    I just bought my dads 09 Lariat with the 5.4 3v with 214,000 on it. I wouldn’t have bought it had it not been my dads. I know how well he took care of it. The motor runs great, as far as I know it’s never had major motor work done. I think it’s had some sensors replaced but beyond that it’s been a great truck. And I have no worries about the 3valve. From everything I’ve read it’s usually the guys that don’t change their engine fluids regularly enough that have had a lions share of the 3v issues.

    I used to do most of the basic maintenance myself on my truck: oil change, air filters, brake change, tire rotation, transmission fluid change (not flush), radiator coolant change (again not flush) but that was when i was a broke college kid and I had more time than money. Now with a fulltime job and kids I dont have the time and have the money to just pay a mechanic to do it.

  • @lockheed57

    This is all good advice for normally aspirated engines. Engines that have turbos should follow a different maintenance schedule. The ford ecoboost engine needs oil changes more frequent than every 10k. If you do your oil change at Ford, they use a synthetic oil blend. Turbo charged engines can run hotter and the turbos use the engine oil for lubrication and cooling. This kind of heat can be really hard on oil and engines when the change interval is streched to 10k. Changing oil more often can often add miles and reduce costly repairs to you ecoboost engine. Professional mechanics on youtube almost always advise to not follow Ford recommended oil change intervals and change oil more often.

    • @TheGoodeLifeOutdoors

      Thanks for this. I have recently sold this 2007, and just purchased a 2018 with the 3.5 Ecoboost. I know I will need to update my maintenance schedule for this engine. This is my first turbocharged engine, so will certainly be keeping it well-maintained for longevity.

    I don't follow owners manual recommendation. By that I mean I don't follow the 10k oil change. I do it every 5K miles with synthetic oil. I do use the recommended oil viscosity tho. Most items I do before recommendation. 100k spark plugs recommendation I do it at 80k. Coil packs were replaced when I did plugs as well. Fixed the hesitation. Now it purrs at idle. This is for 2010 Camry 2.5L i4. I have zero oil consumption issues compared to everyone having Camrys drinking lots of oil. I change coolant to oem long life every 3-5 years. I changed the water pump to oem this past summer and swapped out the coolant. Denso Alternator changed this summer also. I live up North so all the pulleys were making noise. Changed it all, both belts as well. I inherited the car with 150k. Now it's over 200k miles. I expect this car to go for another 150-200k easy. Just swapped her over to snow tires as well. It's got a larger V6 optima battery as well. It's a 2010 2.5L i4 air filter I run a K&N that I recharge every 6 months and when I do that I clean the MAF sensor with CRC MAF cleaner. I clean the car in and out. During the winter I take it often to clean the salt off esp the bottom and wheel wells. Engine I clean 1-2x a year as well. Much easier to work on, also can spot leaks easier.
    Only thing that bothers me is the clouded headlights. I have new ones I will install soon. Low beams are already updated to led bulbs.

      They never tell people to get their transmission fluid & strainer change that’s why people transmission go out before the engine. Just like get a oil change every 3,000 miles you need a transmission change every 30 to 50 thousand miles & if you do this your truck will stay on point

  • @rayraysmoove4823
    @rayraysmoove4823 2 года назад +3

    Change your transmission fluid & strainer before the transmission start to jerk or start slipping then it’s too late. People get their oil change every 3,000 miles. If they did the same for the transmission fluid every 30 to 50 thousand miles they wouldn’t have no problem with their transmission & problem solved. 💯

    • @TheGoodeLifeOutdoors
      @TheGoodeLifeOutdoors  2 года назад +2

      I aim to change spark plugs every 60k miles on my newer F150. I waited to change my 2007 plugs until the recommended 100k miles and ran into issues. Now those had a known issue with the factory plugs, but it's worth it to me to change them out more often. Watch the ignition coils, as those tend to go out without warning. If it's lurching on acceleration or running rough, that's my first thing to check. Keep the oil changed, and watch your coolant levels, and you should be ok.
