I like to say Splatoon 1 was the proof of concept, and Splatoon 2 is where the franchise really found it’s identity and what it wanted to be. Then Splatoon 3 expanded that.
I like the feel and music of 2 the most, but 3 definitely fells like a bigger experience. I think 2 was more hyped though, with the trailers and constant additions. And it was like the only thing on the switch there at the beginning besides Zelda and Mario Kart. Good times. But 3 has been a lot of fun so far for sure
all of the flaws you mentioned in the story mode make me incredibly excited for how the dlc will expand upon ideas. if we get a dlc that is equal to or better than what octo expansion was to splatoon 2's main campaign then we are in for some of the best content in the series by far.
Heck yeah I'm super excited to see what this new DLC has to offer Would be cool if they tried something new with the series again like they did with Octo expansion. No matter what they do I'm hyped for it because of what they did with Octo and splat 3
15:25 Salmon Run is actually harder, lesser salmonids were buffed to attack quicker and hazard level goes up significantly higher among other things probably.
It’s really cool seeing a positive video on splatoon, being in the competitive scene I’m used to only seeing critiques and people telling you to get good. Your positivity is a great addition to the community and I bet you brought some new people in!
"What the hell? A $60 game WITHOUT other in game microtransactions? 0/10, needs moar muhnee." - AAA game designers, Literally every single one, shortly after viewing the (lack of) scummy money grabs on Splatoon 3.
Here is what I think is going to happen to table turf battles. I’m game, as the card game gets more funding via plays, it will expand and hopefully get its own building along with taking up the room in the lobby.
I absolutely love Splatoon 3 at its core, happy to see someone speaking positively about it, but I'm curious what you think about the maps? The linearity and way that they make it too easy to spawn camp is really wearing on me. Really forces you into building and spamming specials to force your way through because you can't attack from other angles on properly positioned enemies. Hoping for serious reworks.
I never thought too much about the map design for 3 until I went back to play 2 again and enjoyed all the maps way way more lol. I think the maps for 3 are serviceable for what they are, but I 100% agree they feel way more linear then previous games maps. It feels like there's a lot more chokeholding in ranked games than before and you hit the nail on the head that it's hard to push through certain angles without building your specials. Brinewater and Hagglefish being the worst examples of this imo. There's no maps in 3 I ever get really excited to see, but there's none I outright dislike, (though I'm happy Mahi-Mahi resort is back!). I hope they bring back some of the more creative maps from 1 and 2 and that new maps for 3 aren't as linear going forward. I miss camp triggerfish everyday of my life. Don't have as much insight in map design unfortunately, but thanks for asking and thank you for watching!
@@TJLounge I wish we had Splatoon 1 Mahi Mahi😢 Splatoon 3's version is a claustrophobic, hellhole with very little cover, making it backliner paradise!
The map design in 3 is probably it's weakest point for me. Not only is it a step down in quality from the last two games, it feels like it's being actively restricted in a way that doesn't bode well for future updates. Splatoon 1 had some of the most unique maps in the series and 2 gave us shifty station, so it sucks to see things take such a big step back now.
@@squiddler7731 There are some that I like and many could be made REALLY good with some slight modifications, but ultimately the biggest problem with the maps is the lack of alternate approaches. That's why Flounder Heights is the best map right now; because there are ACTUAL flank routes, and the choke points can be avoided entirely, whereas with weaker maps like Mincemeat Metalworks, there are basically zero flank options and there are multiple choke points with zero alternatives other than saving specials and brute forcing your way through the choke points! I think if Nintendo simply added more flanks to maps like Mincemeat, Mahi, Eeltail, Undertow, and Hammerhead, they'd ALL feel 1000x better! Even if they put a simple inkline on Hammerhead that could enable quick access to right-mid, that would solve a HUGE problem with the stage! Splatoon 3 is my favorite game in the series, but the maps definitely have some big problems! It feels like Nintendo wanted to make the stages "chaotic" because of the theme, but they didn't make them nearly competitively viable enough!
@@squiddler7731 first off does shifty station really count as the game’s map design? Secondly, is it actually a step down? Splatoon 1 has walleye, mall, camp, saltspray, kelp, etc. and 2 had Shellendorf, goby, albacore, wahoo. AND all the bad maps from S1. Map design IMO has always been weak with a few standalone gems; the reason why people notice it now in Splatoon 3 is because every other aspect has been upgraded except the maps, so it’s easy to look at how low in quality the maps are compared to the better weapon balance (at least before crab), specials, abilities, new movement tech. Yet the maps have not evolved with them.
If only because they can't get used to gyro aiming. Trust me, I've seen a lot of negative reactions to that, and I used to be one of them. Took me 4 months to get used to it, but now I can't go back
I 100% agree with this statement and it rightfully won multiplayer game of 2022. People who didn't agree with that most likely never played splatoon before
Ppl are very quick to hate on anything Nintendo tbh. Between splatoon and smash ult I can't get enough. Crazy how I got the new Xbox and realized my Nintendo games are more fun. Elden Ring was the only game I cared about and I've never had more buyers remorse. Nintendo and Playstation have the good games. Splatoon is the best shooter ive played in years (just quit hunt showdown) and I look forward to becoming competitive in splat 3
@@tiredofinternetcultureI’m tired of hearing people complain that Nintendo only makes games for babies, if they did that then the game wouldn’t be rated for EVERYONE
Dunno how this ended on my feed, but what a great video. The production quality on it feels like your average channel that has about 300k to 700k subs, yet you only have less than 200. Hope to see more like this and keep up the good work!
Great Video, man! The only thing holding Splatoon 3 back from being an absolute masterpiece for me is simply the frequent online issues. Lobbies crash WAAAAY too often and it feels like teammates drop way more frequently than they ever did before. Idk if people somehow got worse internet or if Nintendo just has worse infrastructure, but if they could just fix those issues, I'd have no problems with the game!
I've seen a couple of suggested reasons for the bad connection, no idea if any of them are true but: -supposedly the game largely depends on one player's internet connection, meaning that if they're bad then everyone's bad -they switched to new servers for their games, and Splatoon 3 is one of the first games to go on the new system. maybe they're not used to it -Splatoon 3 had by far the biggest launch in the series, selling 3.45 million copies in the first 3 days and 7 million by the end of the month (for comparison, Splatoon 2 sold 13 million in the 5 years it's been around.) It's possible that the devs and game were not prepared for so many players and the connection is suffering the second one is probably the most likely, or at least the most prominent, but the other two are worth mentioning since they're things I heard.
I’ll be honest I liked Return of the Mammalians even more than Octo Expansion. Yes, OE does have the better level design and story, but the lore drops in RotM are insane and they meshed the OE styled levels with Octo Valley’s and Canyon’s upgrade systems and exploration perfectly imo. Also, Captain 3 is so fucking precious that it just barely beats out their badass appearance in OE. Plus they wear Hero Sandals and Cuttlefish’s Cap which is just as good as the Cape if not better. As a whole I just adore this series. I played Splatoon 1 a bit and I got Splatoon 2 in late 2017. Then I proceeded to put over 1200 hours into it between then and now. And I’ve already put well over 300 hours in Splatoon 3 as well.
Theres a lot that I can say about this video and what it means to me personally as someone who's played and enjoyed this series for 7 years but I feel like the best thing I can say about this video is that if I were to try to get someone into splatoon, this video is the first thing I'd show them. This video shows why we love splatoon, why splatoon 3 in particular is so amazing, and why people should give it a fair chance if they haven't already.
I don't think a lot of people notice this, but when you're waiting for matches with teammates and their little holograms show up, you can actually see the lines where the light makes contact with dust in the air; the lines meet up with the protector on the ceiling in the lobby and the Grizz Co. training area.
I've been talking, telling people that Big Run needs to directly precede Splatfests. One weekend is Big Run, the next is Splatfest. From a lore perspective, Splatfests should be historical, joyous celebrations of the prosperity that the hauls of Big Runs bring. Hundreds of years ago, when life was much harder, a Big Run would mean that many families in what's now called Splatsville would be able to support themselves more heartily for a little bit, thanks to the increase in fishing hauls that a Big Run would bring. As a result, the community comes together to celebrate the prosperity of Big Runs in what is now referred to as Splatfests.
I'm absolutely flabbergasted. This quality video is a fucking 250 subscriber channel??? WHAT? I was expecting like 10K - 100K. Holy shit my dude, good stuff. Keep making videos and ppl will watch them.
Really cool video, I especially agree with your singleplayer analysis and conclusion at the end. I critique the game a lot myself but the step up and polish from 2 is amazing. I really can't wait to see it be perfected over the next 2 years.
Thank you man, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I have much more experience studying narrative design and storytelling compared to multiplayer design and it's intricacies, so I really wanted the final segments of the video to be engaging and thought provoking. I digress lol, I love your videos and love watching your high level competitive play! I'm so pumped to see where 3 will go from here and what the DLC expansion will be like. Thank you for taking the time to watch, appreciate it a ton!
I understood the proof of concept and instantly understood how the idea of the swimmable ink, in the hands of Nintendo’s developers, would be fun. Stealth + speed - weapon, in a multiplayer shooter, was an obviously innovative idea. I was thrilled to play it for the first time and have always been a fan despite the drawbacks. I’ve been so happy to see it get more mainstream
Marigold is NOT a Copy + Paste NPC, in the story mode sunken scrolls we can clearly see and read somewhat that he lore for Marigold aka the staff worker, all 3 different staff around the game[Food, Recon, and Tableturf] are all diff people since we can get that the sunken scroll tells us that they are fugitives that all share the same identity and look, I know A LOT of lore.
Splatoon 3 is a true masterpiece! It's not only the best shooter I've played in years, but it also has an amazing art style, unique gameplay mechanics, and a fantastic soundtrack. The new features and weapons added in this installment make it even more enjoyable. I can't wait to see what's next for the series.
Dude I don’t know how long it took you to do this!!!! BUT OMFG, YOU FREAKING NAILED EVERYTHING!!!! Hence why this game won best multiplayer game of the year!!!! More people need to be playing this
Phenomenal video! You really put a lot of love into this video and it shows. Everything you talk about flows so nicely, and I just love how in depth you went with every aspect of the game. Huge fan of how you edited all together too! Great work!
Adding onto the worldbuilding is the thought and care being put in the brands and clothing for me, especially with the catalog-system. You really get immersed into this world and wanna collect the new fresh trending clothing styles everyone else is wearing. And its so rewarding finally being leveled up enough to get the stuff you've been gushing about on another player and you didn't quite have the catalog level yet so you level up and- gosh this is such a good game!
They def should have done more with deep cut and orca in the campaign. My theory is that orca wrote the alterna songs, other than the rocket ones, that are clearly sung by deep cut. Alterna mission 2 (funky) is 80s inspired. Island one has squid sisters vocals because that’s where the camp is. Island 2 has factory sounds bc factory. Alterna 4 has mr grizz because mr grizz is present in alterna 4 and in deep cut battle. Orca documented human survival, so it’s not unlikely it created these songs and more and used them during the campaign by using things that it has seen, such as 80s nostalgia from the scientists, or Mr grizz. Considering all songs are diegetic, orca seems to be the only one that could have written alterna mission 1-11, island 1-6, and potentially rocket 1.
Orca might end up being more interesting and important than thought. The liquid crystals react to the thoughts of living beings, and an AI is a being purely comprised of thoughts. Additionally, it’s in one of the last places with crystals retaining human thoughts, and it is meant to collect information and data about humans. It could be a very real possibility we see Orca become sapient in the DLC, and maybe even get a physical body.
I agree with most of what you said but the important thing to remember about octo expansion is that it's just that, an *expansion* . It better come with cool extra bells and and whistle because it's 20 extra dollars plus the baseline 60-80. It did set the bar high, but because it's DLC. Who knows, maybe the new DLC will build directly onto the baseline story mode
not to mention hero mode does so much to teach new players. it shows you all the tools you have, lets you practice with weapons old and new, and introduces a lot of the quick problem solving that occurs in turf wars and ranked games. i SUCKED at splatoon before i sat down and played hero mode which is a way friendlier environment to gain skills bc the only real punishment is a small fee of resources you have an abundance of. its a tutorial without the tutorial and i was like holy shit im good at the game now???? post hero mode and it felt GREAT
idk if you talk about it im not done with the video yet im just very passionate about the story mode (probably stemming from how i was and am..................... a very new player)
Thank you for explaining this to me I was looking up gameplay and trying to figure out how this game was able to beat every other Shooter out there and now i kinda want a Switch
Honestly I thought this game would be very popular in Japan but I didn’t know it sold that amazing especially since it’s the 2nd Splatoon game on the switch but the marketing in Japan from what I’ve seen is just phenomenal
I’m glad you covered the issues with the campaign’s storytelling and how it ultimately just ended up “octo expansion but lesser” but I feel there are some other points that must be addressed Mr grizz didn’t feel like he needed to be Mr grizz, like you said they didn’t really explore the potential Robin Hood dynamic with deep cut (though maybe this was done so it deep cut sponsoring salmon run would make sense) But nothing about Mr grizz’s plan or how the characters interacted with him really made it clear that this is Mr grizz and this can only be Mr grizz or else the plot isn’t the same. He honestly could have and should have been someone else (because the bear twist and grizz just being “blah bad guy” was really lame imo) Octavio got done so dirty for this entire series, he’s potentially the most interesting villain not just in splatoon but in any Nintendo series, but they just render him to being bowser and nothing more. Like imagine if he was with us the whole game, that could have made Calle and Marie much more interesting as the have to work with and play off of their old foe and could have helped give Octavio some very VERY necessary characterization he was sorely lacking Smallfry also had a lot of potential to explore the salmonid’s perspective on the world, and show how grizzco is negatively affecting them but they didn’t do that, he’s essentially just your dog (also that magic stuff at the end was really REALLY dumb and contrived) And yes your point that RotM is more event/lore focused than character focused rings true here and is likely the central issue of the plot, it’s basically a lecture and you come out no different than when you came in and despite all of the crazy lore reveals, this plot could have just never happened and the splatoon story as a whole wouldn’t really be all that worse, hell it might even be better without Rotm That’s my 2 cents this probably dragged on too long but I’m passionate about this series and I want to see it improve
Thanks a lot for the video, you have given me even more reason to love this game more then I already do. I just hope that more people wil see this game/game series for the masterpiece that it is.
I feel like it's a bit unfair to compare 3's story to 2's DLC. I can understand the reasoning behind it, but 3's storymode has still managed to improve upon both 1 and 2. While it definitely still has it's weak points compared to Octo, we're still working with what was given to us in the base game. Octo is the product of Nintendo learning and building upon 2's storymode so hopefully the DLC for 3 will build more on what we've been given and be a more fitting comparison for Octo
Salmon run is massively more difficult and intense in this game, yeah. The most obvious change is the increased quotas thanks to egg throwing; you need to collect way more golden eggs than back in 2 which means you _need_ to throw eggs to get enough, which means you'll have less ink to work with to kill bosses. And on top of that, the lesser salmonid are just way more aggressive and deadly than they used to be. Going back to Splatoon 2 is funny, cause once you instinctively try to squid roll and throw eggs, you run into lesser salmonid and they're so passive compared to what we're used to that it's like they're not even there, lol.
As a 3 times %100 holder, I love this series, it's a simple yet challenging series that's always fun and refreshing to play. With atleast 180 hours in the franchise so far (cant see splat 1 time guessing less total time) guessing roughly 200 hours in the series, I loved the story and how it plays with actual biology and real water guns and coloring tools and equipment, the music is also great each time and everything control well no matter if you use gyro or stick control schemes. And the competitive scene is always improving and creating and finding new ways to inovate and improve their plans and gameplay. (Gonna add more later it's late when i'm posting)
I personally believe we’re going to get a campaign expansion later on which will be, at minimum, on-par with the Octo Expansion for Spoon 2. So i’m excited to see that manifest! There’s also a lot of unused room in the hub, which makes me believe that they are going to bring more interactive buildings/lobbies.
after seeing A TON of videos criticizing everything in the game, seeing this is such a big break, i have been a huge fan of this game since 2018-2019 to the point all of my usernames were octogirl and a bunch of numbers up until 2021, because at the end of the day, i just focus on having fun because i'm still a kid and this game saved me from hard times, even if rotm isn't a great campaing imo, it's still fun and all
i love this video! i think we'll get the same story depth as the octo expasion when we get the splat 3 DLC! i think its more fair to compare splat 3 storymode to the splat 2 free storymode? im really looking forward to the future updates, and again great video! it was really fun to watch till the very end
I agree with almost everything here (the exception being the story mode stuff lol) But I’m just coming to say that it’s really nice to see somebody seeing splatoon 3 for what it really is instead of just shredding into it and complaining about every single tiny little flaw abt the game and it’s updates. I’m just so tired of everybody in the community hating on basically everything in the game and all of the events and updates despite them being amazing (and definitely better than other shooter games) Of course criticism is necessary for everything to get better, no matter if it’s a video game or not, but it really gets on my nerves where almost the entire community hates every single amazing update/event the devs pour effort and passion in (and the game overall) and on top of that the community just likes to nitpick every tiny little flaw about everything and act like it’s ruining the game. And this is in the SPLATOON 3 community for crying out loud, I thought that the community is coming together as a community in the first place because we all have one thing in common: we all like splatoon 3. For anyone still reading this, thanks for listening to my rant. Sorry I just had to get it off out of my system since every single person I have heard that “likes splatoon” has almost nothing good to say about it (I have no actual splatoon friends lol)
Ok but extra follow up for what complaints about updates I’m talking about: sizzle season. Sizzle season is the largest and best update the game has gotten so far. But of course here’s my thoughts about all the drama that has been brewing about the features of this update Challenges being limited time is not bad for it at all, in fact, it’s good for it with the fact that a challenge is happening EVERY COUPLE OF DAYS So, it will have the excitement of a limited time event but at the same time not cause FOMO since they happen so often. The new kits, although not as much as last time, are surprisingly all either amazing or introduce a new and unique play style for the game (I’m a casual who doesn’t care much about kits, so this is actually pretty surprising that they managed to catch my attention) Barnacle and Dime although having the same Tetris back bone as some other stages, does play around with the terrain in mid to make some fun ramps and walls to hide behind and flank around which I really like This season ain’t perfect, but it is definitely splatoon 3 quality (that type of quality means amazing) and better than the last one Again, just wanted to make my voice heard cause I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to see how much passion and fun nintendo put in to the game and the stuff that they are adding to the game and the community that supposedly also loves the game like I do only just nit pick every little flaw and act like it’s much bigger than it actually is or complain about stuff that aren’t event flaws in the first place. Thank you so much for reading till the end of this if you did btw
I got a switch just to play Splatoon. I've played multiplayer shooters my entire life, counter strike, quake, halo, cod, etc. and I ABSOLUTELY love nintendo's take on the genre. I appreciate games like this that are truly unique. The mechanics of inking, swimming, etc. are awesome. Another game that is really unique (although a lot of people hate on it) is fortnite, but you can't deny mechanics like building make the game special.
Splat 3 is my first splatoon game. I had the game for months but just never understood it. Not sure why, but something clicked for me just in the last week, and I can't stop playign it now.
To be a little fair to Splatoon 1 the game only really came together in the last year or so of development, with the E3 2014 announcement only being about 6-ish months after the modern inkings we're added
Splatoon does stand next to Mario and Zelda as nintendos biggest IPs even nintendo recognizes this. They made a poster with their flagship IP and if im correct the 4 they chose were Mario, Zelda Splatoon and Animal Crossing
Speaking of platforming in story mode: after zone 1, I'm pretty sure you can reach and clear every kettle before you even throw little buddy at a single pile of ooze by a mix of platforming and the fact that you can superjump to kettles after they're uncovered and all you need to do to uncover them is shoot them a few times.
The real masterpiece is this video! The editing, humor, and overall production value is unbelievable for a channel of this size. Thank you for the blessing of being able to watch this 🙏
Literally my only gripe with the game is in splatfests they do the news and then switch to the plaza, when in 2 they did they news right there on the stage. Im just waiting for the Pearl and Marina Wedding DLC.
Can we please please pleaseeeeee talk about how good the octo expansion was!!! It was amazing, and dare I say the best thing I have ever spent my money on. It was a twist and turn and it made you think as a player, yet also challenge you to play to your best potential. The levels were top teir, with specials, new enemies, and even new objectives (like the 8 ball). The chat room was one of the best lore I have ever read, while it hints as marinas past (possibly being a secret agent for evil octolings) and has great humor added within it. Even the story over all was great! With you meeting a random phone to realizing that quirky song isn’t actually friendly and he wants to kill you in a blender…. To him being an EVIL SCIENTIST!?? and the fact that the telephone was trying to end the world. And even the last scenes brought me to tears as someone who has played from the first game. The fact that agent 8 had finally reached the surface and gets to live with the rest of them. THEN U CAN PLAY AS AN OCTOLING⁉️⁉️ Idk man but it just seems to be the best thing to me.
Bro your voice sounds so much like Alpharad, until proven wrong I will believe this is a new shadow channel for him (Just kidding man, this video is incredible)
I love how you mentioned how you get to see the winning team with their emotes after a match and how in previous entries we would see our team expressing losing emotes. As someone who got into splatoon in splatoon 3 I always liked the chance to see the winning team instead of being sour over losing by seeing your team losing emotes. I know it’s a small detail but it’s a small detail that made me like splatoon 3 just a tad more than splatoon 2 which I barely really played, meanwhile with splatoon 3 I only got it like a month ago and I play it every day!
Brilliantly written script without sounding too much like a blind fan boy, with some memes sprinkled in at appropriate times. You've earned my sub! So glad I found this video.
Fantastic video! I will say that I greatly enjoyed (and still enjoy) Splatoon 1’s multiplayer and singleplayer, and I don’t think they should be written off as a demo. But besides that, I think you did a great job summarizing what makes Splat 3 so great and why it feels special within the current gaming landscape. I especially agree about the story being lacking when compared to Octo Expansion-hoping the DLC handles that better (also hoping it has more creative levels)
this is my first Splatoon game (I love the game) but seeing the features and game modes that just make sense and now knowing they weren't always there from the start is crazy to me. I am glad i waited the play Splatoon as I don't think I would have enjoyed the other games as much.

I was teetering on the edge and this video helped make me take the plunge. Uh, yeah, I’m in love with this game now… It’s filling the deep void in my soul that OW’s toxicity and OW2’s more-of-the-same left in their wake
wow this channel needs more attention; your editing is fun and entertaining with an excited voice with each topic to talk about; it’s really good and deserves far above 1k subs
an in depth review going over all the games while keeping the video entertaining and informative for SPLOON we love to see it. your pacing and commentary for the video is so well done I’m amazed you don’t have more subscribers you deserve it (also I wanted a customizable apartment so bad since the first game glad to know im not the only one)
This video did just make me realize how much I like... adore the fact that Splatoon has no microtransactions. Like sure you can buy amiibo for cosmetics, but that doesnt necessarily make it easier or faster to beat the game or anything? Like you could just put that kit on a different set of gear. I like the fact that I can do silly gacha pulls for no real money. I like the feeling of getting to do a crazy amount at once if I sit down and grind out during splatfest or salmon run. Plus the aesthetics and the baseline goofiness of the game really strikes a nice cord inside me. No matter how frustrated I get, I just look at my opponents wielding an airbrush tool and a pair of glue stick guns and it hits that the game's kinda just silly, in the best way. I love spoon :]
It would be cool if the dlc was from the perspective of an octoling attempting to get to inkopolis, and then at the end of the dlc you get an apartment (please give us apartments Nintendo, please please please)
This is such a good ass video! I love Splatoon so much, and I'm glad that creators like you are spreading the good word! And the editing for this video is so fun and dynamic, definitely makes me feel like putting in more effort into my own! You deserve more subscribers, definitely sharing this video to my friends!

I wish we had Splatoon 1 Mahi Mahi😢 Splatoon 3's version is a claustrophobic, hellhole with very little cover, making it backliner paradise!
@@squiddler7731
There are some that I like and many could be made REALLY good with some slight modifications, but ultimately the biggest problem with the maps is the lack of alternate approaches.
To flip the age-old phrase around: COD dudebros wouldn't last five minutes in a Splatoon 3 lobby.
They wouldn't last five seconds in turf War either.
Exactly 😤 "A communication error has occured."
@@plasmasupremacy9321 only a real Splatoon player can continue to play after receiving their 15th connection error in a row
If only because they can't get used to gyro aiming. Trust me, I've seen a lot of negative reactions to that, and I used to be one of them. Took me 4 months to get used to it, but now I can't go back
this is so true lol one of my exes had like 700+ hours in cod and rage quit the first time they tried splatoon 💀
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed the video!
I only just noticed his sub count, dude deserves waaaay more
This made me realise he only has 800 subs... such fantastic content!
Really, where the Fuck are your subs man
Great Video, man!
I've seen a couple of suggested reasons for the bad connection, no idea if any of them are true but:
-supposedly the game largely depends on one player's internet connection, meaning that if they're bad then everyone's bad
-they switched to new servers for their games, and Splatoon 3 is one of the first games to go on the new system. maybe they're not used to it
-Splatoon 3 had by far the biggest launch in the series, selling 3.45 million copies in the first 3 days and 7 million by the end of the month (for comparison, Splatoon 2 sold 13 million in the 5 years it's been around.) It's possible that the devs and game were not prepared for so many players and the connection is suffering
the second one is probably the most likely, or at least the most prominent, but the other two are worth mentioning since they're things I heard.
that isnt nintendos issue splatoon players just gotta fix their wifi
@@youseinokiri it absolutely is nintendos problem when the online is significantly worse than splatoon 2's
This is fantastic.
Absolutely sharing this with people.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, it's very kind of you to share the video as well. Thank you so much!
I don't think a lot of people notice this, but when you're waiting for matches with teammates and their little holograms show up, you can actually see the lines where the light makes contact with dust in the air; the lines meet up with the protector on the ceiling in the lobby and the Grizz Co. training area.
"The smallfry in the plaza are a part of the security monitors in the Salmon Run lobby" WHAT
I've been talking, telling people that Big Run needs to directly precede Splatfests.

The “icky paint-like goop” reference got me good, I was NOT expecting that.

More people need to be playing this
Yeah that’s right, I liked my own comment. Idc lol
@@johncronk8867 that would be awesome
I agree with most of what you said but the important thing to remember about octo expansion is that it's just that, an *expansion* . It better come with cool extra bells and and whistle because it's 20 extra dollars plus the baseline 60-80. It did set the bar high, but because it's DLC. Who knows, maybe the new DLC will build directly onto the baseline story mode
Alternate Title:
*Babbling About Octo Expansion*
i like your energy
not to mention hero mode does so much to teach new players. it shows you all the tools you have, lets you practice with weapons old and new, and introduces a lot of the quick problem solving that occurs in turf wars and ranked games. i SUCKED at splatoon before i sat down and played hero mode which is a way friendlier environment to gain skills bc the only real punishment is a small fee of resources you have an abundance of. its a tutorial without the tutorial and i was like holy shit im good at the game now???? post hero mode and it felt GREAT
idk if you talk about it im not done with the video yet im just very passionate about the story mode (probably stemming from how i was and am..................... a very new player)
I loved splatoon 2, but was disinterested in buying platoon 3. This video changed my mind. Absolutley phenomenal. Thank you.
2:44 GOD, you HAD to play that intro didn't you!? I couldn't stop my self, I finished the jingle out loud in my room alone! Don don DUN!.
This franchise is keeping me alive. Like fr. It’s been there for me in the toughest moments, and I fkn love it ok? 😭
Thank you for explaining this to me I was looking up gameplay and trying to figure out how this game was able to beat every other Shooter out there and now i kinda want a Switch
This was 30 minutes long? It feeled like 5 minutes. Great work man!
this video itself is a masterpiece!!! this game deserves so much more love
This is a good video, especially the last 3 parts
Honestly I thought this game would be very popular in Japan but I didn’t know it sold that amazing especially since it’s the 2nd Splatoon game on the switch but the marketing in Japan from what I’ve seen is just phenomenal
14:12 love that salmon run transition 😂
Quality stuff. Reminds me of pyro. I will watch your career with great interest.
I’m glad you covered the issues with the campaign’s storytelling and how it ultimately just ended up “octo expansion but lesser” but I feel there are some other points that must be addressed
Mr grizz didn’t feel like he needed to be Mr grizz, like you said they didn’t really explore the potential Robin Hood dynamic with deep cut (though maybe this was done so it deep cut sponsoring salmon run would make sense)
But nothing about Mr grizz’s plan or how the characters interacted with him really made it clear that this is Mr grizz and this can only be Mr grizz or else the plot isn’t the same. He honestly could have and should have been someone else (because the bear twist and grizz just being “blah bad guy” was really lame imo)
Octavio got done so dirty for this entire series, he’s potentially the most interesting villain not just in splatoon but in any Nintendo series, but they just render him to being bowser and nothing more. Like imagine if he was with us the whole game, that could have made Calle and Marie much more interesting as the have to work with and play off of their old foe and could have helped give Octavio some very VERY necessary characterization he was sorely lacking
Smallfry also had a lot of potential to explore the salmonid’s perspective on the world, and show how grizzco is negatively affecting them but they didn’t do that, he’s essentially just your dog (also that magic stuff at the end was really REALLY dumb and contrived)
And yes your point that RotM is more event/lore focused than character focused rings true here and is likely the central issue of the plot, it’s basically a lecture and you come out no different than when you came in and despite all of the crazy lore reveals, this plot could have just never happened and the splatoon story as a whole wouldn’t really be all that worse, hell it might even be better without Rotm
That’s my 2 cents this probably dragged on too long but I’m passionate about this series and I want to see it improve
Brooo shitting myself because I didn’t know that NILS was visible from the bridge map 😭
Thanks a lot for the video, you have given me even more reason to love this game more then I already do. I just hope that more people wil see this game/game series for the masterpiece that it is.
This is one of the best Splatoon videos I've ever seen!! Great Video!
And yes, Salmon Run is harder now for sure
I feel like it's a bit unfair to compare 3's story to 2's DLC. I can understand the reasoning behind it, but 3's storymode has still managed to improve upon both 1 and 2. While it definitely still has it's weak points compared to Octo, we're still working with what was given to us in the base game. Octo is the product of Nintendo learning and building upon 2's storymode so hopefully the DLC for 3 will build more on what we've been given and be a more fitting comparison for Octo
From the trailer it looks very promising!
This video was extremely well written and very entertaining. I watched through the entire video, and i'm looking forward to more content from you ^^
this was an insanely well made video . supremely underrated
Within a minute of clicking on this video you earned a new subscriber, you earned MANY, new subscribers.
Best first sentence a video has ever had
I personally believe we’re going to get a campaign expansion later on which will be, at minimum, on-par with the Octo Expansion for Spoon 2. So i’m excited to see that manifest! There’s also a lot of unused room in the hub, which makes me believe that they are going to bring more interactive buildings/lobbies.
after seeing A TON of videos criticizing everything in the game, seeing this is such a big break, i have been a huge fan of this game since 2018-2019 to the point all of my usernames were octogirl and a bunch of numbers up until 2021, because at the end of the day, i just focus on having fun because i'm still a kid and this game saved me from hard times, even if rotm isn't a great campaing imo, it's still fun and all
Bro, I can't unsee Kingpin being Mr. Grizz
What you said about the finally can actually be applied, since you've actually been helping since sploon 2 with Salmon Run!
i love this video! i think we'll get the same story depth as the octo expasion when we get the splat 3 DLC!
i think its more fair to compare splat 3 storymode to the splat 2 free storymode?
im really looking forward to the future updates, and again great video! it was really fun to watch till the very end
absolutely amazing editing. very nice video
I agree with almost everything here (the exception being the story mode stuff lol)
But I’m just coming to say that it’s really nice to see somebody seeing splatoon 3 for what it really is instead of just shredding into it and complaining about every single tiny little flaw abt the game and it’s updates. I’m just so tired of everybody in the community hating on basically everything in the game and all of the events and updates despite them being amazing (and definitely better than other shooter games)
Of course criticism is necessary for everything to get better, no matter if it’s a video game or not, but it really gets on my nerves where almost the entire community hates every single amazing update/event the devs pour effort and passion in (and the game overall) and on top of that the community just likes to nitpick every tiny little flaw about everything and act like it’s ruining the game.
WAIT A MIN YO HE ACTUALLY READ MY COMMENT (hopefully)
Ok but extra follow up for what complaints about updates I’m talking about: sizzle season. Sizzle season is the largest and best update the game has gotten so far. But of course here’s my thoughts about all the drama that has been brewing about the features of this update
Challenges being limited time is not bad for it at all, in fact, it’s good for it with the fact that a challenge is happening EVERY COUPLE OF DAYS
So, it will have the excitement of a limited time event but at the same time not cause FOMO since they happen so often.
The new kits, although not as much as last time, are surprisingly all either amazing or introduce a new and unique play style for the game (I’m a casual who doesn’t care much about kits, so this is actually pretty surprising that they managed to catch my attention)
Barnacle and Dime although having the same Tetris back bone as some other stages, does play around with the terrain in mid to make some fun ramps and walls to hide behind and flank around which I really like
This season ain’t perfect, but it is definitely splatoon 3 quality (that type of quality means amazing) and better than the last one
Again, just wanted to make my voice heard cause I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to see how much passion and fun nintendo put in to the game and the stuff that they are adding to the game and the community that supposedly also loves the game like I do only just nit pick every little flaw and act like it’s much bigger than it actually is or complain about stuff that aren’t event flaws in the first place.

Octo Expansion is just Peak Splatoon, Thank you for keeping that opinion, Also amazing video.
Splat 3 is my first splatoon game. I had the game for months but just never understood it. Not sure why, but something clicked for me just in the last week, and I can't stop playign it now.
Love coming back to this video, it’s just as much of a masterpiece as Splatoon 3 is
no way you only have 721 subs, this is top tier content 💀
To be a little fair to Splatoon 1 the game only really came together in the last year or so of development, with the E3 2014 announcement only being about 6-ish months after the modern inkings we're added
Splatoon does stand next to Mario and Zelda as nintendos biggest IPs even nintendo recognizes this. They made a poster with their flagship IP and if im correct the 4 they chose were Mario, Zelda Splatoon and Animal Crossing
I loved video essays before and I love them even more now. This video is a work of ART, keep it up!! :D
1:44 The slow inhale of nostalgia I just got hearing that jingle.
Im just waiting for the Pearl and Marina Wedding DLC.
this video makes me really happy i played since the first game and loved it to see a recap and entrance into a bigger community really makes me happy
THEN U CAN PLAY AS AN OCTOLING⁉️⁉️
Idk man but it just seems to be the best thing to me.
Bro your voice sounds so much like Alpharad, until proven wrong I will believe this is a new shadow channel for him
(Just kidding man, this video is incredible)
OMG this was an amazing watch. Fantastic editing, good content, and funny as well. 10/10 Smallfries recommend
So glad I found this video.
really great video, held my attention the whole way through and didn't linger on one specific topic for too long
Fantastic video!

Uh, yeah, I’m in love with this game now…
It’s filling the deep void in my soul that OW’s toxicity and OW2’s more-of-the-same left in their wake
wow this channel needs more attention; your editing is fun and entertaining with an excited voice with each topic to talk about; it’s really good and deserves far above 1k subs

an in depth review going over all the games while keeping the video entertaining and informative for SPLOON we love to see it. your pacing and commentary for the video is so well done I’m amazed you don’t have more subscribers you deserve it
(also I wanted a customizable apartment so bad since the first game glad to know im not the only one)
27:51 had me in tears dude
A+ video. entertaining content and insightful analysis
They really just looked at Spoon 1 and 2 before saying "okay, how do we do that but MORE?"
It would be cool if the dlc was from the perspective of an octoling attempting to get to inkopolis, and then at the end of the dlc you get an apartment (please give us apartments Nintendo, please please please)
i’ve been playing since the first game came out and it’s really nice to see how far the game and its community have come over the years
9:56 marina has canonically written pearl a love letter, so calling pearl marinas adopted daughter is... kind of a really weird thing to say. >_>"

Very entertaining video, subbed!
This is such a good ass video! I love Splatoon so much, and I'm glad that creators like you are spreading the good word!
