I have inherited muscle dystrophy and it’s affecting my joints, it’s affecting my joints and particularly my knees , they used to swell up ,creaky and pain but as soon as I started my collagen supplementation they after a year have gone back to normal. I am 73. I started using collagen about 6 months ago. My nails are stronger - am able to grow them for the first time in my life. My hair is thicker and my skin healthier. I'm getting physically younger! This is not an ad!
If you want results, you have to!!! and have a clean miche good protein preferably vegetable plenty of sleep and good recovery ... And that's it, without hard work you won't gain anything, I've gotI'm 48 years old and I've built my muscles by working hard, it's a wonderful feeling, the more you work, the more you want to....:)))
I have competed in the Olympic games and track and field, and I'm now 60 years old. I have been coaching athletes for the last 30 years to make Olympic teams and set world records. One of the most outstanding things that I have ever seen in connective tissue strengthening and recovery for myself and other athletes, was to add collagen along with whey protein. Collagen has more l-glutamine than whey protein when it comes to amino acid breakdown, and over the last 30 years, I have personally had over 100 people tell me how much their joints feel better after using collagen peptides. I hold several world records for the age group in track and field. I am coaching an athlete on his nutrition who is 53 years old and just set the world record in the 200m for the over 50 athletes, and yes he is using collagen. Olympic athlete Wyndell Dickinson
I tore my meniscus a two years ago and was completely unable to be active for 8 months and at that point I decided not to do surgery but rather use heat, redlight therapy, vascular dilation via cinnamon and beet poweder along with with eating ground up cartilage and collagen. I made a full recovery and can hammer out 24 mile hikes again.
I'm so happy that you did a video on collagen ! I have supplemented it and my arthritis stiffness and pain has lessened considerably. I feel better when i pair it with keto ! I am 58 years old and feel worlds better than i did in my 30's.
Which brand of Collagen do you take? I'm asking to see if theres anything that can help me with my lower back pain stiffness and joint pain...also osteoarthritis in my hips :(
Same. Started on the collagen and my hair is growing nice and thick and even my eye lashes, brows and beard is coming in thicker. Have also started on silica too.
I take an amino acid complex all week and collagen 5 days a week. Prior to this regimen I had body aches and pains, hair loss, and poor muscle retention. At 45 years old I'm near peak overall performance for my age.
I’m 60 & in great shape. A few years ago I started getting crepey skin on forearms & thighs. I started supplementing collagen & after a few months….. no more crepey skin. Great, informative video.
Me too! I started noticing crepey skin on my arms at age 52. Staring taking collagen daily and 3 years later my skin is supple and has a sheen to it. It’s been a miracle for me.
I'm 71 and have played the guitar -- finger-pick style -- since I was a teenager. When I turned 60, my nails could not keep up, and they became very thin and brittle. I tried all kinds of things including Biotin and topical oils, but nothing made them stronger. Playing classical guitar without nails is not very enjoyable. Nine months ago I started taking Collage Peptides -- 5g morning & evening. Within a couple of weeks I noticed a significant improvement in nail strength. My nails are now very strong, grow quickly, and I can finger-pick like I did in my 40's. So -- for me, anyway -- Collagen Peptides are my ticket to strong nails. Also, they're inexpensive and simple to use (compared to eating meat regularly): a tablespoon in my morning coffee and another in my evening tea. Playing guitar has never been more enjoyable.
One thing collagen definitely does is reduce skin dryness and increases smoothness and general health of skin. Substantial and lasting improvement within a week of taking it for me.
@@bass1bone Fortunately, for the haters there are *seven* systematic reviews/meta-analyses published. There isn't much doubt any more that collagen causes skin to become more hydrated, elastic, & less wrinkled.
Thanks so much for covering this research. I started taking collagen supplements several years ago, and the benefits were so clear that I just ignored all the naysayers. I don't pretend to know more than doctors or scientists; but just because the medical profession doesn't know *why* something works a certain way doesn't mean that it doesn't work. It just means they don't yet know the reason it does. I'm very skeptical of medical professionals insisting that their knowledge of the human body and nutrition is complete and unquestionable when we know there's still a lot that is unknown.
@@Glockhead1 @leeannr6081 The mountain of anecdotal information, combined with hundreds of scientific studies, leave little doubt that collagen works. Before I started studying collagen, I had tried it and could see the difference.
Collagen in any form is useful. I started using it as chicken bone broth some years back & it returned functiin after increasingly disabling arthritis. Additionally going low carb has put it into remission. Adding in bovine & marine collagen peptide powder brought additional benefits to my nails, hair & skin, & I can only assume this is likewise internally. We now eat casseroled lamb shanks, pork hocks, chicken on bone etc in adfitiin to the peptides, which are so hanfy for travelling or warmer weatjer, just in coffee or sprinkled in food or drink. Pain & lack of function, & likewise cessation of pain & return of function, are great teachers, if we choose to listen.
Yes! Bone broth is a fantastic food and supplement. I've been making it for my mom for about 10 years now and she has no issues with her joints. She's a 70 year old senior who lives at a 5 floor without elevator, walks her 10k+ steps a day and never has joint pains. Couple of years ago she fell and had so called "typical wrist fracture" (it's when we instinctively bend our wrist in a fall to help absorb the fall), she had both bones broken and needed an operation. She recovered quickly from that and when we went to the physycal therapy 2 months after operation, the doctor said: I don't need you here, You have full range of motion in place. People can say all they want about bone broth being a placebo, but I will swear by it. When I see how other seniors her age struggle just to walk with their stiff, achy joints, it breaks my heart to see how they struggle to do these mundane activities. And then I look at my mother who doesn't have these issues I'm happy that we made her religiously drink her cup of bone broth a day for a decade and ignored the simplictic sentiment of "oh it's just a protein".
Can you name the bovine/marine collagen peptide powders youre using? I find Ancient Nutrition chicken bone broth protein powder to be very nice as well. Easier to digest as a protein powder than whey, with the added benefits of having collagen. Not tasty in the slightest and less versatile than whey, but in a fruit smoothie its pleasant in its own way.
@@SuWoopSparrow I'm assuming that You've asked me about the products I'm using and I'm happy to share! We mostly rely on home made chicken bone broth as it is the cheapest way for us to ensure constant supply of collagen for daily consumption, and also it is more nutritios way of consuming collagen as it comes packaged with other nutrients such as glucosamine, chondroitin and other goodies that leech from bones in the broth. Most of the times I "stretch" out my bone broth batch by adding some gelatin soaked in water to my cup of bone broth. Paralel to bone broth consumption I add a small scoop (5-6 g) of Myprotein brand collagen peptides to coffee, coffee alternative and cacao drinks, but these are not super regular unlike daily bone broth. So, in essence, it is (1) home made strong bone broth, (2) gelatin and (3) Myprotein collagen peptides in occasion.
I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and have been told by every doctor going that collagen won't work. That being said I hate my doctors and still take liquid collagen daily. I'm pain free and in better shape than anyone else I've met with this condition and that's after losing a kidney from it. Vitamin C and copper are also helpful but I've found it takes a few months from starting to notice a difference and I wonder if a lot of people don't see results fast enough and stop taking them.
Thank you for sharing this. I've always suspected it may benefit some people with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome & was suprised when some said otherwise.. but some with EDS seem to think veganism will help... (I suspect it would make it worse, but people 'want' to believe, sometimes.)
I'll add, different collagen sources have differing properties & benefits, so diversifying might also be helpful. I take chicken, bovine, pork & marine.
Good for you in staying consistent to better your symptoms!!!!! Incredible!!!!! Seriously though, people suffering from whatever symptoms expect an overnight cure - patience and consistency... you're living proof.

A month ago I started taking hydrolyzed bovine collagen because my hair is getting thin and I was hoping it might help that situation (I'm opposed to pharmaceuticals). I can't tell if it's helping in that regard but it's definitely making my skin look better- firm and smooth.
Have you tried deparasitization with medicinal turpentine? I know it has helped me with my scalp a lot, and my eyelashes are so much thicker since I made that a habit.
@@nikitaw1982 it has helped my IBs. It took 6-8wks and I take one thru Dani Williamson wild and well website. I found her on insta. I still have to avoid my triggers. Raw onion, iceberg lettuce, cows milk that is not organic are some of mine.
I have been supplementing with around 10 grams of glycine, 3 of taurine and getting my other collagen things from eating chicken with skin on and sardines.
@@presence5426 Probably the most noticable so far is getting really good night sleeps, like through the night 8-9 hours, where before the supplementation it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for me to wake up in the middle of the night and struggle to get back to sleep. I feel like my skin feels softer too? like in a good way, less dried out maybe.
I take collagen, Glycine and also Vit C & hyaluronic acid powder (just put it in water), pretty good stack for wrinkles I guess. I also heard K2 is actually beneficial for preventing wrinkles! K2 is also highly relevant for your tipical age related degenerative diseases, it makes the Calcium and minerals go to the right places instead of Calcifying things and creating -itises.
Boil down pork bones, beef bones and chicken feet for collagen broth. Period. No need to buy collagen supplements. Makes for great soups and ramen broth.
This was known back when Knox brand gelatin was told they could no longer advertise drinking gelatin as a means of strengthening finger nails and hair.
You're correct. It has been thought that various animal proteins, including gelatin, were beneficial for tissue regeneration. There are articles from the 1970's discussing peptides. Shame they didn't do more research back then.
@@stevenmichaelson8960 They both work. Collagen, being a protein, can turn into gelatin through processing. Such as heat. Both can yield amino acids & bioactive peptides in the human digestive tract.
Ive been taking 10 to 20 grams of collagen peptides for 6 years. 59 year old female. Work 10 hours a day and then head to the gym for weightlifting for an hour and a half. Been carnivore for almost a year. 110 lbs, good muscle build. Nails are crap, and hair has slowed down to almost no growth. Skin looks really good. Not many if any wrinkles. I always say im afraid to stop taking it lol. I own a burger restaurant, and my lunch every single day is 10 oz. Patty, sometimes a fried egg, and butter. I crave this every day.
Whenever I eat eggs I peel the membrane off the shells and cook them with the eggs. I believe they are type 2 type 5 and type 10 collagen. My joints feel great at 56 yrs old.
Type 1, 5, 10. I'm a fan of ESM. You are wise to use those membranes. They contain not only collagen (~25%), but other proteins, chondroitin, glucosamine, hyaluronic acid, and elastin.

I've read that gelatin, which is just cooked collagen, is absorbed better by the body than collagen. Homemade jello is simple to make with gelatin and a healthy sweetener like xylitol and some fruit or fruit juice.
Likely true. Heating a protein for a long time breaks down the structure into smaller proteins. This apparently makes the protein more digestable. So in theory, more bioactive collagen peptides would be absorbed. Pork gelatin has been extensively used in research and gets results.
Ive been using collagen for 3 years….Im 54 and look 40 with no wrinkles or crows feet. Less achy joints. Hair and nails grow fast and healthy. I also seem to be able to recover easier after a hard workout.
I have noticed that, since starting on collagen each morning, that I have less stiffness in my hands, even when they’re feeling cold. Do I have fewer wrinkles? I wish I could say yes, but, uh, at 76 I’m not sure that’s a good question - or fair one. 😂 I’m satisfied with less stiffness and, hopefully, strong bones.
I'll add my gratitude as well. Thanks for the clarification. I've been supplementing hydrolyzed collagen as well as collagen through diet. I consume a lot of homemade burger patties minus the bread. Only garnish is salt and pepper and lightly cooked in a monounsaturated oil. I'm able to sustain a somewhat heavy resistance training regimen of about three times per week without any joint problems or injuries. I'm 67 years old. Have a good one.
My mother never used collagen and she has not taken care of her hands because they will always crack and she's diabetic which that doesn't help. I told her star taking collagen and three weeks later her hands were not cracked anymore and she still doesn't use lotion that often and she has not tried any other new lotion that would have made a difference. So yes it was from the collagen and my dad has arthritis and it has helped him. When I get injured I take a higher dose of l lysyne and i take my collagen supplement, it just extra dose of l lysyne but i dont over do the amount. and I'm better in a week or two. If I don't do it, it will take me a couple of months in healing. I always have had problems with healing and I take all my vitamins.
All I know is that I started using collagen in my mid 40’s and can def tell the different. So does my wife. I would love to not spend the money but if def works. My recovery after 3 sport surgeries was compared by my surgeons to individuals in their 20’s. Snowboard 40+ times a season and climb just as many days with min recovery needed in between
I feel like the video fails to address the main criticism/concern of collagen supplementation, there is a lot of evidence that collagen IS beneficial in many areas. What is unclear is if collagen is MORE beneficial than just supplementing with protein, or just having a protein rich diet. All the studies mark collagen against a placebo, what we need to start seeing is studies that mark collagen against other forms of protein. Collagen became a popular supplement because its cheap to make and collagen is a good catchall for aging that everyone wants an easy solution to, so its an easy profit line for supplement companies, and since so many people have bought into it everyone is eager to like videos like this that play into their confirmation bias. This video doesn't actually address the crux of the criticism of collagen, which isn't whether its effective, but whether its superior to a protein rich diet (I do realize Thomas addresses this real quickly by asking if whey does the same thing for skin health, but he just quickly says no and doesn't cite any studies, which is odd since the video cites 11 other studies for collagen vs placebos).
Pork rinds, chicken with skin, gelatin and bone broth are way more enjoyable ways to get collagen than collagen supplements. Collagen supplements are likely helpful for some people but I think most could just eat foods with it. It is also great to use those foods in recipes, add bone broth to veggies, pork rind panko, and so on.
@@Alex-ml3zx Also good , as many other high collagen cuts and traditional foods. However you would be wrong, gelatin is pure collagen, bone broth can be up to 20% collagen depending on how do you make it, pork rinds are about 70% collagen. Chicken with skin, not much collagen compared to the rest but it has some. But it is not an either or situation, you can have both and have variety.
@michaelscarport Or make gelatin deserts or gummies. Easy to make low carb , with the right sweeteners it is as good as high carb ones (I use erythritol + sucralose ).
Bone in ribs are another great way to get a lot of collagen in. All that facia. Both beef and pork. I like putting the collagen powder in my butter coffee and pouring it into the blender for a latte like brew.
Thanks for the video! I actually would appreciate you evaluated the form of collagen supp product to look for, collagen is not just collagen, there are different forms of it. Not everybody eats meat, in fact, less and less r people. However, finding the highest-value collagen is a struggle by itself. This would be the topic for a separate video, Thomas!
Collagen has worked for me in a way i never imaged: started to take 10g of hydrolised collagen because of a tendinitis, my podologist said it couldnt hurt to try. One month after my tendinitis pain disapeared and i had a bonus of clearing out my adult acne (i always had adult acne, tried everything and just gave up). Dont know why, but the only change i did that month was taking collagen. 3 years have passed, stil taking it every day and acne has completely disapeared like the tendinitis pain.
Any animal skin has collagen, it's why I eat the skin on chicken wings, but it's hard to do when the skin hasn't been rendered completely and soft but when crispy you can't beat it!
@@Earwaxfire909 Cool! I just might have to check those out. Better than corn or potato chips, lol. But I'm blaming you when my girlfriend glares at me for bringing home pork rinds. 😉
Decent video, right on some of the basics. Lots of minor errors though. I'm sure ground beef does have collagen in it. But how much? I seriously doubt the efficacy of undenatured collagen intake from ground beef has been studied. What has been studied is supplemental collagen made from pork gelatin, chicken cartilage, fish skins, eggshell membrane, etc.
I sous vide chuck roast for 36 hours every time it's on sale. Plenty of collagen in that. Costco has a decent price on 100% grass fed and grass finished 1/3-pound ground beef patties, which make decent burgers. I also make bone broth to consume when I break an extended fast. PS: I do also add collagen peptides to coffee, and to my protein shakes.
I suspect it's the same as Creatine and other supplements if one already has sufficient stores in one's own body. I take Collagen Peptides for my joints, where years of PT and mobility exercises failed to decrease the pain and noise (snap, crackle and pop, but not a breakfast cereal). Candidate for surgery, but wanted to try Collagen Peptides first and over time (as all supplementation is not a short cut) the same level of PT and mobility exercises succeeded. I can do deep asian squats and full hip flexion without pain and also no joint noise. Separately, I'd also been treating my NAFLD with NAC in combination with the Glycine (about 4g) in Collagen Peptides. My liver health markers has improved greatly. One might argue that the lack of pain allows me to exercise more, but there have been a lot of studies about Glycine and NAC producing Glutathione. Even if Collagen never helps muscle gain (already take whey protein for that and have for some time), the rest of the benefits I have experienced is worth the expense.
On average beef contains 2-3% collagen. If you ate a 10oz steak converted to grams (283.495@2%) that would be 5.6699 grams of collagen. At 3% of a 10z steak it would be 8.5 grams of collagen. Of the two different collagen supplements I take, they contain 20 grams of collagen per serving. I would have to eat roughly 25 to 40 ounces of steak to get the same amount of collagen in one serving of hydrolyzed collagen peptides? Correct me if I'm wrong. I have heard most of the collagen is in the bones and skin of the beef, and most if not all the collagen in hydrolyzed beef collagen peptides comes from the skin/hide. I would say eat a healthy/normal amount of beef with collagen supplement is the way to go.
I’m 43 and had occasional finger joint pain (especially the finger I sprainedyears ago). Started taking collagen, and some time after I noticed that I don’t ever have this ache now.
Two things that I've learned in life, my collagen type one capsules take my knee pain away, and vitamin d3 tablets (one a day) stops all flu viruses etc, ...❤️
I was having bad knee pain, dr gave me anti-inflammatories; it did not help, I really wanted them to work. I started making my own chicken bine broth making sure I got any cartilage & tendons in there. I would drink 2 cups a day & it would help my knee pain. It helped for quite awhile & I got out of the habit & over taxed my knees at the gym. This video was a good reminder to start that back up regularly.
I have always loved the skin and gristle from chicken and fish. Not going to say I knew the benefits or was ahead of the curve, it just tastes damn good. Nature knows.
gristle tastes good?? i thought gristle were those chunks that could be chewed on for hours without breaking down. when i was little my babysitter used to make us choke them down whole or she would beat us with sticks. You would have loved it.
Muscle protein synthesis is not the same as collagen protein synthesis. While present in muscle tissue biopsies, it is a very small amount. Likely most clinical studies volunteers are less likely to desire tendon, ligament and cartilage biopsies as those do not recover quickly.
I don't claim science but I had open wounds with big holes due to type 2 diabetes problems that would not heal even going to a wound clinic at the Hospital tried everything and after five months of little progress a nurse there mentioned collagen so I bought some at WM two weeks later completely healed I would say it really seemed to help.
I haven't read studies on it yet but I've heard that heat can damage/dissolve the peptides to a degree, so it might be worth looking into either mixing it into cold brew as opposed to hot coffee or having the collagen with something else to optimise the added benefit of collagen
@@aloah030 Very high heat is required to break down protein bonds. It could be true that mixing collagen powder into coffee is sub-optimal for some reason (increased stomach acid?). But hydrolyzed collagen powder contains a bunch of peptides (short amino acid chains) of various lengths. For the bioactive peptides to get absorbed, they have to make it into the small intestine, without getting broken down by stomach acid & proteolytic enzymes. Though, very small quantities get absorbed (di- & tri-peptides) anyway.
@@presence5426 Very interesting, thank you for the info. Do you reckon it might be better to have collagen on an empty stomach then, to avoid it lingering in the acids for too long?
@@aloah030 That's what I do- mostly I take my various sources of bioactive peptides on an empty stomach. But this is theoretical. The body's peptide transporters apparently love di- & tri-peptides, and will suck them up quick. Any protein source you take has to go thru stomach acid & proteolytic enzyme assault, and may be broken down almost completely into AA's. With a large meal, the assault is greater. Probably a small amount of peptides are absorbed regardless.
I've been eating almost exclusively eggs and ground meat for 10 days and my skin has become so soft and elastic it's actually creepy, I feel like a newborn and I don't take any collagen supplement.
I happened to read a study that showed "abnormal" glycine deficient collagen preceded arterial calcification. meaning the body was using calcium to strengthen weak arteries because it didnt have enough glycine. collagen is so underrated. Probably the most essential supplement.
Collagen is not the same from any source. it seems that certan fish collagen is more bioavailable then other ones, including red meat, which is not good source anyway - its quite expensive if you want to consume it for that reason, regarding to quality of the meat. You should analyse that part ,as well... One more important question . then what? :) I mean, what after that period of taking collagen suplement, and it has to be at least three (but ore likely six,and not to mention that it has to be high grade quality with combination of several types - I, III for instance) month long of ,in order to feel and see some improvements and effects. What happening with your own collagen production) Is it like steriod use - you have to take it constantly, because you interfearing with your hormonal structure and overall body productivity?
I hate gristle. Nothing ruins a good burger to me like that stuff. I'm not sure it is connective tissue containing collagen. My research shows it is fat from the deep fat stores. I have been blessed to find a couple of butchers who know how to keep the stuff out of their ground beef. I have also been blessed to learn about collagen as my body has a great need for it. I am grateful that Thomas has provided further info and clarification on the subject.
I am one of those people that has a negative reaction to Proline, an enzyme found prominently in collagen, gelatin and bone broth. If you start taking this and within a few days find yourself incredibly depressed for seemingly nonreason - its likely the collagen
I had no idea that collagen was in ground beef! Great! I love beef patties for breakfast - I cook a few, then just grab one from the fridge when I leave for work. Super easy.

Our bodies make peptides from amino acids. They are literally strings of amino acids, and our body can make any peptide it needs, to signal the body to send whatever amino acids it needs, to wherever they are required. Our body can make the required peptides from the amino acid pool of recycled proteins, 90 grams of which are resorbed into our intestine every day to be reused. As long as we eat protein containing foods (which is all foods, basically) our body can make any peptides we need, to signal our body where to place the amino acids, to make the collagen we need. We don't need to consume collagen to make collagen. When we consume collagen peptides that signalling occurs, and it takes the collagen amino acids to the connective tissue, but we don't need to consume collagen - our bodies can make our own peptides, and our own collagen. And it can make both peptides and collagen from the "magical" amino acid pool.
We do make endogenous peptides. And yes, we don't NEED to consume collagen to synthesize our own collagen endogenously. However, the specific bioactive peptides absorbed from collagen ingestion (hyp-hyp, hyp-pro-gly, hyp-gly, etc) are exogenous, and unique, to my knowledge. I have never seen a study showing that any of these are created endogenously. Even if they were, would it be in a similar amount to the exogenous peptides? A big reason why people are interested in collagen supplementation is that we synthesize less collagen as we age. And so ingesting a source of bioactive peptides is a way to "pump up" the body's collagen synthesis.
With all the different supplements out there, what is a good (doesn't have to be a brand) type of collagen/collagen peptide to take? Any collagen supplement, or what's the best maximized type?
I've looked for fun and they have no ground grass fed bizon. It sounds expensive AF anyway 😀 It's big business. A common bull would give them $35.000,- worth of meat (800 pounds) at the prices. I imagine a premium for a bison. Plus the hide for $200 boots
Essential amino acids are superior, but i take both because there isn't enough scientific evidence that shows EAAs more effective. I know it is from personal usage over 4 years but collagen is cheap enough that it doesnt break the bank to do borh
I’ve been taking 10g of collagen peptides mixed in my AM coffee for about 9 months. I haven’t noticed any noticeable improvements in hair or nail growth. Also, I’ve seen no changes in skin texture. No. Collagen is rich is non-essential AA's (proline, glycine, hydroxyproline). EAA supplementation is good. But hydrolyzed collagen gives us a dose of other aminos + bioactive peptides.
It works for many things, but it takes time. Also it tends to get used where the body think it is needed first. So not necessarily where you want it to work first. Example, you might want it to improve your skin, but your body might decide your joints or guts need it first.
To me collagen is an addition to my protein intake. I take it immediately post meals, to speed improvement in nitrogen balance and recovery. Not a pre-workout or post-workout supplement. There is an improvement in smoothness of contractions, movement and consistency in my workouts.

- Collagen is often criticized for being just a mix of amino acids, but it's more complex than that.
- Collagen consists of specific bioactive peptides that have unique effects on the body.
- The argument that collagen is unnecessary if you consume enough amino acids from other protein sources is oversimplified.
02:21 🌟 Collagen and Skin Health
- A meta-analysis of 19 studies with over 1100 participants showed that collagen supplementation significantly improved wrinkles and skin health.
- Collagen acts differently from other proteins and has specific benefits for skin.
03:32 💪 Collagen and Bone Health
- A study with 131 participants found that collagen supplementation led to increased bone mineral density and bone formation markers.
- Collagen peptides can positively impact bone health by promoting bone formation and reducing degradation.
04:27 🦴 Collagen for Joint Health
- Collagen supplementation was associated with a reduced score on the wac score, indicating improved stiffness in joints.
- Collagen can help alleviate joint stiffness, even if pain remains a separate issue.
05:23 ❤️ Collagen and Heart Health
- Consuming collagen peptides resulted in a reduction in toxic Advanced cation in product formation and arterial stiffness.
- Collagen may contribute to better heart health due to its role in connective tissues.
08:12 🍽️ Collagen Absorption and Supplements
- Hydrolyzed collagen supplements can lead to a significant increase in serum levels of collagen-specific amino acids.
- While food sources are ideal, supplements can provide extra benefits for specific needs, such as skin or joint health.
09:35 🔬 Understanding Bioactive Peptides
- Bioactive peptides in collagen act as signaling molecules, directing collagen to where it's needed in the body.
- These peptides trigger gene expression related to collagen formation, aiding in repair and maintenance.
11:51 🍔 Natural Collagen Sources
- Instead of relying solely on supplements, consider incorporating collagen-rich foods like ground beef into your diet.
- Collagen is not a scam; it plays a crucial role in tissue repair and maintenance.

Which collagen supplements have you been taking?

Vitamin C and copper are also helpful but I've found it takes a few months from starting to notice a difference and I wonder if a lot of people don't see results fast enough and stop taking them.

This was known back when Knox brand gelatin was told they could no longer advertise drinking gelatin as a means of strengthening finger nails and hair.

The headline scared me, but the content was just what I wanted to hear. Excellent news!

So it's ok to consume collagen powder with my whey protein powder? I kept them separate because I as afraid collagen may not be absorbed well.
I've been eating almost exclusively eggs and ground meat for 10 days and my skin has become so soft and elastic it's actually creepy, I feel like a newborn and I don't take any collagen supplement.
I experienced the same thing when I just started eating only meat…mainly beef.
And fat even without exercise turns into muscle
EGGS HAVE ALL THE AMINO ACIDS EXCEPT LYSINE..BEEF HAS AMINOS OF COURSE..BUT NOTHING BEATS HYDROLYZED COLLAGEN..NOTHING
One more important question . then what? :)
I mean, what after that period of taking collagen suplement, and it has to be at least three (but ore likely six,and not to mention that it has to be high grade quality with combination of several types - I, III for instance) month long of ,in order to feel and see some improvements and effects. What happening with your own collagen production)
Is it like steriod use - you have to take it constantly, because you interfearing with your hormonal structure and overall body productivity?
Collagen repaired my ganglion cyst on my foot, when l stopped taking it the cyst reappeared. My skin and nails tell me l need the supplement.
What about gellatin ? It’s much cheaper than collagen powder.
I am one of those people that has a negative reaction to Proline, an enzyme found prominently in collagen, gelatin and bone broth. If you start taking this and within a few days find yourself incredibly depressed for seemingly nonreason - its likely the collagen
Duuuuuuude start a skincare routine imediatly!
Thanks for the informative video!
I had no idea that collagen was in ground beef! Great! I love beef patties for breakfast - I cook a few, then just grab one from the fridge when I leave for work. Super easy.
Hello from Europe Mr Thomas. I like your channel and as long as you keep providing unbiased content i will continue following. The minute you stop beeing truthfull and unbiased i will never listen to you ever again. This is a great chanel keep doing the research for us. Great work. Great info. Nothing wrong with branding and marketing as ling as it doesnt affect INTEGRETY so market all the brands you need and want i dont mind as long as they are beneficial and dont affect integreaty. Thanks and support ❤
This is a new chapter for me to process and learn. Thank you so much 👍🙏👍 !
Always appreciate the updates 🙌🏼
Moriamin. Or Moriamin forte. What can you say about this amino acid formula?
whats the difference between say marine collagen, collagen with hyaluronic acid added or hydrolyzed collagen peptides ?
Sales patter get yourself a slow cooker fill it with free bones from butcher cook for 24 hours on low drink 2 cups a day refill enjoy
Not for anxious people or depressed cause of glutamate and histamine
I've looked for fun and they have no ground grass fed bizon. It sounds expensive AF anyway 😀
It's big business.
How do you get a blood test for collagen? My doc does vitamin D.
Can you talk about uc-ii for osteoarthritis please
I’ve been taking 10g of collagen peptides mixed in my AM coffee for about 9 months. I haven’t noticed any noticeable improvements in hair or nail growth. Also, I’ve seen no changes in skin texture. I must say that my joints don’t ache after doing heavy weighted dips or pull-ups at the gym. That’s something that’s always bothered my shoulder. I always thought was just part of the game. I’m in your 60’s BTW.
What is the brand/source (animal tissue) of the product you take?
@@presence5426 I’ve been using the Vital Protein brand. The one with VitC and hyaluronic acid. I believe it’s mostly type1 and type3 collagen though I may be wrong.
@@pacmanfl I believe that's a good product, and made from beef hide. It could be that you've had slight improvements in various body tissues, that are hard to notice. Bovine hide collagen is actually one of the least researched sources of collagen. You could try rotating to a different product (Ancient Nutrition's Multi-collagen) or bump up the dose to 15-20 g.
I started taking it for my joints. I really don’t care about any other benefits, but I did notice an improvement in my joints.
Maybe don’t take it with coffee and try warm water?
Just eat food guys - no need to waste ur money on the supplements.
Excellent! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. Im almost 60 and a runner - training for a marathon. I take collegen with C. It really does improve my joints and helps with recovery. Recivery takes longer as you age.
So.. Like BCAA? The most they say is: that if you get enough EAA, then it wouldn't be beneficial. But it could be.
No. Collagen is rich is non-essential AA's (proline, glycine, hydroxyproline). EAA supplementation is good. But hydrolyzed collagen gives us a dose of other aminos + bioactive peptides.
so what's the nutritional and functional difference between collagen and gelatin?
Which is the best type of collagen to take for the knees, type I, type II or type II ?
Get one with all three types…
It works for many things, but it takes time. Also it tends to get used where the body think it is needed first. So not necessarily where you want it to work first.
Example, you might want it to improve your skin, but your body might decide your joints or guts need it first.
Yes. Interesting theory. The old concept of "like cures like" is at play here. But it's not exact.
Drink whey protein 2-3 hours before you take the collegan on an empty stomach
So should I not drain my ground beef? I’m not on Keto. I watch my carbs but am not super low carb.
To me collagen is an addition to my protein intake. I take it immediately post meals, to speed improvement in nitrogen balance and recovery. Not a pre-workout or post-workout supplement. There is an improvement in smoothness of contractions, movement and consistency in my workouts.
Which is the best type of collagen supplement for the knees: type I, type II or type III ?
I take collagen powder because of glycine before bed. I sleep like a baby.
It works for me. I can literally feel and see a difference, with and without it.
Me too. And there are *seven* systematic reviews on collagen supplementation. All of them conclude that it works.
