  • (CC) Did your window latch lock handle fall off?
    Is your window stuck in the closed position?
    It should be NO PROBLEM!
    If your latch looks like mine, I'll show you how to get the window open, and how to repair the latch properly quickly. I believe that the average person should be able to do this with just a few basic tools.
    NOTE;- The small retaining washer that I flattened slightly with the hammer is positioned with the centre that stands up, pointing "away" from the handle that it is being pressed onto (aimed towards the larger added washer).
    0:00 Intro
    0:10 Showing broken lever assembly.
    0:21 Opening the locked window.
    1:22 Removal of latch/lever assembly.
    1:38 Repairing the broken latch/lever.
    2:48 Reinstall the repaired latch and lever.

    Thank you so much for your video! You helped me fix my crank window that I couldn’t even open for over one year! I did this all in a few hours. I made the same repair previously, but the washer just fell off a short time later leaving my window locked in place. This time I watched your video. I followed your recommendation to flatten the washer and add another washer to back it up. Genius!

    A BIG thank you! I was able to get my window open and will have to replace the lever mechanism. You saved me $175 call from the company I bought the window from! Can you believe they were charging that much for a 10-15 min fix?
    Thank you for your excellent demo on how to do this myself!

    Thank you for the amazing vid! I just had new siding put on my house, and then the bathroom window broke. I was scared to have window replaced for fear the new siding would get messed up. Your video was a life saver, and so easy to do! Because of your vid, I thought to look for replacement parts, and found them also!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😊

    Thank you very much. This helped me open a windo that staued shut for at least a year. It turned out the latch was broken from inside. The metal part that is attached to the lever was physically broken. I will see if I have to replace it completely or get the small part that to be replaced. Either way, it was a great help.

    This video saved me, thank you for your efforts. The only part (and this might just be me) I didn't get clearly is the visual on which way to put the washer back on. I went with the facing it towards the 2nd washer so it is facing away from the handle. Ending with a thank you again, without vids like these people may be left to call a window company and not to take business from them but the world needs a lot more diy for the easy stuff.

      Hi, yes it's true that these are hard to find unless you know the manufacturer name and model of your windows. I think I would search "casement window locking handle" with the window manufacturer name included in the search? Thank you by the way!

    Hi there! Great video! Loved the step-by-step solutions! I have a question. My window lock level has not come apart, but it is stuck in the locked position. Would I be able to fix my lock using the same procedure, or would you recommend a different approach?

    • @mysimplefix
      @mysimplefix  3 месяца назад

      If the lock lever is stuck, then there may very well be a different issue going on. Possibly with another issue. Not sure what to tell you. 😞

    Cannot budge the lock. The lock is locked 😂 the Milguard seems to lock the slider mechanism. Like it needs to move out 1/4” before it will start to slide

      Do you have another window in your place that uses the same style of latching mechanism? If you do, you could examine its operation to get a better idea of how to get your latch to release?

    grrrr im renting an old apartment with this lock, and the landlords wont pay to have it fixed. My issue is that the lock arm wont go down all the way, so to lock it we push it as far as itll go down and it seems to do fine except when its exceptionally windy. it is super squeaky though. any ideas what might be wrong? or just due for a replacement?

    • @mysimplefix
      @mysimplefix  Год назад

      Yes, we have the same issue with our front facing windows especially when the weather is cold. This is just a guess on my part, but, I believe that the cause of the problem you are describing (that we have too) is that those rubberized weather strips that seal the window are getting stiff in the cold air, making them harder to compress by the window when that lever is pulling the window in. Please do make sure there is nothing like a branch of a small bush stuck in the window impeding the movement of the window.

    Trying this on a casement window of mine with the same model lock broken in the same way, but the putty knife doesn’t seem to “catch” on anything. Any ideas?

    • @mysimplefix
      @mysimplefix  2 года назад

      Do you have another window in your place with the same latch set up? If you do, then you'd be able to see what the linkage looks like.?

    • @lanman95
      @lanman95 2 года назад

      @@mysimplefix Yep, I have a few other windows with the same mechanism. I think the linkage broke off the vertical bar, leaving nothing for the putty knife to grab onto, and the bar firmly in the locked position. I think I might need to have the entire window replaced.

    • @mysimplefix
      @mysimplefix  2 года назад

      @@lanman95 That's a shame. I can't even picture how that rod could break? Hmmm. I hope this works out for you.

    • @SchmaveUCSB
      @SchmaveUCSB Год назад +2

      @@mysimplefix Mine was the same, but I ended up using a wire coat hanger to "fish" the end of the bar out from inside the window. It was a little tricky but I got it and was able to pull down enough with the wire to unlock the window.
