Yeah the weapons in story modes doesnt get affected by patch notes In splatoon 2 story modes all weapons act like they did on the first version In octo expansion all weapons act like in the patch where octo expansion was released thats why stingray doesnt have the second phase in hero mode but it does have it in octo expansion

For example the shirt named “slipstream United” is based of FC Barcelona’s jersey and the 10 on the back is a homage to messi when he was at Barcelona. The Squidkid IV shoes were loosely based off the Jordan 4 shoe. And lastly the stealth goggles helmet is based of a MICH-200 helmet used by many real world militaries for training use not frontline combat. But there are plenty more items with real world equivalents.
