human story and themes hit harder than I expected. It makes me sad seeing so many people hate on it.
I had high hopes for this movie but it sucked. It was boring and didn’t add anything new to the franchise. Exchanging a cat instead of kids and the family was a bad move. The lady’s character was horrible. I felt nothing for her. Then they add this British guy who you can’t even understand what he does and says and why we should care for him maybe because they wanted a white and a black characters. They had no chemistry and no reasons to be together. It was just one horrible writing after another. They are going for pizza??? Really? Really? Really? Come on. This isn’t scary and logical and even the cat lacked enough personality to make it interesting. They could have had some cats vs aliens and I would have been into it more than these characters.

I wish they showed how they destroyed military and everything and how military and gov failed to overpower them
