I was really impressed at how well this film was handled. It's still quiet and scary for most of the runtime, and a character-focussed narrative was absolutely the right way to go. We all know how great Lupita Nyong'o is but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Joseph Quinn's performance: much more excited to see him as Johnny Storm now. Also, I know exactly which "studio mandated jumpscare" you were referring to 🤣
He's good at giving face. I really enjoyed his performance. Everytime he needed to deliver those heavy emotions without saying a word, he hit every single one. Special mention to when she first met him and the last time we see him.
During the entire non spoiler review I was like “I need to know if that cat dies because that is going to entirely determine if I watch this movie or boycott it”
As silly as it is this movie has one of my greatest pet peeves, characters who are literally underwater in one scene who dry off in less than 10 seconds. Even Frodo apparently finds a Dyson because that was not a wet cat.
I don't know if this is the audience success that Dan or even I expected leaving the theater. I loved this movie and agree with Dan a ton that these movies were never about big action movie spectacles but looking at Twitter or Audience RT takes it seems a lot of people expected or wanted that. Lupita and Joseph were powerhouses and their character's stories really touhed my heart
don't go by online reaction. remember, they are a small number of people compared to the amount of the people who go to these movies, and people are more likely to go online to complain than they are to praise.
To be honest I am one of those people because after re watching the second quiet place, the actor that was put in this movie as well talked about 12 ships that were there and only 2 ships that made it out. I thought we were going to see that I the final act. Movie is good though. My sister loved it. I just liked the first 2 more
The trailer didn't grab me, I only went because I like seeing movies in general. Wasn't even a fan of the original (never saw part 2) but I really enjoyed this movie! It's a drama more than a horror, more about accepting fate and coming to terms with a huge change. After covid it's very relatable. And I'm not a cat person but I'd fight a monster for Frodo.
I really loved this movie! The creatures were as scary as ever and it was interesting seeing everything happen in a metropolitan environment rather than in an isolated town. I personally connected very much with Lupita’s character right from the beginning. Without spoiling it too much, I think the film tried to answer the question of “how important would the literal end of the world actually be when in some ways it feels like ‘your own personal world’ was already ending long before the aliens arrived?” Lupita’s journey felt deeply personal to me and really touched me. It made me tear up by the end of the story. We also learn a tiny bit more about the creatures though I think we are overdue for a better understanding of how they originally came to invade the planet. Ultimately, I thought Day One was great and would rank it as my second favorite film in the series (after the first one).
You turned me around on this one Dan. I had written the series off because I was expecting a cheap cash grab but I really like what you had to say in the non spoiler part. I look forward to seeing it now.
I'm really sad to see negative comments about this movie. To me, it's the highlight of the franchise, but I suppose that's because different people are looking for different things. Personally, I couldn't care less about the aliens - genuinely terrified the next one will be about "alien lore" or "fighting back" (I had the same problem with where the Planet of the Apes franchise seems to be going - please don't bring the humans back yet, they are not the heart of this story!). Who cares where they're from!! Space, I'd assume?? Okay, good for them! I'm happy to see action or horror films, but they have to be driven by a soulful core, which this movie definitely had (and semi-demogorgon motherships probably won't). I thought it was very smart and beautiful to frame the story around Sam, and Lupita Nyong'o, as well as Joseph Quinn, created very sympathetic characters. To me, the draw of this movie was highlighting what society lost along with sound - art, connection, emotional release, etc. I found such moments quite lovely and poignant for a random sci-fi prequel. While watching, I started forming this image of Sam as a representation of the artist that would be considered of little significance to society, while Eric would be the career-driven successful man participating in the machine. However, after the world collapses, he is "reborn" (we first see him emerging out of the water) without a purpose, lost and terrified without a framework to function within. The epic, unkillable magical cat literally guides him to Sam, who's empathy, soulfulness and self-assuredness gives Eric new goals, new strength, moves him from stasis. He dedicates himself to her, eases her pain, and she guides him to new life. My friend and I cried A Lot during this movie (happens often, to be fair), and while the other two are nice 90-minute horror flicks, Day One definitely left a much stronger impression, and I hope it does well, because it could encourage studios to put more trust in freshly hired indie directors. P.S. - so glad they Finally took advantage of ambient sound!
I just saw it today. During the thunderstorm when she started screaming and then he started screaming, I just burst into tears with the pain, fear and loss that they were going through and in such need of release.
Honestly I thought that’s what they did kind of in the middle of the movie, before the main female lead met through male lead, where she was with the 2 kids and hiding while the helicopter went in one direction and then shouted to go to the dock or something, and then people came out in that big crowd (eventually leading to them being “caught” and killed en masse).
@@chrissolaceyea but they very easily could have gone to the opposite side of the city, blast music or sound while people walked to the docks. They did it and then left. If this was a real effort this would have been solved much quicker. Huge suspension of disbelief for me. Like some of the dumbest humans ever portrayed in a movie
I love how Dan plays around with his intros. I would have liked to see him hold up a sign with “here are my thoughts right now”. Or act like he was under attack despite whispering.
Lupita’s character’s motivation in this movie given her situation is honestly one I could easily get behind… that being said once that motivation got achieved, there was something “cold” about it that didn’t sit with me, and I immediately reverted back to not agreeing with it😂
I saw this last night in my favorite Dolby Atmos theater, and holy crap when that guy in the opening scene, I think, when he says something to Lupita Nyong'o as she’s walking down the hall and it came from the left rear corner, I swear to God, I thought someone was over there literally yelling at the screen, lol. The sound design in this movie, really warrants you seeing it in a quality theater either with Dolby Atmos, or at least IMAX. I haven’t heard anyone mention, though, lol, is that the cat does not meow once in the entire movie! How many times when something like an explosion or something falling, or whatever that would normally scare a cat, or at least when the cat is just interacting with its owner, cats normally meow in those situations, but how is this cat in the movie not meowing one single time!? I’m sure I’m not the only one wondering that exact thing. Lol.
Less than 24 hours after the invasion, Lupitas character figures out that talking under a water fall muffles the sound from the aliens Also in the original they refer, on the screen, to this being DAY 1
Finally watched it, anybody notice the book she picked up was Dawn by Octavia Butler? This happened mere moments after I told my partner that she reminded me of a Butler character! I saw parts of Lauren Olamina from the Parables; definitely a bit of Lilith from Dawn (who also had cancer and encountered aliens); and a dash of Dana from Kindred, I really did love her character a lot!
This movie is so much more entertaining than the other two in my opinion! I loved it!!! It made me emotional, scared, and I enjoyed the quirky moments between the leads. Beautiful film
Adding to your great video about how to get people to go back to the movies when you, Dan, said that the audience surrounding you can be a big problem, my wife and I experienced that exact thing on Friday afternoon. We saw a not-busy 4 pm show, but 2 older men sat down in the back row a few seats away from us. And then---these senior citizens, mind, you, not teenagers---were talking and on their fully-lit-up phones for the first 5 minutes of the movie! I saw where it was going and got up to get in their faces and tell them to get off their phones (yes, I AM that guy), but they either didn't understand English (they were Asian) or just didn't care. I'm leaning towards "just didn't care" because who goes to see an English-language movie if they don't speak it? So my wife and I went down several rows to avoid having to hear muttering (I think one of the guys was talking to somebody on his phone) and have those full-on bright lights too. And this after Lupita herself came on before the show started to ask people to not talk and not be on their phones since IT'S A MOVIE ALL ABOUT QUIET AND DARKNESS! Anyway, I would give the flick a soft 3 out of 4 stars, but my wife didn't like it all that much. There IS a huge inconsistency with what those aliens can and can't hear, which I guess was true of the other movies too.
Great, Dan! I think this is the best in the trilogy. Agree with all you say, including that one jump scare, but it didn't bother me, I was so involved and emotionally invested. I think Frodo was played by 2 cats, unless I misread the credits at the end. How did he avoid getting wet in the sewer scene? Movie 'magic'. No matter, I loved it
I’m a HUGE movie lover/fanatic and aspiring actress. I have already watched 20 movie releases this year including A Quiet Place Day One. I throughly enjoyed this movie. Even though I still think the original is the best of the franchise the third one is now my favorite of the franchise. It’s now in my top five favorite movies of 2024 thus far. This was another movie review. ❤❤❤❤
The worlds most well behaved and silent cat cat... very unrealistic and cringe.. cats are pretty fucking vocal especially in a traumatic situation like threatens its wel being and that of those who feed it.. it would have hissed and scowled at the creatures at every given moment... and it would have gone ballistic in the water... come on people,, the cat ruined the realistic impact of the movie
I heard another reviewer said they got word they scrapped a lot of scene regarding the aliens origin so maybe that had some effect on those changed or scrapped scenes from the trailers
Hey Dan, might be a bit late since Charts is out tomorrow, but with news that Inside Out 2 has passed $1Billion worldwide, I'd be interested in seeing a chart tracking how quickly different $1Billion movies have reached that milestone.
I'd like to know what are the motives of these creatures. They just kill everything they hear and run like hell. They don't feed off anything they kill. I think there is still room for more exploration.
I liked this one. Decent story, entertaining. What it was missing was the daughter played in the John Krasinski movies that is deaf and played by a deaf actress. I like the representation and that she is the hero of the story. I look forward to whenever the third movie of that series comes out.
Yeah this was miss for me. Dont get me wrong I like the acting from the main characters but felt like this was a DLC of a blockbuster game. Part 2 had a day one scene as well that i was invested in bc of the family. I get the whole strangers come together thing but the way they came together for me was not good..bc of the cat finding the dude and he followed it to Lupita lol? The cat btw should have been killed in the movie theater when the nurse almost caught it the first time. I figured she was sacrifice herself at the end. So it was alot of just getting to that point. My question though is was she just going to leave the cat and just allow the monsters to get her after getting the pizza if she never met jospeh quinns character or she was going to try to stay alive and find someone to give the cat to bc she was terminal after she got the pizza by herself? The story was something ive seen alot in movies so thats why i think my enjoyment wasn't like with the other 2 movies. Maybe for other people though.
Its a weird movie. I didn't like it at all. Not that Lupita Nyongo's motivation is unrelatable. But it feels a little undermined by the need to jam in action set pieces that feel barely connected. I also just don't get Joseph Quinn's character. None of his actions make sense to me, neither why he decides to follow Lupita Nyongo, nor why he is so helpless and panic stricken. We simply don't get enough meat on that bone. An interesting setup without any real progression.
SPOILERS I think he follows Samira because she's the only person who's not panicking, who seems to have a purpose and a confidence in a bad situation. As to why he's so helpless and panic stricken, well...when we meet him, he'd nearly drowned in the subway due to the river flooding it and he was being stalked by killer aliens. I'd be pretty panic-stricken myself. Not everyone faces adversity with strength. Some people need help, and we see him gain strength through Samira throughout the entire movie.
@@DanMurrellMovies yeah, that's fair, I just think a more helpless - connected character would have fit the bill better. Say for example Djimon Hounsou's child, or even the male nurse. Someone with more evidently compelling reasons that would translate through the lack of dialogue.
Hello Dan. I did not see the first two films. However I am now interested. Would you recommend watching the prequel first then the first and second? Or should I watch them in release order. Which would make more sense? I have been watching your channel for just about a year. Thanks for all the work you put in.
I didnt realize Joseph Quinn was going to be in it. I love Lupita, shes great imo but I'm worried the movie will feel overdone and the idea of the potential Universe building is unbearable. But, if people truly end up liking it I hope they get more if that's ehat they want
I didn't watch any trailers for the movie, so i went in thinking it was either going to be a collection of moments in various ppls lives on day 1 of the alien invasion, or they were going to hollywood blockbuster the premise, and i'm very happy to have been wrong. I had hoped it would have the same feeling as the other movies in that its following just a few characters closely, and they feel very human, not melodramatic, and it was! Also like Dan said, sound design was a+. I kept expecting the cat to die, not for the emotional impact, so much as i kept expecting the cat to make noise by accident. 😅
LIGHT SPOILER WARNING ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ My only pet peeve in this movie was with the note at the ending. Nick had JUST swam through loads of water to get to the boat, would the ink not have bled all over the paper, making the note unreadable???
There’s more to it than just being well-reviewed. I think people wanted to see movies like these. No one wanted a Furiosa prequel, even if it was actually good in execution. People wanted to see the first day of a Quiet Place, the next steps for Riley’s emotions, and the next Bad Boys chapter. My guess is if Furiosa had been Theron’s character, and a sequel to Fury Road with Max, people would’ve showed up in droves. It’s about making what audiences want.
I just saw the movie today and I agree the movie is a solid character driven story, and if the filmmakers had gone the action/cgi heavy route it wouldn't have had the same impact and I wouldn't have been as invested in the characters or the cat, which I also agree Frodo the cat is probably the smartest movie cat I've seen for a long time
6:28 anyone who was expected a huge action movie has clearly never watched the previous two, because they where never about the action in fact they barly had action scenes so people need to stop getting so worked up about it.
The problem with the theory that films people seem to like is correlating to box office success is that Furiosa has higher Metacritic, audience, and RT scores than either Bad Boys or Quiet Place. Yes Furiosa bombed big time. 11:49
I thought it was ok, writers still don’t really know what to do with these aliens and it breaks the disbelief suspension at times. The behaviors just don’t make a lot of sense. But solid enough random movie. Likes the end and way it didn’t go full action ham.
Haven’t watched it yet so I skipped spoiler part of video. Two problems keeping me from watching it in theaters . My problem with part 2 was when they showed the first day. Everyone quickly figured out they had to only be quiet. They were in the middle of a room in plain sight and only keeping quiet. Based on the trailer and the non spoiler review, it looks like the same thing. I would prefer a story of how they figured this out. Second is the cat. I don’t want to see that cat die. But it can only the only survive in two ways. It conveniently only makes noise when it can’t be heard. The monsters are toned down and no longer seconds away from killing you after making a noise. I know it sounds like I’m nitpicking. But I’m one of those people who doesn’t go to movie theaters regularly anymore. I’ll wait to watch it a home. If I’m wrong and I like the movie. I doubt I’ll be disappointed that I didn’t see it in a theater.
My friend and I watched the film together last night, and we both have significantly different views on why one loved the movie and the other felt like it lacked (I believe the film lacked). SPOILERS AHEAD... So, the themes of the "A Quiet Place" movies essentially boil down to family. The stories are told in a big world while focusing on a small group. Now, the marketing for this movie is why I think it has gotten mixed reviews as of its release date. This film showcased the FIRST DAY of the new world, and we kind of skip over that (now bear with me). When the aliens arrive, there is a cloud of smoke that fills the streets and surrounds Lupita's character, Sam; this builds tension because Sam doesn't know what is happening; the audience does because we have seen the monsters in previous movies, and it was at this point that I believe the film started to fail for me. During this scene, Sam tries to understand what is happening but cannot see anything. She runs, hides, finds someone staying quiet, sits with them and watches an individual calling out for help in the nearby distance who gets killed by the monsters. She then gets up and runs for her life, and an explosion knocks her back to a wall, and she goes unconscious. The title card reveals the movie's name, and we wake up to everyone understanding that they need to be quiet. What I believe would have been more enjoyable when she was in the cloud of smoke is instead of having an explosion knock her out, have us, the audience, experience the world going quiet with Sam. During a moment when you cannot see anything, we could essentially be in the shoes of the monsters while still following our protagonist, which would be a POV we have never explored (this would have been something new to contribute to the films). During this moment, it's loud and chaotic; with each passing second, the decibels get lower and lower because the monsters attack and destroy anything that makes a sound. This would have been an exciting way to showcase to our character that sounds affect the creatures. It felt cheap that Sam had to be "told" not to speak or make sounds. Day One should have been about the characters adapting to the new setting and how they must learn to survive these new predators that have invaded Earth. While the story of Sam going to get pizza fits the theme of a small story set in a big world that a quiet place is known for, the marketing for this movie did not do that storyline justice. If you go over the trailers, they continue to show us this idea that we will be viewing a story of two unlucky characters who get caught in an unbelievably horrific position, and the whole time thinking, how will they escape? If you are someone like me who has watched the previous movies before seeing this one, you already know the monster's weakness; you know they can't swim, that higher frequency sounds can cause them grief and run away, and that loud noises can trump minor sounds. What I expected to see in this film was these survival tactics being learned by the two main characters. There is a great scene in the film where our two characters, Sam and Eric, are in a tunnel being flowed down by a rapid stream of water, and the monster chases them on the ceiling. Brilliant tension, and I, for a moment, forgot that these monsters couldn't swim. As the water gets higher, the monster is caught in it and unfortunately drowns; right there, our characters learn the monsters cannot swim and must go to a boat on the water to escape. This way of showcasing should have been prominent throughout the entire movie. There is a scene when it starts raining, and this would be interesting because we have yet to see what happens with the monsters when environmental factors are considered. Two characters are out in the streets and come up to this metal roof where the noise of the rain trumps the characters' voices, which are kept at a low volume. Sam suddenly looks up at the roof, becomes really smart, and starts talking (at a low volume), saying their voice won't be heard because the rain would be louder, but all I could think was, how could she possibly know that? We have never been told that. These characters have yet to be shown that this is even remotely possible. Again, to me, it felt cheap. They told the audience instead of show. The first movie did this as well, but they at least showed this effect by having the little boy scream at the top of his lungs at the waterfall and us being positioned so far away that we could barely hear him over the waterfall. For the scene in the rain for Day One, what would have been better was if they had the monsters close by and either one of the characters made a mistake dropping something or pushing something over, making a sound, but the monsters don't notice it because it's drowned out by the rain. This, again, would've been a way to showcase how our characters could have a chance at survival against these creatures. On top of that, learning they could talk while it was raining and decided to go find shelter was the loudest "HUH?" I had ever said out loud in a theatre. Again, I know the story centred around Sam wanting to get pizza as a last wish, but even then, to minimize the potential danger of being killed by the monsters, they should have walked the streets of New York during that weather! Overall, the movie is crafted well with its storyline IF the marketing was better handled to showcase the story they told rather than the one we were expecting. The trailers showed a fast-paced, scary horror, which didn't fit the themes of the past two movies, where characters are going to be put in positions that help us (the audience) learn how the characters of a quiet place 1&2 learn the skills and tactics to survive 400 days after Day One. I was expecting something different, which excited me, but this movie was the same thing we had seen before, with cheap ways of telling us how they survive and not actually showing us. Quick note... The first time my friend and I saw the group of monsters crawling around New York at terrifying speeds was extremely fun! It was a solid movie, but the first two were miles ahead on rating scores because they knew what stories they wanted to tell and what audiences they wanted to attract. 6/10.
Loved Lupita's character and the whole pizza story, but I did not see any emotional ties between her and the British guy. Her sacrifice was more for herself, I get it, but there should have been a better reason why he was the one she had to save. Maybe it would have been better if she saved the nurse guy. QP 1 &2 is undeniable because its the family tie that is at risk. Tough benchmark to overcome.
I love that this was a story about two strangers who came to rely on each other for survival and comfort. That made the story more powerful than if she had already known him, to me. It speaks to how family isn't just blood, it can be the people who help each other in a time of need.
@@DanMurrellMoviesYou have a point there Dan! I think that’s the arc they were going for. She starts off hating everything and then brings meaning to her life at the end.
The reason she saved him is because he won’t leave her alone, unlike the 2 kids she found in the fountain. In addition, he did help her get her medication. And she did help him earlier because he could not handle the stress by himself when they were in the water. But mainly, because he would not go away… 😂😂😂
@@brianng8350 🤭I had to laugh when she left him at the apartment after the storm and somehow was able to find her and that look she gave him…it was like “seriously!” dude couldn’t take a hint🤭
Hm, I can definitely see your point. It seemed like she kept pushing the nurse guy away but got completely hooked on a stranger. Nevertheless, it was her choice to save him in the end and chose to die by her own will.
SPOILER ALERT!!! It was kinda a sad and a happy ending bc the girl helped the boy and the cat to escape by smashing car windows it worked but she did not want to come and stay there looking at her old photos with her family but she wanted to end her life now
Seems like the people who are incredulous about the cat have never had one or several. Each cat is different but most are very observant and this was a service cat, so it’s had an extra layer of training. 🤷🏽♀️
I was disappointed. None of the scenes ever seemed to last very long and brought down tension. More moments like being trapped under the car, moments that focus in on unexpected but feasible suspense help bring out realism and more investment. In a movie about blind aliens, the least realistic part was Frodo. I've raised cats all my life and not even a Marine Secret Service Judo-Trained service cat would get half the distance it did in the movie, much less find his way back to owners in complete silence. It's silly, I know, but it constantly took me out of it.
6:13 Animals are better than people. Even cats who are widely accepted to be total assholes, are better than most humans on their best day. I don’t give a shit who or how many people die in this movie. But if I find out that they harm that cat in ANY way, I will be boycotting this movie entirely.
The original was literally the dumbest Hollywood movie of all time. So, I'm going to take great pleasure it not seeing this new pile of septic garbage.
Dan can't thank you enough for this review for putting spoilers in. Not gonna lie I committed movie crime, I watched the spoilers without seeing the movie. I love my cats, I just can't see a cat death so I had to see what happens which I won't say to see if I wanna see the movie.
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. However, one scene made absolutely no sense to me. The scene where Joseph Quinn's character goes out to find meds for Lupita. Yeah, I get that part, but the whole sequence attached to after finding the meds made no sense whatsoever, and I thought at that point he was totally out of character, achieving a level of bravery that was not in keeping with the frighten individual he was introduced to us as. Go out to get the meds alone, was a big enough stretch for this character. And you can't chalk it up to character development, because there just wasn't enough time for such a dramatic switch. And while I appreciate the cat, I found too many shots inexplicable and therefore unbelievable.
Weakest of the 3 for me...felt like there were too many "happenstances" and imo the terror of the alien attack actually undercut lupita's character's journey for closure, didnt mesh well. That being said still a good movie

I was really happy that the cat was called Frodo as my family had a cat called Frodo who was amazing. It really did make me happy 🥹🥹
Also her name is Sam. Sam and Frodo 😁
The original is the highlight. This is the cash grab prequel.
Frodo is the true star of the movie
It was okay. I wish it had been scarier. You could also predict how her character’s story was gonna end so it really undercut the tension.
It was soooo dull
I just saw it today. During the thunderstorm when she started screaming and then he started screaming, I just burst into tears with the pain, fear and loss that they were going through and in such need of release.
As did I...
in addition to a few other moments.
That was the quietest cat in the world
Military should have just flown a helicopter around and distracted aliens while everyone escaped
The aliens have a hearing that adjusts based on the plot needs, so that wouldn't have worked
Beat reveiw I've seen so far. You perfectly described how I felt. I LOVED THIS MOVIE. I thought it was suspenseful, beautiful, and perfectly timed.
Always a huge fan of the dad joke openers - never get rid of them Dan 😂
I love how Dan plays around with his intros. I would have liked to see him hold up a sign with “here are my thoughts right now”. Or act like he was under attack despite whispering.
I loved it. It was surprisingly effecting.
It's a nice surprise when the third entry in the franchise and prequel ends up being the best on the franchise
I loved it. Was awesome in the Dolby Cinema.
Dan: "Quality is winning the Box Office"
Me: Furiosa and The Fall Guy bombed while Godzilla X Kong and Kung Fu Panda 4 were mega hits.
And Ghostbusters Frozen Empire, and Mean Girls Reboot, and shitty blumhouse trash. Quality is the exception, lazy IP reboot is what wins
@@GuineaPigEveryday I don't necessarily disagree, but Mean Girls and Frozen Empire both weren't box office hits.
Furiosa had a rlly bad trailer. It steered ppl away from seeing it
@@Price_with_a_bword of mouth didn't help either.
Furiosa was not quality
What would you do for a Klondike bar? More like what would you do for a slice of New York’s finest pizza 🍕
I was a little unwell when I saw this so I didn’t know if I’d like it so much but it really drew me in and I forgot I wasn’t feeling too great
I hope you’ll feel better!
@@ieatgremlins I do thank you
Lupita’s character’s motivation in this movie given her situation is honestly one I could easily get behind… that being said once that motivation got achieved, there was something “cold” about it that didn’t sit with me, and I immediately reverted back to not agreeing with it😂
Made it in my personal, “it’s good, coulda been great” category.
I Unironically would’ve loved for Dan to do the review as quietly as possible 😆
Lol.
Less than 24 hours after the invasion, Lupitas character figures out that talking under a water fall muffles the sound from the aliens
Also in the original they refer, on the screen, to this being DAY 1
Finally watched it, anybody notice the book she picked up was Dawn by Octavia Butler? This happened mere moments after I told my partner that she reminded me of a Butler character! I saw parts of Lauren Olamina from the Parables; definitely a bit of Lilith from Dawn (who also had cancer and encountered aliens); and a dash of Dana from Kindred, I really did love her character a lot!
Them skipping over the learning curve was not a pro. It was a negative.
This movie is so much more entertaining than the other two in my opinion! I loved it!!! It made me emotional, scared, and I enjoyed the quirky moments between the leads. Beautiful film
I really liked your review
7:07 can someone just respond to ONE thing if they’ve seen the movie…
Does the cat end up ok? 😢❤️
You asked so the answer is: yes
@@ThirdCydonian thank you. As even they said In the video, I don’t care what happens to folks in shows as long as the pup/kitty etc are ok 😂🤪
I heard another reviewer said they got word they scrapped a lot of scene regarding the aliens origin so maybe that had some effect on those changed or scrapped scenes from the trailers
Hey Dan, have you checked out The Bear yet? Some of my favorite television in a long while.
Somebody uploaded this movie to YT. Fastforwarded most of this pointless cash-grab of a movie, surprised by the positive review. Meh.
The whisper ❤
Hey Dan, might be a bit late since Charts is out tomorrow, but with news that Inside Out 2 has passed $1Billion worldwide, I'd be interested in seeing a chart tracking how quickly different $1Billion movies have reached that milestone.
🇿🇦 That was one of the best openings to a video in the history of RUclips.
Thank god for the midroll add. I was too late to press pause for the spoiler break, and the add acted as my spoiler buffer.
I saw it and liked it now I want a cat
Its a weird movie. I didn't like it at all.
Not that Lupita Nyongo's motivation is unrelatable. But it feels a little undermined by the need to jam in action set pieces that feel barely connected.
I also just don't get Joseph Quinn's character. None of his actions make sense to me, neither why he decides to follow Lupita Nyongo, nor why he is so helpless and panic stricken. We simply don't get enough meat on that bone.
An interesting setup without any real progression.
Finally someone said it ! I was so confused why that guy kept following her
SPOILERS
I think he follows Samira because she's the only person who's not panicking, who seems to have a purpose and a confidence in a bad situation.
I would suggest release order but chronological would be good as well
Dan needs to do ASMR based on that cold open.
I didnt realize Joseph Quinn was going to be in it. I love Lupita, shes great imo but I'm worried the movie will feel overdone and the idea of the potential Universe building is unbearable. But, if people truly end up liking it I hope they get more if that's ehat they want
I wonder what scare he is referring to that seems like a studio notes
I didn't watch any trailers for the movie, so i went in thinking it was either going to be a collection of moments in various ppls lives on day 1 of the alien invasion, or they were going to hollywood blockbuster the premise, and i'm very happy to have been wrong. I had hoped it would have the same feeling as the other movies in that its following just a few characters closely, and they feel very human, not melodramatic, and it was!
Also like Dan said, sound design was a+.
I kept expecting the cat to die, not for the emotional impact, so much as i kept expecting the cat to make noise by accident. 😅

Great review Dan! I'd be excited to see your review on Kalki 2898 AD and Kill (releasing friday);
I just saw the movie today and I agree the movie is a solid character driven story, and if the filmmakers had gone the action/cgi heavy route it wouldn't have had the same impact and I wouldn't have been as invested in the characters or the cat, which I also agree Frodo the cat is probably the smartest movie cat I've seen for a long time
Kalki review????
6:28 anyone who was expected a huge action movie has clearly never watched the previous two, because they where never about the action in fact they barly had action scenes so people need to stop getting so worked up about it.
I go with it's fine for this
The problem with the theory that films people seem to like is correlating to box office success is that Furiosa has higher Metacritic, audience, and RT scores than either Bad Boys or Quiet Place. Yes Furiosa bombed big time. 11:49
Very interesting takes and callouts on what was in the trailer and what was in the movie. 🤔💯
Thats The Same Aliens From Cloverfield👀💅🏽💯😂
I thought it was ok, writers still don’t really know what to do with these aliens and it breaks the disbelief suspension at times. The behaviors just don’t make a lot of sense.
But solid enough random movie. Likes the end and way it didn’t go full action ham.
My favorite of the three so far! I gave it a GO SEE IT
I agree. I think it's my favourite out of the three.
Definitely..my favourite of the three too!
I appreciate your take. I don't do horror, but I usually root for their success
It was kinda a sad and a happy ending bc the girl helped the boy and the cat to escape by smashing car windows it worked but she did not want to come and stay there looking at her old photos with her family but she wanted to end her life now
That cat was ridiculous!
Glad you liked it I did too
Seems like the people who are incredulous about the cat have never had one or several. Each cat is different but most are very observant and this was a service cat, so it’s had an extra layer of training. 🤷🏽♀️
KALKI 2898 released this week
Must watch
I was disappointed. None of the scenes ever seemed to last very long and brought down tension. More moments like being trapped under the car, moments that focus in on unexpected but feasible suspense help bring out realism and more investment. In a movie about blind aliens, the least realistic part was Frodo. I've raised cats all my life and not even a Marine Secret Service Judo-Trained service cat would get half the distance it did in the movie, much less find his way back to owners in complete silence. It's silly, I know, but it constantly took me out of it.
I liked this movie. Not overwhelmed with nonsense explosions. Well acted.
Enjoyed it very much
I hate animals in movies because they just do stupid things to get the characters in trouble.
Luckily in this movie I didn’t feel that was the case.
Just got back. It's mid. Wait for it to hit streaming
Haha, great intro!
Dan can't thank you enough for this review for putting spoilers in. Not gonna lie I committed movie crime, I watched the spoilers without seeing the movie. I love my cats, I just can't see a cat death so I had to see what happens which I won't say to see if I wanna see the movie.
Not as good as the first 2, but still great! I don’t understand the hate that some are giving it.
Just saw it. I loved it. Man this is a sad story. I mean, it’s basically a girl whose last wish is to have a slice of pizza.
I loved it. I didn’t see the second one but I liked it a lot more than the first
no hollywood cheese and a lot about her art. it was so good
We equate cats and dogs, in the context of films like this one, as small children needing protection. I think it is that simple.
