    Thanks Scott for this tip. American Airline flights from Toronto ON Canada are the cheapest so far. Will keep checking Avianca for when I am able to come explore Nicaragua.

    Scott - But the crux is when you actually "click through" on those (Avianca) flights the price easily doubles
    Then to add insult to injury the top level flight is zero checked and no cary on. They (Avianca) has a good better best schedual as well and it is very rare to get the top listed cost...

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  Месяц назад +1

      That's true, but also applies to all airlines differently. They all have their hidden costs. Spirit is the most clear, IMHO. Avianca hides a lot but still has good pricing. United's "you can't possibly get your luggage if you also have a job" policy makes flying them border on impossibly expensive.

    For that (silly) onward ticket requirement: make your own ticket! It's fun! Or some companies will make one for you for a small price.

    • @BillBlyleven
      @BillBlyleven Месяц назад

      So the onward ticket is not a Nicaraguan requirement, it is an airline requirement. You see the airline is responsible for your repatriation should you be refused admission to Nicaragua for any reason. Many airlines offset that cost by ensuring that you have a retrn or forward ticket that they can charge back the expance. As the chance of being refused is very low, but still the carriers want to be sure that expance is covered as a general policy

      Buy return whenever makes sense. Same time, while traveling. It'll be the same decision process as the original tickets.

      @@ScottAlanMillerVlog I’m not the best with figuring out how to book multiple airlines I fly out of nc most of the time but also can fly out of Dallas or San Antonio I drive a truck based out of tx near Dallas. My problem is I’m only allowed so many days off at a time so it’s extremely frustrating waisting a day with layovers . I also book round trip flights I’m scared if I don’t I won’t be able to get a flight back when I need to I’m new to this. I can’t wait till I just live there if I could figure out a way to make money there I’d move now . But most of my jobs were welding truck driving and school bus driver . I am not strong with computers.

    I 100% agree about United, but there are times their routing is preferable, really depends where you're headed. I'll be flying them in September, and they're Star Alliance which is my favorite points program, which can be a deciding factor for some travellers....
    On my return from Hong Kong to Managua two weeks ago, the final leg was United and due to flight delays with EVA Air, my luggage didn't make the IAH-MGA connection. I found the desk at Managua manned, they looked up my luggage, filled out a form, gave me a Nicaraguan number to call... and ultimately delivered my luggage the next day in a taxi. So; I guess I was lucky! And it was coming from another airline who was responsible for the delay...

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  Месяц назад

      Avianca is Star Alliance too.

    • @screamlab
      @screamlab Месяц назад

      @ScottAlanMillerVlog for sure, however at present you can't use points to get on their flights. It's an odd thing, you get points for flying them, but unless you're in the Avianca program, you can't redeem points for them. Air Canada (Star Alliance) doesn't show them at all in rewards flight listings.

    Just wondering if the small airport in Sutiava has commuter flights from say San Salvador or Tegucigalpa, or is it only for the small 2-4 seat cessna-type airplanes. My sister will be flying in next year (hopefully) from Scotland and I've told her about the Iberia flights from Madrid that terminate in El Salvador and Honduras. Exploring all options atm to find the best value (cost/(in)convenience). So saving some money at the expense of another day of travel via bus might not be worth it. Id imagine that a short flight from El Salvador or Honduras to Managua can't be too expensive.

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  10 дней назад +2

      It has no commuter flights whatsoever. There is no terminal. We would LOVE if it had that, we'd use it constantly.

    Hi there. Just wondering if you may have some information as to why Spirit Airlines suddenly cancelled all their flights from Sep. 1 to Dec. 4. We had booked a flight on July 5 to fly from FLL to Nicaragua on Oct. 16. Just this past Friday, July 12, I received an email saying the flight was cancelled. I talked to Spirit and they had no flights leaving in October and could not tell me a reason why they were all cancelled. And you can’t book any flight to Nicaragua from Sep 1 to Dec 3. I did get a refund but it did not include the trip insurance we purchased in case a major event happened and the flight had to be changed. I think I should get that money back as well since no major event occurred and we did not cancel our plans, but they cancelled the flight. This is my first experience with Spirit and the impression is not a good one.

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  Месяц назад

      you have more info than me. we've seen that everything was cancelled but we hadn't heard that you could book again in December. Spirit released nothing about this but we know other people who had flights refunded.

    Nomad Capitalist seems super scammy. Certainly his information regarding getting Nicaraguan citizenship is directly at odds with everything you've said on this channel.

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  Месяц назад +2

      I saw that he did one on Nicaraguan citizenship and I've not watched it yet. I need to check it out and see what he thinks that I've missed. I interviewed someone who got it recently (twice) and he said he knows of someone else that got it. And that they didn't have to do all the things that the law says. So I'm going to do some investigation into how things might be working "on the ground" from what little we can tell. But I doubt that that changes much, Nomad Capitalist tends to "feel like" he's just looking at websites and making video recommendations based on what sells, not on something substantial. But he's got some solid content sometimes too. He's not my channel vibe (he's just about money, not life) so not my kind thing but he sometimes has some unique angles.
