Strike King Coffee Tubes are a mainstay in my boat....I’ve often speculated that scent is less about attracting fish, and more about disguising the human scent left by your hands when rigging them.....who really know though....lol
Its scientifically proven through studies that a woman baiting your hook will catch more fish this is due to the fact apparently fish dont find the scent of a woman as offensive as a mans. Which might explain when you fish with your wife etc they do seem to catch more fish. Just a fun fact.
Chris McCuaig it’s scientifically proven that my wife sometimes catches more fish than me because she won’t bait her own hooks, remove her own fish from the hook or run the trolling motor, thus her line is in the water more than mine 😂
I'm a coffee roaster. The reason for the bubbles is not moisture. It's caused by trapped CO2 in the coffee beans. This is also the reason fresh roasted whole bean coffee bags are always puffed up. The beans off-gas CO2 into the bag and fill up that space and squeeze out the oxygen. This is why coffee bags have a one way air lock. Many people think it's so you can smell the coffee, when in reality, it's to keep the bag from exploding from the pressure that builds up as a result of the off-gassing process.
Thought you'd appreciate it. While the heat set off the reaction, I'm just wondering if running the coffee through the vacuum chamber for maybe 10 minutes, before adding it to the hot plastic, might reduce or eliminate the bubbles. May be worth a shot. I'd be interested in knowing if that helps.
I know this vid is a year old, but espresso is stronger, and already powdered. From what I saw in this video, using that may be better to use in general. Love your vids!
I’ve used coffee scented lures quite a bit. I have never thought about mixing it in. Great video and I too loved that color on that first one. Natural Coffee
Tis the season for creepy and spooks, what about a fun video of making jello fish baits for Halloween parties or just for sillies? Congrats on growing your channel, I have really enjoyed your content.
Another lovely yet different bait making video. No i haven't fished with coffee scented baits before. My scent of choice is Smelly Jelly "Crawdad" for worms and jigs and slower moving bottom baits and "Shad" scent for swimming and top water baits. Anyways, another outstanding video in the books. Thank you much for an enjoyable post.
Something that I think would work really well is a coffee twin tail grub with red and gold flake with a watermelon red or green pumpkin skirt. Love your videos man! I am a middle school band director and appreciate every drum roll/cadence!
You should bake your coffee grounds at about 180F for about a half hour on a baking sheet to dry them out. When casting with certain metals it is required to heat the mold to dry the surface even beyond what you believe metal to be dry. This is because there is a slight amount of moisture on the surface and in the air that gets trapped underneath your pour. I assume this to be similar with coffee ground. Each and every little ground has a bunch of surface area for moisture, and they are hydrophilic.
I was thinking...I haven't seen a Worlds Worst Fishing video for awhile. Did my notification bell get turned off? Oh, its only been 4 days since his last post, seems so much longer. I think I'm addicted!
Glad to see someone releasing their catch appropriately. When some channels start throwing their fish into the water, I turn the channel an they get a thumbs down. Good on you bud.
I love this. I have been looking to make some small crappy bait for this winter and was wondering about scents. Do you know about how much scent from the companies who sell scent would go in 1 cup of plastisol?
That reminds me of the lake in Diamonhead MS I wonder how something more fine like instant expresso would work, it's really fine like a dust (granted there is probably some rough blends out there) but it should have a lot more coffee scent to it as well.
So I am just getting started with making baits and a got a lot for it and my plastsoil is pretty clear and I tried to make a batch today but it didn’t work. Any tips
I was told nightcrawlers could be fed with coffee grounds. after a few days in there the worms took on an irridescence inside I had never seen before. Did it effect the taste or smell of the worms? hard to say. fish rejected some and ate some. good to see some real science going on out there. thanks.
I live about 20min from lurecraft its awesome to see people all around the U.S using their products, if your ever in Indiana you should come visit the store
Well it's not all that complicated thanks to the R&D that Plastisol manufacturers put in to their blends...me personally I think the dead on plastix blends fit well with their purpose... Depending on what style of bait you want to make there is a plastic just for that.
Nice Grind !! ... Coffee scented Baits ... You should give Garlic Powder and Curry Powder a go ... about 2 :1 garlic to curry .... Have tried this combo with minced meat with great success in the Salt water ... Well Done !!
Ground coffee is pretty moist tbh, or it's old and kinda bad (to make coffee from). Maybe microwave it spread out on a plate before mixing with plastic to dry it some, if you don't have a vacuum chamber like I don't. Might not be as bad with bubbles. I might test if it works for north European perch.
I believe mine deserve the best. Black Rifle coffee. I toast it on a sheet pan. Any moisture in the coffee is evaporated. After that it goes in the mixer and turned into dust. It's a pearl powder, but not.
Personally I would have used a finer grind like an espresso dark roast. I roast and grind my own coffee and Folgers is stinky and weak. I have to try making some. Thanks for the show today.
Hey Chris it's Sal. I want to get started in making worms. I went on angling AI, could not seem to find a mold for 5in worm's. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Chris, I just did my first batch of coffee worms. Here a link! facebook.com/horkerbaits/posts/120493189562729 All I have to say is Wow! These came out almost black. I drink dark roast coffee and dumped as much as you did in your batch. Way different results. Dark Roast is a whole other animal. Since they cook more of the moisture out of the dark roast I had no issues with the air bubbles like you did, the batches I did all came out perfect. Just real dark in coloration. Make the flake snap though. I love how the green sets them off. Next batch I think I'll only use two teaspoons of the coffee instead of four, even the 1/4 cup of salt didn't help. They do smell great though and I'm looking forward to seeing how they produce for steelhead here in the Pacific Northwest. These should kill clear water sunny days. Anyway I love your work Chris, your eye for color is impeccable. I'm totally new to the plastics game. My company was founded on fishing beads made of natural stone, then we moved into spinners. My pro-staff convinced me to add soft plastics to the mix and Horker Soft Baits was born. Now we are doing soft fishing beads and the worms. It's all about steelhead in my neck of the woods. If you ever get tired of Florida fishing scene, let me know we have cookie cutter 5-8 lb. steelhead and 10-15 lb. salmon out here that will give you a thrill.
@World'sWorstFishing I'm wondering if the solid grounds seemed to have have any effect on the overall plastisol integrity. I was thinking it might be possible to "brew" coffee in some kind of oil in a saucepan on the stovetop, let it cool, and then rig a filter to collect just the oil and use that instead of the solid grounds (which might end up decaying inside the plastic over time, not too sure). EDIT: Fishing at the end reminded me of King of the Hill episode where Hank's secret bait is some kind of narcotic XD +1 Like :)
Your amazing sir I love your baits and your work. I wish I could fish some of your baits and one day I will, I have got my kids watching your channel and they love you to they want me to make baits like you but I told them I'm not as good as you or have the money. I wish I could maybe make us some hand pours or you know find out how to make them and let the kids help me but sir your amazing live your work keep it up
Have you ever used coffee scented baits before???
I tried coffee scented baits years ago and where I'm at I seem to have caught a lot more cat fish for some reason
yeah they def work well!
Could you just put the coffee in the vacuum chamber and then in the plastic?
Wonder if you could add silica packs to take the moisture out of the grounds?
Yes coffee flavored tubes..smallmouth bass love them.
Got me thinking about all sorts of other spices in your baits.. bet turmeric would make a good yellow.
What's up Nate! Yeah the entire spice cabinet might be a new frontier. Yellow curry, brown sugar...who knows.
@@WorldsWorstFishing Curry is excellent for Carp according to a few of my friends
Does this mean that we will see a lipless carved out of Ginger next time?

I love this. I have been looking to make some small crappy bait for this winter and was wondering about scents. Do you know about how much scent from the companies who sell scent would go in 1 cup of plastisol?
you want to add scent to the bags after the baits are done...just a few drops.
Those are really cool colors with and without the flake. I would fish both colors.
Yeah they are ready to go for my next trip!
With the Florida humidity, do you think baking the coffee grounds in the oven to dry it out more would reduce the amount of bubbles?
