Big big thank you my son had lost his key we followed your instructions but we only replaced the barrel so didn’t need to measure anything. Daughter in law took the barrel we broke out to screwfix and the guy was helpful and gave us the barrel we needed for £12.. sure we saved my son a couple of hundred pounds THANK YOU!!!
Just watched your video, key snapped in lock in bag door, followed your tutorial and all sorted within half an hour and only cost me £14, brilliant thank you
Thanks for sharing your insights on this topic. Came in very handy when the key broke in the lock. I also got an added bonus as we'd lost the key to another door, which was locked. So, after breaking the second lock, I could use the new barrel to unlock the second door. All in all, your super easy instructions helped save the day and a ton of money. Thanks
A really excellent video, especially on how to measure the lock without having to break it first which allows me time to go to screwfix first and still leave the house secure. Thanks very much.
HI - wanted to thank you for giving me the confidence do this on my own door after losing all the keys. One thing to mention, there's more than just the length of the lock to consider, there's also the split - mine was 40 / 10 / 50 - this means it's 40mm on one side, then 10mm for the spinning thing in the middle, then 50mm on the other side. This will matter on a per-door basis as it dictates how much the lock sticks out on each side. There's a few difference sizes available, and when I put my new lock in the wrong way it was sticking out way too much on one side, and not enough on the other...so definitely worth getting the correct one! Easy enough to figure out - just measure the length each side from the middle.
Lost my keys , never ever done anything like this , however watching your video made it easy , and I’ve replaced the lock cylinder, thank you very much .
Brilliant tutorial, just followed this to replace a broken lock (jammed in unlocked position, but to remove the cylinder requires to turn the key slightly, which was not possible, so had to snap it as per this video)
Had an internal conservatory door that we've never had a key for since we moved in. Now our toddler can slide it open I needed to fix it and this video made it super easy. Thanks mate!
Awesome video and tutorial, the removal of the lock can also be done by hitting the top of the lock downwards with a hammer which cracks the weak point of the barrel in much the same way. Many thanks
Works a treat, spent an hour drilling out the cylinder, snapped 4 carbide bits and couldn’t get the last snapped bit out of the cylinder, I was ready to call a locksmith until this.
Great video! Helped me today. Had to drill out the lock as I’d lost the key. Snapped the double cylinder and got replacement. Worked a treat. Thanks for sharing.

This video saves me so much stress/drama was trying to drill out a lock that broke. Didn't have the grabbers but a hammer worked and in 1 try we could replace the lock!!
Great vid! We found it better to snap the lock from side to side rather than up & down. That said, we did it with one either side of the door with mole grips and it snapped first time. We did try it up & down but the grips kept slipping off. Side to side worked first time!

Thank you so much for this video, I'm working in Spain on a resort at the moment and have been left with lots of maintenance duties, there's 35 units so keys will undoubtedly get lost and I want to be prepared for the eventual lock replacement! Thanks again, much respect from Ireland.
First of all I would like to say a big thank you for your easy to understand instructions and hope u receive more blessings and goodness. Well the key got snapped from the inside of door and I tried to be clever and put super glue on the edges of the other part of the key and see if it somehow grabs the snapped bit inside the hole. Omg this made it worse and now the key wouldn't turn at all and was locked too. I guess the glue made it stuck 😂😂 well it was night so I waited the next morning. My landlord was like call the locksmith and they are pricey as hell which I wanted to avoid. So I googled it and your video showed up and was easy to follow and saved me so much money. Thank you for your help even without realising you helped someone in need.
Good job. I think ideally you don’t want the cylinder sticking out the other side though as it makes it too easy to grab on to, to snap it (with mole grips or a short pipe I believe they use). What some crook did to me though was insert a screw in to the cylinder a bit and then use a claw hammer to snap/rip it out. Luckily my neighbour disturbed them but they still knackered the lock. Replaced it the next day with anti-snap/bump/pick 👍🏻
Thanks for leaving a comment. I think you're right about the bit of cylinder sticking out the other side though. I did try to turn it round but as the cylinder is symmetrical it still stuck out as much. Maybe a slightly shorter cylinder would have worked. Ideally though, yes, you want an anti-snap/bump cylinder in there to really be secure. Thanks for watching!

Great little useful video 👍Think it's good you didn't edit out the unsuccessful lock snapping attempts as people would think doing something wrong if if didn't go on frst attempt.
Thanks for the video ... about to hammer it down or up instead of using a griper, is that an option, also either methodod , will it neve demage the inside case?
Great video I just have a question what if you have an anti snap euro barrel, I still cannot open the door because of the ant snap lock so I just want to know will I have to call a lock Smith for that or is there still a way to fix it without calling a lock smith
Thanks for video didn't want to near lock until knew for sure how it come out any idea if that will fix issues with lock getting stuck having to push back that square piece of lock which still seems to be attached to door after removing barrel the spring has Gon funny?
That would be the lock mechanism you're referring to I think. When you change the barrel, that won't sort out any problems with that. You would need to renew the lock mechanism.
The lock may be asymmetric (as it is on yours) so the length of the lock isn't sufficient to buy a new one. You should get both the inside and outside measurement and note that some locks have specific in/out sides with snap protection. Also specifically do get a lock with snap protection as otherwise criminals can do exactly what you did, just leveraging the outside handle out as well - no access to inside required. A snap protected lock will stop this. Also some locks may have bars that make snapping difficult so that it's not one solid piece of metal - they may not have any snap protection cut offs.
Good advice there. Yes, the best advice is to get an anti-snap lock of some kind! This door went out in to an enclosed garden that no one can get to so it wasn't as much of a concern really.
Thanks for the video well explained did everything and it has gone the way it went for you my only problem it I cant feel any cams with my Alan key. can you help
Great video thanks, and thanks for not cutting the attempts out of the video like many people do on these types of vids! If the lock had anti-snap, would drilling or picking be the only options?
Hi Have changed a few barrels in the past with the key, but my cylinders at my current house will not just slide out have tried turning the key slightly in all postions but just doesn't pull out any ideas, great video
This worked perfectly for me but I ended up using the little black mechanism that twists the lock normally but sticking it on the end of a big flat heat screwdriver
With the non-snappable kind (centre snap) I went through a few options and ended up with a vice-grips/lockable plier on one side (the short side, which was inside the house) and whacking standard hammer with medium force end on the long side - more leverage (it was facing out, seemed to me it should be installed vice versa but anyway).
Try using the screwdriver through a rubber band - might give you the grip you need. If you don't have one and your postie is anything like ours, the street outside your house will probably be littered with them..!
At 3:07 mins you remove the cam and drop it on the floor. I would suggest that you keep it and screw it on to the end of a piece of 10 or 12mm dowell rod. Then next time you can reinsert it and just turn it.

Pleased to hear it! 👍🏼👍🏼
You can also screw a thick self tapper into the key entry and use a crowbar
That's another idea! 👍🏼
Thank you. Got so far, and you did the part I wasn't sure of.
Glad i was able to help! 👍🏼
Amazing video, that's what I needed right now !
Perfect....thanks for commenting!
Good helpful video. The only thing i would add is not all cylinders are equal distance ie meaure 100 mm 50 50 but can be 35 65 etc
Yes I have spotted this when shopping for a new one! 👍🏼
Does this work with the key snapped in the lock halfway locked position?! Please many thanks in advance!
I would imagine having the key snapped off in there would be no different to the position I was in, so yes would be the same.
Thank you for this valuable video.
Helped me to change my lock.
Brilliant, glad to hear it! 👍🏼
That new barrel is a lock snappers dream, especially with the amount protruding externally.
We weren't too concerned on this one because it was on a door that goes to a back garden with no other access. 👍🏼
Thanks for the video well explained did everything and it has gone the way it went for you my only problem it I cant feel any cams with my Alan key. can you help
That bit is fiddly to be fair. It can take a while but you should eventually get there.
Hi. Would a hammer be ok to use instead of mull grips please?
@@graff.life.82 If you can be accurate enough it should be OK! 👍🏼
Great video thanks, and thanks for not cutting the attempts out of the video like many people do on these types of vids! If the lock had anti-snap, would drilling or picking be the only options?
Thank you, i like to show what it's really like! I've not had the misfortune of having to break an anti-snap lock, but i guess so, yes!
You would have to put the mole grips further down the lock barrel to actually break the middle
Big thanks to you
You really saved my money
Love to hear this sort of thing! Thanks for commenting!
Hi Have changed a few barrels in the past with the key, but my cylinders at my current house will not just slide out have tried turning the key slightly in all postions but just doesn't pull out any ideas, great video
Have you taken the screw out fully? Sometimes you may need to give it a good wiggle whilst turning the key maybe?
Thank you for this video, got me out of a jam 🙂
No problem, glad it helped!
Hi, I have got the same problem for my conservatory door. Please can you advise about anti snap cylinders?
I'm not really sure to be honest, I've never had to do one. I would imagine a locksmith may need to pick it perhaps?
This worked perfectly for me but I ended up using the little black mechanism that twists the lock normally but sticking it on the end of a big flat heat screwdriver
As long as it got the job done!
Glad you managed it in the end! 👍🏼
Good video. My question is though, the screw in my lock is rounded off. If I follow this and snap the lock, will the screw come out?
Yes, you may find it will, if it snaps in the right place. Other than that a screw extractor set may work?
Try using the screwdriver through a rubber band - might give you the grip you need. If you don't have one and your postie is anything like ours, the street outside your house will probably be littered with them..!
@@aviewfromthesaddle4160 Great tip! 👍🏼
Não sabia que poderia se partir ai dentro ajudo me muito obrigado pela dica
At 3:07 mins you remove the cam and drop it on the floor. I would suggest that you keep it and screw it on to the end of a piece of 10 or 12mm dowell rod. Then next time you can reinsert it and just turn it.
That sounds like a good idea! I've got rid of it now but will do next time!
Thanks. Our key had stopped working so we had to break the lock and fit a new one. This took a bit more effort but we got there in the end.
Pleased to hear it helped you out! Thanks for commenting!
Would this work an a lock for an outside shed have lost the keys but have access to the lock barrel
It should work for any lock similar to this one in the video. 👍🏼
@@charlieshooter thanks will give it a try
I owe you a pint mate! Excellent
