    Found this window while searching for information on how to deal with this problem. Had the window open and lock off in less than 5 min. Thanks..

    After replacing the lock and BEFORE testing the new lock, be sure to fix any issues that caused the lever to break in the first place. In my case, a screw was loose on the WINDOW where the locking pins are seated when in the locked position. The locking pin would slide over the loose screw when locking the window, but wouldn't slide back to unlock. (Sorry, I don't know the correct terms for the parts I'm referring to.)

    Is your lock universal? Will it work with Milguard window? It seems the Milguard window lock has 2 locking mechanisms. The slide portion as shown. However my broken lock will not budge as it feels like it’s locked in place

    Great! Now how do I get the lever out so I can stick the thin screwdriver into the hole? :-)

      If you still have any of the original lever remaining, you could try using a pair of locking pliers to grab hold of it and turn it that way. You could also try slipping a thin tool between the window frame and the lock to try and drag the mechanism down.

      @@SWISCO Slipping the thin tool in did the trick. Thank you!

      I have this exact problem, but with a “Truth” type lock. The lever has come out, but I can’t see anything in the hole to get a tool to push on. I just ordered 4 replacement locks from you guys.
      The problem is clearly a bad design by Truth in the retention of the locking lever; a thin pressure-fit washer is all that retains the locking arm! As can be seen in videos and how-to’s all over the Internet this is an all too common failure. A bolt or screw design would be far more durable.

      @@SWISCO What do you mean turn it "that way"? I'm trying to fix my locked broken lock and the level is fully intact and moves up and down. I tried inserting something between the window and the lock but I just managed to notch the wood of the window frame.

    But how does one do this if the handle hasn't broken off and has broken internally? My mechanism broke in the locked position and the level just dangles. Do I have to saw the handle off?

      If the internal mechanism is broken, you could try sliding a thin tool or old credit card between the window and the frame. Using this method, you'll want to move the tie bar and lock in the way shown at 0:28 in this video. If you are able to move the tie bar in this way, there's a chance the window will unlock. Otherwise you may be out of options and will have to cut into the lock body.

      @@SWISCO thanks so much. It took me a minute to figure it out, but your suggestion worked.

    im having this issue but the lever to the lock is still on what should i do?

    • @SWISCO
      @SWISCO  2 года назад +3

      There's two things you can try in this case... See if you can slip a thin tool such as a putty knife or an old credit card between the window sash and the frame. This will allow you to force the mechanism into the unlocked position. Otherwise, you may have to try and drill or cut into the locking lever to get it out of the way and get access to the internals of the lock. We highly recommend contacting a professional for this option if you are not comfortable with using cutting tools next to your windows.

      No way a credit card will budge these locks
