You couldn't drive up to the parking area? Why was that? Too early in the season? I went up as far as the flow in 2016 and have been plotting my return. I built a set of wheels for my kayak and am hoping that I will only have the three mile trek into the pond area. It is all DIY stuff so I also have a bicycle hitch that I crafted to tow the kayak behind. I'll probably bring a tent and stay a night or two.
You nailed it. They opened the gate the following week I think! Lol. Guys went in just as you described, pulling a canoe behind their bikes. Good luck!
