  • A combination woodworking machine can be the best option for a small one man workshop. When space is limited, a high end combination machine can give you all the benefits of individual machines in a much smaller footprint. Changing from one process to another isn't really that big a deal if you plan ahead.

    I love the short fence. We have one on our 14” Tannewitz. No guard, no riving knife, but always a power feeder. It’s ripped miles of poplar and oak.
    I really enjoyed this video. I’m not a huge fan of sliders (odd for a production guy I suppose), but it’s a wonderful looking machine. Subbed!

      Thanks for watching @Hvn1957, yeah the short fence is a beauty. I think a slider really makes sense if you do a decent amount of sheet goods too. One of the nice things about the combination machine is being able to use the feeder on the saw, shaper, and jointer. Having a dedicated rip saw would be nice, but i'm so limited on space, i had to stick with a combination machine when i upgraded this machine.

    Thanks for posting the video! I myself am considering getting into some more serious woodworking, and a combination machine seems to tick all the boxes for me. It'll fit well into my somewhat small workshop. As someone with little experience with this type of machine, it was great to see how it actually works and the changeover between machines. I also noticed that you had a new CF741 on its way, and I'll follow how you get on working with that.

      Thanks for watching @thewoodscroft and i'm glad it has helped you. This type of combination machine is a really great solution to a small one man shop. I have now received the CF741s and it is a really nice machine. The longer slider will serve me very well in my business, and i'm sure the extra width on the planer will too! I have it commissioned and have started working with it already. I will definitely post some more videos soon so let me know if you would like to see anything in particular related to its use. Everything i can do on the new machine can be done on the old machine, with some caveats relating to size of course.

      Thank you for your answer. Exciting times with a brand new machine!@@brycecomerwoodworks I'm looking at a CF741 myself but thinking the large outrigger setup might be too wide for my shop. I only have just over 5 meters (about 16.5 feet) in width to work with. I assume you want at least 3-4 feet on either side of the machine to comfortably work with it. I'll do some more measuring to figure it out. Regarding content, there's not many videos on the CF741 on youtube that go into details so any content on that would of course be helpful to me and hopefully i'm not the only one. No specific use case though.

    Really interesting video…..I have the KF700s (Panel Saw with Spindle Moulder) which I really enjoy. I have a bit more space so a separate over under jointer planer and an extra spindle moulder seems to work for me for production work, but I can see how the combination machine would be fantastic if I ever downsized. Best regards from Australia. Greg.

      Thanks for watching Greg. Yeah space is my big limiter. I wish i had the space for stand alone machines but simply don't so the combination machine works for me. I just replaced my CF531 with a CF741s. I tried for a long time to figure out how i could get stand alone machines to work in my workshop, but just couldn't make it work. Sure i have the space for the machines, but then i'd have no space for work. I can't stand a cluttered workspace, and definitely didn't want to have to move equipment to use it. (I already do that with the boring machine but at least that just pulls forward from under the stairs). A combination machine definitely has its drawbacks, but with some planning for each job, a lot of those drawbacks are pretty small.

    Missing my CF741S Professional, mine had the electric motor to raise the bed on the planer....

    • @brycecomerwoodworks
      @brycecomerwoodworks  3 месяца назад

      I thought about electric raise and fall on the planer and saw, but it made the most sense to me to have it on the spindle moulder & have everything else manual for simplicity & cost. Sorry you no longer have your machine.

      The electric height adjustment for planer and the saw is a $5K++ increase!!!!

    Will the power feeder reach the table saw to help perform rip cuts?

    • @brycecomerwoodworks
      @brycecomerwoodworks  3 месяца назад

      Hi @whitehurstcustomwoodworking, thanks for watching. The power feeder sure does reach the saw, and the jointer as well. I use it mainly on the shaper, but also use it a lot on the jointer for flattening big long boards for entrance doors etc. The saw is actually where i use the power feeder the least though.

      Hi @martinbonifacekiria1858, thanks for watching. How much am i selling the machine for? Or how much work do i sell? I have sold the machine in this video and now have the next machine up in the Felder line, the CF 741S. If you are asking how much work i am doing with this machine, or type of machine, it is my full time job and it gets used on a daily basis. I hope this answers your question.

      @@martinbonifacekiria1858 i sold the machine for 13,000 Canadian dollars. You might find something cheaper, but i would expect to pay around that for a machine in good condition. Here in Canada they start at 26,000 new.

Sorry I'm amateur in woodworking industry what is best move to start a business between buying used machines or new machines and according to your experience is it best to start with light machines or heavy duty machines
