For anyone interested: The FW15C featured a push-to-pass system (left yellow button on the steering wheel), which would use the active suspension to lower the car at the rear and eliminate the drag from the diffuser, effectively increasing speed through a lack of downforce. At the same time, the button would set the engine for another 300 revs.

Well I don't agree. F1 was always kind of experimental field for engineers to develop better road cars. If you look at it back then you had first intelligent suspension and ABS which were innovations of the time and 10 or 15 years later almost every car have it, in recent years things like KERS were introduced to F1 and we slowly can see it being transferred to road cars. Lately there is a need for hybrid engines as we start to care more about emissions and environment. You have to remember that Mercedes or Renault ain't there only to have fun and design fastest cars but to do that using newest innovations and setting up the direction for road cars. They want to develop their technology in F1 because that's where road cars are heading and that's where real money is for them. I am cool with new cars, I wasn't huge fan of last generation of cars but 2017 cars are really impressive. They are faster then ever before and they will only get better and faster in 2018. And you have to respect that 1.6 litre V6 800Hp engine can make this car faster than 1200HP 3.2 litre V10. I mean that's just impressive however they may sound

    • @barrierodliffe4155
      @barrierodliffe4155 6 лет назад +31

Prost had a very good reason to veto Senna. Prost had beat Senna when Senna had more powerful cars and Prost did win 7 races and the title. Senna won 3 times only when Prost had a problem, and the last two races when Prost was already world champion.
1990 Senna won the title by winning 6 races, Prost 5 and Senna crashed into Prost or Prost would have most likely won 6 too.
Senna would quite likely have killed himself in 1993if he was in the Williams, Prost and Hill managed a less than perfect car which had rather odd handling at timws. Don't forget 1994 when Senna crashed in Brazil and Hill finished 2nd

Sad to see how many forget or don't want to see that Alain Prost was the best there ever was. Unlike Senna or Schumacher he always had to deal with a top driver world champion as team mate (Schumacher never had to, and Senna, except for Prost, always had second handed drivers at his side). Bernie Ecclestone, Eddy Jordan and John Barnard said it very well, when you look at all the facts: Prost was the all time best pilot in F1.

@@MustangCollectibles Many younger F1 fans don't know how many races Prost led in the early Renault Turbos, only for car failure to intervene.
Prost lost the 81, 82, and 83 WDC because of car failures, he did nothing wrong as a driver, and of course he lost the 84 WDC by a half point. He won more than half the races he finished in those 4 years, and only a couple of races NOT on the podium.
You can say this and that about many drivers, but Prost had the genuine potential based in evidence, to win 9 titles from a driver's point of view.
It's no wonder many rate him as the best ever, and I'm a Schumacher fan btw, but facts are facts.

It raised the active to stall the diffuser and give more top speed (at a DF cost) and simultaneously set the engine rpm limit 300revs above normal, every time it was pressed. It's how Alain got by in the end.

The reason Prost went past was that Senna having tried so hard to stay ahead was wearing his tyres and using too much fuel, the Williams should have been heavier on fuel bu Prost won, Schumacher second and Senna ran out of fuel, Prost was always going to pass but he was not desperate to do so.

Absolutely, there were quite a few drives he showed respect to, with Prost their skill went out of the widow and their rivalry was based purely on emotion, they had a blood feud going on, with Mansell that was not the case, Mansell was always respectful towards Senna in interviews and even gave him a lift on his side pod when Senna broke down.
Senna also stated about Mansell that he was the only driver who when behind Senna would appear in both of his mirrors at the same time which effectively meant that Senna was always having to watch out for what Mansell did as his moves were unpredictable and so when Mansell was on Sennas tail Senna always felt under pressure and was always pushed to the absolute limit of his skills to stay ahead, Monaco springs to mind here.
There was also Lauda, Piquet and Rosberg too but I have to admit, I don't really know too much about what he thought about those drivers, as for Schumacher? I don't really think he got long enough with Schumi to form too much of an opinion about him.

One of the problems with current F1 is that cars cannot follow closely for too long. This puts pressure on drivers to make a move right away or the window for overtaking disappears, the brakes and tires get cooked etc. Your can’t be on a guy’s tail lap after lap so you end up having to try the undercut in the pits. It sucks.
