How to Sing with Confidence: Stage Fright Tips

- Learn how to sing with confidence and get over stage fright with these four stage presence tips that you can use whether you're a beginner singer or a seasoned performer who still struggles with anxiety about performing.
Tip #1: Define Your Why
When you define why it's so important for you to sing in front of an audience, your desire will overcome your fear.
Tip #3: Stop putting pressure on yourself to be perfect
If you are worried about messing up, you'll forget to have a good time doing what you love. It's better to make mistakes than it is to hold yourself back.
Tip #3: Don't think of the audience as your enemy
We're all afraid of being criticized, but if you assume the audience is going to judge you, you're only going to make yourself more nervous.
Tip #4: Fake it till you make it
When in doubt, channel the swag from someone you admire and apply it to your next performance. Pretty soon you won't have to fake confidence anymore and you'll be comfortable enough to slay on stage.

Do you ever struggle with stage fright? What helps you get through it?
This video!
I haven’t 😅
Yes
Literally always
Yes always
Self negativity is something that I personally have struggled with. “It’s a singer thing.” Mostly because of the perfectionism, but also because even when intended to be constructive criticism, sometimes it’s to heavy. Like moments when you honestly felt like you did a great job, and then directly after you get off stage someone has something to say. It makes you question yourself on a very deep level and shutdown. To put someone’s opinions so heavy on your soul can 100% crush the childlike spirit that made you want to do it in the first place.
Be kind to yourself. Perfection isn't real. There will always be critics. Sing for YOU. Perform for YOU. It takes a lot more confidence to perform than it does to criticize.
I felt this comment, I am my worse critic a lot of times.
So true. Had a performance today. I completely relate.
When they tell this shout them out telling you're a badass legend! You definitelly DON'T NEED to accept that! ;3
I never really cared what other people think of me. I just do my best and let the chips fall where they may.
I worked a lot before singing on a stage. The nerves were kicking in and were awful, I was trying so hard to control my breath and I was so disappointed in myself because it wasn’t what I wanted. The crowd went wild and I was surprised.
People called my mom and came up to me telling me the song touched their hearts and asking if I was in school for singing.
I’m a worship singer by the way.
Much love and blessings to you and thank you for making this video! ❤️
I am sing in church tomorrow and I am so nervous, this encouraged me
This is awesome!!
You got this!
Much Love 🦁💚💯
1. Why are you singing (performer & singer)
2. Just get start it!
3. The audience are positive thinking to us (performance, entertainment)
4. Get that swag on stage
I had really bad stage fright yesterday, and led me to bombing a performance. No confidence on stage, since it’s been so long to be live. This helped a lot, thank you.
I played a few songs at an open mic last night. The audience was pretty supportive, but I had the hardest time remembering the lyrics. I was playing too fast as well. I walked away just happy I got up there and tried. I'll try again at the next open mic... Thanks for these great tips.
Dis was me lastnight 😂😂😂😂😂 forgetting the lyrics
Here's a tip. Whenever you go to sing a song, make sure you can remember the lyrics IN YOUR SLEEP!! When you go on stage stage jitters effects most people, and the very first thing to go is your MEMORY. So if you totally ingrain the lyrics in your head first, you will be able to concentrate on your performance with full confidence, not until.
I know the feeling I play every day at home, but different ball game out there live,
It happens even to professional singers when they perform live. Allowing yourself to forget the lyrics and wing it might help.
I'm literally in that situation. Everytime i have to sing I'm petrified. I overthink so much . I don't like my voice i fell insecure and shy . I don't even know how to move. And honestly it kills my performance. There's always a voice in my head that tells me you're suck you're not gonna do it. I really want to get confident on stage
Thank you for your video. I have not sung solo since years ago when, while ministering, my voice cracked throughout the entire song. My self-confidence dropped to zero. I'm now trying to return to the stage. Thank you for the encouragements.
The thought of being able to share a piece of who I am with a crowd, and to connect with them on a personal level, is such an overwhelming emotion. If I could live as a touring artist and be met with all the essential items needed to sustain life and $500 a month to do with what I wish, I wouldn’t complain. It’s the connection with the community that I want. 33, living in my car, about to move to Cali again, multiple careers, multiple traumas, music is my only answer.
I have a show tonight and this just confirmed everything that I felt in y heart. Thank you so much God bless you
When I was small and decided I wanted to be a singer, I used to ask my mom how I sounded when I sang, and she just used to tell me that I didn’t sound good. She and I didn’t have a good relationship at the time, so I think she just took the opportunity to crush my confidence. Now it’s carried on into my adulthood and I feel like I’m in a box of fear and anxiety around singing. But I have to find a way to shine, because I have something to share with the world.
That's awful🥺 you should've gotten encouragement. Give that to yourself today❤️
Perhaps get some singing lessons to build your confidence?
“Just a lil bit of art, just a lil bit of creativity “ @11:11 🦋🦋🦋✨✨✨
YES!! Thank you soooo much for the very down-to-earth lesson. I love your energy, sis. This is a hard topic for me but I have my first solo gig coming and I am determined to CRUSH IT!! I thought I needed help vocally, but my coach said I just need some “artist tuning” so she is helping me to fine tune stage presence. People have always overlooked me and made me feel like my voice was horrible. It wasn’t until recently that I noticed people beginning complimenting me, not because I got better, but because the negative folks were the ones talking the loudest. I couldn’t her the compliments before but now, I do. But, I’ve been beat down so bad, by myself, that it’s difficult to get that mindset change. But, I’m going to do! I didn’t intend to write all of this, but… thanks again ☺️
you literally talked about every single fear i have when it comes to performing and addressed how to stop it. Thank you!

Yessss! This was so spot onnn
One of my biggest moments was when I was on the Apollo live at showtime at the Apollo hosted by Steve Harvey. I went on the show and it is a very tough audience very tough. They serve liquor in the isles so by the time you go on people are definitely a little drunk and rowdy. If they don’t like you they do boo you and eventually you get pushed off the stage. Backstage I was confident and giving everybody confidence but when they called my name all of a sudden my mouth dried up like it was a lemon on a desert but I still went out there and did everything I could and I didn’t win but I didn’t get booed either. I was asked back on another show. It was definitely an experience that I look back on and think to myself you can’t get into your own head you got to get out of it. Just put in 100% even if you’re feeling maybe 70% that day go in with the notion of doing your best within the time you have allotted. You’ll come out of it feeling like more accomplished and you’ll beef up for next time.❤❤

I’m going to be doing my first performance at a graduation in about 3 weeks, and I was so scared that I looked up how to ease this awful stage fright I had, I’ve always had stage fright and I decided one evening just to do it, go out with a bang because I’m most likely not gonna have to see these people for a long time after this, so make this experience great type of thing. This helped me so much and I appreciate this so much

I am not a singer, but a speaker (at times). So familiar with these experiences of performance anxiety. Your strategies are most helpful and will be put to good use. You're natural and engaging and am sure you would WOW live audiences. Thanks again!
