    This video is gold, 99% of the vocal teachers on youtube dont ever talk about on stage performance technique. I'd be interested in hearing more about the vocal pedal board and any techniques you have for keeping your neck/shoulders relaxed when singing and playing guitar live.

    Great advice. I’ve been the asshole guitarist turning up for no reason more times than I would like to admit. Funny seeing things from the vocalist point of view now that I am venturing into that realm myself.

    Love your videos man because almost everything you touch on, be it the mental hurdles or the singing hurdles, they’re things I’ve dealt with myself in a big way. But, I’ve never heard a vocal coach/singer talk about it. It actually helps a lot to know these aren’t unique to me. Appreciate you!

    Bro, mics matter. Mic lives matter. For live situations yes you don’t need to go crazy and basic 58’s usually work for all situations but there can be other brands that work well that has the same specs too.

      I think you just said what I said ha. It doesn’t matter that much. People that don’t do this stuff much tend to thing it’s gonna change everything and uh… no not really. Mic lives matter. Make a t-shirt.

    Now try explaining ANY of this to your band (on the two rehearsals in one one year, right before a gig) without them thinking your just a drama-queen making excuses.🤨

      I don’t remember everything I mentioned in my videos. What now? You had two rehearsals in one year?

    Great to hear someone say it out loud. My band is always getting amped up & too loud which is so hard on my voice. So are you constantly telling them to dial it back? Don't have in ears but will look into it. Do you play an instrument& sing at the same time? I am amazed at singers who can. Wish I could pull that off.

    • @SterlingRJackson
      @SterlingRJackson  11 месяцев назад +2

      Never telling them to dial it back. The point I was making is that you create a situation for yourself that you can replicate where you can hear and perform well. Then if other people can’t hear you or the PA system or the blah blah… it has nothing to do with you. The singer can’t listen and adjust to “the room”. Know what I’m saying? I play many instruments and can sing at the same time but prefer to only sing mostly.

      I just never thought about it like that. I thought it was my responsibility to manage. I am having a little trouble figuring out how to do that without band cooperation.

    About the only live performance i do anymore is occasionally sing karaoke. mainly being a guitarist, singing without my guutar is terrifying. Like u said, im thinking the whole time wtf do i do? stand here? not move? , move like a gawky teenager? its a lot more fun singing in the shower. But i feel like that is not where the real rock experience is.

    • @SterlingRJackson
      @SterlingRJackson  11 месяцев назад

      Takes a lot of just doing it to figure all these things out but, yes, I agree that your shower is definitely lacking in the rock experience ha

      Where’d you get the hat, what’s the brand and how big is your head? The hat kicks ass. I wear a size 8 hat bc my head bone is huge and my brain is small. Good for opening walnuts when you’re at an old person’s house, but not good for pulling off a hat like you are here (btw… who buys walnuts? Anyone under 80?).

    Some great insights here, but more importantly what model of Ultimate Ears are you using?

    • @SterlingRJackson
      @SterlingRJackson  11 месяцев назад +1

      These are the UE 18+ Pro. Do I notice a huge difference between the cheaper ones I had for years and these? Nope haha. But it’s all good. I’m using them constantly.

      @@SterlingRJackson thanks for sharing buddy!
      Ahh I was looking into the same model, but interesting you say you can’t hear a big difference!
      I’m presuming you had the UE 5 Pro before!I was told the wireless unit quality impacts the audio somewhat!🤷‍♂️

    • @SterlingRJackson
      @SterlingRJackson  11 месяцев назад +1

      @@jayswandyeah I think it was a UE 4 actually. It was about 12 years ago or something. I mostly use them for performing so not listening to music much and I haven’t tried them in the studio yet with mixing or anything
